• Comic: The Mane Attraction

It seems like Carrot Top always gets the long, multi-part comics.  This is a full 16 pager, and actually comes with a synopsis.  Find everything below:
Carrot Top lets her hair grow out a bit, and styles it accordingly. No big deal usually, right? Unless somehow, the result makes any pony who gazes at it, become relentlessly enamored with it and the pony it's attached to! Carrot now must find a way to shave her locks before she's smothered to death with affection from every pony in Ponyville!

    2. Long comic... and well worth the full read. Hope someone colors it at some point; it's worth the extra work.

    4. I was most okay with this. Very good. Just enough shipping to make it fun and cute but not over the top.

    8. This wonderful comic, that choose your own adventure story, 'Beyond Her Garden'...

For being such a minor character, Carrot Top sure does get a ton of excellent fan pieces done about her. And that's what makes this fandom such an awesome thing to be a part of.

    9. lol, that was good.
I felt like I was reading an episode storyboard... even though I know the FIM team would never produce anything quite like this in terms of subject matter.

    10. Inafter "I really like her mane". lol Dat obvious pun.

Yay, another large muiltipart comic. This was a really good read. Poor Twilight got pwned by Carrot. lol The ending is so sweet though, awwww. Warms my heart. <3

    12. "any pony who gazes at it, become relentlessly enamored with it and the pony it's attached to!"

How is this different from the way she is on the show?

...I already really love Carrot Top :)

    13. Hey, my mane and tail are even longer than hers! How come the mares all over me?

Is it the insanity? It's *always* the insanity...

(Seriously though, that was just insane.)

    14. Carrot Top is the best pony! After Ditzy, of course, but a close second!

    15. Fun and wonderfully funny! I wouldn't mind seeing more of the background ponies in long comics.

    16. Carrot Top is really cute here. Lovely story, it felt like an episode in comic form.

    17. Cute comic, well worth reading, but what does the author mean by 'butterscotch'?

      ReplyDelete
    18. @jodyjm13: referencing the fics, especially the clopfics, written by Butterscotch Sundae of deviantArt fame.

    19. I've never laughed so much at a pony comic before.

This also answers the debate: who to ship Carrot Top with? Ship her with ALL the ponies!

    20. This was pretty good. All my stars!

    21. This ... I hate to say it, but this disturbed me. I felt like it took the level of "we all love her because of her hair!" to a really disturbing, rape-y kind of place.

People chasing her because of love for her hair? Funny, cute even. It was hilarious when they did it in Lesson Zero, with Smartypants! The difference here is that instead of having cartoony hearts in their eyes, everyone blushes, and it just continues down the road to rape-town from there. Reading a book about how her long hair is a 'sex symbol'? People diving face-first into it against her will? Her face flushing and even fucking crying when people unwillingly touch her, even when she asks them to stop? This is rape allegory, clear and simple.

Especially horrendous is how it ends - "It's okay guys, I totally forgive you, it was my fault that it happened at all." Ahh, just what I love to hear - the cherry on top of the shit sundae. Don't worry, it's your own fault if you get raped, you just didn't try hard enough not to get raped!

Very disappointed. I hope people were able to enjoy it ... I just wasn't. It was too disturbing. I hope no rape victims read this and get triggered - there should be some kind of warning.

    22. Some people's creativity astounds me! This is SO good!

    23. @Jimbo, you're not the only one who noticed that. Seemed cute and light-hearted enough at first but when she was crying because other ponies kept touching her, yeah. Disturbing. :/

    24. @Starfire

Want to say, since that comment was made, I have talked with Jimbo on Deviantart. I apologize heavily if this comic has indeed, disturbed any readers at all. That was never the intention, I swear.

Jimbo makes a valid argument. I completely did not see it myself until I read her comment, and then went over the comic again. I have since then placed a warning on the first page about the non-consensual scenes in the comic. Again, if anyone has been disturbed or upset by the comic at all, I'm really sorry. It's a bad feeling to know you've unintentionally dredged up painful memories for other people.

    26. @Conner Cogwork

I just wanted to pop in and say - Conner Cogwork replied to my comment on DA, and was really cool about it. I think this was just an honest mistake, it was never intended to be upsetting to anyone. I know intent isn't "magical" and all that, but he's been really cool with putting on a warning, and was just really gracious all around, so I wanted to say - thanks for that, Conner. I really appreciate it. It takes a really mature person to look at a "rageragerage" comment and come up with something kind and gracious to reply with. :)

Readers should be warned, if they're particularly sensitive to this kind of thing, but I don't think it was purposeful at all, or the main 'purpose' of the comic. (I know we've had comics published here before where it turned out it was a comic about someone's fetish, but that is definitely not the case here.)

So - yeah, do please read it, it's very cute, there are just a couple of scenes that might be 'chancy' or taken a bit too far. The majority of it is perfectly fine, and if you're not aware of it, you probably won't notice anything out of place at all.

    27. @Jimbo & Conner Cogwork;

Rapevictim myself, but I didn't really feel hurt by this comic. I enjoyed it really, found it hilarious and good face expressions, and yes, a little bit rape-ish.

But that's alright. Totally ban anything about rape will never solve the issues, and it can actually be used for comedy. It's all about how it's handled. (How characters react for example)

Only issue I had was that Carrot Top blames herself for the situation, instead of just saying "I know you didn't do it on purpose, you got hypnotised by magic", she says it's her fault for letting her hair get that long.

      1) She didn't know her hair would have that effect.
      2) We constantly blame rapevictims for rapes already, we would never say that a murdervictim had it coming because s/he was walking on a dark street for real.

The flowertrio already felt bad, CT could have just forgiven them. It would only have been a change in the last lines of page 16.

It's not too late. I can go ahead and make that change, if you think it needs it that much. Like I said, sometimes I just don't catch these things.
