As for the episode, I really don't know how this one will go down until we see it, Luna being a big ball of Fanon except for the fact that she's sorry about the whole Nightmare Moon thing when it was all said and done.
This must be the "scary" episode Jason hinted at. I so hope that that synopsis is correct, as this sounds like it would be an amazing episode.

Evil Luna Expalanation - Absolutely love it.That she's actively trying to prove herself changed rather than sitting in the castle and moping and such, like so many fanfics portray her is great. Also it gives an excellent explanation for that one image.

There might be some outcry from the more hardcore fanfic writers and readers from this. Luna's obviously going to be having a lot of fun with this, as shown by yesterday's screenshot, and most everything paints her as an incredibly reclusive and shy pony who's too busy dealing with her personal demons to have any sort of fun.
That's one reason I don't read fan fiction. No fanon getting in my head and messing me up. :D

Yes! Luna Episode so early in the season, and the synopsis seems to indicate (at least how I choose to read it) that canon Luna is fun/mischievous Luna, not sad Luna.
If true, it sounds awesome and ridiculously silly at the same time. It is very much a logic fail, "Luna herself shows up in Ponyville, determined to change her frightening public image." oh please make it be a Trollestia angle of her sister telling her.

There's no overt religion in Equestria, so it'd have to be entirely a secular holiday based around the solstice, or worse, commercialism and gift giving (shudder). The former would probably give Jack Chick a wet dream about the tracts he could publish decrying Pony as irreligious and full of lesbians, while the latter runs the risk of being really, really trite and overdone.
I trust the creative team to not make those kinds of mistakes, but still...

Oh you can get away with having a christmas themed episode. Just call it something else, like how in the world of Homestar Runner, they call it Decemberween. Although Winter Wrap Up might even count as a christmas special, though Rainbow Dash does say "Three months of Winter Coolness, and Awesome Holidays". So, there's that. Don't write it off yet.
I hope they do, Christmas special are normally heartwarming ones. Anyone remember the Pinkie and the Brain Christmas Special? It got that Emmy for a reason.

That's exactly what I'm wondering as well. Unless they're planning on having two Halloween episodes (Which is unlikely because they only mentioned one "scary" episode) then it would make infinitely more sense to air the episode the closest Saturday to Halloween as possible (Which is the 29th).

I cannot possibly fathom the amount of PMVs that will spring from this episode. Possibly way too many. But it's fine that way. ^^
Well don't rule out the Two Parter Possibility. Luna is deserving of such. The first one can be silly spooky stuff then the second one can be scary spooky stuff. Although I doubt that's the case, otherwise the episode would be listed as part 1 (although the first episode went by the title of Mare in the Moon in the tv listings initially).
Bah, I'll confirm the episode is airing before I worry about it being a two parter or not.
You bring about the topic of religion affecting the possibilities for episodes, but then you over-look the fact Halloween both is and is affected by religions.
As-to the reason of the 22nd over the 29th, they'll probably have a Halloween-themed block of programming, including a rerun so everypony can see me for two weeks.
