• New Twilight Sparkle Plush + Canterlot Setup

It looks like the Canterlot set displays are popping up at various targets around the USA.

Included are a few new merch items that haven't really been reported on yet.

Above is a new version of the Twilight Sparkle plushie.  It does have sort of a strange nose thing going on there, but at least it isn't a copypaste of the old g3 models. Total cost for it is 20 bucks, not too bad really.

For those interested in seeing what the actual display looks like, you can find that to the right.  It's pretty elaborate to say the least.  If I was a 12 year old girl, I would be all over it.

    I think!

Anyway have another image after the break! Thanks to everyone for the pics, and Elton for letting me know!

    2. Oh Celestia! What is wrong with Twilight Plushie's face?

      ReplyDelete
    3. As a girl who's collected stuffed animals all her life, I must say...

      "DO WANT."

      ReplyDelete
    4. Look! A BRONETTE!

      ReplyDelete
    5. I totally have that blanket in the first pic.

      ReplyDelete
    6. *GASP* I really want that stuffed toy... They need not make a pinkie and fluttershy too! :D I hope these are released in Australia soon :)

      ReplyDelete
    7. There's something odd about that pony...

      "Are you a SPY!?"

      ReplyDelete
    8. Seen the Pinkie Pie plushies in Toys R Us, but looks like they're coming out with other characters now too. Cool. Though of course they look a little odd. If only I had more money and there were actually Targets anywhere close by.

      ReplyDelete
    9. How is it we can get a white show accurate Celestia for the standee for the toys while not getting the same for the actual toys? That is both amusing and eye twitchingly annoying. :)

      ReplyDelete
    10. Not exactly "on-model", is it?

Keep trying, Hasbro. You'll get it eventually.

      ReplyDelete
    11. It seem's a little off to me as well seth, but nonetheless at least plushies are starting to appear! Still poking around for that throw blanket.

      ReplyDelete
    12. Its the Luna toys too, wonder if my Target has these yet...

      ReplyDelete
    13. That plushie is definitely not twilight sparkle =( idc what a tag says i will not accept it as fact unless it is PERFECTION!

      ReplyDelete
    14. I don't that I'm not either 12 years old or a girl.

      I demand this.
      ALL OF IT.

    15. Aw come on Hasbro, that plushie is... strange. I want the Celestia / Canterlot display backdrop though!

      ReplyDelete
    16. What I'm wondering is . . . where's the castle? I just had twitchy pinkie finger plus achey knee plus blinky eye combo--that means "There's just gotta be a castle playset."

      ReplyDelete
    17. If they come out with Lyra, DO WANT :D

      ReplyDelete
    18. Celestia is still pink, and Twilight's Plushie has no bangs...you're ruining my second childhood and first fillyhood!

      ReplyDelete
    19. I'm tempted to do a Red Letter Media-style review of that plushie just so I can say "What's wrong with your faaaaace?"

Otherwise, looks like it's time to get back down to Target. Still haven't found the blanket yet...

      ReplyDelete
    20. Not the best, but I'll guess it'll have to do for now. That is, if it ever pops up here in Sweden...

      ReplyDelete
    21. Contain yourself...they tried...they really did...oh who am I kidding. That plushie is coming nowhere near my house. It would keep me awake at night with his cruel, evil stare.

      ReplyDelete
    22. I. Just. Don't. Get. Merch bronies.
      No offense.

      ReplyDelete
    23. I have a strange feeling that says that plush's horn should flop over at some point, honestly I wish I knew how they make the horns stay stiff.

      ReplyDelete
    24. I wish I worked at Target so I could grab that Celestia display when they take it down. >_>

      ReplyDelete
    25. I reckon that it's the hair that's making her look so odd. It's the way that all they tend to do for hair is a strip of hair down the seam along the back of the head, the resulting fluffy looking stuff resembling more like a limp Zecora-ish mohawk that flops down one side of the head. Alas, anything else would have a big impact on production costs...

But that's the best overall looking plush body they've come up with. I kind of dislike how the legs get larger towards the hooves in style, but it's kind of nessecary in order to stand up like the photo, and far less ridiculous looking than past incarnations.

All said and done, if it weren't for the hair, that'd be the first pony product I'd have actually considered buying...

      ReplyDelete
    26. Wow, how does the design team look at that and say "Perfect!" Do they not care? They have to know Twilight has bangs, and that her muzzle is actually higher up than that! It seriously looks like they just took a ball, stuffed it, then put the muzzle on.
So far we're better off just looking for the custom plushies at our local comic-cons. :P
Except for the pinkie pie, at least that one looked okay in the few images I saw of it.

Dammit, I wish we had that kind of display in one of the stores around here :[

    28. Hasbro needs some plushie lessons from some of the plushie makers here in the Brony community.

      ReplyDelete
    29. Dang everyone and their ability to buy this at will. I want! But parents won't let... It's simply unfair to be a Brony with parents who don't accept Bronydom! MLP is manly and acceptable... *mumble*

      ReplyDelete
    30. I want a Fluttershy plushie D:

      ReplyDelete
    31. People also need to realize there's a difference between mass-production cheaply made plushies. And ones that are hand-crafted by artists. Of course there's a major quality difference.

      ReplyDelete
    32. I find it utterly hilarious that Celestia is white in the GIGANTIC STORE DISPLAY.... and the toy is still pink.

Way to go retailers. Way to go. Certainly thought that one through.

      ReplyDelete
    33. If you were a 12 year old girl?

Clearly, you are not a hardcore brony.

      ReplyDelete
    34. I figured it out! That's cancer-patient Twilight Sparkle. Mishshapen head from the tumor and treatment has caused her hair to fall out.

      ReplyDelete
    35. plush is still meh
but it looks better that those pinky and dash dolls they tryed to sell us that had recycled 3.5 bodies
(not to mention the dash dall had the old g 3 version of her mark)

    36. Twilight has terrible luck with her mane. However, if she is a spy.... TRIXIE! WE NEED YOU DETECTIVE SKILLS TO FIND OUT IF THIS IS AN IMPOSTOR! PLEASE YOUR GREAT AND POWERFULNESS!!!

    37. I see a single Luna thats not a filly... WANT.

      ReplyDelete
    38. Wait. Wait. On the right side of that display, next to the books, are those... DVDs?

      ReplyDelete
    39. That must be the plushie from Past Sins... designed to be attacked brutally...

I'm sorry to say it, but after what they did to her mane, this thing is only good for the firing range...

      ReplyDelete
    40. The newer Twilight plushie does look better than the older one at Toys"R"Us, but I'm sure Hasbro can still do better. It's decent so I'm still gonna get it though. :P

I at least hope Hasbro makes just-as-decent looking plushies with the rest of the mane cast or even better looking ones in the future. I need an Applejack plush!

    47. @Anonymous

Yes, I believe those are the 2-episode DVDs that were announced a little while ago. If I'm not mistaken, they'll have the episodes "The Ticket Master" and "Suited for Success" to go with the Grand Galloping Gala theme of the toys (but strangely, no "Best Night Ever").

      ReplyDelete
    48. Lucky! That Celebration at Canterlot DVD wasn't supposed to come out until August 1st.

      ReplyDelete
    49. @Dr. Orbital Death-Ray & Anonymous

Yes, I do believe they are -- but they're probably just a two episode set similar to the DVD premium that came with certain toys sold in Brazil.

      ReplyDelete
    50. Aimee here! Yes, those are dvds. They only had two episodes (Ticket Master and Suited for Sucess) were about $10. :)

    51. That Twilight Sparkle Plush needs a slightly smaller neck and a little more hair. She looks like she's been shaved in those photos but I haven't seen the toy in person so maybe its a bad angle or something.

      Yeah, no me gusta :/

All those Luna toys...*drools* I hate to say this, but the Luna brushable is the closest thing we're gonna get to a Derpy toy! The fashion one I love, although I think the toy is a bit too big for me :(

    56. Ooooooh, I hope that focal shows up at my store.

      ReplyDelete
    57. Okay, Hasbro, we need to talk.

So far I've seen Pinkie Pie and Twilight Sparkle plushies. This would please me, except for the fact that the mane and tail on both are RUBBISH! Seriously, both ponies look like they lost a fight with a weed whacker! Could you at least TRY to get the hair on-model? Or failing that, at least put enough hair there for a talented brony or filly to style into a more pleasing coiffure. KTHXBAI!

      How hard can it be?

      ReplyDelete
    58. Twilight plush Poison Joke edition.

But seriously...that looks awful. The one thing I'd seriously buy and cuddle and they come out with that.
      Hasbro, I am disappoint.

      ReplyDelete
    61. Hair is all wrong, should be coming over and splitting at the horn before draping over the forehead.

      ReplyDelete
    62. I GOTTA get that Twilight Officially Licensed PLUSH! I've waited so long for official plushes to come out! And is that a Luna toy in the bottom left? Mine too.

      ReplyDelete
    63. DAT MANE!!!!! That´s it, I´m making my own plushies even if it kills me, but hey, it´s not a simple decision for Hasbro I must say. If they made the toys 100% accurate they´d cost probably double or triple of any pony product. It´d be interesting to make a budget out of the raw materials and fabrication and then make a comparison to see if making accurate toys would be convenient.

      ReplyDelete
    64. I'd rather hunt down plushie artists that does commissions than to buy a detail failure like that. No offense intended.

      ReplyDelete
    65. What's wrong with that Twi plushie? T_T She looks like a purple hairy lump!

    68. Not such a big fan of this new Twilight Sparkle plushie. Compared to the Toys R Us exclusive, it kind of sucks.

      ReplyDelete
    69. That plushie is deformed...

I appreciate Hasbro's very generous policy of non-interference in the fan community, but I've seen fan-made plushies that are considerably better than this.

      ReplyDelete
    70. @Mrguyman
No you don't. It will ruin Fluttershy for you, trust me.

      ReplyDelete

    73. I require a plushie Fluttershy. Preferably one that says "yay" when you squeeze it.

      ReplyDelete
    74. I think what keeps aggrivating me about this, is that all of zellers in canada are in the middle of being transformed into targets, however this process is not complete.

No target in canada = None of this awesome exclusive pony merch in canada, unless zellers magically gets rights to it..

Whats a canuck to do..what a world what a world...

      ReplyDelete
    77. Oh good God I want that Celestia display!

A fluttershy plushie would pair perfectly with the arduino sound circuit used in the Portal 2 Turret plushie. Just replace the sound files with Fluttershy quotes. "Oh I'm so frustrated I could just kick something!!! tink, wobble-wobble"

      ReplyDelete
    78. ...I'm sorry, but that Twi plushie just creeps the hay outta me.

      ReplyDelete
    79. Hasbro REALLY needs to hire some of those genious' from DA. Their plushies are insane. I'm gonna give hasbro a little more time before I place a custom order.

      ReplyDelete
    80. Twilight, did you get a haircut? No? Then why do you have a freaking Mohawk?

      ReplyDelete
    81. Suddenly I need to go to Target! The plushes are better, personally I'd still replace the mane with felt though.

      ReplyDelete
    82. Does anyone have the DCPI for the comforter? Or the Twilight plush?

      ReplyDelete
    83. that plushie sure is...
      something.

      ReplyDelete
    84. Better than the old Twilight plush, by the look of it... and neither of them are terrible, just a little weird. Also, it's $20, which is cheap enough to make it worth buying in my opinion.

    85. I'd really like one if the hair was accurate

      @ Sonic Flare

Sometimes if you ask the manager they'll give you the old cardboard decorations they hang from the ceilings and stuff. Don't count on it though. Tried to get Halloween stuff once, didn't work out.

      ReplyDelete
    87. So, today I went to Target. I get to the aisle and see... NO MLP merch at all!!! It's all been replaced by Clearance. I was there 2 days ago and got the Talking Sweetie Belle for $3.74... Seriously, it was clearance central.

I walk a little further down, passed 2 more aisles and I see the new section. Top to floor, one full shelf segment of nothing but MLP merch. I managed to pick up AJ's weird as hay truck thing for a couple bits.

Most importantly, they had the new Carousel Boutique, Princess Celestia/Luna Fashion Pony double pack, and and the smaller Canterlot set with Shine Brite Twilight Sparkle and that recolor Starbeam Twinkle or whatever it is.

First... I have official Luna, now am happy! :D

Luna looks like she's still just a filly. Stupid Hasbro. Cutie mark on one side only, stubby horn, but NICE BIG wing boner taller than her head. That's cool. Her horn, wings and cutie mark are covered in glitter. The Celestia toy is the same... LITERALLY the same. Both Celestia and Luna, are standard fashion ponies with wings glued on. I suspect It's the body from the new Fluttershy Fashion Pony with a Rarity unicorn head. (Yes, they have a Fluttershy fashion pony shown on the "other products" insert they include with the new Canterlot and Boutique sets) Their hair has "tinsel" mixed in with the normal strands which actually makes it sparkle under proper lighting conditions. I like my new official Luna, but still demand Hasbro step up their game. It truly looks nothing like Luna.

Fact is, all the new Canterlot toys, plus the Rarity from the boutique set feature the tinsel hair. The Twilight is, as I said, a Shine Brite, but with that tinsel mixed with her hair, At this point They only need a Shine Brite Fluttershy and AJ to complete the mane 6 in that series of toys.

      ReplyDelete
    88. There is a recolor unicorn in both the Canterlot set with Twi, as well as the Carousel Boutique set. There are two carousel ponies that can be detached from the rotating carousel that appear to be all new molds. The size is approximately equivalent to a blind bag pony, or the 4 pack tube, but it's a unique pose. There is a NON detachable post and saddle molded into the ponies. The pony will free stand on the post, as long as it's level and not bumped. One pony is pink with yellow hair. The other is Orange with Magenta hair (Scootaloo colors). Unfortunately, the saddle is clearly a saddle, though it looks sorta like folded wings. I imagine some moding could correct that. The two little ponies are earth ponies. Both are blank flanks, and even if you wanted to add a cutie mark, the saddle is very swept back, and covers most of the flank anyway. The eye decals are also simpler, consisting of only black, white, and no color. There is essentially no iris. Only a large pupil with whites of the eye and white refections. Both have a hair shape reminiscent of the Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash blind bag molds, but with a more brushed look, somewhere between filly Fluttershy and the blind bag hair. The pose is a traditional carousel pose, with it appearing as the pony was leaping through the air. The molding process is simpler than the blind bag ponies. The front and rear pairs of legs are fused, as too, the rear legs are also fused to the tail. The mold is a simple 2 piece mold with no negative spaces. Far simpler than a blind bag pony. The saddle also has a peg to mount many of the small animal accessories to, and the base has a hole that fits the standard size peg, of which there are actually 7 available on the carousel. I wish the carousel set had included more of these little ponies. Two isn't enough. Despite the relative simplicity of them, they are cute. The one looks enough like Scootaloo, that I'll unofficially make her the Scootaloo of my collection. I'll maybe someday mod the saddle to look like wings... or I'll be lazy and think about it.

The Carousel Boutique itself is large, and very plastic. It's worth the money because you are paying for an actual play set, and not a glorified box. It uses 2 batteries and plays the MLP theme song in a shortened instrumental variant. It's activated by pulling a slide that winds the carousel and activates the audio chip to play the song. Both the main level and the roof rotate, in opposing directions. The only way it could possibly be better would be if it came with seven white ponequins. and played Art of the Dress instead of the theme song... That scene would be right out of the show! :D

Give it time, someone will mod it... Hay, I bet someone will outright motorize this puppy sooner or later, and drop in a new audio circuit to have it do the whole song! Ha!

    89. The Target in my town is small. They did not have the standee style display. They also did not have the large $40 Canterlot Castle set. They did have a talking and apparently "walking" baby Pinkie Pie that reminds me of the Talking Sweetie Belle toy I just picked up, but adds motion to the mix. It appears to be one of those that sees you coming with a sensor, and talks to you in the aisle. It NEVER SHUT UP... So basically, it's totally show accurate! I did not pick it up. They had no other plushies or story plushies at my location. They also had none of the sheets or throws, or any other bedding. Have car, will travel, I guess if I want to find the other stuff.

I'm also realizing that the backs of each package provide some lovely FiM themed backdrops. For a child playing with these toys, or even setup in a display by a collector, some of the scenes are nice, and I've been keeping my inside backs of the packages. Each toy seems to have an appropriately themed backdrop.

Nice sets, but you're paying for a ton of stupid accessories. Also, I can't for the life of me figure out how the dresses even fit the princesses. Over under the wings, through, where do the straps go! I'm gonna go crazy trying to figure it out. Oh I'm so frustrated I could just scream! eee

One thing I do like, is even though the Canterlot set is nothing more than a printed, custom shaped cardboard box, it is big enough to actually hold all the small accessories of every toy I've acquired to date. It's actually proven to have a real use, so I'm OK with it. The book style case that the fashion princesses come in have a pair of pull out drawers to hold the smalls I just dumped it all into the Canterlot box. I left the dresses and my Pinkie Pie toothpaste in that box, and started filling in extra Mc Donald and 3" ponies. It holds quite a few. I imagine the large Canterlot Castle set could hold a bit too.

      Still wish...

The cases were plastic, not cardboard.
      Celestia wasn't pink.
      Luna looked like Luna.
Accessories would include a Microwave, Abacus, Gauntlet, and a Falcon animal friend (Totally read "Falcon". A real tear jerker of a sad, but heartwarming Luna story)

Also, Hasbro needs to release part 2 of the Friendship is Magic 5 piece Gift Set. Need molded hair ponies!

Can't wait for the 12 piece collectors set with blind bag ponies too!

Next project, get tiny beads, wire, and make a tiny square frame... assemble tiny abacus. My deformed Luna is lonely.
