Usually we just move on to the next non-story post, which in this case would be this game demo thingy.

    3. Another quick history lesson of this group:

Getting the "premier comment" is what destroyed BROHOOF and forced SALT to form in its place. Jelfes was the first one to realize what it had turned into, and dublio was the only one who had never once even tried to do it.

I'll admit, it's a bit different with IntenseDebate, but it is still quite the same. I used to rule the comments, but got flamed from both sides. For some reason, I read that sentence like Viva La Vida (i just watched CaptainSparklez Minecraft parody of it). Okay, back on topic- I an very curious as to what Jelfes would say about MyBoyJ and his "Ancient Chinese Secret".

B.R.O.H.O.O.F. was an acronim just like SALT. Brohoof was actually formed with the express purpose of stopping firsters. In fact, the acronim itself (now long forgotten) stood for exactly that- preventing firsters.

Tread carefully. 'Tis a dangerous game you play.

    6. Sorry to jump ship for a moment, but if any of you haven't seen the Avengers yet, you need to fix that. Seriously, that movie was like a concentrated dose of heck yeah!

      ReplyDelete
    7. @Bombedrumbum

I seem to get flamed only when someone beats me to it and mocks me at the same time *cough Schmaltzy cough* otherwise, it seems to be okay.

It's not all I do in the comments, either. I post links when people ask for them and I try to help out wherever I can. I think that's why I'm not flamed very much.

There seems to be a handful of us who do it regularly. Starfall, Sir Le Flour, Wolveon, Sweetiebot occasionally.

    8. @Millennial Dan

My sister just got back and said the same thing.

I don't remember the last time I went to the movies. I know that I tried to see the last Pirates of the Caribbean movie, but the only theater where it was playing (this was weeks after it came out) was having some kind of problem so they weren't showing it anymore.

I just looked it up, and that movie came out almost a year ago. I haven't been to the movies in over a year.

I guess I'll check out The Avengers when it's on TV.

    12. I read a news article about how Avengers just completely blew away the box office with sales.

I think that the last time I went to the movies was also with the last Pirates of the Carribean movie as well. Weird. The movie and the fact that it was my last time as well.

I mean, seriously? Half the time, you don't get what's going on or what they're talking about in the Pirates of the Carribean movies, and this fourth one was a prime example of that. Also, sure enough, there was a small cutscene after the credits. My respone to it- SERIOUSLY?!?!

Also, I just saw Iron Man for the first time. It was on tv, so I thought why not and watched it. I remembered how there's often cutscenes after credits, and sure enough, there was one. It was talking about Avengers. It was made in 2008. O.o

      Is cutscene the correct term?

      ReplyDelete
    13. @Bombedrumbum

They've been foreshadowing the avengers movie since 2004 I think, the Hulk had a scene, Iron Man... All of the characters that had their own movie had a scene...

      ReplyDelete
    14. @myboyj
ah, from now on ill link desktop versions

      ReplyDelete
    15. @Bombedrumbum

I know what cutscene refers to in video games, but not really in movies.

Also, you finally saw Iron Man? I loved that movie too, very entertaining!

As for POTC, my opinion is that they would have done well to strike the entire cannibal island arc from the second movie. If they has used that wasted time to build up the actual story they were trying to tell, maybe the whole thing wouldn't have been so confusing.

Also, yeah, Avengers has definitely had a LOT of foreshadowing.

Iron Man, Iron Man 2, The Incredible Hulk, Captain America, and Thor all had after-credits scenes that referenced Avengers in some way. The one from The Incredible Hulk was completely ignored, though...

      ReplyDelete
    16. @Bombedrumbum

I think "cutscene" usually means a non-interactive portion of a video game. Wikipedia calls it a "post-credits scene" among other things.

They've been planning this movie for years. Both Iron Man movies, Captain America, Thor, and the most recent Incredible Hulk movie were all the "puzzle pieces" they built The Avengers from.

There are supposedly little hints to other movies within each of them. For example, I've heard that Captain America's shield is in Tony Stark's lab in Iron Man 2.

    30. The brony sat there. The bright sun burning his head as the desertic wind blew a lukewarm breeze that carried the sand dunes. It had been minutes, hours even, since he had last seen life. The wait was unbearable.

Thrusting down with his hand, he grabbed some sand, uselessly throwing it into the mercy of the winds, watching it spiral away.

His attention was drawn to an irregular round form that bounced and rolled intermittently across the hot ground.

      “Thar them tumbleweeds,” he whispered.

The man wandered through the desert, as if pulled by an invisible force. He didn't know where he was going, how he got there, or why he was there but he knew to keep walking.

After hours of walking, he saw a shape sitting on the ground. As he walked closer he realized that it was another person; this was what he was being pulled towards, companionship in the vast desert that he thought he was alone in.

"Hello?" he said to the man.

The man responded, "Are you real?"

"I'll always be here, lurking in this desert"

    38. @Millennial Dan

self teaching is pretty sweet, what's your degree in?

      ReplyDelete
    39. @Ben Gibson

AS, General Studies. I specialized in calculus and physics, and also took several fairly worthless requirements like anthropology and art history. I did mostly enjoy the English courses, like college composition 1 and 2, and The History of Video Games, which was surprisingly intense on the writing end of things. Also some web design and office software stuff. That's basically my college education in a nutshell!

      ReplyDelete
    40. @Ben Gibson

Simple calc-based physics are what I understood best. I'll be honest, I struggled with physics concerning higher level electrical stuff...

      ReplyDelete
    41. @Millennial Dan

oh bummer.... still pretty interesting though! I prefer quantum, theoretical, and nuclear. And lots of other things

      ReplyDelete
    42. @Millennial Dan

      Physics, how do they work?

I never really took any kind of physics. I was good at science in school and the most advanced science I took was chemistry for a few months in high school, until I ended up being home tutored when I couldn't walk again.

Well, unless you count the biology and "multidisciplinary science" (a bit of biology, geology, a tiny bit of physics pertaining to light and water) I took as requirements in college.

      ReplyDelete

      ReplyDelete
    45. @Ben Gibson

Yep, those were all definitely outside my scope, I don't think that college even offered too many of them in fact. I would have probably gotten into it even more, if my instructor wasn't a total deadpan that looked exactly like this, only a lot less friendly.

      ReplyDelete
    46. @ClosetBrony

O, rly? That's awesome, actually. I rarely come across anyone else who markets this stuff, for whatever reason.

      ReplyDelete
    47. @Millennial Dan

That's pretty funny, most of my science knowledge is self taught though, because I know I'm not smart enough to get an actual job in one of those fields, so I self teach and go to school for something more tangible

      ReplyDelete
    48. @Ben Gibson
I'd take more science courses, but while I think I could get into a hard science field, I probably wouldn't enjoy it much.

      ReplyDelete
    49. @Millennial Dan

Eeyup, I got a single cup coffee/tea maker one year (which I still have). Various pen/pencil sets, desk organizers, paperweights, etc.

Interestingly enough, my employer has a division that does custom embroidery. They do a lot of work for incentive gift companies. What a small world!

      ReplyDelete
    50. @Trotsky

That's one of the main reasons I didn't pursue it further, even though math comes fairly easily to me. I actually kind of despised the tedium of lab work and such. Sad, really, I was always fascinated with the sciences far more BEFORE I went to college. Like Ben, the I find the information to be interesting, but the actual testing and studying? Nope.

      ReplyDelete
    51. @Trotsky

see the thing is, getting into the field in general probably isn't that hard as long as you get a good degree, but the chances are that unless you are literally a genius, you're probably not gonna get the job you think of. I wouldn't want to end up analyzing some data all day every day, I would want to be the one making discoveries, but you have to be REALLY smart to do that.

      ReplyDelete
    62. @RavensDagger

Well, one way to say it is it feels like I'm being ignored. Not by you guys of course, just in my town.

I've been at the job hunting game for over a month now, and despite hading out resumes and applications to everyplace I could see, most of them with sign that say "Help Wanted", I haven't heard anything back. And my funds are starting to run thin.

Not just that, but I am just not too happy with what I've done with myself up to this point. There's alot, and I mean, ALOT of mistakes I've made in the past. All of them I regret, and despite having paid my dues for them (at least I think I have), I still feel like some of them come back to bite me.

I have also seem to have little to no friends IRL, I only talk to people online, so I'm almost always alone.

Add that onto the fact that I'm constantly judging myself for every little thing about myself that I feel isn't perfect or at least good enough...its like I've taken my philosphy of "glass half-empty" and just applied it to everything.

I have very little that beings me joy, but nothign to make me truly happy. I haven't been what soemone could consider "truly happy" in years. Not since before High school, cause none of those years are plesant. So for almost 10 years I've not had that feeling of happiness or pride. That's basically what's got me so messed up right now...

      ReplyDelete
    63. @ZeroHero
      Oh, damn.

I can sympathise on a few points, I too have no real friends, and work is scarse. I know what that's like. As for something to derive pleasure from. Well, I have my religion, that always gave me pride and something ot look forward to. I don't want to get all pleachy...

People need goals to live by. No matter how stupid they are.

I wish I could give you some honest, good advice, but my methods of coping with depression are... depressing to most.

      ReplyDelete
    64. @ZeroHero

I feel much the same way.

I've been looking for work for about nine months at this point, even terrible office work I despise, and haven't heard anything back from anywhere I apply.

I'm also completely devoid of friends in real life. You guys are pretty much it for online.

I have people criticizing me for what they perceive to be "laziness" and an unwillingness to work, but they don't see the effort I put into trying to find something, anything.

Add to that the fact that I was incorrectly diagnosed as Manic Depressive (Bipolar Disorder) when I was 12, and a lot of my family considers me crazy. I'm not Bipolar, but I am depressed, and I have been for about 14 years now.

It's mainly a combination of physical disability, social isolation stemming from physical disability, and lack of freedom/independence, also stemming from physical disability.

What I'm saying is, having bad knees sucks. HARD.

It's been the cause of most of the problems in my life. (my father, who I'm convinced has Borderline Personality Disorder, is the cause of the others)

If you have your health, and a good relationship with your parents, everything else can be sorted out fairly easily.

The economy is a bitch. I won't go into my opinions on the economy because it would just lead to pointless impotent rage.

Something will come up eventually. You're in school, right? That's something that can really help you at this juncture.

    65. Well, my high school years are only just beginning, so....yeah. I mean, if there's one thing that i've learned from you guys, it's that these years really matter. Seeing people through various stages of life, it's really motivating.

I too have pretty much no friends IRL. I seriously wonder what all of our lives would have been like if THIS all never happened.

      ReplyDelete
    66. @MyBoyJ

      Yeah, that true.

It's funny though, and please please please don't take this personally Jim, but I have seen/heard this time and time again. Every time I try and voice my problems to someone, in the hopes I can get some clarity to my emotional issues, they always come back to me saying somethign about themselves that is in some way worse off than me, thereby making my problems seem insignificant and pointless. In short, making me feel even worse and also pissed off.

But again, please don't take that personally, it's happend before, and you didn't make it worse. I feel bad for you too, having a disablillity can't be easy. And feeling depressed is something I can easily relate to.

The worst I got that treatment was my old job in the restaurant, when every single time I tried to voice a problem I had, whether it was late nights, several work days in a row, whatever, they were all met with someone saying they've had it worse, making my problems meaningless. And that really, really, really pisses me off.

Sorry if I sound upset, because, well, I am. I'm tired of being ignored, tired of being put down, and tired of trying to get my life to actually be worth something, only to have it thrown back in my face.

The question I've been asking myself for years now, "When's it going to be my turn?"

      ReplyDelete
    67. @ZeroHero

I understand. I'm sorry if I made you feel worse. I'm in much the same position you are with people saying they have it worse, etc.

I don't really know how to help you. I wish I could help you find a job, or something, but it's beyond my means.

Just know that it will get better. How long that takes is anyone's guess, however.

      ReplyDelete
    68. I don't have it as bad as you, Jim, or anybody else really. I'm normal student leading a normal life. What matters is that we do something with our lives.

Zero, you aren't a zero. You can be a hero.

Okay, enough with the lame motivational jokes. This is serious. Now, I know that you've been looking for a job, but if you give up it will all be over for you. Keep going, and eventually I guarantee that tou will get one.

Dr. Seuss is a seriously undercredited man, he was a genius! In one of his last books, Oh, The Places You'll Go!, he talks about the journey of life. The reason I say this is because it is VERY deep, and it kinda applies to your situation. He admits that life isn't fair, and that sometimes you won't succeed. But he promises and guarantees that if you don't give up, you will make something of your life.

      ReplyDelete
    69. @ZeroHero

I know exactly how you feel. Depression is a complicated beast, and one to which I am well-acquainted. I know J empathizes, as many of us can. I've said before that sometimes it's hard to know what to say, and perhaps much harder still to know what to do.

Like RavensDagger, I have ways of dealing with those issues. There's at least one thing in my life that feels reliable, stable.

That issue of having no close friends to hang out with is also certainly a familiar one. It's funny how the internet has allowed people like us to locate others with similar interests, but they tend to be completely scattered abroad. I'm grateful for any of it, though.

I don't know what can do to help you, but I can try to offer at least a couple of pointers, if that's not too presumptuous. For one, I agree with the others; if nothing else, press on. If you're in a rough spot, the most detrimental thing you could do is stay there.

If finding employment is a way to move forward, than go after it with a vengeance. If education is another, then make the most of it. Those things aren't the end-all, be-all to finding purpose in life, I believe, but they're not a bad place to start either.

I know of some good ways of getting a job. But even better than that, I think, is knowing that somewhere out there, someone is on your side. I know we are, and that's a good feeling.

      ReplyDelete
    70. And, because this silence is not always golden, I'm posting this. I wonder if amddude would appreciate Discord's feelings on the matter. :P

    71. Thanks everyone. It's good to know someone out there is looking out for me. :)

Today was not one of my better days, that's for sure. My biggest problem with my situation is that im got so many problems, and not quick solution to them. Everything takes time, and I want out faster than that. I just keep having to endure all of the crap that gets thrown at me.

      ReplyDelete
    72. @ZeroHero

I know exactly what you mean. While the saying is true it doesn't change the fact that whatever is troubling you is significant for you. It's also the reason why it is difficult to gain the clarity you seek because that clarity is also unique to you. You can get advice and opinions and the beauty of it all is that you get to decide how take what you've heard/learned and apply it to yourself. It will get better and you will be able to walk away a better person. It'll just take time. (I know, I know, another one of those 'yeah, that helps' sayings but it's true.) Just don't give up.

Dr. Seuss did sum it up pretty well. Here's a well done YouTube video of Oh, the Places You'll Go!,

I'm going to be playing what I think is a villain in this story. It's going to be an audiobook of the story with me playing the part of David, who, as far as I can gather, looks exactly like Harry Potter.

I admit, I've never read it, but it seems to be kind of legendary. Held up alongside Past Sins and Fallout: Equestria as one of the best pony fanfics. Of course, I could be completely wrong, but it is still well known.

They're also making an animated version of the story, and I've been asked to play David in that, as well.

No, but I'm trying to get into doing it professionally. I've done funny voices and accents for as long as I can remember, so I might as well try to make a career out of it.

In somewhat related news, my mom went to high school with John Moschitta and she's friends with him on Facebook (for whatever that's worth).

She's planning on directing him to my voice demo and asking him if there's any way he could help me with voice work.

I told her that she probably shouldn't demand things of a moderately famous person she hasn't talked to in 40 years (or ever, since they weren't in the same class), but she's doing it anyway.

      We'll see how that goes.

      So many Brony radio shows!

I love that Dash guitar game. If only I could actually make music...

I remember seeing that Advent calendar when this was first posted and I was considering ordering it online from Europe. I mainly wanted the Rainbow Dash blindbag inside. (this was before you could get blindbags in the US.

I never knew what Flutternet is, and it doesn't seem to exist anymore. Or maybe it does and I don't know how to use it.

      Yes, I do think I'm a Brony.

General Mumble is best advertising major. (or whatever)

First off, congrats on being selected for the voice acting part MyBoyJ!

Well, honestly, that opening Lyra image looks kind of creepy...

Well, I don't have any ponies to mold manes on anyway.

Halloween party? This roundup was THAT long ago? Wow.

      "...with a toll free number..."
Totally read that as a troll free number :P

Rainbow Dash guitar game? Sounds pretty cool.

I may have said it before, but I vaguely remember this post from back when it was posted. I definitely remember that Advent calendar.
Aren't Advent calendars for Christmas? What's with the Halloween Party up there then? Hmm, odd.

Never was a big fan of IRC chatrooms.

Sorry for being "that guy", especially after all this time, but "your" is used for possession, ie, "Where's your hat?", whilst "you're" is the contracted form of "you are". I'm pretty sure the latter was supposed to be used...

General Mumble makes some really good stuff. I'd expect anyone to use social media to get a larger audience.

      No comment really.

That Ponymon thing looks really cool. I never really played Pokemon as much as I know other people have played for. (Does that sentence make sense?)

      Haha, I can't sing...

I want that fridge. I NEED that fridge! I really like that fridge's mane? Plus, no one would suspect it to be pony related, especially since it has Berry Punch's and Applejack's cutie marks. Fluttershy's may garner some suspicion though...

Probably just trolling and including ponies so they can get more views.

Haha, those reactions! It reminds me of my friends' reactions when I made them bronies. Along the lines of, "WHY DO I LIKE IT SO MUCH?!?!"

I'm pretty sure, with the current rate of pony stuff, that that is going to be a near impossible task, especially since not every pony related thing gets to EqD. But still, it'd be pretty awesome.

I'll just say it again, haha, I can't sing! Or draw... I could do some poems, but I'm pretty sure the contest has ended by now

I still don't have any ponies.

Invade ALL the webcomics! It'd be pretty awesome if someone like xkcd or The Oatmeal posted ponies. Both of them have pretty huge followings.

Frame Rate Pony Productions? Never heard of that either.

The title says "Subtitle Compilation Doc", yet the actual doc is a guide on HOW to create subtitles...

I can't open the merch, so I can't say much about it.

Well, those are my thoughts on the above post. Until next post, fellow bronies!

      ---

I assume you're talking about Dr. Discord? Oh well, we just have to wait for him to show up. I'm pretty sure he's online on Steam most of the time, so I guess you could leave a message for when he logs on. If he's offline on Steam, I got nothing

I have a modeled pony, but when I tried following the instructions for the hair, it didn't work like I thought it would. Plus, Applejack came with only one hair band, and what am I supposed to do with only one hair band?

    104. Alright, let's get this party done. Here're my thoughts about Nightly Roundup #126:

      1. As the others said, this is a nice enough Lyra pic, and her eyes are a little strange... Other than that, I got nuthin'.

      2. A guide on how to make custom molded manes from resin? I may be a brony, but I am nowhere near that hardcore.

      3. Meetups and stuff. There's a brony group somewhere around this neck of Colorado, I kin smell 'em. One of these days I'll track those guys down, and we can all... shoot, I don't even know what brony meetups do, dang it.

      4. Apparently, the brony talk show website Bronytalk.com is down! It sounded pretty interesting, though, I wonder when they'll be back.

      5. That Rainbow Dash guitar game looks like too much work to be fun, but that's just lazy old me talking.

      6. That ponified advent calender... It always amazes me that a North American–made cartoon's merchandise is often released first in Europe. Go figure.

      7. As for the Flutternet chat, I'm with ThunderIce, I'm not really into IRC.

      8. So You Think Your (sic) A Brony Episode 8. I never really listen to those, but I just now listened to the one featuring our own Dr. Discord. 'Twas amusing, to say the least.

      9. I read the whole article on General Mumble and his "Social Media Advertising." My inner grammar detailer was a little upset, but overall it's a decent read. The interviewer wasn't really interested in ponies, but hearing from a popular artist like Mumble is always amusing.

      10. That Celestia pillow reminds me of the question EqD recently asked, which was: if you just discovered your pillow is a changeling, what would you do? Best answer: "*Looks at pillow. Rests head.* Wuv you, Chrysalis!"

      11. Ponymon, then merely a demo, now released, to the joy of pokemon-loving bronies everywhere.

      12. A parody song? Man, there have been so many collective songs made, it's pretty cool.

      13. We like to just simply call this: "The 120% Cooler"

      ReplyDelete
    105. 14. Oh, that. Hardly any of the video is about ponies, but the whole situation is 100% lame. Bringing up harmless cartoons in a show like that? Absurd. Someone was trolling, and Seth jumped right on that bandwagon. It was a dumb post, totally incendiery.

      15. That site says there's a new episode this week... NOPE.avi

      16. Actually, this was a lot of fun to read. I liked how most of them acknowledged the cute that is Fluttershy. Yay Japan!

      17. The Big Book of Brony. I hear that fell on hard times, lots of criticism for poor communication skills and such.

      18. Song/Poem contest on Facebook. Oh, how we all love to be motivated by pony swag. Good times.

      19. How to photograph pony figurines. How useful! See, you got your artistic bronies, practical bronies, literary bronies, movie bronies, organizing bronies, cooking bronies, science bronies...........

      20. Ponies=win. That webcomic=meh.

      21. Frame Rate Pony Productions. Looks like they haven't actually made too many videos over the past few months, what a pity.

      22. Subtitle Compilation Doc. For the hearing impaired who need poneh! Looks like quite a few have been done already.

      23. Merch/Ebay Stuff. Nice Luna painting, SO MANY BUTTONS, and some very expensive ornaments. Did I miss anything?

      ------------------------------------------------------------

Okay, now for the reason I took so long to get to my closing comments. I had a sudden inspiration that I should upload a new video to a brand new channel on YouTube. Want some happy tunes?

That's going to be my second theme song right behing the one Dom gave me.

So then, another comment section is maxed! I don't know about you guys, but I'm a little relieved to not have to look at that "Smurf everything? Even Smurf me?" comment any more. Victory is ours.

      ReplyDelete

I had tried the Rainbow Dash guitar game on my computer. It was harder than figuring out my fl studio that was right next to it :P

So you think you're a brony? Well, like Discord here agreed with me on a couple months back, we both like the fandom a bit bette than the show. Doesn't mean that we don't like the show, it just means that we aren't the superfans who know everything about every scene.

Ponymon. I'll admit, I only grew up with one Pokémon game, and it was for the n64. But I LOVED the show as a kid (still kinda do). I even have the movies like Mew vs Mewtwo on VCR.....

Funny thing is, yesterday you pointed out my name was missing on MyBoyJ's list...

    114. Ok, I know I didn't comment on the above post like I think I was supposed to, but I will at least say this:

That Lyra's eyes freak me out..

Because of that molded hair guide, I now kinda know what Rarity would look like with yellowish hair. X)

      That's all.

Now, to some fun stuff. X)

Long story short, I came across the MLP Name Generator, and went a little crazy with the names. So here are some names for you all to enjoy. ^_^
How this worked was, the more names I had to work with (duskwisp/Dom and Zelos/Cloudy, for example) the more name combinations I could do. For some of you, I could get only one.

Millennial Dan: Nickel Aura, Nickel Tempest, Magnificence Trinket, Nimble Trot, Brilliant Dare, Brilliant Dash.

Bombedrumbum: Brother Beard, Emperor Bauble, Prince Mustang, Rainbow Dash (Yes, I said Rainbow Dash)

      Dom: Stormy Twister

Dr. Discord: Moonstone Diadem, Doctor Scorch, Southern Vigor

ClosetBrony: Cultured Crown, Sunset Harmony, Chocolate Brownie

MyBoyJimmy: Amethyst Bijou, Milky Bloom, Stormy Boil, Merry Bolt, Amethyst Brilliant, Flame Vision, Nimble Flight

      Dublio: Brilliant Lionheart

Jelfes: Steel Tempest, Flame Tempest, Flare Flourish

      Ben Gibson: Brother Vision

ZeroHero: Emperor Feather, Zephyr Haste, Silver Feather, Silver Hero, Silver Haste

Cloudy Haste: Lord Treasure, Blueberry Blast, Garnet Band, Gallant Beard

      Trotsky: Royal Coronet, Brother Risk

      amddude: Duke Smoulder

RavensDagger: Regal Pendant, Darkly Beard, Eastern Dart

      ThunderIce: Northern Force

Travis Smith the Last Shadowbolt: Sterling Seethe, Majestic Solitaire, Master Bolt

      Shining Bind: Lightning Beard

      CityFlyer502: Lightly Smoulder

So, my brony friends, if none of the ones I found please you, you can make combinations of your names to get different results. :)
