ReplyDeleteI had the unfortunate experience of watching the full one already this morning. I seem to remember them dancing like that before they entered the Cupcakes scene and she still had no wings.
Of course, I could be wrong, but I'm sure as a packet of sureseeds not going to rewatch it to find out.
The original really succeeds in confusing the watchers with all the mood shifts, gotta give it that! Morbidity and hilariousness makes for a great combo!

But the original animation this one here is taken from? Well even the Dash lover in me couldn't stop laughing at the cartoony, morbidly dark comedy.

This clean, 30 second version I think is merely meant to be cute.
Rainbow Dash's Wings are in the bowl, she detached them during the more intense dance sequence.

ReplyDeleteI totally dig fiction with strong psychological themes. And I have a very strong constitution for the macabre and morbid. But I didn't have to read Cupcakes to know it's just about the gore and making Dash pathetic and helpless.
I thought Rocket to Insanity had much more psychological depth, while also being dark, yet incredibly tragic as well.
as one of the few grimdark bronies i prefer the original . . . and i prefer the fic it was based on more then that. ^ ^ i like what i like and you aint gonna stop me. lol

The original series was pretty subversive. But I've met so many people who thought the Adult season was part of the original show. The Adult season makes the original Nickelodeon series look like it belonged on Nick.Jr

Not the fact grimdark exists. As mature themes have their place and can be interesting and provide a whole level of depth for fans to explore.
But the idea that our mature and suggestive content may spill over and expose otherwise innocent kids to it. That really sucks to me, and is the only real complaint one can lodge against bronies.
On the other hoof, parents need to monitor their kids internet use - AT ALL TIMES. No exceptions.

ReplyDeleteOk--The reason Dash doesn't have wings in the second half of the clip is because pinkie sawed off her wings. If you see the entire thing, the third time they dance, Rainbow has a carved-out stomach-It looks considerable thinner and when she stands up, it appears its been sewn together
