    Canterlot Castle: $19.99
Mixed news coming from our drawfriend bro Atlur.  Apparently target has these toys siting in the back room, with the release date set at August first.

Everything comes with a specific Canterlot style theme, including the DVD which holds both "Suited for Success" and "Ticketmaster"for $9.99.   Lets...pray this isn't the planned episode releases Hasbro was talking about.  Call me crazy but last I heard 10 bucks was a lot for two episodes in SD!

You can find more images after the break, including the street date and the DVD boxes.  Sadly it's all done with a cell phone camera, so it's difficult to read, but at least it's there!

    1. Only two episodes?

    2. Well I guess If you didn't have any of the toys this could be considered a deal.

      ReplyDelete
    3. errr. Maybe 25$ for 13 episodes a-peice...?

      ReplyDelete
    4. >mfw 10$ for 2 sd episodes

I sure hope they release an uncompressed blu-ray of season1 with bonus features

      ReplyDelete
    5. Awww really, just two episodes? I hope this is just a promo with the toy and they do a box set or something.

      ReplyDelete
    6. We were warned that some of the merch was coming with discs as well as separate disc releases

      ReplyDelete
    7. Wtf is this... I wanted a full blu-ray set with all the episodes. Not this crap

      ReplyDelete
    8. Guess I'm going have to get "My Sister" this too.

      ReplyDelete
    9. @Skylark Torch

25$ for two separate dvd sets are you loco in the cocoa

      ReplyDelete
    10. It's nice to know they have the good sense to package related episodes together.

This is clever marketing, and not intended for us. Little kids will love the packaging, and it's easily cheap enough to be an impulse buy. Plus, parents usually won't care very much that the kid is only getting two episodes.

Clearly this package is not aimed at bronies.

      ReplyDelete
    11. I just hope there still is a Blu-ray disk set in the works with bonus content. I don't see a reason to buy them with no extra content when I have all the episode in iTunes in HD.

      ReplyDelete
    12. Surely, given the cult following the show has, they'll release DVD (probably a 2 DVD boxset due to capacity limitations) and BLU Ray versions with bonus features like 'The making of' and such.

      ReplyDelete
    13. Pretty strange that they're not including Best Night Ever in this.

For the love of god guys, don't buy this just for the DVD. All the episodes are on Youtube for free.

      ReplyDelete
    15. ...Why just two episodes? And for $10? That's a bit...much for just two episodes. I really want a DVD and/or Blu-Ray, but not like this. Pass. I hope they come out with a DVD set with every episode or something like that.

    16. @Anonymous

I agree, that's like releasing two thirds of a movie.

      ReplyDelete
    17. @Anonymous
I can name a couple of reasons why they wouldn't.
      1) The idea is for the episodes to help give the kids some ideas of how to play with the toys, and let them then come up with their own version of the Gala. (I'm not saying that the kids wouldn't be able to do that anyway, but I'd wager that's a big part of Hasbro's reasoning here).
      2) 26 divided by 2 equals 13 different ways they can package stuff like this. 26 by 3 gives you only 9 (with still one 'set' having only two episodes. They'll probably do that for the first two episodes.)

      ReplyDelete
    18. This is not aimed for bronies, it is aimed for children.
They will probably release the Bluray of Season 1 during the Holidays or earlier.

      ReplyDelete
    19. Is that Pinkie Pie with blue hair?

      ReplyDelete
    20. Well the episodes make sense, being the gala related ones and all. Bit strange not to include #26 though.

I'm still hoping for a full blu-ray boxset. It would make sense for a christmas release tbh

    21. Like Puzzle Hooves said, this is more Target exclusive merchandise, not mass-release stuff - we've seen that "Canterlot - only at Target" sticker on some of the other merchandise that's popped up here. They don't invest as much effort into the store exclusive items since it isn't as profitable as mass-market releases.

    24. Yeah, keep dreaming bout those Blue Rays cause thats all they'll ever be. Hasbro can't even be bothered to release their bread and butter boy franchise's on BR no way in hell they'll buck the trend for ponies.

Hm, I agree with my cynical brother here, dont get the toy just for the DVD.

Get it for the toy as well! They're actually quite fun to style and stuff :D

      ReplyDelete
    26. well, looks like a trip to target in august is in order

      ReplyDelete
    27. $9.99 for 2 eps? Srsly?

I'd gladly pay 20€ for a full season + bonus material like I did for other series.

      ReplyDelete
    28. Wait, some people in here actually like these crappy toys? No offense, but those toys suck balls!

Seriously why would you want that? FiM isn't discustingly girly. These abominations however, are. And most importantly: They don't resemble the show, at all.

Sigh, what ever floats your boat, I guess...

      ReplyDelete
    29. Hmm, well at least the toy comes with an episode containing an awesome song.

If The Ticketmaster doesn't convert a household to bronydom, then Suited for Success will!

      ReplyDelete
    30. Honestly if the DVDs never come out, oh well. I've got the entire first season downloaded. I do want to support them and give them the money for the first season, but if they choose not to release it then it's no skin off of my nose, you know?

      ReplyDelete
    31. 2 DVD's for $10 dollars? wut...
They're not even the first two episodes released.

Please... don't tell me this is how they plan to market the tv series... =X

      ReplyDelete
    32. To echo what everyone else said in here for you neighsayers, this particular package is being marketed to the show's originally intended audience. Young girls. This is not created with Bronies in mind. Somehow, I think that something later down the road will be.

*snif* why are you always so mean! I only like things you arent too particularly fond of, it's not like I'm actually causing you any problems!

that said, if I am causing you any problems, im sorry. I dont mean to be a bother.

    35. So many people here cannot into reading comprehension. There is only ONE DVD with just two episodes on it. It does NOT come with the canterlot toy set. The toy set and the DVD are sold separately.

      ReplyDelete
    36. canterlot toy set. y u no come with luna toy?

      ReplyDelete
    37. ...Beg pardon?

Hasbro, we've all expressed a willingness to buy the first season. Please don't do this.

      ReplyDelete
    38. If this is the dvd they were talking about... I'm going to be really pissed

      ReplyDelete
    39. My money. I'm keeping it until I can get all 26 episodes in one shot.

      ReplyDelete
    40. @Pegasi
hard to be picky when it comes to official pony merch

      ReplyDelete
    41. I can identify Twilight in the first picture, but if that other pony with her is suppose to be Celestia, where are her wings?

      ReplyDelete
    42. Hasbro executives: HEY! We've got a BOAT LOAD of suckers lining up to spend their cash on a DVD version of the series. How can we make it so that we squeeze every last penny out of them. I GOT IT! Lets combine as few episodes as possible with our merchandise to weakly justify putting a ridiculous price on them. They will buy it hook line and sinker. MWAHAHAHA!

Bronies: What the hell is this crap? I would gladly buy the actual complete series on DVD, but I'm not spending my hard earned cash on such an obvious marketing scheme.

Hasbro executives: WHAT HAS HAPPENED?! WE NO MAKE MONEYS WITH PONY STUFF! It must be the fault of the series! We need to change it, make it hip and edgy. The characters need to pop. We need to change it up, since our products are not selling, and that only means one thing: the series isn't good enough. Time to go back to the drawing board and improve it OUR WAY.

      ReplyDelete
    43. Gah, just got back from Target hoping to get the news to you first, guess being 4 hours behind doesn't help >.>

Anyway, more info for you, we also received all the other Canterlot items set for Target (Including Luna and Celestria set >.<), and its not early august. My boss told me we are putting all the toys we got (and we got alot of toys in today) are being set up between this week and July 31st, so you might want to start checking target next week :D

      ReplyDelete
    44. Now about those vectors...

      ReplyDelete
    45. Hmm, that is kinda disheartening. Only 2 episodes for $10. But like someone above said, hopefully this one is more a promo item to go along with the Canterlot sets, than the actual DVD/Blu-ray releases. Only two episodes does seem odd, so it's viable. Though I wouldn't be surprised if this, and perhaps a bunch more 2 or 3 episode DVD's like it, are them. It'd be a way for them to potentially make more money. But it could obviously backfire too since most Bronies wouldn't be keen on it. But we can try and stay optimistic.

      ReplyDelete
    46. @Anthony

I have a sinking feeling that it says Starlight Twinkle.

      ReplyDelete
    47. There should be a set eventually. They'll probably release a few of these separate DVDs and then come out with one set after Season 2 is over.

      Give it time.

      ReplyDelete
    48. $10 for a playset is perfectly acceptable, and it comes with a DVD. 2 episodes and a playset is a great deal, coming from someone that buys kids toys all the time. $10 for just the 2 episodes and no toys would be crap.

      ReplyDelete
    49. I gotta add that they're re-using items from from the tiny Ponyville sets. My kid already has the tea cart and mirror, just in different colours.

      ReplyDelete
    50. Eh, so much comments about buying DVDs, and when they finally come out, so much whining about not wanting them other than for 0.01$ apiece, because you have full collection pirated. "Fans" indeed :/

      ReplyDelete
    51. @Anonymous

Well, if you can get the episodes on itunes in high def, for less, it ends up not being a great deal.

      ReplyDelete
    52. I seem to be misunderstanding something. To my understanding, the castle is $20 and the DVD is separate for $10. Correct me if I'm wrong.

      ReplyDelete
    53. Yeah, if ITunes is cheaper than the DVD. I'll go with ITunes. Espicially if there isn't any behind the scene stuff on the DVD.

Hopefully this isn't the planned DVD. The ITunes version is vastly superior to this.

      ReplyDelete
    54. in my country this would be 100 bucks and the dvd would probably be 35 :/

      ReplyDelete
    55. Two episodes for ten dollars... that's a bit much, don't you think Hasbro? They should've packaged the DVD with the toy set for $20 and had a fun little package for the kiddies.

Mostly, though, they should hurry up and give the bronies some merch that's actually worth it. :K Please to be hurrying up, Hasbro!

      ReplyDelete
    56. Not that uncommon. Where I work I get to see a lot of retail back rooms. I once spotted a pile of Wii's in a Target store a few weeks before they were officially 'for sale'.

At WalMart I've seen some of the larger MLP toys started coming with one of those tiny 3" DVDs containing one episode.

As far as 'Toys for the Bronies' I'm guessing if they make things like that at all they'll be similar to the way they market special edition Barbie dolls "for the adult collector" -- like those Barbies in Star Trek uniforms.

      ReplyDelete
    57. @Saurian

...wait, an actual Luna set? :O

      ReplyDelete
    58. People, please do not be disheartened by the 2 episodes on 1 DVD thing. A LOT of children's shows release just a few episodes per DVD then later on release the complete seasons. It is not that uncommon.

      ReplyDelete
    59. who is the pony in the castle with twilight?

      ReplyDelete
    60. I think I'm about to use water gun.

      ReplyDelete
    61. @Killsteal_Wolf

Are you kidding me? Crappy colors, cut picture, missing scenes and shitty DRM you can only watch on one Mac better than actual DVD?

...this is above Rarity-level whining, IMHO :/

      ReplyDelete
    62. That is indubitably sis in the castle tower, with Twilight, alone. I heard that's their most favorite place in the castle.
She has her crown and multi-colored mane.
Also, it does say 'Twilight Sparkle'. Can't fully tell what it says above sis, though. It looks like 'Princess Celestia'.

      ReplyDelete
    63. @Galaxy Swift
Yes, a while back there were 2 different official Canterlot sets with Luna and Celestia on, I believe Japanese Ebay.

      ReplyDelete
    64. @Anonymous

Eh, I don't know if you and I use the same iTunes, because that is definitely not how it works.

      ReplyDelete
    65. @C.Olimar788
I agree. This DVD would make a really nice extra for the toy set, but it's not an item that's to be sold separately.

      ReplyDelete
    66. 2 episodes is a start, a crappy start, but a start :P

      ReplyDelete
    67. I'm wondering if this is just like what (large retail chain I worked for) did: Let's say there's a bonus disc that's supposed to be given away free with the purchase of a particular item. To prevent people from buying just the bonus disc, it was priced in our system at $100 (a bit extreme, I admit). There's nothing to prevent you from getting that disc, but most people wouldn't do that.

I think it may be a similar deal here: buy the toy set, get a free DVD. Since the DVDs may end up in random places in the store (or the DVD shelf), they're priced at the somewhat-high-but-not-insane point of $10 (also so that if someone wants to buy just the disc, they can do so. If that happens, the store is pretty much earning a profit on that full $10)

      ReplyDelete
    68. TWO WHOLE EPISODES HOLY SHIT

      ReplyDelete
    69. $10 for 2 episodes is crap

      ReplyDelete
    70. @Nissatron

The pony with Twilight is some new pony called 'Starbeam Twinkle'. New character in Season 2? Maybe -- or just one of Hasbro's OC ponies.

There are also supposed to be a couple other Target Exclusive sets featuring Celestia and Luna.

      ReplyDelete
    71. @PRODVDi

yeah but she has no wings

    72. No one has yet pointed out the biggest error in those pictures: "DOLLS"

      Those are fantasy action figures.

      NOT dolls.

      Action figures.

    73. $2 FOR 10 EPISODES!!!!!!!!.... . . . . . . .
      wait, what, wrong?

      ReplyDelete
    74. They've had that Canterlot set on MyLittlePonyNews.com since June 1st, I believe. Though, that site is for toy collectors, and not bronies...

In any case, the pink unicorn next to Twilight Sparkle is named Starbeam Twinkle.

Missed opportunity, Hasbro. Are you planning TBNE for another release?

    79. August still can't come soon enough. Oddly-made as they are, I'd still like to snag a Luna/Celestia set to round out my cast... and then put them all in little vests and have them reenact scenes from Les Miserables.

      ReplyDelete
    80. Ahem, may I remind every brony that Hasbro will comply to a full season DVD set if the two-episode per discs actually sell?

This isn't Hasbro being an a-hole, this is business! Don't let this show have the same fate as the rest of season 2 of Gargoyles. Want to know what happened? Because fans thought refusing to buy Season 2 Part One would be a good idea just to see if Disney would comply to release the rest.

And boy was every fan screwed. The DVD sales weren't high, it remains unreleased all because the fans actually played stupid.

To all bronies, buy the discs to get your wish.

      ReplyDelete
    81. Bronies, need I remind you that you are not the target audience? You are just an added bonus. Young girls are who this series is targeted towards, thus you will see that reflected in the merchandise.

And Movie-Brat has the perfectly right idea for the whole DVD issue. I'll buy it because I like to put my money where it matters.
