We don't really post the 4chan news much anymore, but I figured the old /co/ folks that still visit (all 20 of you), and the /b/ronies would be thrilled to see this new addition to the armada of boards over at what is essentially the birthplace of pony on the internet.
It looks like they are either sincerely rolling with this, or trapping everyone for a massive pony ban. Either way, we are apparently relevant in the eyes of overlord Moot.
Anyhow, you can find the board here!
Note: I can't respond to all these emails! Thanks to everyone that sent it!

ReplyDeleteI'm not an authority on 4chan to really disagree with your assessment but I think you're selling the fans short.
The fans, specifically the Bronies (non gender implied) absolutley make this show.
As for your McDonalds analogy I see it this way: Mark Zuckerberg created Facebook in Harvard. Did "Harvard" create Facebook? No. But the general culture and collection of smart people at Harvard made the creation of Facebook possible.
It's the same thing. 4chan the actual website, or people running it don't deserve the credit but I don't think Bronies/Brony culture would've been created without the unique culture of 4chan to foster it.
don't worry guys, 4chan is filled with love and happiness and nothing remotely illegal happens there...
ReplyDelete@Mike
ReplyDeleteWell I suppose this news a good thing assuming moot and the mods are sincere about it.
I'm surprised how many bronies responded ambivalently or even negatively to this news. I guess the fanbase did most of its growing outside 4chan, after the mods enacted that ban. Kinda sad for them, since they lost so much potential site traffic by missing out on the whole MLP:FIM thing. The way it looks in the comments, I don't think the majority of bronies will be flocking back to 4chan any time soon, even if they've sincerely made a FIM board.
@Flutterfan
ReplyDeleteYour intuition is right: 4chan was indeed a catalyst without which the brony community wouldn't have started and we owe them that.
I was there to see it happen.
Well, this is an interesting development, but it seems to me like 4chan's a bit late to the party. This would have been much more significant a year ago, but it's still a nice gesture that probably needed to happen.
ReplyDeleteMoot didn't even add the link to /mlp/ from other boards ( just like every board has).
ReplyDeletei think he create a pony ghetto that will slowly die.
that way almost nobody will post ponies in other boards, /mlp/ will remain hidden and it will destroy itself.
umh anyway i hope that ends well, there are some potential in that board.
This would have been cool if it happened a year ago... when I still went on 4chan.
ReplyDeleteI remember moot from before 4chan existed and he's always been a pretty level-headed guy despite 4chan's reputation. That's not to say that he doesn't troll, for no man can say they have never trolled once in his life.
ReplyDeleteYeah I mean 4chan can be a nasty place but I absolutley love the creation story of how Bronies came to be.
ReplyDeleteI'm assuming the nice writeup on knowyourmeme.com is accurate. One article about the death of creator driven cartoons results in 4chan people watching the show and the rest is history.
I can't help but feel sentimental when visiting 4chan, like a Muslim going to Mecca. This is where it all began....
I wouldn't want to be a regular there but it's nice to visit once in a while.
Why would any brony go back to 4Chan after they way they treated us?
ReplyDeleteWe have got pony chan so why use 4 chan and get trololo'd
Inb4 trolling attacks from the other boards.
ReplyDeleteInb4 it turns into another /vp/.
Inb4 Moot has essentially just hung a bug zapper.
And thus on the 17th February 2012 the uneasy truce ended after the canons had stood silenced for years and the true peace after the great pony wars started. The memories will live on to never be forgotten and never be repeated.
ReplyDelete>>in best Apocalypse voice<< Rejoice in the return of MLP to Chan....for Twi brings the purity of love and tolerance to your world.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant comment.

"It’s like Hearth’s Warming. We have found an untouched paradise, but if we bring our old squabbles in, it will be reduced to a frozen wasteland."
I LOVE YOU MOOT.
ReplyDeleteLet's be the little girl and talk about ponies together!
There is no freedom from Fluttershy, only freedom THROUGH Fluttershy.
ReplyDelete@40387d3e-cd3f-11e0-b87b-000bcdcb8a73
ReplyDeleteSays someone from 4chan.
A-ha. A-HA. I love you so much, you complete and total idiot.
This is terrible.
ReplyDeleteOh wow. All this elitism from people regarding 4chan.
ReplyDeleteFact: Outside of /b/ and perhaps /v/ 4chan is no worse than say, Reddit and can potentially be better because the users don't have a little popularity number that is most easily increased by reposting stale unfunny memes.
Fact: The Brony movement started on 4chan. Regardless of how you feel about it this cannot be denied. Chances are unless you or a direct friend of yours watched the show of your own volition you can trace back the recommendation trail to 4chan.
Fact: Derpy was created on /co/. The pony that has come to represent this fandom and our dedication to the show.
Fact: 4chan ponyfags are not inherently worse than Ponychanners etc. or vice versa. Just because you don't see porn etc on Ponychan does not mean people on their don't look at it.
Rant Over
@zahwarudo 4chan is shit now, anyway. All you "tough" newfags just don't get the internet. Not like the rest of the internet "gets" the internet anymore, but dammit 4chan, you're supposed to be that shadiest of dealers I still manage to trust.
ReplyDeleteThe last time any thread made me laugh my ass off? The last time anything on /X/ was remotely chilling and not some dumb 12-year-old trolling about with fantasy stories with crappy twists at the end, with the bad grammar to eradicate ALL the potential chills along the way?
Yeah, 4chan ain't what it used to be. I'm not an OLD oldfag but if you're this much of a moron I must be older than you.
Your wry sense of dark humor has become 100% grade-A bullshit sarcasm without a point. You're neither funny nor organized nor even relevant anymore.
4chan you are now the "emo" version of Buzz Killington's and Ben Stein's awkward, but NOT adorable lovechild, with ugly extra penises which nobody seems to care for and the worst mullet I have ever seen.
Just, wanted you to know.
@ Mojo & Vipera and others:
ReplyDelete>Implying that the rest of 4chan is the opposite of /b/ and all nice and rainbows and friendly people singing kumbaya.
Also, that's how guilt by association works. any chantards should be familiar with it, it's how 4chan has been treating countless groups and individuals on the internet.
Associating all of 4chan with /b/ is merely the returning of that favor.
'Treat others how you would want to be treated yourself'... and I have lurked 4chan long enough (i'm ashamed to admit) to have gotten a pretty good picture of how 4channers want to be treated.
It can only harm the brony community to be associated again with the chan that brought us pedobear. Personally, DO NOT WANT.
I'll stick with Ponychan thanks.
ReplyDeleteI don't quite trust this..
ReplyDeleteI just, don't know.
I never used 4chan, I don't even know how it works or how to navigate on it, it's weird.
ReplyDeleteBut, I know that it's a very important part of fandom history so that news sure made me smile :)
this sucks... there aren't enough wanna be troll terrorist on /mlp/. i think i will miss the /b/ pony threads .<
ReplyDeleteThis is good news.
ReplyDelete@Flutterfan
ReplyDeleteYou can be sure that there will be arguments and trolls. But most bronies will do their part and love/tolerate or at the very least ignore.
It will be neither an untouched paradise or a frozen wasteland, but the full spectrum between the two.
@SweeTeeVee
ReplyDelete'twas a good rant
@zahwarudo
ReplyDeleteYou know bronies are children of 4chan? We survived everything. Now we are back to spread love and tolerance once again.
Nice gesture, but from my experiences of sporadic time I've spent lurking 4chan this isn't going to go great, the board is going to get trolled hard for quite a while.
ReplyDeleteForgive me if this sounds offensive (or self-righteous) but I'm feeling like the brony community are the native Americans of 4chan. Bronies were treated like crap, we were kicked off the good boards, later confined by the mods to small threads, and finally given our own land as a late apologetic gesture and are undoubtedly still going to be attacked and treated like crap. Yeah, I'm typically an optimist, but no thanks moot.
Why do I have a feeling that anyone who goes in there will be told repeatedly that there is cookies and punch by the locked door?
ReplyDeleteToo little, too late.
ReplyDeleteI remember when 4chan did this with furries. Gave them their own board, and everything.
ReplyDeleteIt was on April Fool's when it was created. It lasted a week, and was then promptly deleted. All who posted there, regardless of where they stood, were permanently banned.
Just sayin', it worked then...
Had a look. Within the first page of threads there were people calling others fags, telling people to 'gtfo back to ponychan', trolling and the beginnings of a flamewar.
ReplyDeleteEeeeyup, that's 4chan.
4chan =\= /b/ .... I LOL'd at that.
Yeah, I'll stay on ponychan, kthx.
ReplyDelete"Ponies haven't had a real home outside of /b/ and /co/ until today"
ReplyDeleteI like how they're assuming that someone was upset after being banned from 4chan and still wants to go back there.
It's a trap!
ReplyDeleteI would be careful if I were you 4chan Bronies, Never trust the people who hunted you down too quickly.
I loathe 4chan with a passion. That place is the exact opposite of love and tolerance. No good can come of this.
ReplyDelete>Haven't had a home outside of /co/ and /b/
ReplyDeleteMfw ponychan isn't our home.
>Haven't had a home outside of /b/ and /co/
ReplyDeletemfw Ponychan isn't our home.
@archiveit This fanbase is the exact opposite of love and tolerance. Your own comment is exemplary of that, actually.
ReplyDeletePONIES WOULDN'T BE SHIT WITHOUT /CO/
ReplyDeleteWE RIDE TOGETHER
WE DIE TOGETHER
/CO/ 5EVER (that means it's more than 4ever)
VICTORY!!!
ReplyDeleteWait, I don't go to 4chan. Oh well, it's good to see Moot (or anyone from 4chan for that matter) be sensible about things.
@NightStarX
ReplyDeleteIt all started there:
"On October 10, 2010, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic was aired as part of the debut of the new television network, The Hub, which replaced Discovery Kids. On October 19, 2010, Cartoon Brew[1] wrote an article about the show titled “The End of the Creator-Driven Era in TV Animation”, which had an oddly alarmist tone to it. Threads on 4chan’s comic and cartoon board, /co/, attacked and made fun of the article for this reason. The article and the threads generated /co/’s initial interest in the show, causing several members to go and watch the first episode. After the second episode aired on October 22nd, threads about the ponies started to boom even more, gaining the show fans outside of its target demographic."
@Derpy Hands
ReplyDeleteThat's a bit excessive, don't you think?
So moot burns my house down, and then shoves me into a hooverville full of sycophantic asses and serious business bronies.
ReplyDeleteNo, sir. I don't like it. It's either going to be /fur/ or /vp/, neither of which are good options.
I'm sticking with Ponychan and Ponibooru myself, I personally think Moot is trolling us all again and will shut down the board soon and permaban everyone who posted on it, so I'm staying with Ponychan and Ponibooru
ReplyDeleteOh 4chan, you so slow.
ReplyDeleteI USED O MATE MOOT UNTIL NOW!
ReplyDelete@Derpy Hands Why? Because I refuse to love and tolerate the cesspool of the internet? Love and tolerance is great, but once in a while you have to draw a line.
ReplyDelete@Ponyfag5lyfe
ReplyDeleteWhy don't you go away, fag?
I give it about a week at most before most of Ponychan starts to migrate over and ruins this board too.
ReplyDeleteAlso, inb4 another April Furs Day.
>No home outside of /co/ and /b/
ReplyDeleteMfw Ponychan isn't our home.
Good, bad , or indifferent.... personally I have no desire to go back to 4-chan.
ReplyDeleteOh my lol
ReplyDeleteThey need to go far more than that to earn some bronies' forgiveness.
ReplyDeleteIf brony anon is Luke, then Seth is Yoda and Moot is Vader. Is there still good in him? Can even Twi herself bring him into the light? As a pony lover and Braveheart fan, I have to believe that even though our current state is strong enough that we do not need a chan board of our own to remain strong, I also think that Moot is doing this genuinely. However, also as a Braveheart fan, if he declares peace then let him swear it on OUR board, not on his own. Posting the "peace offering" on chan itself is like too much like sending Princess Isabelle because you are afraid your own head will end up in a basket.
ReplyDeleteI have a feeling this is a trap.
ReplyDeleteAll this 4chan bashing. It makes me sad that the rest of the bronies absolutely shit on the community that shined love and tolerance into the cesspool that is 4chan. I'm more proud of my time spent with the /b/ronies than the rest of you negative nancy's. Call them what you will but I've seen the true colors of the /b/ronies and they are more vibrant and wonderful than any other pony community I've seen. Except the guys at MMOChampion. You guys are just as awesome.
ReplyDeleteNot sure if trap!
ReplyDeleteOh well, thanks for being generous to us for now, I guess.
Live and let live. This MLP section to 4chan will be an interesting addendum to the MLP:FIM write-up in Know Your Meme, regardless of whether it persists or not. Otherwise it's much ado about nothing. MLP:FIM lives here and in our hearts.
ReplyDelete@NightStarX
ReplyDeleteColon crucified? Learn your MLP history. I think it's funny that you think this fandom just popped out of nowhere overnight. EVERYTHING is due to 4chan. Even Ponychan is due to 4chan. Without 4chan, MLP would be yet another ignored cartoon on the cable.
Ah I see the seeds of chaos have developed nicely over night. Already I can see that a line is being drawn between older members of 4chan that happen to be bronies and the rest of the fandom. I'd proclaim "dance puppets dance!" but I think Moot gets all rights to that.
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed a flamewar is in full swing by this afternoon, or that Moot has sprung his trap and many lulz can be reaped from both sides.
I don't know if how legit this is, but I feel compelled to voice my opinions over this.
ReplyDeleteFirst, take down the link to the site. If this is a "trap" as so many others have suggested, you're making it worse.
Second, this is 4chan we're talking about. No /mlp/ board is ever going to stop the posting on /co/ or /b/.
Thirdly, this is too little too late. Some people may still like 4chan, I used to sort of. Then I realized they were pansy-asses for banning ponies and left.
Finally, this is like being banned, given candy for our misfortune, and simply banned again. I highly doubt any of this is legit in the slightest. Even if "Moot" is serious? One of his bat-shit-insane moderators will rage and ban the board anyway.
Don't fall for this.
I really don't see this ending well. But then, I don't see anything on 4chan ending well.
ReplyDeleteThis is the point of having older men as fans. They know shit. They can point out potential traps through their experience while others can't. Don't be so naive that you can't see the margin for trapping in this board.
ReplyDeleteHeard about you and your honeyed words.
ReplyDeleteWelp, gratz, we beat 4chan.
ReplyDeleteI find it amusing to see all chanfa... friends try and take credit for the popularity of MLP.
ReplyDeleteIt's almost as if it's popularity has nothing to do with the fact that it's simply a good show...
Seriously guys, ALL credit for MLP's popularity goes to the people who've made it good, not to anyone else. To say that there would be no fanbase without 4chan, is a slap in the faces of Faust and Studio B.
But hey, it's not unexpected that some people try and take credit for something. Especially chantar.... ehm chan visitors.
"Without 4chan, MLP would be yet another ignored cartoon on the cable."
mmmmmnope.
"Without 4chan, MLP would be still an awesome show"
Fixed.
Oh and Cyl... we're not shitting on the community that shined love and tolerance into the cesspool that is 4chan. We're just shitting on the cesspool that is 4chan.
I'm glad ponies got massbanned from 4chan when they did... if it had not been, it probably would still be a '4chan thing' and I would have never voluntarily associate myself with this fandom. If it turns into a 4chan thing again, I'll stop calling myself a brony. I'd still enjoy the show just as much, but I wouldn't want to be seen as a chantard.
Hmmm... not sure if want.
ReplyDeleteStill, when you look at it objectively, the fandom itself kind of has spawned such a large fanon-creating machine that fan interactions end up being just as important and frequent as the Pokemon board's need for interaction threads- it's really not all THAT surprising, from that POV.
Still, despite what many will say, 4chan DOES bear a whole lot of responsibility for the fandom's GROWTH (read: not EXISTANCE) since the contrast between the show and the 4chan community is a GAPING BLACK WHOLE of public curiosity/interest.
Say what you will about 4channers, but when it comes to popular fandoms, they have good taste (if not good people)
If it hadn't been for /co/, I wouldn't be here.
ReplyDeleteWhy do people assume that without 4chan the FiM fanbase would never have become as huge as this? I mean, is 4chan the only place on the internet where people discussed it? No. Do people need 4chan to tell them what to look up? No again.
ReplyDeleteA quality show like FiM would have garnered the attention it deserved with or without 4chan. 4chan only sped it along.
All these channers coming to honeytrap us sound very much like the abusive party in a bad relationship:
ReplyDelete*Jealous or possessive (Jealousy is the primary symptom of abusive relationships)
*Tries to control you by being very bossy or demanding.
*Tries to isolate you by demanding you cut off social contacts and friendships.
*Is violent and / or loses his or her temper quickly.
*Pressures you sexually, posts sexual activities you are not comfortable with.
*Claims you are responsible for his or her emotional state. (This is a core diagnostic criteria for Codependency.)
*Blames you when he or she mistreats you.
*Has a history of bad relationships.
*You frequently worry about how he or she will react to things you say or do.
*Makes "jokes" that shame, humiliate, demean or embarrass you, weather privately or around family and friends.
*Your partner "rages" when they feel hurt, shame, fear or loss of control.
*You leave and then return to your partner repeatedly, against the advice of your friends, family and loved ones.
*You have trouble ending the relationship, even though you know inside it's the right thing to do.
Why would Bronies ever want to go back to that ugly chan and its rabid, degenerate cruel population that kills and eats its own? This is all about moot trying to make ad money off us, boosting site traffic to pad the chan's reputation, and then massbanning us for lulz whenever he or his crew are tired of using us.
Anything that might have been done on 4chan, Bronies can do on their own and avoiding all the do-nothing channers inflating their own petty internet egos by taking credit for our work.
Bronies put together conventions with attendance from FiM cast and staff, not 4chan. Brony videos thrive because of talented, dedicated individuals making them, not 4chan. Brony fads happen when Bronies spontaneously sync and make magic, not because 4chan instructs us on what the next fad is. Brony music is a juggernaut - with show actor participation - that also raises a lot of money for charities, not 4chan. I don't think Michelle Creber, Madeline Peters or Claire Corlett would (or ever should) be exposed to the cesspool that is 4chan; the collab between Michelle and Mandopony might never have happened if we were associated with that dark corner of the internet.
Sorry channers, you accuse us of being elitist? No, we just discovered that we can actually respect ourselves for having some kind of worth, and don't feel like taking your abusive BS anymore. Now go back to /b/ and troll a "What Society Thinks I Do" thread or something.
I can see this ending so well... >_>
ReplyDeleteI give this a 90% chance of being the same trick they pulled back when they made that furry board and then banned everyone who posted on it and deleted the board.
ReplyDeleteReturn from exile on 4chan? Sounds almost biblical.
ReplyDelete1 "Now when all these things happen to you—the blessing and the curse I have set before you—and you remember them in all the websites where the Lord your God has exiled you,
2 if you turn to the Lord your God and listen to him just as I am commanding you today—you and your descendants—with your whole mind and being,
3 then the Lord your God will reverse your captivity and have pity on you. He will turn and gather you from all the websites among whom he has scattered you.
4 Even if any of your dispersed are under the most distant skies, from there the Lord your God will gather and bring you back.
5 Then he will bring you to the land your ancestors possessed and you also will possess it; he will do better for you and multiply you more than he did your ancestors."
Deuteronomy 30:1-6
Bronies are biblical canon! I knew it!
@Darkfoxx
ReplyDelete@Tore
You have summarized nicely everything I was thinking. Whatever "origins" of bronies you trace to 4chan, the fandom now stands and thrives on the quality of the show and the dedication of the fans. I have nothing against the bronies at 4chan, but I don't need the abuse from these "DON'T COME OVER HERE SPREADING YOUR STUPID BRONY WAYS" trolls.
I find this a good thing to keep some of the trolls otherwise occupied so should be a good thing for us as long as we keep out of there.
ReplyDelete*Tora
ReplyDeleteWhy I don't just turn off autocorrect is a mystery.
@archiveit
ReplyDeleteThe very first bronies loved and tolerated harder than you are 'loving and tolerating' now. You're disgracing them.
They were all like "Oh, you like spamming porn and gore, ok, that's cool man, we're gonna do our own thing. You can stick around and attempt to troll if you want, But we'll just warn you first: you won't get very far with that." And even when they were getting banned and stuff, they were like "Oh, you're permabanning me? Ok, whatever man, I'mma go make my own website then. I hope we can settle our differences in a reasonable manner eventually."
Now of course, they weren't unanimously that way, but the majority of bronies were very reasonable, laid back people at the time of the schism.
4chan is the scourge of the internet... avoid it like the plague
ReplyDeleteEverypony's quoting Admiral Ackbar, but nopony's quoting Obi-Wan: "You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. We must be cautious." Whatever else might be said of this whole situation, that's the bottom line as far as I'm concerned.
ReplyDeleteLive and let live? Nopony said we have to ever see that place again, but I figure the locals might enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteI might have giggled.
ReplyDeleteSo we've narrowed it down to 2 options:
1-they're honestly giving ponies a board on 4chan.
*-What are the chances that they'll still ban for pony on other boards?
2-it's a trap.
*moot. moot never changes.
Either way, I feel like this fandom has "outgrown" 4chan's hospitality whether or not you see this as an honest gesture. It may be nice to have /mlp/, but we don't NEED it.
Meh, who cares. 4Chan sucks in a big way.
ReplyDelete@Mike
ReplyDeleteFor me L+T isn't just ignoring what you don't like, it's literally caring for other people. Looking past the flaws and differences in your moral codes and treating them with value.
What you're describing I would probably call apathy with a cool head. Not that I'm making an ultimatum, as I didn't see it when it went down.
i honestly don't think this is a trap, it's more likely that they simply want to redirrect all of those that has been flooding the other treads.
ReplyDeleteThat being said, it's not one of the brightest sites on the internet, even if it has changed a lot these past years.
If you want an imageboard ignore this and go to ponychan instead.
>"I would ask that you try to centralize all pony related threads here in /mlp/, and direct fellow ponies from /b/, /c/ and others to this board"
ReplyDeleteSmells fishy
I advice caution bronies
@NightStarX
ReplyDeleteThank you for that. Seriously.
And to anyone who throws "Love and Tolerance" at you... ask them what good comes from loving and tolerating evil.
@Mike I'm sure they did, and that is why they were run out of 4chan. I've been to 4chan very few times, but each time I visit it confirms my opinions of the place. The brony community grew out of 4chan, like a lotus from a bog, and I will give it credit for that, but the community has moved on from that point in its history and I see no reason to try to reassociate with it. I will not be forced to love 4chan,nor do I actively go out of my way to hate it, and personally I would prefer to just ignore it and let it fester on its own. I just see this as a regression if the community starts moving more toward 4chan again instead of continuing to move on from it.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like 4chan just got 20 percent cooler
ReplyDeleteYEEAAAA *gets sniped*
Not that I know anything about 4chans traffic, but perhaps they're getting desperate for more?
ReplyDeleteThat or I should get my best Admiral Akbar impersonation down.
I've lurked on 4chan off and on over the years enough to know the score. Either this is Moot setting up a trap, or this is Moot trying to backpedal after seeing how big and successful the Brony community has gotten after they kicked them out, and trying to latch onto it using the whole "/b/ronies got their start here, so they should use us as their home" schtick (also: seeing the potential for ad revenue).
ReplyDeleteEither way, sorry 4chan, no dice. You had your chance to hop on the Friendship Express when it was leaving the station, but you turned your nose up at it. Now that you've seen the awesome destinations it has been to, you want on all of a sudden like you've been here all this time?
No. Back of the line.
hmm, probably going to collapse or end up in a ban just like the fur board did before. I'm especially skeptical because he said "tripfriends"
ReplyDelete@archiveit
ReplyDeleteAll right. Fair enough.
...On another note, seeing all those posts about what happened to the furries has made me want to wait until well after April Fool's day before joining in the posting there.
Permabans are a nuisance: do not want.
@shadowfalcon76
ReplyDeleteYeah. It certainly seems like they've missed their opportunity with MLP:FIM ( @Mike )
I pity them for that error of theirs.
Hey you guys do know pony STARTED on 4chan?
ReplyDeleteI read the comment Fenix a ways up there and can only laugh.
This blog used to go like hand-in-hand with the /co/ threads.
How about YOU do some research, Mr/Mrs Fenix. Go look at the oldest posts on EqD.
@iisaw
ReplyDeleteI'm no fan of 4chan, but calling them evil is giving them both too much and not enough credit.
However everypony feels about this sort of thing, it still is progress and admirable nonetheless. I don't see their board becoming as popular as ponychan, but it could likely be another resource for our herd.
ReplyDeleteeh. 4chan..... not for me.
ReplyDeleteIs that... Is that really where this fandom started? I need to wash.
ReplyDeleteThese comments are why I'm glad I avoid ponychan.
ReplyDeleteinb4 everyone who posts in there gets banned instantly.
ReplyDeleteEh we already have a great site here, EQD has enough of healthy debate, occasional less-healthy debate, and tons of news and content for the community. I guess if you like 4Chan its great and all.
ReplyDeleteI don't really think we need this. We have Ponychan, why go to 4chan?
ReplyDeleteAll this fear of 4chan is amusing.
ReplyDeleteThe fact that mlp got its own board is amazing. i've been to it, and it feels like a 4chan /pony/. There arent a lot of /co/lts and /b/ronies there. Sure theres trolling, but at least people talk about the show and not about how much they love to suck eachother's e-penis's.
4chan is not the kind of influence Bronies should want. While there are some civilized sections on 4chan, much of it is rotting from the inside. Just look how many times the word "fag" has been used in this thread! That's not love and tolerance, and it's not beneficial to the fandom as a whole. We don't need 4chan's "charity".
ReplyDeleteMost of the people in these comments don't understand how amazing the /co/ fanbase used to be.
ReplyDeleteDon't judge all of 4chan from your limited knowledge of /b/.
As if 4chan is somehow a necessary place of status on the internet.
ReplyDeleteI've been there once. There really isn't anything of value to that site, and the people here (both trolls and some bronies) that embrace 4chan with this massive amount of pride, are sadly mistaken.
Aaaand nothing was lost or gained...
ReplyDeletew00t! I never go on 4chan myself, but we finally aren't as prosecuted there!
ReplyDeleteUnless he's deceiving us...
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteGuess it's finally time to go back home! :D
ReplyDeleteFelt like it's been forever since i've been to 4chan.
If anybody plans on going there i suggest several things
ReplyDelete1) Mind the Child-Porn(you WILL come across it unfortunately)
2) wear asbestos, and learn to ignore shit
3) They hate you, nothing personal but they hate you completely.
Reasons why are as follows
your too tall
too short
too average
too special
too hairy
not hairy enough
a boy
a girl
a trap
too old
too young
you like different things
you like all the same things
your white
your black
your Hispanic
your Asian
you post too many ponies
you don't post enough ponies
you post ponies
you don't post any ponies
your post on their site
you post on other sites
your breath
you exist
if you manage to not fill out any of those checks then you should be fine though.
4CHAN MAKING A PONY BOARD IS LITERALLY THE WORST THING EVER TO HAPPEN IN THE PAST 200 YEARS OF HUMAN HISTORY. THERE IS NO HYPERBOLE IN THIS POST. MOOT IS LITERALLY SATAN. I AM BOTH OFFENDED AND SHOCKED, AND WILL BE WRITING A LETTER TO MY SENATOR. I AM BOTH DISGUSTED AND TERRIFIED BY 4CHAN, AND YOU SHOULD FEEL ASHAMED OF YOURSELF IF YOU'RE NOT TOO. THERE IS NO HYPERBOLE OR SARCASM IN THIS POST. THIS IS A 100% REASONABLE REACTION.
ReplyDeleteSo is this really a troll?
ReplyDeleteThe question is moot.
Hmm, I wasn't quite aware of previous mass-bannings to bronies on other boards there. Between that and the furry thing from before, I'm even more convinced that it's a trap of some kind.
ReplyDeleteAnd even if by some far off chance it isn't, this whole "trying to take credit, so I care to apologize now" thing makes the gesture deceptive and self-serving rather than sincere and generous.
Bronies who came from there can go back if they want to I suppose, but I'm not surprised that some of you old timers are keeping their distance and the new bronies who came long after are devoid of interest or full of caution. Or that, more importantly, trying to keep 4chan a separate part of the fandom and not its "core".
Personally I got into FIM through other sources, none that were related to 4chan. Hell, when I first saw folks spamming image macros of it in IRC and whatnot, I assumed it was a "4chan meme thing" and *ignored* it because I'm not a channer. Wasn't until I started seeing other pony stuff popping up on other sites that I started to realize there was something more to it.
If I were to be absolutely technical, I would have to give props to Newgrounds of all places, specifically "Story of the Blanks" for making me finally dive in and start researching why this was so popular. But that would still be misaimed credit, because the fanbase and its content merely introduces one to the show, it's the actual series that will determine if you stay.
4chan can have its part in history, but that doesn't mean I have to associate with it.
@Dyxid
ReplyDeleteI gotta agree with you on that. I came across MLP through random encounters with Rainbow Dash on several forums I happen to frequent, none of which has anything to do with 4chan. After which, I took it upon myself to research and watch the show to figure out why she was everywhere. Again, an action that has nothing to do with 4chan.
It's cool and all that 4chan was the birthplace of the brony fandom, and kinda pointless when they kicked them out, but that doesn't mean a damn thing that they gotta go back, or even care for that matter. Bronies have stood on their own without 4chan quite nicely.
That's nice.
ReplyDeleteStill stickin' to PonyChan. Sorry, Moot, this has happened over one year too late. PonyChan already has a gigantic influx of posts, activity, and content, and it has grown so large it doesn't even need 4Chan anymore to garner attention.
You wanted us separated from 4Chan. Fine. You got it. We separated, and created our own image board, just as the hivemind asked. And now that the separation has grown into "one of the largest subcultures" on the Internet, you suddenly want us to come back?
Oh, no no no no no. We're doing just fine on our own, and realized afterwards just how wrong the antagonistic populace of 4Chan were going about things. The last thing we need is a proverbial "bedroom back in our broken home" opened up for us to move in to, and become a less-centralized local target for you and your incessant trolls 4Chan keeps throwing at us.
Too late.
We moved out. Just like you wanted.
And we're doing well. Just like you feared.
Deal with it.
And yet @archiveit What Love and Tolerance have you see in this fandom now and days?
ReplyDeleteComplaints about canon killing fanon
complaints about background characters getting canon names that are not what fans wanted.
complaints about the live action shows which were done for the children.
complaints about older generations
complaints about any humanized versions of the
ponies that aren't a certain color. Which leads to racial arguments on the boorus.
There has been barely any "Love and Tolerate" since pre season 2
@Tenaris I have to disagree with you there. Sure, there have been little disputes here and there, but the sites I frequent like this one have usually shown that we fans have been able to forget about such arguments pretty quickly. That's one of the biggest reasons I even participate in the fandom.
ReplyDeleteWell, moot has said it's not a trap on multiple occasions... By that logic I'll be sure to stay off until well after April Fools day.
ReplyDeleteIn other news the community there has actually stabilized pretty well. I wouldn't exactly call it ponychan yet, but it's not all that bad.
@Daniel G They may happen to forget but when it comes down the line the same arguments and disputes happen almost all the time over the same reasons.
ReplyDeleteI guess I'm a part of the 99% of people that don't give a buck about 4chan so this doesn't really matter to me.
ReplyDeleteOk i know that taking out the bronies from 4chan was bad, but was it so bad that we all like "WHAT HELL NO DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOU DID TO US?" what did they do besides spam you guys to death. Besides if it even was a TRAP we could still retreat back to ponychan LOVE AND TOLERATE :D btw i only went to 4chan like once and this was before the war so yeah
ReplyDeleteThe sheer ignorance of MLP fans these days really doesn't surprise me. It's been a year since the extremist retards took over the fanbase and tarnished the word brony forever and a year since I bothered to associate myself with the fanbase. 4chan is the reason ponychan took off and by proxy the reason you idiots are here today, anyone who was around at the time and knew what was going on will agree.
ReplyDeleteIt's downright saddening that I wish for /mlp/ to end up as /fur/ did but that's what the masses have wrought.
Addressing the Bronies as “one of the largest subcultures in 4chan’s history“ is way ‘out of bounds’; while I do acknowledge that 4chan helped start the Brony movement, I’m confident that many (if not almost all) Bronies can clearly see that their movement (and culture) has undoubtedly outgrown 4chan, and has thus gone from a “subculture” to a fully established culture/movement in its own right.
ReplyDeleteBesides, I don’t think 4chan is a good place for Bronies anyway (even if the board helped to start the movement): With 4chan known for incubating (and seemingly continuing to encourage) really irritating (if not ‘too discussing for inappropriate occasion‘) ‘internet memes’ such as “rage comics” and rather pointless (though not irritating) ones such as “Rickrolling” (although I’m sure the artist of the song is very happy), as well as serious and pointless Computer Hacking (the bad kind, not the good kind) and Cyber-Bullying; I think that the entire Brony movement would be better off among places (boards, blogs, etc.) all their own (such as “Ponychan”). Bronies don’t need 4chan; and I’m very happy to see that such technical talent for making alternative sites such as “Ponychan” exists in the movement.
Overall, I think that the Brony movement is better and way more responsible and mature than 4chan and almost anything the board helps to churn and promote, any day (no offense intended of course).
@NightStarX
ReplyDeleteYESSIREE!
THIS IS the comment I have been wanting to see for quite a while now!
And I have never signed into or posted anything on 4chan. So I have not developed
But I know enough that -chan(nel) imageboards are a really outdated and inefficient means of hanging out online, because regular forums are so much easier to navigate. You can post images on regular forums anyway, so those are also "image_boards"
imageboards like 4chan only "give birth" to hip new phrases and whatnot occasionally; and other places do their part. Often times it is really just a self-fulfilling prophecy of sorts, that people will assume that -chans are inherently pioneering "meme" machines.
One example of this is when some random nobody decide that 4chan should give a name to the pose that Toon Link is making here http://burgertime.deviantart.com/journal/excited-toon-link-avatars-231286723
and therefore, it was arbitrarily named "fsjal" even though it technically could have just been called some common word such as "poop" or something.
Yeah, the first uses of Brony on 4chan actually was presented as /b/rony, meaning /b/ro and pony, even though actual interest in the show among 4channers (as in, not among people in general) was initially reserved to /co/.
Yeah, -chan imageboards are inherently useless now.
I have tried to find a single reasonably active English-language imageboard besides 4chan. A basic web search or "imageboard". You cannot find them, because they are a crappy format that is obsolete and 4chan just rides on their reputation when the same type of "Internet magic" exists almost everywhere online. Anywhere where there are people commenting.
