That is of course if the Tardis chameleon circuits don’t overload...
That's just a guess though.

My guess: Twilight gets mail about the upcoming engagement of her brother Shining Armor, and for some reason they're not speaking to each other anymore. When Twilight realizes the engagement was to Princess Cadence, she assumes the worst (use of potion, since she can't imagine her brother to be charming), but then it's too late to prevent anything. Cue Twilight breaking into the forbidden section of the Star Swirl wing to get a time travel spell, while the regular guards try to stop her. She makes it into the past, only to be unable to deliver the warning... and her past self wonders what was going on, comes across a mail from her brother and dismisses it as unimportant right now...
Just 7 hours left I can sleep or hang out at the haxmega stream since it's playing some random vids....who needs sleep anyways

How time travel can go horribly wrong.
If you travel through time you'd have to account for placement of objects in the universe. Like say the planets movement, going back a minute in time would leave you possibly out in the middle of space or in the planet itself. (Unless you can account for gravitational time space placement)
Time Travel should only be possible because it was supposed to happen in the first place. Paradoxes are only possible if time makes it so, such as killing yourself in the past. Thus making Alternate Universes an existing part of reality as we know it. As such paradoxes never happens, only branching timelines where the paradoxes seem to exist.
Trying to fix time is impossible as to go back in time is to autimatically change everything even if you don't do anything to alter the future of anyone you know or possibly don't know. You Existed therefore you do.
Time is not immutable, it's always changing itself to make it seem that its that way just to annoy intelligent people. Said people come up with the theory that time is in fact immutable because time travel loves to screw them over with their inability to do anything to the past despite altering it an infinite number of times. It's not a straight line and is in fact a bending river that circles in upon itself.
Infinite plus infinite will cause time travel. Thus the reason why a delorean needs to go eighty eight miles and hour.
If the universe ends it will invetibly begin like ourborous chewing on it's own tail.
Everything repeats itself and I've already written this message a thousand time in a exact repeat of our history. Our history however does not always repeat exactly and is subject to change the next time our universe collapses in on itself and then explodes again.
Sky Net will never succeed at killing John Connor because without him Sky Net wouldn't exist to kill him in the first place. Jogn Connor was originally the son of some bum, an Alternate Universe was made so it was Kyle Reese who was his father. The reason Judgement Day is inevitable, is because the very idea exists at all times to make a killer army of robots and a Artificial Intelligence that will nuke us to kingdom come.
The Matrix has calculated the fact that it has repeated itself mutliple times and thus can almost predict when 'The One' will rise to make it stop using humans as live batteries despite putting them in a world of pure blinding happiness. In hindsight it's better that you don't wake up to the apocalyptic world by take the the pills.
Anything ever thought up, even if it was thought up in the form of a dyslexic mind, will inevitably come into existence. Only it won't happen to you in the current universe as we know it.
The world does in fact end with you, but everyone elses worlds continue and may carry memories of your world existing.
If you don't want to go insane, never mess with time travel... EVER. Twelve Monkeys prove that time travel can lead to horrible revelations, such as watching yourself die as a kid. That movie was a sad joke on how one can not see the true problem untill it's too late to stop it. Also multiple alternate universe combine together by coincidence in that movie.
Time capsules are not nearly as fun an idea as trying to write a message to yourself that will survive the universe collapsing to eventually rebuild itself. If you exist in this universe and find said message to yourself from some time in the past, you are pretty damn lucky.
Mass Effect 3 proves that without a doubt that our universe could have goen through several full destruction scenario's. Apparently no matter what happens, humans will continue to be a part of most grand designs. Just as long as our precursors were humanoid and have somehow managed to give of devices to recreate the ability to genetically alter a human into a pony for and profit, bonus points if all kinds of ponies naturally exist and free love is possible between any naturally existing being.
War never changes, of that much time can be assured. The only thing's that can matter when it comes to possibility is hoof grenades and Applejacks back left Ponyshoe that was worn by Mcgillacutty.
We are just reliving the episode we may or may not have seen in a past life that history has made us live through once before. Derpy is proven to be eternal, thus the invention of muffins will never die.
I will be back with my probabilties for this episode later. Although I might have said to much as time travel may be involved in half of my vague or otherwise powerfully accurate predictions.

It was influenced by Terminator, but there were a few key differences.
*WARNING SPOILERS*
Mainly, the time travel was apparently not one way. When the Terminator came back to the past, it had no way to return to the future. Future Twilight returns to the future after only about one minute in the past.
Also, one of the main details about Terminator time travel is that clothes do not travel through time with the time traveler. Anyone who traveled through time in any Terminator production always reached their destination naked. Here, Future Twilight is wearing an eyepatch, headband, and sneaking suit. This is odd because ponies rarely wear clothes to begin with, but I can see how the specific clothes were used in this case to illustrate the repercussions of a seemingly cataclysmic war on par with that of the Terminator franchise.
The way Future Twilight appeared in a flash of light was definitely inspired by the Terminator though.
I'm nitpicking of course. Those are just my views on the matter.

I still think (post seeing the clip) that Twilight's message to herself isn't about something trivial, but it's nothing cataclysmic to Equestria. She needs to have a reason to want to time travel to begin with. My guess is that she forgets to do something important to either her or her friends, tries to correct it with time travel, and then still forgets to do it because she's worried about some great cataclysm instead.

The flashbang television remote thing happened six months ago and I do have more then one television remote mind you.
The taser thing eventually worked, but it wasn't exactly up to the level of a real taser. I do have notes on how to recreate a flashbang remote, as it was a worthy accidental success on my part. (Weaponizing everyday objects is a fun hobby)
At least I'm not anything like those youtube guys stuffing things you shouldn't put into a microwave.(They melted a My Little Pony Toy, it was kind of fascinating really.)

1. Twilight is so scared of causing the future disaster that she's afraid to do anything at all. This inaction leads to the disaster.
2. After the disaster, this time's Twilight decides not to travel to the past to warn herself of impending doom, for whatever reason. The universe resets itself to correct for this time paradox at the end of the episode.
3. Both happen, as they're not mutually exclusive.
