We haven't done a good old merch post in a while, and Kayou cards are all the rage right now so let's dive in on some!
These new theme decks have dropped as part of the English release of their official My Little Pony CCG. We've run a few posts on that over the past few weeks over at the Kayou tag. So far, at least on online retail places, they seem to be selling very well. Hopefully everyone is having fun playing it!
Below, I'll go over what all is included, plus some opinions on the cards in general. Go get it.
First off a look at the boxes! One thing to note is, the lids are glued on rather than taped. Get something sharp to sever the glue if you want to preserve the box. I just used a box cutter personally. The boxes themselves are paper so they are pretty fragile. They do still look really good though with that character art.

Inside you will find 3 booster packs and the deck itself, with the primary signature character card on the front.
If you missed my previous deep dive into Kayou cards, I have to say the quality on them is absolutely nuts. They are thick, glossy, and probably some of the best collectible cards I've seen. And not just the premiere cards. Even the commons have that same high quality finish and feel. The textures and foil is top-notch. Think modern Pokemon promo tier.
You also get a big pamphlet showing off how the actual card game works, that doubles as a play mat on the other side. I still haven't had a chance to play it yet since I'm buried in a mountain of nonpony stuff right now, but you can see the rules in the image above if you are curious about what all the numbers and symbols mean.
And here is what Fluttershy comes with overall. You have scenes from the show, some upgraded show style + shaded images of Fluttershy, as well as the land cards in a sketchy style.
Here's a look at the Applejack set. Big Mac and Apple Bloom seem to be supporting cards for her, and she gets some really nice variants with a cool pastel art style. Each deck is 70 cards.
Now for the booster packs! Each one includes 5 cards, including one foil in the ER/RR/CR/GR/SR tiers. I do have to admit it's kinda wild how many categories they have for their foils, but I haven't collected cards in forever so I might be out of the loop. I guess this is a huge deal in China from what I've read on the topic. Back in my day we had promos, rares, commons, and uncommons and that was about it!
The first pack had some Dashie as my foil card in that cute pastel art style I mentioned above. This is the Silver Rare for those wondering.
The second pull was... another Dashie! The Gold Rare version. The foil on that one is WILD looking. Honestly they really knocked it out of the park quality-wise.
My 3rd pack was... another Silver Dashie! That's card games I guess. Good for trading at least.
Next up a silver rare Rarity.
And because I have the worst luck ever with card opening, I got another silver Rarity!
Luckily pack #6 delivered with this top tier Gold Rare Pinkie Pie.
These two really are amazing cards. If I had the budget for it I'd fall hard for collecting these. I kinda envy all the Chinese collectors scooping these up. I always say if there's ever an apocalypse that wipes out humanity and I'm stuck with a big empty planet to raid, I'm going to go hard on card collecting. Survival first of course, but during the down time? I'm finishing all the card sets! Pokemon, MTG, and now Pony! Something about them has always appealed to me, but my bank account keeps me from doing it. Here's hoping for zombies in 2027~ I guess I'd need to find a way over to China though unless they really flood the USA with all those Chinese Sets.
Maybe I'll trade these if I ever hit a convention again.
All in all, if you like collecting cards or want to get into a new CCG, these definitely won't disappoint you. I really can't stress enough how high quality they are. Kayou went all out to make these as premium as possible, and it shows. Here's hoping future pony cons here are flooded with them!
