Season Two Episode 4: Luna Eclipsed

Synopsis: It's Nightmare Night and the macabre celebrations are in full swing when Luna herself shows up in Ponyville, determined to change her frightening public image.
So our first encounter with Luna is a Halloween episode!

I think remaking that movie into a 2-3 Parter using G4 characters would be neat for qhenever they get around to it.

ReplyDeleteBut in all seriousness, or however much is applicable when talking about ponies, I cannot wait for this episode. It will be amazing.
I just have to say, I really cannot stand all of the buzzkills saying there is an impending sh*tstorm about her personality. And quite frankly, there are a lot of people with this sort of stance. It's nonsense.
For one thing, you all did the exact same thing when Discord was first announced, along with the plot of the pilot. These people immediately said, "Oh, this is just going to be a rehash of the season 1 pilot plot. Expect sh*tstorm." Then, as soon as we found out he was being voiced by John de Lancie, and saw 3 seconds of footage, they suddenly flipflopped and screamed "OMG Q, THIS IS GONNA BE SO AWESOME!"
Another thing, this team knows what they are doing. They will not make her a bad character, and people will end up taking her or leaving her just like all the other characters. Personally, Luna is my favorite, and I don't expect that to change anytime soon. She is my wallpaper, she is my Google Earth Icon, she's the only Desktop Pony I keep around, she has an entire album of Luna-centric music on my Ipod. My point is, people will see her after this episode as another character, and people will either love her, hate her, or just notice her existence.
So, no, there will be no sh*tstorm, I can tell that much. This fandom (for the most part) is too mature to rage just because she doesn't have an abacus in her first episode (still hoping for it, though XD). Everything will turn out awesome, just like it has been, and if not, it will still be ok.
\tl;dr Luna will be awesome, team knows what they are doing, put up your umbrellas and enjoy the sunlight due to cancellation of seemingly impending sh*tstorm.

I don't actually expect that much drama asdes from a few crazies.
From the sounds of it, it sounds like the majority of the fanon was onto something with the whole "Public weary of Luna so Luna is desperate to prove herself" thing. That could probably be worded better, but you get the idea.

But then I reassure myself that the writers will not recycle a story less than a season old.
Either this is going to be a revolutionary episode for many, or it is going to be one of the biggest trollings in ponydom. Pray, I do hope it isn't the latter.

ReplyDeleteMy guess is that they will use the episode to teach kids the real world lesson of not being afraid of the dark/night while trowing in a moral of "everypony makes mistakes but theree is always forgiveness" for the friendship report.
ReplyDeleteMy big hope is that since this episode is being aired so early in the season this means that this wont be Luna's only appearance and that she will show up more afterwords during the rest of the season like Celestia did.
Also remember when the Internet exploded when Derpy showed up with derp eyes again in episode ? Ya, that's going to look like a firecracker compared to the what will happen when Luna makes her re-appearance in that episode.
I can't wait to see what crazy costumes they have the ponies wear.

ReplyDeleteOn the subject of the air date - I agree that it would make more sense to air this on the 29th, but keep in mind that the HUB may be planning on supplanting normal programing on Halloween weekend proper for a special holiday specific lineup (Halloween specials etc.) It wouldn't be the first time a channel has done that either. (and yes i know others have brought this point up but I think it bears repeating every now and then to help keep people on track)

ReplyDeleteHmm, I doubt it will be a Halloween episode, per se, although there are undoubtedly parallels. It violates Lauren Faust's contention that the ponies live "in a separate world", i.e. not Earth.
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing that "Nightmare Night" will be set up as a commemoration of the night Nightmare Moon returned to Equestria (in Ponyville, see S01 E01), with scary being the theme.
Agreed that Christmas in Equestria won't happen - maybe a "Winter Solstice" celebration, again with similar themes (tree decorating, gift exchange, etc.)
The holiday calendar in Equestria is probably more like the Matsuri calendar in Japan, tied to seasonal events rather than to historical or religious observances.
The new iPhone app has an interesting line, with the Grand Galloping Gala being tied to the founding of Equestria, though the canonicity is questionable, since the original seat of government was not Canterlot, but the castle in what is now the Everfree Forest.
TL;DR: Long, geeky rant about holidays in Equestria. Sorry, I had to get it out of my system somehow.

Also, we don't really know much about Luna's personality, so all the fanfics are just guesses. So, I ageee, it might make us upset a bit (for those who read a lot of Luna fics or just imagine her a certain way). I'm excited, personally. I hope it's true. :)
