• Soarin/Spitfire the Only Officially Named Wonderbolts

Sibsy (An animator working on FiM) recently responded to a question about the Wonderbolts for someone on her DA page.  Apparently Soarin and Spitfire are the only ones with actual names.

I think a few of them have fanon names, but tbh they are all pretty similiar looking! The mane two are the only ones that really differentiate themselves.

you just have to watch grand galloping gala to know this....

    2. The Wonderbolts, BACKGROUND CHARACTERS?!

Well I guess this is pretty much proof that we aren't going to have a Wonderbolts-centric episode in FiM2.

    3. Anyways, that sucks that they don't have actual names. Oh, well! Maybe later.

    4. this pretty much confirms they're won't be a Wonderbolt centered episode in season 2, otherwise they would all have to have names

    5. Besides Spitfire and Soarin... this probably means the wonderbolts won't really make much of a return outside of being in performances though...

Hopefully at least Spitfire and Soarin will make more appearences in 2 ( hope... hopefully a casual one where they ditch the outfits )

    6. They're not quite all the same. One look at all six in Sonic Rainboom and you can tell their differences in mane and tail colours.

Or is it because like most teams, you're not supposed to know too much about the individuals and instead keep them as an entity?

If that's the case, Rainbow's really got to shelve the ego and be a team player if she ever expects to be a Bolt.

    7. There's 13 of them on screen at once during the Gala episode, and as far as I recall that's without them being duplicates of eachother. It'd imply that they're a relatively large group, at least.

    8. Fanon names have better imagination :P

    9. Other than the half-joking/half-serious idea that the yellow maned one was Surprise, I didn't even know they had Fanon names.

    10. I am a little concerned. It looks like the groups stick to sets of 3 or 6 for events... This means the one that's scene with Soarin and Spitfire ( the third ) won't even be named at least?

    11. So we can keep calling the old gray haired one "Doc" right?

I think its jumping the gun to say we won't get a Wonderbolts episode. Either way I want to see more Spitfire.

    12. I'm not surprised. They have said before that they don't name the background ponies, Probably because they will end up copying and pasting them all over the place. I think the only background pony who has a official name is Vinyl Scratch.

Vinyl Scratch is still just a fan name. DJ P0N-3 might be considered more official, though it has yet to be used in the show itself. Anyway, you can find all the officially named ponies listed in bold on this page.

    14. Thier names might be "Blaze", "Blizza", "Zipper", "Ray"

A bit of research on that wiki has led me to this http://www.equestriadaily.com/2011/02/poll-results-what-is-pony-djs-name.html

      I guess I was wrong.

    16. @Nightbreak This is why I'd love to see Dash actually get into the Wonderbolts and have to spend an episode learning to be part of a team instead of showing off.

    17. Derpy Hooves is a background character and she has a name. So does DJ PON-3 now.

I guess if we keep up with our peer pressure we will see Lyra, Bonbon, Octavia and Berry Punch showing up with those names too.

    18. No one really suspected anyone but young girls and their parents to be watching the show for the most part. So they didn't really put forth the extra time and effort to get names for every background character made and sorted out. Didn't think anyone would really care or notice to such an extent. :P Of course, the fans have certainly come through on that aspect.

    19. One of the reasons for not spelling out specific details about what's seen in the show unless the script demands it is to prevent straight-jacketing the creative process. Besides, the Bronies so far have been really good at being thoughtful and creative and extrapolating from what little has been suggested from on-screen content so far.

    20. I thought the mare that went to save rarity with spitfire and soarin was named misty. I guess it was just fanon. Huh, I usually ignore most everything that isn't canon, but that one made enough sense that I thought it was canon. P.S. To those talking about "putting pressure" on the creators for background characters and stuff, knock it off. They're the ones running the show; they'll do what they want. In fact, I'll be disappointed if they start seriously caving to the bronies.

    21. Well, they are the only ones with any characterization.

    22. So i guess we will never know the name of the white haired one :/

    23. I don't really care much for the other Wonderbolts, as long as Spitfire gets more screen time. <3

    24. The white-coated mare with the yellow mane and tail resembles the older gen pony Surprise, who Pinkie Pie is based on.

    25. I'm fine with them not naming most of the background ponies. I just wish they had a larger pool of cutie marks to draw from. I mean, they seem to be blocked into different pools based on the pony's status, as is especially apparent by the use of the scroll for the aristocratic ponies.

:3 the "Suprise" colored one is Zero.

    27. Not to be a complete geek, but this is demonstrably wrong. We DO know the name and appearance of another Wonderbolt: Fleetfoot, the blue pegasus with a white mane and tail who won the Wonderbolts Derby in Sweet and Elite. Take a look at around the 6:45 mark and see.
