Really...? I mean, she is awesome, don't get me wrong, but when did she become the BEST pony? Fluttershy doesn't even WANT attention.
I'm pretty disappointed guys, and so is Twilight Sparkle. I hope you are all happy. The poor girl has been crying her eyes out for a few hours now.
Also Lyra asked me to keep her and bonbon off the list. Apparently they are tired of everyone butting in on their personal lives. In fact, Bonbon broke up with Lyra around the middle of season 1 thanks to you. It's rumored that they still see each other in secret, but they sure as hell don't live together anymore.

Though, I do admit though that I was shocked Fluttershy beat some of the usually more popular ponies on the list like Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash though. Also a little surprised with how low Applejack is on the list too. ( and for the fact that a good chunk of the ponies didn't even get a noticeable bump in their bar. Only 8 out of all of them even moved from the start. ( Main Six, Luna and Derpy )
But I'm happy, my favorite two got 1st and 5th bestest. /high five Fluttershy and Luna

I went for Pinkie Pie in the end, but really it came down to a coin toss between Pinkie and Fluttershy.
Then afterwards I watched some of the Fluttershy episodes, then wanted to change my vote, then watched some pinkie pie episodes which balanced it out again, then watched the entire season again and released I loved all the ponies...
So I left it as Pinkie Pie before I went crazy thinking about it...

The smallest fractions would have a very small impact. Now if we removed the top 8 that would make a little more sense since all of those votes would go into characters who didn't get many votes.

Usually that starts by eliminating the lowest vote getters and working your way down to two contenders, at which point one of them will get 50%+1 or more. ReplyDeleteI still am bothered on the fact that out of the mane six, Fluttershy has yet to show us more depth, (Flutterrage does not really count because after she is out of rage she goes back to being shy again)even Pinkie Pie has more character depth then Fluttershy. Don't get me wrong, I love Fluttershy as much as everypony else but we should at least get an explanation why she is so shy. I hate the "she/he is shy for absolutely no reason or has no explanation to why she/he is" that pops up oftentimes.

That would be far better - we would give good reasons for liking these characters, assuming that we're focusing on the canon side (but that would be very tricky now that people are reading fanfiction).

ReplyDeleteFluttershy is that way because Lauren clearly knew that the trait would resonate with a LOT of people (and by the looks of this poll she was 120% right).
I think that if they delved too much into it, she'd lose a ton of appeal to those that are not shy/antisocial for whatever reason that a cannon explanation would give her.

ReplyDeleteFluttershy being able to stand up for her friends in a time of need despite the fact that she is shy and scared of everything counts as character depth as much as an explanation to why she acts the way she does. Besides, if they gave a reason to why she's so shy, it would probably ruin her character. It would for me anyway.
And Flutterrage does count, because it shows that she's not always shy and has occasions where she snaps. It would make her a dull character if she was always shy, which is why the freakout was very good for her character.

5. She's an Alicorn which is 20% cooler than a unicorn(Magic AND Flying?! c'mon)
My second would have been Twilight, But all ponies are best ponies in my opinion. They're all adorable in their own way and picking one as a favorite is tough.

I think the reason Rarity and Applejack didn't get that many votes is because they haven't really wandered outside their box of personality Like the other ponies have.
ReplyDeleteLike, their really hasn't been an episode for Rarity doing something other than clothes designing, and same goes for Applejack and Apples.
Don't get me wrong, the Diamond Dogs episode was definitely out of the box for Rarity, but it didn't show her badass side as much as it showed her whiny side.
I hope they fix this in Season 2, because I came out of Season 1 not enjoying Applejack as much as I had hoped to. =/
What do you mean Fluttershy doesn't want attention? Judging by how she acted in the finale, she's probably crying about how 83% of monkeys don't love her.
