Looks like some official FiM shirts are finally showing up! They are actually pretty cool! You definitely wouldn't be able to hide your pony obsession wearing these though. The giant character images are pretty in your face.

ReplyDeleteWell, I guess I'm glad something is coming out, but really wanted some shirts that kind of hid it except to other bronies. Admittedly, I haven't even revealed my love of the show to most of my friends or family, but I'm not sure I'll ever be ready to wear any shirts like there. I am saddened by the lack of a "I <3 Fluttershy" shirt though, for all my other bronies that love Fluttershy and possibly the little girls that are supposed to watch the show too.

ReplyDeleteThe biggest clue to it being official (besides the say-so) is that in the top corner there, I can see the Mighty Fine logo. Mighty Fine are the same guys that make shirts for stuff like Adventure Time and other such cartoony wearables. They also sell to stores like Hot Topic and various other stores, so with some time and luck they'll be at a store in the next few months (I recall Double Rainicorn shirt took about 3 months from seeing it on the site to my local store)
So, unless it's some kind of crazy mishap or prank, they're likely legit. They only sell licensed stuff, otherwise they'd get their butt sued, since they're a for reals company and not some shy brony hiding in the corners of the internet.
Still, I'd like some better confirmation on this too, plz.
I could go for the "Deal with it" one with Rarity on it...oh, wait. There aren't any men's sizes. At all.

ReplyDeleteHave you checked out these? They aren't official, but the designs are both subtle and slick, which I love in a shirt. Most of them are jokes or images that would be instantly recognized by other bronies, but ignored by anyone else.
Actually, looking back, I'm kinda left wanting something that, I dunno, is a little bit less cheesy. Maybe some of the more common phrases, stuff like "Confound these ponies," "Welcome to the herd," etc, not "Check Out my Cutie Mark." *shudder*

"Deal with it" isn't bad. I could imagine someone walking down a hallway, people staring at the shirt with a pony on it, then they turn and say "Yeah, that's right, I like ponies." and then they point at the text on the shirt.
ReplyDeleteHowever, these shirts seem to be directed straight at preteen girls, with the use of "Oh, we just discovered what internet lingo is" and "Let's try to sound cool by using slightly-shortened versions of words". Soon, though, my bronies, soon some great person shall gain a license from Hasbro and create truly badass official shirts based on the show.

No way this is official... if they're making shirts targeting bronies, wouldn't it make more sense to make male shirts if you were only hitting one gender? I know girls watch it, but I was under the impression that most bronies were men.

Make the female sizes to test the waters, Wait and see how many ask for male sizes, then release male sizes with an idea of how many you would need and what designs.

It's nice that Hasbro gave them the greenlight to sell them regularly, but it doesn't seem to be from a legitimate fan of the show but more somebody looking for a quick buck. I've done freelance web design in the past for pawn shops and landscapers, having to take a crash course in jumping on fads to make fast cash, and that's kinda what I see here. I debate the intentions of this 'fan,' and think it looks like some business guy just latching on to a meme for sales. For starters, errors aplenty. As many have pointed out, misspelled Pinkie Pie, wrong eye colors, even a botched cutie mark on Rainbow Dash (blue outline yellow lightning bolt, what?).
ReplyDeleteSecondly, just random blurbs that aren't even from the show. No '20% cooler'? No 'You Are Going To Love Me'? They have 'Simply Awesome' for Dash, but not 'So Awesome'? And when does Applejack EVER embody the word 'Whatevs,' when quite contrary she's the epitome of hard work and-

David, those are templates that they're sending to hasbro, we weren't even supposed to see those. They're just, "this is kind of what the shirts will look like" and were slapped together to show positioning of text and images.
