Synopsis: It's Nightmare Night and the macabre celebrations are in full swing when Luna herself shows up in Ponyville, determined to change her frightening public image.

ReplyDeleteAs for the episode, I really don't know how this one will go down until we see it, Luna being a big ball of Fanon except for the fact that she's sorry about the whole Nightmare Moon thing when it was all said and done.
This must be the "scary" episode Jason hinted at. I so hope that that synopsis is correct, as this sounds like it would be an amazing episode.

Evil Luna Expalanation - Absolutely love it.That she's actively trying to prove herself changed rather than sitting in the castle and moping and such, like so many fanfics portray her is great. Also it gives an excellent explanation for that one image.

Luna's obviously going to be having a lot of fun with this, as shown by yesterday's screenshot, and most everything paints her as an incredibly reclusive and shy pony who's too busy dealing with her personal demons to have any sort of fun.

Frankly, it all adds up: Luna hasn't been seen for a year or so because many ponies still associate her with Nightmare Moon and she's finally decided to change that. I expect what pushes her to do this on "Halloween" night is all the kids dressed as Nightmare Moon/Luna for scary costumes.

And finally getting to see what Faust and company had in mind for Luna, as opposed to the plethora of fan content (which while often startlingly good is non-canon) is a major plus.
I'm just wondering what the "friendship lesson" is going to be from that one. It can't be "don't judge a book by its cover" since they did that already. Probably something more along the lines of "people make mistakes and forgiveness is important" or some such.

@TheWerePonyActually it's probably best that they keep their hooves off a Christmas episode. There's no overt religion in Equestria, so it'd have to be entirely a secular holiday based around the solstice, or worse, commercialism and gift giving (shudder). The former would probably give Jack Chick a wet dream about the tracts he could publish decrying Pony as irreligious and full of lesbians, while the latter runs the risk of being really, really trite and overdone.

"Nightmare Night"? That's...that's horrible. Your princess falls into darkness and you spend a thousand years celebrating it with festivals? Dear god, no wonder we haven't seen Luna around for ever. ReplyDeleteOh you can get away with having a christmas themed episode. Just call it something else, like how in the world of Homestar Runner, they call it Decemberween. Although Winter Wrap Up might even count as a christmas special, though Rainbow Dash does say "Three months of Winter Coolness, and Awesome Holidays". So, there's that. Don't write it off yet.
ReplyDeleteI hope they do, Christmas special are normally heartwarming ones. Anyone remember the Pinkie and the Brain Christmas Special? It got that Emmy for a reason.
A Halloween episode? Please say there is a christmas special too!

ReplyDeleteI just hope that she has at least cameos in future episodes. With her now "out of her shell" she should be at her sister's side more, and maybe, Twilight should occasionally send Luna a friendship report... maybe something to help Luna as well.
If they don't... I'm getting my torch and pitchfork... I really have them in my garden shed. I'm being serious guys! Hasbro's in New Jersey, right?

My only question would be why they would air a 'Halloween' episode on the 22nd instead of the 29th. Is there going to be another break in episodes?

ReplyDeleteThat's exactly what I'm wondering as well. Unless they're planning on having two Halloween episodes (Which is unlikely because they only mentioned one "scary" episode) then it would make infinitely more sense to air the episode the closest Saturday to Halloween as possible (Which is the 29th).

ReplyDeleteI cannot possibly fathom the amount of PMVs that will spring from this episode. Possibly way too many. But it's fine that way. ^^
Well don't rule out the Two Parter Possibility. Luna is deserving of such. The first one can be silly spooky stuff then the second one can be scary spooky stuff. Although I doubt that's the case, otherwise the episode would be listed as part 1 (although the first episode went by the title of Mare in the Moon in the tv listings initially).

You bring about the topic of religion affecting the possibilities for episodes, but then you over-look the fact Halloween both is and is affected by religions.
ReplyDeleteAs-to the reason of the 22nd over the 29th, they'll probably have a Halloween-themed block of programming, including a rerun so everypony can see me for two weeks.

ReplyDeleteBy money's on Luna not realising what day it is / not understanding the holiday since it's post-NMM, and scaring a ot of ponies. Hijinks ensue. In the end, it gets cleared up and we get another letter to Celestia. And maybe another one to Luna.
As much as I did to avoid spoilers for the premiere, I found myself clicking this. That's mighty interesting.
