Wow, that was great.
ReplyDeleteDear Princess Celestia,
ReplyDeleteStar Wars rules, Star Trek drools!
That is the most I've laughed at an episode all season.
ReplyDeleteWow, that was an really awesome episode! :D
ReplyDeleteThis was an amazing episode. I do hope Season 2 will bring more.
ReplyDeleteI accidentally 50 fangasms in the opening alone, is that dangerous?
ReplyDeleteAlso, the end made me tear up.
THAT WAS AWESOME, especially Fluttershy
ReplyDelete"That big meanie!!" and then she catches up to Rainbow Dash
It's official. Discord is my favorite villain and Pinkie Pie is the best pony.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, and figures Dash would need to be held down by four ponies to be turned back. That's one tough girl.
ReplyDeleteOMC THAT WAS FUCKING AWESOME OMFC YES!!!!
ReplyDeleteAwesome episode is awesome
ReplyDeleteNo Luna at the celebration of the defeat of Discord? Wtf :(
ReplyDeleteSpoiler* I wanted Discord to stay </3 Now who will make chocolate rain for us.
ReplyDeleteAlso now we have Starwars ponies.
Fluttershy had all the best lines, mostly as Flutterbitch but still.
ReplyDeleteThat big dumb meanie, i still cant get over Fluttershy calling someone dumb.
X'D Yesyesyes! <3 Awwww Flutter was so awesome in this episode! And Rarity! You missed the chance to say "Dumb Rock!" again!
ReplyDeleteand now i can die.... wait there's a whole SEASON more !?!?!?!
ReplyDeleteAwesome episode! Really love Flutterbitch!
ReplyDeleteI hope they bring Discord back.
ReplyDeleteepic ending there! XD
ReplyDeleteI miss Discord already,
ReplyDeleteStarwars and Star trek references in the same episode
ReplyDeleteMind = Blown
Seriously, this shows what the writers watched when they were growing up.
Not sure if I liked the ending. Seemed like Discord DGAF. Also, spike is the new rainbow dash from now on.
ReplyDeleteCould I restrain you against your will, if that's alright with you?
ReplyDeleteWhoopiee!!
ReplyDeleteWeell, trollestia wasn't that bad after all...
Oh man, absolutely hilarious!
ReplyDeleteFlutterbitch was the best, and dat star wars ending! Even the music was similar!
I am a little saddened that Discord got turned back to stone, but it wouldn't really have closure if he escaped. Though it was kinda lame how he completely underestimated the Elements like that. And what the heck was Luna doing? Just chillin' in her room? I wonder if they'll just explain it all away by making her nocturnal.
Cannot wait to watch it again in high def.
Oh, man, that was FANTASTIC. I actually had tears in my eyes when Twilight cast the memory spell on Applejack.
ReplyDeleteI came.
ReplyDeleteThat was incredible. If every other episode is this good, it'll be better than first season.
ReplyDeleteNO LUNA! WHY?
ReplyDeleteMY LITTLE STAR WARS :D
ReplyDeleteBeautiful.
ReplyDeletePinkie is better than ever. However, we all have to remember that this is not going to be like normal episodes. We still have to see what a regular episode is going to be like before we can say the series is going to be epic. Unfortunately, we have to wait at the very least 2 weeks.
I really liked that Star Wars style ending. XD
ReplyDeleteMade my morning! :D
That was much more the season 1 finale rather than the season 2 pilot. Great episode, very fun and very toutching. Wasn't really expecting Luna, even though I know many people were. But since these were basically season 1 episodes, Luna couldn't have appeared since they were never to use Luna again for season 1.
ReplyDeleteI have been thinking of something else though. We still have no information AT ALL on the "real" season 2. We haven't even seen a single picture of it. So there's a sliiiight possibility of it not being as good as we'd like to hope. Let's just hope I'm wrong and that episode 3 will air soon.
I guess we can assume that being on the moon so long made Luna so bored, she now sleeps for months, even years at a time? A thousand years, after all..
ReplyDeleteI squee'd like a little girl when they even did the Star Wars wipe! Also, poor Chewba---er...I mean...SPIKE didn't get a medal :(
ReplyDeleteNow I'm off to hibernate for two weeks!
YOU. BIG. MEANIE.
ReplyDeleteI think FLuttershy said that.
I loved Big Macindog.
ReplyDeleteOkay, I'm gonna be honest: that felt just a little too straightforward. I mean, once Twilight is back to normal thanks to Celestia sending her letters back, everything just kind of snowballs. Twilight restores all her friends in about five minutes, and then Discord is accordingly steamrolled. Even the fight against Nightmare Moon had more tension than that. This was just...coasting to victory. I guess they could only do so much with the time given, but still...there couldn't have been even ONE little twist? One bump in the road to victory? Things seemed so dire at the end of the first episode, but they were all resolved too quickly. Again, a product of time constraints, I GUESS...
ReplyDeleteAnyone else feel this way?
I think the biggest let down is how the CMC were only used as a plot device for Discord to escape
ReplyDeleteSO AWESOME! JUST EVERYTHING WAS AMAZING. Never saw the elements being in the book about the elements, which makes sense of the riddle. Flutterbitch and everything Grumpy Pie said was gold, and the continuity. And Everything Twilight did and said just had me grinning like an idiot. AND THE STAR WARS REFERENCE! XD BUT NO LUNA! UGH, it pains my soul. XD
ReplyDeleteThey have managed to outdo themselves 100 times over from the last episode, in which they had outdone themselves 100 times over from the last season. The rest of Season 2 is going to be amazing.

ReplyDeleteExporting the Episode to Youtube as we speak.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to say but I didn't like it.
ReplyDeleteI mean there's a ton of moments that are going to make good short youtube clips but as a whole it didn't really do anything for me.
I was hoping for a Luna cameo at the end but didn't even get that.
Was I the only one who got a little teary-eyed when Twilight read her letters? Please tell me I wasn't alone...
ReplyDeleteNow requesting "Kung Fu Rarity".
ReplyDelete@Lula
ReplyDeleteHoly crap it's Lula! What the Christ is he talking about?
I will miss discord, Also I didn't catch the star wars reference.
ReplyDelete@Brian Johnson
ReplyDeleteHe probably goes back to the need-to-be-rebuilt statue garden and hedge maze? With maybe a guard pony this time..
Lunafags still mad?
ReplyDeleteNo Luna for you!
Star Wars and Star trek references in the same episode, the streams have officially been crossed.
ReplyDeleteMind = Blown
it, eh, the entire season 2 Return of Harmony seemed a tad rushed? but yeah, i guess it's better to be rushed than to be ... overly drawn out. also, primary demo probably liked it better than we periphery so it worked out. hope to see Discord's return at some point in the future, good villain without being 'scary' for the kiddies. mean spirited and selfish is one of the better ways to be villainous without being 'scary.'
ReplyDelete@Anon Pony With A Name I know! Where was Luna in all this?! D:
ReplyDeletei woke up at 6:30, just for ponies! And boy did i run to the computer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9pjHVUMGscg
ReplyDeleteGET A PONY COMMENT TRENDING AS THE TOP COMMENT
@quackey
ReplyDeleteShe said "That big dumb meanie"
Twilight confirmed for Luke Skywalker of Equestria
ReplyDeleteWhere was Luna...
ReplyDeleteVery funny episode though. Perhaps the funniest.
it felt too rushed. this should've been a movie.
ReplyDeleteUnless they're saving an uber-villian for the movie.
A Star Wars medal ceremony? Well played, Trollestia, well played.
ReplyDeleteI'm also glad Rainbow Dash tackled Applejack when she woke up. Yay for more Appledash implications!
ReplyDeleteIF RETURN OF HARMONY WAS A MOVIE
ReplyDeleteIT WOULD BE THE BEST MOVIE
So many people's fics that had the whole 'Saving equestria was kept under wraps' thing tot. got refuted at the end there. How many fics will there be of them dealin' with paparazzi? xD
ReplyDeleteLet's see...
ReplyDeleteTwilight and Big Mac shippers are on the rise.
Calling Rainbow Dash loves bondage fan fictions.
I think the ending was entirely cheesy. (Too much Sailor Moon)
Applejack is still a silly pony.
Fluttershy is still evil.
Dumb rock part deuce and Rarity knows hoof to hoof combat.
Celestia pulls another batman gambit.
The ending is basically Star Wars heroes walking down the isles.
Pinkie's last minute rain drinking for the sake of stalling Discords petrification.
Also Derpy spotted in the throne room near the end.
All in all just as much as I was expecting.
Also poor Spike is now Rainbow Dash and getting all the fillies for himself.
In the end it was Celestia who saved the day, using Twilights own friendship lessons... damn Celestia planned for the occaison Discord would free himself.
Chess Master Celestia will never lose to Luna at this rate.
over 18 hours of ponies, on a live stream. I am now going to sleep. Can't wait for the next episode though!
ReplyDelete@John
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid I was to busy being pissed with Celestia for fucking around with Spike like that.
Ok first 10 minutes were funny. But come on...
ReplyDeleteI don't want to complain too much, but magic memory spell? That was Deus ex machina at its worst. And Discord got too stupid for my taste. I understand “pride before fall” but this was real idiot ball. I tried to keep my expectation on reasonable level, but was hoping for resolution with more talking and interactions and less magic.
Also - no Luna, but I'm somehow not surprised by that. That be said, we probably are going back to slice of life style in next episode. And I think it is for the best
That was so awesome watching it again
ReplyDeleteThat was fucking great! The animation was some of the best out of the entire series so far.
ReplyDeleteHopefully the episode break isn't that long.
@JC
ReplyDeleteI think the "bump in the road" was Twilight nearly giving up. The real challenge was re-forming the Friendship. Discord was just there to instigate the plot.
I want Discord to come back! Weaker than before of course, but still active!
All in all though, a truly epic episode, and a more appropriate season closer than Best Night Ever. Ah well.
Big Macintosh LICKED Twilight! TwiMac is CANON!
ReplyDeleteI was sad that Luna was not at least standing at Celestia's side. I don't care if they only give Luna a single dedicated Luna episode, I want to see Luna take royalty roles in the background and be at Celestia's side as sisters again. A year of solitude is NOT cool, and for a pony that was banished for a millennium, in a world where the greatest power known is driven by friendship, and where lack of friendship drove Luna into the state of Nightmare Moon, I would think that it would be PRUDENT to make sure Luna has friends, NAOW!!!
That was Awesome!
ReplyDeleteSome great Deceptive Applejack and Cruel Fluttershy moments... The (however brief) introduction of Betraying Rainbow Dash... DisQord, amazing as always... and most interestingly, Selfish Rarity gave a name and a gender to her rock/diamond. Now at least one of the rather nonsensical/disturbing ships... makes sense.
ReplyDeleteAlso, what is with the dancing buffalo?
It was AWESOME! Loved the Star Wars-like ending..
ReplyDeletedefinately watch it at lest twice a day until ep 3 airs... (Maybe it have been discussed a few times now but still noone knows when will episode 3 air?)
@Bill Door Can you blame her for trying her hardest to keep her trollin' status? :P
ReplyDeleteIt was soooo good!
ReplyDeleteI dont even know what to say.. It was so good!
ReplyDelete@Minalkra
ReplyDeleteYou honestly believe that the core demo could like the show more than we do? Doubtful.
Ha! Oh, that was good. I wish that Discord had one more trick up his sleeve, but apparently he didn't think Twilight had it in her to come back. You have to hand it to Celestia... She's a pretty master chess player, stockpiling those friendship reports. I do love how they manage to make friendship truly magic and now prove that Twilight's "reports" weren't just pointless excuses to let her stay in Ponyville.
ReplyDeleteLoved Spike's role throughout, as well as Flutterbitch. And Rarity's Kung-Fu, and ride along with Pinkie. Now let's never speak of Tom again.
I notice we never saw the one preview image scene show up, with the main six all bowing to Celestia in the throne room with Spike on Twilight's back. I wonder when that happens.
@JC
ReplyDeleteI'm gonna have to agree with you there. I didn't really feel like this episode had anything... unexpected in it, and that's kind of a shame. Also it's a bummer to see that the CMC intro of episode 1 was kind of a throwaway thing. :s
Still a pretty good episode, though. Twilight has some awesome magic to her name, doesn't she? XD And Twilight as she began to lose her element was hilarious.
But yeah, my final consensus: good duo of episodes, but it was definitely hurt by time constraints. Also I hope Discord shows up again later, somehow, because he is amazing. XP
DAT STAR WARS REFERENCE
ReplyDeleteThat was a hugely amazing episode. So many gags and funny moments that I was laughing far too hard. Though I did get worried when Twilight got broken, but then Celestia pulled off a Gambit of sorts with the letters she made Twilight write!
For a show that is mainly slice-of-life, it has revealed a rather large story arc that none of us realised until this episode aired. Very clever.
I really enjoyed this episode, I think this two parter will replayed over and over again while I wait for Episode 3 (Gabe, stay away - its not the episode you think it is, and I won't be happy if the show gets delayed because it got lost in your fat rolls).
That was awesome -w-
ReplyDeleteFluttershy is no longer mean *yay*
This is my new favorite episode.
ReplyDelete@Fawfulcopter One word...chaos.
ReplyDeleteI'm not gonna lie here. I'm actually a bit disappointed.
ReplyDeleteThis is something that would have made a GREAT three-parter. It really needed more time to flesh everything out. But packed into two episodes, it was incredibly rushed, and the resolution is VERY anticlimactic.
The episode starts OFF great, but the latter half gets very rushed. Twilight practically waves her horn and they're back to normal, what the heck's up with that? I know it wasn't the staff -being lazy, but it makes the resolution -feel- lazy (Heck, Pinkie's is even done OFFSCREEN). And then Discord just sits there and lets them zap him, then Star Wars ending (which was pretty cool), and then that's it.
Discord was really done a disservice as well. Again, first half of this episode, he does VERY well, but the latter half he just sits on his ass, and doesn't even get any decent lines. It really is a disappointing end to an otherwise VERY well-done antagonist.
Don't get me wrong, it's not a -bad- episode. The gags are great, and there's a lot of great moments, but honestly the resolution make the whole Discord thing almost feel pointless. It's just a letdown.
AND WHERE THE HELL IS LUNA?
A whole Star Wars ending scene, and you can't even just put her there right at the end? what, are you planning to just use her for ONE episode, or something?
Too rushed. The whole plot is excellent in its form, nothing wrong with it, but 22 minutes means that they had to rush this way too fast. No real build-up to anything, just rushing scene after scene and plot key after plot key until its finally over. As someone said here, this really would be more suitable material for a feature-length film than a episode in the show. *hinthint Hasbro*
ReplyDeleteNo Luna whatsoever was disappointing, but introducing her here in the nick of chaos might not be the best alternative. Best save that for a episode where the attention can be focused on her.
A bit rushed, but no more rushed than the Nightmare Moon 2-parter was.
ReplyDeleteFlutterbitch was awesome.
My only complaint: Where the hell was Luna at the end?!? Celestia made such a big deal about her and Luna being the ones who stopped Discord, I thought Luna would at least show up beside Celestia at the end.
But, that aside, this episode was awesome.
That... sort of sucked.
ReplyDeleteI don't mean to be a downer. It was a fun episode and had a lot of great jokes, especially with Twilight, Rarity, and Fluttershy. Spike was surprisingly awesome this time too.
But... well, that was a really abrupt ending. Is that really all we get of Discord? They could have milked this concept out the entire season but instead fixed it with a magic hand-wave mostly off screen? The major villain literally just stands there and lets the heroes hit him with the giant weapon that he's already been defeated by once before?
The Star Wars ending was cute, but I kept hoping there would be some moment where it would be revealed the whole thing was a sham and Discord had simply faked his defeat. Or... well, anything else. This just really seems like a huge waste of a solid plot concept and a great voice actor.
Guys guys, they had discord fall like every other villain in a children cartoon, underestimating the good guys after you separated them, the minute he got Twilight to become discorded he thought he won, notice he went "Yes" when she said she doesnt live in ponyvile anymore
ReplyDeleteOh WOW. My expectations were just taken and blown to the moon. The first part paled in comparison. That episode wasn't just good, it was better than ANY episode so far! Also, the ending was so, so Star Wars. XD
ReplyDeleteFor you people thinking it was rushed: maybe you need to watch it again. I thought the pacing was fantastic, and things ususally seem rushed if you're anticipating them for a while. Not that I didn't just as much, but I wasn't speculating about what would actually happen in the episode too much.
Just....WOWZERS. I need to watch it again, and again.....and again. SO much awesome in that episode!!
@80and56
ReplyDeleteKung Fuity!
Just finished watching the episode, and so many tears of awesome were shed. Really, it was GLORIOUS!
The ending was a bit anti-climatic though. Makes me kinda wish this was a movie or maybe a 3 parter. :/
Oh well, it was still amazing!
Trollphoe
ReplyDeleteThe wait for the rest of season 2 is too damn high, or um long.
ReplyDeletewhy was derpy without her derpy eyes?
ReplyDelete92% UPLOADED YEAH~! C'mon, YouTube... process faster! 720p PONIES SOON!
ReplyDeleteSo I was like, BEST EPISODE EVER!
ReplyDeleteThen after the mane five catch Rainbow Dash, they Deus ex machina Discord, and I retract my best episode ever statement.
Oh and Spike is the new Rainbow Dash.
Ok. This was MUCH better than the first part. After having a week to reflect on it, I can safely say that the issues with last week's show were caused by trying to cram what needed to be two episodes into one. Just saying, I think I would have gladly traded Over a Barrel for an extended build up to Discord's release, and a lot less of the Brick to the Face characterization they had to use to reintroduce the characters in the first few minutes.
ReplyDeleteNice use of elements from the previous season in a way that I wasn't expecting, and I can fit my fannon into what happened easily enough. (Discord was able to mind control the ponies BECAUSE they had already failed their elements in the past. It gave him an opening to affect them that he wouldn't have had otherwise.)
Not fearing for the future of pony any more, which is a relief.
Also, one thing that I noticed last week and was reinforced this week is that Discord seemed to be MUCH happier in the last statue than this one. I'm guessing that either Celestia and Luna managed to force him to accept his fate (not likely from his personality) or they ambushed him and started from the head down so that he didn't have a chance to change his expression.
Nice use of a rainboom effect when imprisoning Discord - I wonder if that's where the legends of it came from?
Also, unless the Mane cast did get immortality from being linked to the elements, Discord is going to be back much sooner than the last time around, since the stoning only lasts as long as the elements are bound to their current users. Unless it's a new user taking the element up that breaks the spell, rather than the old user no longer being bound to it, which is possible, I suppose.

ReplyDeleteNice. I thought both episodes were a bit rushed, but maybe it's because I wanted more? I think NMM's little saga also went quick, ah well, it's not an epic-adventure-continuous-plot kind of series anyway.
ReplyDeleteLove pony.
At least now if anypony says anything about the words "Rebel Alliance" in my story I can point out at canon references to Star Wars.
@LcplBronyUSMC
ReplyDeleteTrue, true. She was so close to being overthrown. Curse you Celestia!
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteLet's just wait until the Cutie Mark Crusaders come back to the castle so that Discord will be released again
ReplyDeleteFor turning twilight sparkle gray, Discord deserves nothing less than having his statue sent to the moon, crushed into dust and then have his stone ashes thrown into space to get yelled at by Wheatley until they eventually get burned out of existence by the sun. Bastard.
ReplyDelete@JC
ReplyDeleteYep! But for me they more than made up for it with the awesome first twenty minutes or so.
Also, Discord didn't move because he had no reason to believe the elements worked.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vO3RvV5T-9M -- single part episode here it is being proccessed but will be up sooon in standard def
ReplyDeleteHuh, did my comment not appear here...?
ReplyDeleteToo rushed. The whole plot is excellent in its form, nothing wrong with it, but 22 minutes means that they had to rush this way too fast. No real build-up to anything, just rushing scene after scene and plot key after plot key until its finally over. No Luna whatsoever was disappointing, but introducing her here in the nick of chaos might not be the best alternative. Best save that for a episode where the attention can be focused on her.
Also, Discord is no more, which is disappointing. He really was one of the best characters in the show.[/spoiler
Granted, the ending was a little rushed, but I had a feeling such would be the case. The focus of the plot for this episode was going to be the mane six rediscovering their friendship all along, and defeating Discord is essentially of secondary focus in the plot.
ReplyDeleteI also had a feeling they would just turn Discord back into stone. They couldn't kill him, since this is a show for little girls, and letting him escape wouldn't make any sense (he's the embodiment of CHAOS for crying out loud), and just about the only other option possible would be to turn him nice, which would earn quite a bit of hatred from this crowd. :P
That was a great episode!
ReplyDeleteI really wanted to punch Fluttershy. Just saying.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDelete@Motor_Mane
ReplyDeleteEpisode not up yet, but you already got likes :D Including mine :D
This ep is making me hate fluttershy
ReplyDelete@Neon Noble
ReplyDeleteIf you did you have no idea the horrors i would reek on you.
Also with Flutterbitch and all the one liners he dropped this episode, can we all agree Fluttershy is best pony.
*random* Has anyone noticed that really Discord is one of the better villains ever? He managed to find and steal the weapons that could defeat him and hide them away, managed to rob the heros of their power, actually succeeded in his master plan, and had nearly absolutely defeated them. For a chaos crazed clown craving callous cleaving of comrades, Discord definitely does a deviously deluxe deed.
ReplyDeleteThis past week was torture for me.
ReplyDeleteMy internal harmony has been restored now ^_^

ReplyDeleteWhere was Luna?
ReplyDeleteOh I'm so happy now that-
ReplyDeleteWait, I just remembered: 2 week hiatus.
... I believe I shall go pig out on some ice-cream and cry now.
Best episode ever.
ReplyDeleteSo Fluttershy can fly as fast as Rainbow Dash when she has the motive to do so. Making Fluttershy more awesome and taking Dash down a peg all in the same scene. Great!
ReplyDeletei think that was the issue. they COULD have had Discord extend as a major plot-esque villain over the course of the season but Hasbro wanted slice-of-life. i'm happy we get the magic-girl season opener instead of just another episode for it. also, yeah it was rushed but i'm sticking with the 'good' that i gave it. with the unfortunate time constraints they work under, the writers and animators did a smashing job getting everything through without too much trouble. and once you saw the deus ex machina memory spell in action once, why see it multiple times?
ReplyDeletecan't wait for fic writers to extend that short memory jog into Twilight fighting the inner demons of her friends.
@John
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking much lulz could have been had if the elements had severely depowered Discord, and left him more as an annoying antagonist that an OMG the world is going to end if we don't do something about this guy.
I know a lot of Ponies complained about how "Part 1" felt rushed, but THIS seemed more like the episode that could've stood to take its time a little more to me. Goodness knows, whatever happened with Fluttershy before Twilight memory-zapped her seems to have been quite crazy. X3 Nonetheless, I was bracing myself for disappointment given just how high "Part 1" had raised the bar, and in the end I walked away more or less completely satisfied. I would've preferred less time chasing down Rainbow Dash and more time confronting Discord, mind, and I was a little sad we didn't get Luna after all (despite having the perfect opportunity; after all, we only have Spike's word that it was Celestia sending those letters, but who better to remind Twilight of the power of Friendship than the Pony that power saved?). Likewise, the sudden ending took me a bit off guard. All told, though, none of these are complaints which really interfere with the episode's central strengths.
ReplyDeleteFor starters, I loved Twilight's arc in this. Being the only Pony who Discord doesn't directly brainwash adds an extra degree of sadness as she loses faith in her friends and the Elements, but the way in which she is reminded of what's really important is a stroke of genius (which also goes to show how these episodes were originally meant to be the Season 1 finale, too), and it's truly heartwarming to get to see her revisit the very lessons she herself wrote about all throughout Season 1. Likewise, I very much appreciated Applejack getting her own memory montage (she's my favorite Pony ^w^), and although it moves by a bit quickly, the whole sequence of Twilight gradually recovering her friends worked very well (Rarity's "We shall never speak of this again" was a personal highlight X3). The chase with Dash was likewise very well done, exciting and giving each of the girls their own little moment (Fluttershy's polite request to Dash was hilarious), and again I very much liked Dash's panicked reaction upon awakening.
While I do wish we'd gotten a bit more of Discord this time around, what we did get was quite satisfying. The way he taunts the girls' powerlessness, his sheer satisfaction at defeating Twilight (I was nervous he was going to get bored with winning and lead to his own defeat, and was very thankful when that proved not to be the case)...brief though it is, his final fight with our girls is also very well-realized. Lots of cool moments like Discord tugging at the Elements with his powers, great visualizations like the patch of normal grass created in the wake of Twilight's spell, and of course an excellent return of our old pal the Rainbow of Light.
I imagine a few Ponies are going to be disappointed with this as a resolution; it keeps things grounded in the show's more personal adventure rather than take the step forward into full-on Epic I imagine some of us were expecting, but I prefer to judge this episode for what it is rather than what it isn't, and for what it is, I'd say it's pretty great. :)
And now to wait for Season 2 to start, for real.
ReplyDeleteGreat episode anyways! It does feel more like a finalle for Season 1 than a starter for Season 2, though.
Maybe that's what Daniel Ingram meant when he said that Season 2 had 24+2 episodes. The fact that those 2 extra episodes were planned for Season 1, not 2.
@namelesspony
ReplyDeleteDont forget she was pulling the balloon, but also Dash wasnt her real self and thus probably and little less fast, as well as being weighed down by rarity and pinkie, who knows how much Pinkie weighs with all she eats.
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUU I missed the streaming, UPLOAD NAAAAAAAAAAAW
ReplyDeleteMy F5 button is screaming bloody murder at this point.
ReplyDeleteGuess I'll wait for YouTube. It'll take a while since I'm in the UK.
ReplyDeleteMinecraft should come in hand for a distraction.
@namelesspony No, remember Dash was being slowed down by carrying two other ponies who were dead weight. Otherwise Fluttershy, bless her adorable little heart, would never be able to catch Dash.
ReplyDelete@Sssonic
ReplyDeleteThis
Discords cockiness makes me think (or at very least hope) that this will not be the last we see of him.
ReplyDelete@Sunspark That's what I was hoping for too. Then he could pop up every now and then to mess with ponies/possibly help out.
ReplyDelete@Sunspark
ReplyDeleteMeh, I'd rather have bad-ass Discord turned into stone than a none-bad-ass Discord. It's a much more fitting ending. :P
@LcplBronyUSMC
ReplyDeleteYeah, but Fluttershy was pulling a fucking aerostatic balloon!
Hey everypony, a new episode has been uploaded to YouTube!
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=omhSnagjOL0
awww... I truly enjoyed discord for his sense of humor. Weird. JUST LIKE MINE.
ReplyDelete@LcplBronyUSMC
ReplyDeleteAnd Fluttershy was pulling the balloon plus two other ponies yet still could do it.
So?
@NikeXTC
ReplyDeleteThe balloon wasnt dragging down like Rarity and Pinkie
Loved it.
ReplyDelete@NikeXTC
ReplyDeleteWith 2 more ponies!
FlutterShy for president!
Also, pie rain...yesyesyesyses.
Flutterbitch is my new favorite pony.
ReplyDelete@JC
ReplyDeleteI certainly did.
smiled though the whole thing, epic ending,
ReplyDeletestill no luna though...
I just realized something aside from spamming mail all Celestia did was busy herself making that damn Colored Glass Mural!
ReplyDeleteI LIEK IT.
ReplyDeleteBut why Discord loses? WHY EVERY TIME IN A CARTOON THE VILLAINS LOSE?
I WANT MORE DISCORD
HE SHOULD HAVE WINNED
ALSO NO LUNA
WHY
NO LUNA
DISCORD LOSES
WHY
WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
WRYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
>mfw i remembered the incoming two week hiatus
ReplyDeletewell time to run through the 28 episodes until then!
oh my god, that was amazing.
ReplyDeletethat's going to one heck of a hard episode to beat.
how long now before sompony places the end theme to starwars at the end to this ep
ReplyDeleteSeems like some people set their hopes much too high. I for one think this was one of the greatest episodes ever.
ReplyDeleteThat was hilarious! Glad I got up early just for this.
ReplyDeleteRainbow Spike is best pony.
ReplyDeleteOkay, I want to say something to everyone who keeps saying "No Luna?? D:< Not even one appearance in the episode!! LUNA SHOULD'VE BEEN IN HERE ASDF- "
ReplyDelete....Okay. Really?? From what I've heard, Luna was going to appear again IN SEASON 2. But they never said which EPISODE she'd be in. Sooo..yeah..don't keep waiting for her, I'm sure when more of season 2 unfolds, she'll appear somewhere.
Other than that, not a bad episode. c: I thought it'd be more epic, but..it still came out good overall.
GET BACK! It's my book and I'M GONNA READ IT!!!
ReplyDelete@Greenf0x
ReplyDeleteDon't get me wrong; I love Fluttershy to pieces. She was just such a -JERK- in this episode that I wanted to hit her. :P
@Greenf0x
ReplyDeletePhysics anyone?
Besides the fact that the fabric of the balloon is most probably heavier than two ponies. Oh wait, there were also two ponies in the balloon.
You lose.
WHY IS THERE NO YOUTUBE STREAM!?!?!?!
ReplyDeleteMy live stream was glitchy so I watched it twice for bits I missed. Subtle things like the landing of Twilight's tear I missed, which made me weep second time round ^^"
ReplyDelete@RooI give it two days at the most. :D
ReplyDeleteI though Discord drinks glass and that's a pretty interesting trick considering he filled it from top to bottom. Lets not forget the milk was explosive when he tossed it away.
ReplyDeletePinkie has practically ingested napalm... and lived.
Plus there were a few other nuances people are not talking about, like dancing Granny smith and Applejack uneating the apple.
Should have been a movie, but still EPIC.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=omhSnagjOL0 YOUTUBE LINK GUYS!
ReplyDeleteTo everypony out there making the "no Luna?" comments...
ReplyDeleteYou have to remember, these episodes were originally part of S1, where Luna was written off as an unimportant secondary character.
It's not suprising that she didn't show up.
She has 24 more episodes to appear before S2 is over... She's gonna pop up eventually.
"What's soaking wet and clueless?"
ReplyDelete"YOUR FACE! GOD DAMMIT!"

i need my download
ReplyDeleteThis episode is a classic, IMO.
ReplyDeleteLoved all the references, and Flutterbitch was just hilarious. As was Tom.
If all the episodes are this great, we're in for a GREAT season.
@dwarfyz
ReplyDeleteAlso, i didn't really love the episode. Im okay with it, it feel too rushed, and the only "Back to normal" transformations that are good are Rainbow's and Applejack's, the transformations should have taken more time, and the fight with Discord should have been like an videogame's final boss fight. It felt like it should have been a three-parter, but whatever.
It'd be awesome to see this entire plot expanded into a 90 minute movie.
ReplyDeleteHere is something to blow your guys minds.
ReplyDeleteI rewatched, and when i got to the part where Twilight asked if they even cared, if applejack is liarjack at this point, shouldn't she have said yes?
SOMEONE WRITE A FIC ON DISCORD. CAUSE I LIKE HIM. (He ain't a pony, so Fluttershy is still best pony).
ReplyDeleteand the episode has already been uploaded to youtube...
ReplyDeleteI'm going to miss Discord. Let's beg Hasbro to bring him back.
ReplyDeleteAlso we had 20% cooler Spike.
Great episode overall. I hope the rest of Season 2 is just as good.
Oh mai gosh, that was the most epic thing EVAR. I don't know about anyone else who said so, but I didn't feel rushed at all.
ReplyDeleteFunniest episode yet imo
I'm gonna miss Discord :*(

Three Words: Exploding Chocolate Milk!
ReplyDeleteI just want to say that this episode gave me the best 22 minutes of my life...
ReplyDeleteJust like all other episodesXD
PS: I am also mad that there was no Luna.
ReplyDeleteThey may never bring discord back D:
ReplyDeleteThey haven't brought Luna back...
In the Fluttershy/Dash speed debate: Physics mean nothing when chaos has buildings floating upside down.
ReplyDeleteYes, Twilight's heartbroken tear was a wonderful touch... Seeing her turn was a nicely done emotional moment. I also liked that she started with Applejack. I'm not a shipper kind of fan, but I always did feel like those two had a good leader/second in command trust in one another.
@DJ VS-3Luna still is an unimportant secondary character :P
ReplyDeleteLast time with old theme song.
ReplyDeleteLast time with EXECUTIVE PRODUCER: LAUREN FAUST.
Enjoy it, bronies.

They should have petrified all of Discord except his head.
ReplyDeleteThen they could have set him in the throne room to make annoying comments every time there was a Canterlot scene from now on.
Some thoughts
ReplyDelete- The fan created stuff from this episode is going to be awesome.
- Flutterbitch ramped up to ten was nothing short of amazing
- Discord's chaos was entertaining.
- Hell, the whole episode was great. I only have two complaints: No Luna. And no song. I was really hoping for a song. Preferably by Discord. Mainly so I could hear John De Lancie sing. Or perhaps a song involving the Mane Six and Discord. Think about it, a song duel between the Mane Six and Discord. How cool would that be? Or maybe the grey versions could argue in song and Discord could accompany with alternating taunts and encouragements? I dunno. Ah well. Still a spectacular episode. I'm content. Well except for the part where I have to wait a while until the next episode that is.

ReplyDeleteDEFEAT STAR TREK VILLAIN
ReplyDeleteREFERENCE STAR WARS ENDING
@Nittany Tiger Don't get mad, just send the production team an excess of love so that they will feel even more guilty for not putting her in. :D
ReplyDeleteGUYS GUYS GUYS
ReplyDeleteHave you realised that MLP:FiM is probably the first entertainment medium to feature a Hot-Air Balloon chase that doesn't suck?
My Little Pony: A New Hope XD
ReplyDelete@Pocketguns2
ReplyDeleteI'm uploading a 720p version as we speak
It's official...
ReplyDeleteThe ending of The Elements of Harmony makes me tear up, and the ending of The Return of Harmony part 2 makes me tear up.
@NikeXTC
ReplyDeleteMaybe you should actually learn some basic physics before calling other people out on it. The balloon has upward force >= gravity, making it easier to pull.
Rainbow Dash had 2 ponies AND gravity working against her.
It's like pulling someone who's on ice vs. pulling someone up who's dangling from a rope.
@Draconaes
ReplyDeleteAmen, brother! People need to stop complaining and remember that this is a kids show! The episode is awesome and as for Discord's defeat, he's still trapped in stone, which means he could come back at any time they loose connection with their friendship. After all, he is DisQord.
So stop complaining everypony! Discord has grayed all of you!
@Cannonfire40
ReplyDeleteDude your awesome :D
@Mattatatta
ReplyDeleteIt was a pony pulled hot air balloon. That's all the awesome it needed to make it not suck.
@MattatattaWoah...you're right. o.O
ReplyDelete@MetalBeerSolid
ReplyDeleteBasic physics? You might want to brush up as well. Something that large and unaerodynamic is going to drag as much if not more than being pulled down by two ponies. Different cause, same result of having to put more work into moving forward.
@Jeremy
ReplyDeleteIf you want to hear Discord's actor sing, watch this and just pretend Celestia is Spock. xD I was hoping for a song too, something funny and weird, but considering the time constraint I understand. Oh well, at least we have some audio of DisQord singing
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7XZBTv5yrmA
And for all you Star Trek haters, Star Wars and Star Trek are different and equal, there is no comparison!
SPOILERS!
ReplyDeleteGuys, guys! Ok, first.. the episode? Wonderful. I was so worried they were gonna chicken-out and make Discord show regret or something, but instead he cheers and is giddy as hay when Twilight is finally broken. Considering everything he did and was going to do, we've finally got a villian whom, although silly, is truly evil and in it for the laughs he gets and nobody else. It also showed that Discord CANNOT affect the Elements of Harmony directly; all he did was hide them initially, and pull on them while still attached to the ponies at the end.
The way he said to Applejack "I was the one who MADE you a liar" implied that he thought if they challenged him, he'd just make them go gray again, not to mention pretty chilling given the context. And remember his very words to us during his introduction? Things wouldn't be fun if they made sense.. nor would him 'getting serious' be in-character. All in all, it was pretty much the only way it could have been resolved without breaking something established in a prior episode.
It does mean, however, that if he's faced again he's going to be even MORE dangerous since he'll know not to underestimate the mane six, or Twilight in particular. The mocking way he dismissed the 'magic of friendship' in the beginning means he truly didn't see them as any kind of threat whatsoever.
The usage of the friendship reports as being the trigger for Twilight's redemption? Brilliant, I say, since it's literally her own words being used against her, rather then merely a plea from the Princess. When Twilight went gray I wanted to reach through the TV and give her a hug.. so sad..
I wanted actually to see Twilight cure Rarity on screen. The memes would have been priceless.
