• MLP + Tohou Spellcard

Yah, Rainbow Dash is the best boss... just in case you were curious.

This is a stage from a MLP/Touhou game someone is working on.

Various downloads can be found in the description of the video after the break!

    3. I would play this over and over.

I'd die repeatedly, but I'd still play it!

    4. This boss needs to be 20% cooler because it looks way too easy.

    10. Heh, I was wondering how long it would be before someone made an MLP danmakufu script.

    11. YESSSSSS
      I AM ULTRA EXCITE FOREVER

    12. Unfortunately, that seems like a spellcard too reliant on forcing memorization of how to avoid, rather than allowing reflexes and concentration to fill in at any point.

Such is the fate of most Danmakufu scripts.

It helps if you're the developer. And have invincibility.

    15. Beat this one? Good luck, Dash still has three more spell cards left! (hopefully one of them is more reflex-oriented. Memory would be Twilight's thing). Also, needs sfx!

One of Fluttershy's cards should feature her exploding TWICE. And Pinkie's should be as in-your-face and fourth-wall-breaking as possible.

      Derpy for EX boss.

Um, you wouldn't need to memorize anything. In fact, you couldn't, as the direction Dash comes from is the same as the one she just left from and she moves directly towards where you are. So you have to move out of the way each time. It's still harder than most of the Last Words in IN, although certainly not as hard as a few of them.

@above: he didn't get hit once, both bullets and characters have much smaller hitboxes than it looks.

    17. Marisa Vs. Rainbow Dash SO AWESOME and ive played this before, it's like a sandbox for touhou

    18. Sweet Princess Celestia!
      IT'S... BEAUTIFUL.

    19. I never really was big on ambiguous hitbox shots; I've always preferred attacks that are difficult to dodge but easy to gauge over attacks that are easy(er) to dodge but ambiguous in their danger.

That's just a personal preference thing, I guess.

    20. (confound my inability to edit)

That said, it looks like a pretty easy card to deal with, all things considered.

That's not my problem with it. My problem is that, without knowing what's coming, you will most definitely still get hit by the first dash without any idea how to avoid it since it's coming far too fast for human reaction time. You literally cannot dodge it unless you're already constantly moving (not a smart idea in a bullet hell game) or know that it exists ahead of time.

      @Thattagen
      >And Pinkie's should be as in-your-face and fourth-wall-breaking as possible.

We've got Koishi Hell for that.

    22. I was wondering how long it would be until we saw a MLP danmakufu.

Not that I'd ever be able to play it, but still awesome!

    23. Honestly, I think my favorite part of Touhou is how the game looks while it's being played, and judging by the video, ponies will make it even brighter and more colorful than it already was. This has a lot of potential.

    24. OMGOMGOMG!!!!! I almost started doing this myself but i was to lazy but this is awesome!!!1

    25. Oh my gosh Oh my gosh oh my gosh!!! :D Someones making a Touhou-MLP crossover?

Wait, that means I have competition D:

the hitboxes (the parrt that is used to calculate collisions) of both the player and the bullets is smaller than the sprite of the same.
the player per example, has a hitbox about this large: O

    27. I created this script, so let me clarify a few things (I now realize I didn't give Sethisto much to work with, sorry about that!) I'll put parts of this in the video too.

First, this wasn't really intended to be a part of a full game, but more like a random inspiration. Basically "the sonic rainboom looks awesome, let's see if I can do anything with it." I do have some ideas, so maybe I'll do more or make a game or something out of it, but it will probably take a long time if I decide to go through with it.

Second, the memorization aspect. The first half or so of that video is memorized. When I started the card, I knew I wanted it to look like a sonic rainboom at the beginning, and I wanted Rainbow Dash to be very fast. Yeah, I thought long and hard on that. Memorization turned out to be a side-effect of the "very fast". But since I was making it like a "last word", I was fine with that. The memorization is much like "Fantasy Heaven". But I can understand not liking cards with a memorization aspect. I did not enjoy learning Yukari's last word.

With that out of the way, in my opinion this is not a card that should be in a standard boss fight for the above reason. This should remain a "last word", a spell practice only card.

Third, I had no invincibility! But yes, when attempting to capture it, being the creator has its benefits (and no, that did not include making it easier!).

Fourth, sound effects. I might update it with some. I was having issues with the music so I just didn't bother. Lazy.

Anyway, thanks for the input everyone, and thanks to Seth for posting it! Hopefully I didn't come off as defensive, but I just wanted to explain that I'm aware it's kind of gimmicky and it's not something you'd see outside of a "spell practice" mode.

      End of long comment...

    28. I honestly didn't think I wrote that much. Haha, sorry for the long read!

u can start out with an easier version of the games: Bullet heaven by Mattlikesswords on newgrounds.com (the same guy that made the epic battle fantasy games). That game is easier than touhou, but its still a bit challenging, at least when it gets to the later levels.

    30. I was always curious about Tohou games but there is just so many of them, I never knew where to start. Whenever I asked someone, It descended into a flame war and I would just go back to playing R-Type.

    32. DO WANT. No seriously, this have to be DONE.

      ReplyDelete
    33. @Lily Surette

Too reliant on memorization? Since when was there a Touhou game that wasn't reliant on memorization?

      ReplyDelete
    34. I suppose it was inevitable that basically the two most creative fan communities on the internet would eventually cross. Now to look forward to the Great and Powerful Trixie boss fight.

    35. Oooh. Another MLP Bullet hell game? Play AS Touhou characters? Color me tickled.
