| I'll just assume this is discord for the time being, cause it's badass. |
The first episode has been confirmed! Information on it is below:
Episode 1: The Return of Harmony
Air Date: (Possibly) September 17th
Spoilered Synopsis: Discord escapes from his stone prison and Twilight and her friends act quickly to find the Elements of Harmony to stop him.
So what do you guys think this one will be about? It is now CONFIRMED as a two-parter.
*Update* Apparently a few months ago the entire episode storyline was leaked on /co/ (Text form, not the actual video). Here is the screencap, but do not bring it up in comments for the sake of major spoilers.

and to think I was gonna get some sleep tonight. I'm too excited now. I know it mite be not till next month or later but this is big news! Ohh this is gonna be great!
ReplyDeleteI hope Discord isn't just plotting to take over Equestria; that's not evil enough.
ReplyDeleteLet's say he wants to DESTROY IT. \,,/(ò_ó)\,,/
Oh Celestia, what will we ever do?!
@PokeyPiercy Actually (sans the ending), that sounds exactly like a story idea that the team might use...
ReplyDelete@Mattatatta
ReplyDelete3 probably makes the most sense for the show. 2 would probably take longer than they have and 1 would introduce more characters that would take fleshing out (i.e. also taking more time than they likely have).
How do I feel about this?
ReplyDeleteHold on a second. I left it around here somewh...ah, here we go:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LfJR6sAo0CU
Twilight "So exactly HOW many evil alicorns have you imprisoned?"
ReplyDeleteCelestia "A few..."
Awww, I was really hoping that the first episode would have something more to do with Luna. Like the Mane Six stay over at the castle after the Gala and they each meet her one at a time. Oh well, this could be good too. Or it could be really bad...
ReplyDeleteThis is going to be one of those all or nothing episodes isn't it? Oh my...
@PokeyPiercy
ReplyDeleteThis has potential.
@PokeyPiercy
ReplyDeleteI'd definitely be happy if that was the actual plot line.
@Mr. Belfast that poster is a spy (with the script=D)
ReplyDeleteI believe I read somewhere once that there were two episodes in Season 1 that were with held for whatever reason. This would fall in line with Sabrina's claims of having finished these episodes at the end of last season and her suspecting that they were going to be used as the Season Finale.
ReplyDeleteOn another note, I would actually be rather disappointed if we got a re-occurring villain, I can never take them seriously. Either make it one-arc thing or keep them out altogether, I'm not fond of villains that keep coming back with outlandish plans.
@Teilzeitbernd
ReplyDeletelol yes lord knows "good v. evil" NEVER makes for good storytelling
lol
Obviously, its in the execution.
In any case, I'm pretty sure the show's not gonna turn into Power Rangers or Sailor Moon or Fox Force Five.
Yes this is awesome, but the $20,000 question is: How are they doing this without alienating the original target demographic?
ReplyDeleteIf they make it so Luna saves the day, then they have failed to not impress me.
ReplyDeletePEOPLE PLEASE, DISCORD SIMPLY WANTS TO MAKE EQUESTRIA STRONG AGAIN AND PURGE IT OF NEFARIOUS ZEBRA INFLUENCES.
ReplyDelete@Desktop1030 Exactly what i think, you can't take re ocurring villains srsly due to the fact that all they do is make up plans that are easily defeated and will never come into fruition or prevail.
ReplyDeleteI see it's almost time for my grand entrance...
ReplyDeleteAnd how grand it shall be!
WELL SUCK ME SIDEWAYS
ReplyDeleteI was really busy all day today and justified not visiting EqD by literally saying to myself, "Well, It's not like I'm going to miss the first episode synopsis and release date, or anything..."
YESYESYESYESYESYESYESYEGSHHJAHJGHFGHAGHSGAFGASHASD... ahem... yes, I am rather excited at this excellent revelation.
ReplyDeleteI am very interested in how this turns out. The brief summary we have seems... odd, but I'm absolutely willing to give the team the benefit of the doubt.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if Discord is a pony? I believe past MLP generations used things like witches as villains, so...?
@ULTRAMARIOX
ReplyDelete... I see what you did there.
@A Mysterious Disembodied Voice
ReplyDeleteLEND ME YOUR POWER, AND I SHALL SEAT US UPON A THRONE OF PONY SKULLS!!!!!
@RifferKyle
ReplyDeleteWhat did I do?
Badass-looking Celestia from the teaser vid has got me intrigued, I must admit. I can't wait 28 days, as the suspense is killing me, along with the nervousness to see if S2 will live up to expectations. SOMEPONY PLEASE KILL ME AND REVIVE ME EIGHT HOURS BEFORE THE PREMIERE. Also it doesn't hurt to ask, who wants to take bets on when S3 is confirmed to be in the works? :P -dodges thrown rocks-
ReplyDeleteWell, I think that Discord will be a Demon Prince of Chaos Undivide-(is shot by everyone else)
ReplyDelete@GaruuSpikeHe could be trying to retake Equestria...
ReplyDeleteAt first Im like HOLY CRAP SEASON 2 INFO OMGOMGOGMGOGOGMGMGGMOGOGOMGMOGMOGGOGOGMOG 2 PARTER WITH AN EVIL PONY ESCAPED FROM TROLLESTIA'S DUNGEON THATS NOT THE MOON OHGMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMOGMOGOGOMG but at the same time Im wondering wait..... elements of harmony...2 part..... villain.... isnt this just season 1 episode 1 and 2 all over again? But Im still excited as I could possibly be
ReplyDeleteHELL TO THE MOTHER FUCKING YES! TAKE MY MONEY, TAKE MY HOUSE, TAKE MY CAR, TAKE MY BODY, TAKE ANYTHING, JUST GIVE ME THIS BADASSNESS NOW!
ReplyDeleteAnyways, I'm actually happy to see some good guy/bad guy in the show. I can see how people don't want this, but I think it's cool for season beginning or finale.
@EquusStorm
ReplyDeleteDude, I've already bet Season 4.
Suddenly, im not sure if im ok with this. We all, myself included, LOVE THIS SHOW, and everything it represents. So im just going to express what we all are feeling: We are all terrified that this wont live up to our expectations. Is that our own fault, for making our expectations too high? Have Lauren Faust & Co perhaps compromised their original plans, in order to appease us, a periphery demographic? (That thought alone makes me feel so sad and guilty.) Basically, everypony, im kinda scared for this new season. Take my money, my masculinity, take everything i have, i wont need it anymore, but please please PLEASE do a good job!
ReplyDelete@Black Yousa
ReplyDeletePerhaps he was like Nightmare Moon beta.
Or perhaps the show is going to go with a more FMA approach where everything in the world has an equal, balancing force. Discord could be the evil elements of harmony.
@Corkscrew
ReplyDeleteThat would be *quite* a swerve since that would IMPLY that Equestria was once a Crapsack World...
I just hope Discord involves some sort of darkness. I don't know why, but I do.
ReplyDeleteSo, uh, did anyone else just book the 17th off at work? With a convenient excuse that can be fitted to match the airdate if it changes?
ReplyDeleteAlso, to those worried about the episode being cheesy, uh... you do realize that you're watching a kid's show, right? A certain degree of cheese is both mandatory and part of the appeal.
The show seems to be making a habit of starting with epic two-parters. Wonder if they're going to continue the trend of filling in the rest of the season with Slice of Life episodes?
@FourCartridge
ReplyDeleteExactly what I'm thinking. I don't call it a fear, nor a concern, but it is something I'm dying to know. As much as I love this show, I want this show to keep it's target demographic in mind. I'd be heartbroken if I loved a show and it was changed completely to cater for different demographic, leaving me disappointed. So I really don't want the show to focus on us bronies instead of the children the show was originally designed for.
Don't get me wrong, we can still have awesome episodes and plots, children are NOT stupid (contrary to what Dora the Explorer will have you believe, the writers for that show must hate kids or at least think they are dumber than rolls of fabric), but I don't want the show to have storylines that are too out their for a young child to find interesting
ALL OF MY DASHFAEC!!!!1!
ReplyDelete/)^3^(\
will I be able to watch it online like youtube or hub because i don't have the channel
ReplyDelete@corkscrew
ReplyDeleteOkay that works too. :D
@SkaFox64
ReplyDelete"The Hub's ratings are going to f*cking skyrocket on the airing of the first episode.
[September 18 (or whatever day after the premiere)]
Ratings Guy: Mr. President, the ratings for the My Little Pony premiere are in.
Hub President: Yes, and? How are they?
Ratings Guy: Well, um. Just out of curiosity do you happen to know what the viewership for the Super Bowl was?
@Mattatatta
ReplyDeleteAgreed. I'm so worried about this happening.
@ajc
ReplyDeleteOf course, episodes are usually up on YouTube within the hour.
Oh my god. This just made my night!!
ReplyDelete@mycutiemarkisagun
ReplyDeleteBut a positive and encouraging message to children nonetheless, since they DO live in a crapsack world. If done right, it can teach children that there is always hope for a better world, and when there is a will to assist the betterment of everyone's lives, progress can and will be made
@David
ReplyDeleteYou mean Dazzleglow is canon?
...And a colt?
Haha! Spoiler markup fail. =^^=
ReplyDeleteI really, really hope the air date rumor is real, though. The waiting has been hard enough as it is.
I just feel like so much could go wrong and I'm not going to like it.
ReplyDeleteIt really doesn't make me feel good that they're using the same plot as the pilot episode.
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDelete@Mattatatta My worries exactly. Season One was brilliant, and all I could want out of Season 2, or any future seasons at that, is more of the same albeit elevated a bit each time.
ReplyDeleteJust how many siblings DOES Celestia have banished about the place?
ReplyDeleteFuck I am about to explode and yell YESYESYESYESYESYES but my family would just give me weird looks...
ReplyDeletesudden sporadic idea of why they need to find the elements...
ReplyDeleteThey confront Discord, and do manage to summon the elements, but he STEALS them. Then he flies off with them, intending to destroy them, but Rainbow Dash slams into him, causing him to drop the elements. Thus they must relocate the elements to use them against discord.
THAT would make sense.
I don't even care that they have a relatively similar premise to the pilot eps i am more concerned on whether or not this being or pony etc will become a re-occuring character but hopefully that may not happen and he/she/it will be a nice little welcoming party back to mlp.
ReplyDelete@mycutiemarkisagun
ReplyDeleteExactly, for all we know everywhere might've been "Everfree" once. It would make him a bit more then a generic cartoon villain if he was the deposed King of Equestria.
That could also be the reason why Celestia is only a Princess...
Point being, this could easily be awesome and non-generic.
Do want
ReplyDelete@Blaze
ReplyDeleteProTip: Harmony and Discord are ANTONYMS. Soooo...yeah.
I'm putting my money on Discord getting the upper hand by exacerbating the Mane 6's flaws (Rarity's narcissism, Pinkie's severe bipolar disorder, Applejack's RACISM, etc) and pitting them against each other.
Then they realize what's happening, squash their beefs, Super Saiyan up, and win the day etc.
Sorta like how The Spirit of Ghostface Killah made Huey realize that only peace and harmony can defeat a Nigga Moment in Season 2 of The Boondocks, Stinkmeaner Strikes Back.
@PokeyPiercy
ReplyDeleteYay, that's one of my favorite kind of guessing. It's up there with inferring and guestimation
@Brother_Fenir
ReplyDeleteNathan Fillion. And ponies.
Dear God, are you trying to kill me? The only thing more awesome than that would be Nolan Nor...HOLYFUCKNOLANNORTHALLOFMYMONEY.
/)^3^(\
ReplyDeleteDear god, I hate the stance that plots can somehow be 'too complex' for kids to understand. Wanna know a secret? When a plot is that incomprehensible, it's a sign of bad writing, not being mature.
ReplyDeleteTake Batman the Animated Series. Some of the deepest, darkest writing even seen on animation... and a massive hit with kids. Children can digest a LOT if it's presented well.
TBH the pilot episodes never were my favourites and I'm not really expecting anything better than that.
ReplyDelete*shrugs*
I'm just glad we are getting more ponies, and that I'll finally be able to watch them with the rest of you guys (instead of months after the season ended).

My God I love Jesus Christ! I can't wait ahhhhh!
I don't know if this is a good thing or not.
ReplyDeleteFriendship is Magic has been slice of life so far. Discord smacks of...continuity.
He smacks of continuity...villain.
And continuity villains demand attention.
Episodes and episodes of attention. Seasons of attention.
Do we not get to have a majority of the episodes about Twilight and the gang just...goofing around anymore? I'm a little apprehensive.
@Desktop1030
ReplyDeleteAs long as the team working on this show "don't forget the little ponies" (to quote Fluttershy), anything they do will be fine. As long as they cater for their original audience and either maintain or improve the show's popularity among them, then anything they do in the show that caters to the rest of us can be enjoyed without guilt.
Since the team is aware of our fears, ranging from fears of fanservice making a mess to fuck-ups with trying to make things "darker and edgier", they have made it their mission to not fall prey to the things that have contributed to any decent show's horrible demise as a result. I doubt the primary demographic will be shortchanged, but none of us will know until we've seen the entirety of Season 2 (because you can't say "they changed it, it sucks" without proper hindsight).
Still, I'd feel terrible if bronies stole the show away from children. It;d be the equivalent of stealing a child's favourite toy and painting over it to suit your tastes - completely ruining the toy in that child's eyes. Do you want to deal with a child in that level of resulting hysterics? Of course not! And neither does the show's team I suspect
I can't wait!!!
ReplyDelete@Hydra in a Top Hat I agree, and one awesome idea could be the introduction of the "elements of discord", these "elements" would be presented as basically dante's inferno with the mane 6 and whichever circle/element applies to each character.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mFT43NVLzGE
ReplyDelete^MFW I read this.
SERIOUSLY, I HOPE THIS IS TRUE.
Why? I had a FEELING Season 2 would be sprung on us sooner than December, and it would be AWESOME to know I'm right.
Secondly? My birthday is on the preceding Sunday (the 11th). THIS WOULD BE THE BEST (late) BIRTHDAY GIFT EVER. xD
highly unconfirmed and very plausible that it's a bunch of BS but....

ReplyDeleteThis.
Have people forgotten the 90s already? Shit, Gargoyles would probably get shipped off to Adult Swim if it was made it today.
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteYa know what would be funny? if Discord ends up looking like a pussy compared to that pic.
ReplyDeleteInb4 "Discord" and Rainbow Dash shipping.
ReplyDeleteI just know hasbro is sitting there... reading this... WATCHING US SQUIRM... and laughing about how much we can't wait... :(
ReplyDeletenote the word HE.
ReplyDelete@sleepingcobrox
ReplyDeleteIf I were to guess, he may be the mastermind behind Luna becoming Nightmare Moon.
They said that Luna's corruption wasn't her fault, right?
By Celestia am I giddy! I have the girliest(manliest) grin on my face right now. I've never been this excited for anything, not even Skyrim.
ReplyDeleteCome to think of it, if my theory in my earlier comment is correct, then it's actually unlikely that Discord will be a re-occurring villain. Ending a Season with a villain that will be reappearing consistently is a bit odd for a Childs Show, especially in it's first season, even more so considering how the first season was.
ReplyDeleteIt's possible that these Two Episodes were meant to contrast the Pilot and have Season One go out in a bang, but at some point were reassigned to make Season Two START with a bang.
Where is Dr. Whooves?!? I need the Tardis to go watch this episode now! If I get anymore excited, I will tear a whole in space and time through shear anticipation
ReplyDeleteWell, well, well. It looks like we have a few NEIGHsayers in the comments tonight. Relax, bronies! They got this! It's gonna be great and relax! The show's not gonna suddenly turn grimdark and it's not gonna be a rehash of the season 1 pilot. Just chill out, bronies!
ReplyDeleteSo damn excited for this!!!
ReplyDeleteI may be a male, but that doesn't mean I can't SQEEEEEEEEEEE.
ReplyDeleteSo, Gigyas pony. imokaywiththis.png.gif.jpeg.tar.bz2.exe
I know what I must do until its release...
ReplyDeleteRe-watch Season 1 5 times!
Cause I am not putting up with a fandom-wide freak out before every new episode with everyone wondering if the series will suddenly become RUINED FOREVER!!! I might have to cut off all contact with the fandom until the season finale if that happens.
ReplyDelete@Midnight Star Interesting... it sounds like what I would personally expect the script to be like.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteSo do you think we will get both episodes on that first day as a 1 hour special, or will we have to wait a week for the conclusion?
ReplyDeleteSeason two launches September 17th?
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to ME!
I hoping for a 1 hour special.
ReplyDeleteI much prefer the slice of life episode plots better than the first two-parter but I don't mind this idea as long as we don't get some boring villain trying to screw things up in every episode.
ReplyDeleteEither way what I want to know is WHEN is the premire?
@ZettaLux
ReplyDeleteWell duh, Dashie's been shipped with every female character and most male characters in this show and several others.
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteIf that above link is true, then the first episodes of this season will be more like bottle episodes, in that they will focus on the pony's interactions and these two episodes were produced off off last season's budget. Which of course is a lot better for the show than the ponies using the elements of harmony in ancient Egyptian laser battles.
ReplyDeleteKeep in Mind that the rest of the episodes will most likelybe slice of life with a hint of a story arc much like the first season. And I do believe the staff has enough experience to know what they are doing. They have a formula of success they won't change it drastically
ReplyDeleteyay! Best news all day.
ReplyDelete@Hydra in a Top Hat
ReplyDeleteI agree, children are not stupid (Fuck you Dora the Explorer, even my 20 month old brother knows you're insulting his intelligence), and they can easily grasp any story. But there is the issue with writing it in such a way that a child can quickly digest it and follow it while the entire episode plays out for 22 minutes. While us older people love major twists and mindfucks, most of our favourite examples of those moments come from stuff that has been built up over several episodes, from things that simply do not interest younger children, or are so heavy on the mindfucking that even we struggle to comprehend it - even hours after the show has ended. It's those things that need to stay away from FiM (which is pretty much a given). Not because children are stupid, but because it would be a bastard job to fit it all into 22 minutes, keep the episode humourous and fun like Season One was, and not leave us thinking like everything was rushed.
Again, I don't think children are idiots, but at the same time, I don't think there should be huge story arcs or twists within twists - for the sake of keeping things within the show's time limit, style, and level of quality.
If FiM gained a feature-length film, then there would be very little issue with intriguing plots that would never fit in a 22 minute slot. And I don't doubt that the original demographic would love it
Dunno how I feel about airing what's supposed to be last, first, especially if they reference episodes we haven't seen. But season 2 is season 2 so...STREAMERS FOR EVERYPONY!
ReplyDelete@Mattatatta
ReplyDeleteDarker and edgier? Maybe in my dreams. Animate Fallout Equestria and I WILL GIVE YOU MY LIFE IN SERVICE.
Oh another thing about kids. They can handle the dark stuff a lil better than you think. Fuck, I'm pretty sure my first boner came from watching Secret of NIMH and realizing "HOLY SHIT THEY *BLEED* IN THIS CARTOON, THIS IS AWWWWWESOME". Fast foward to age 8 and I'm memorizing Mortal Kombat fatalities (BLOCK + UP UP) and listening to Biggie Smalls rap about mugging pregnant women. Now Jurassic Park & the boxart for Doom........THAT kept me awake.
@Mattatatta Extensive storylines should be left to the fanbase no?
ReplyDeleteAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDelete@Midnight Star
ReplyDeleteI was tempted to believe it right up until the part about Cloudsdale being destroyed...I'm not saying that wouldn't be an absolutely perfect thing to distract Dash with, but I have to come back around to what people have said before: how dark are they willing to go with this?
I mean, granted, they're pretty much rewriting the book on making animated shows appeal to certain demographics as far as I'm concerned, but that plot point seems like it's right on that line between "too dark for little kids" and "just dark enough that they can handle it".
It's plausible, though. And that's enough to get me excited one more time.
Although I am a bit nervous about them going the "darker and edgier cause its better," route, I suspect that the creative team will do a good job and not fall victim to cynical themes. So far the writing team has been real good about avoiding common cognitive and logical mistakes that other media consistently gets wrong, which leads me to believe that at least someone on the team knows their psychology, philosophy and all that jazz.
ReplyDeleteKids are certainly able to digest complicated things, but the simple fact of the matter is that the standard "Good vs Evil," trope is horribly out of touch with reality. Not saying you can't have good or evil, but most of the time it is written in the lens of in-group bias and attribution fallacies as far as the eye can see. Its usually treated as some kind of inherent trait that people either have or they don't, which is total horse apples.
I'm personally tired of fantasy worlds that are set up necessitating a balance between "Good and Evil," as plain and objective as black and white. It was nice to have a world where good was the normal instead.
If episodes like Over a Barrel, Boast Busters and Party of One are any indication, the team will do a good job giving any villain a personality and a plausible reason for acting the way he/she does.
I think Faust and Friends still answer to Hasbro, and nobody is willing to pander the show on our behalf up there. That's what happened with Heroes when NBC gave them a blank check for Season 3, and Kring went into internet silence when the defecation hit the oscillation. There are too many nodes of communication for them to be off in there own little world, and if it comes down to it, we can make some noise, but we gotta keep in mind our place, and if the story team follows that rule too, I think we'll be ok.
ReplyDeleteI hope.
Disregarding other comments (seriously guys, so much comment ;) )
ReplyDeleteI'm excited. I'm just hoping the supposed target audience (the young girls the toy line is squarely aimed at) will like it as much as we, the periphery demographic, will.
@mycutiemarkisagun
ReplyDeleteWhat is meant by "Darker and Edgier" is that the show gets reworked to appeal to an older audience, to which there is a major backlash that ultimately kills the show.
It's better explained in it's tvtropes page.
I love FO:E, and if that was fully animated, I'd see no reason to live for anything other than to love ponies. Though the content of FO:E would give it an R-rating no doubt, but that's not the point (especially since I watched plenty of films rated 18 when I was a little kid, and still enjoyed them. The Die Hard trilogy especially comes to mind). The point is, that if the show changes to directly cater for us bronies rather than the original target demographic (which is EXTREMELY UNLIKELY, I've maintained that throughout my posts), then it can kill the show.
@Mattatatta
ReplyDeleteI agree with you that you couldn't have lots of twist and turns in the FIM story. Not only would it be hard to do in 22 mins (even an hour every week if Lost has taught us anything about, well, being lost) but, it would go against one of the biggest reasons I love the show: its a simple joy that makes you happy just to watch.
@Lemonitethank you
ReplyDeleteWait a minute... Discord? There are several fanfics about the Elements of Discord...
ReplyDeleteOH MY GOD WE'VE BEEN WRITING SEASON TWO ALL ALONG
Pretty much what mattatatta said. I think the creators of the show are smart enough to know what made the show good, but bad things have happened to good shows before.
ReplyDelete@IkusaGT
ReplyDeleteIf by "extensive" you mean, "so long that it would take a feature-length film to fit it all in" then sadly, yes. Which is a shame, there are some truly wonderful fan fics that would make perfect scripts for films, or even episodes (if the length of a given fic can be brought down to fit an episode). "Dangerous Business, Going Out Your Door", "Paradise", stories like those are beyond perfect for the show, but they are so long and drawn out, that they simply cannot be fit into a 22 minute episode. Even so, they would be hits with children, and a source of great entertainment for adults.
Discord is a HE.

Fallout Equestria is going a great job of handling good and evil realistically. And as much as I'd like to see it animated into some sort of youtube series or something, I'd be sad if grimdark replaced the happiness and joy of the show.
ReplyDeletePeople, especially kids, learn best from example. Its nice to have good, honest examples out there.
I want the show to maintain it's base, which is targeted towards young-uns, but I also want more adult jokes that are cleverly-hidden. xD And maybe a little more action. Actionnn. C'mon guys, there are a LOT OF ANIMATED SHOWS rated TV-Y7 that have face-punching in them. MLP:FIM could totally pull that. Totally.
ReplyDelete@icekatze
ReplyDeleteBut on the other hoof.......
Some ponies aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned or negotiated with. Some ponies just want to watch the world burn.
GUYS.
ReplyDeleteI DON'T HAVE HUB
I CAN NEVER GET IT
WHATDOIDOWHATDOIDOWHATDOIDO?!
You know what I would hope for? I want Discord to be an overly idealistic that supports a reasonable goal. His name implies Choas, Equestria is very orderly and organized. Perhaps Discord tried, and almost succeeded, in assassinating Princess Celestia because he views her as a totalitarian tyrant. He also thinks that controlling nature is wrong, and that it should act on it's own without the aid of ponies. After failing to make the world more choatic thanks to the mane six, they realize that Equestria requires a balance of Order and Choas. Discord is then sent to rule over the Everfree forest and prevent order from taking over the entire world.
ReplyDeleteThis now feels like a good day.
ReplyDeleteForget everything else that happened today, this information made waking up today worth it.
I'm now watching EqD like a griffon for an air date confirmation.
ReplyDeletePLEASE LET IT BE THAT SOON!!!
@Moo
ReplyDeleteIt'll be on the internet within an hour at most, and I think that the Brony Movie Night people were planning on streaming season 2 live as it was broadcast.
I need to be up for work in the morning at fucking 4:30 am.
ReplyDeleteNOW I CAN'T FUCKING SLEEP.
THANKS A LOT SEASON TWO. THANKS. GETTING ME ALL EXCITED AND SHIT. FUCK YOU. I LOVE YOU.
I WAS WATCHING RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES AND MISSED THIS NEWS! YOU MANIACS! YOU BLEW IT UP! DAMN YOU ALL TO HELLLLLLLL!
ReplyDeleteRemember that Evolution of a Scene video where at the end a bunch of backgrounds were cycled through but a few were not ever seen in the first season? One had an empty cage in a forest somewhere. I do modestly hope that will be incorporated into this Discord plot in some sinister way.
ReplyDelete@Mattatatta Though keep in minds that Jayson Thiesiien wishes to have an MLP FIM in the future as stated in his interview. So I think a movie isn't out of the question

ReplyDeleteWow, that actually sounds really interesting. I lost all doubt that this season won't be as good.
I just did a double take...
ReplyDeleteI could have sworn that season two would hit in October. Yay, earlier than expected! :D
I have been watching these comments between the two season 2 posts the past 2 hours, i would normally say i need an intervention from the internet but since its about ponies, its all good.
ReplyDelete@Sedaheht
ReplyDeleteThe empty cage in a forest was used for the "throw you in a dungeon in the place that she banished you to" in A Bird in the Hoof, wasn't it?
@Greenf0x
ReplyDeleteDon't worry, you're not alone. I got lucky enough to check ED right as the first one went up and haven't left since.
Sorry for posting this again but what's really interesting is that this was posted before today, before we even knew about Discord.

@Sindri
ReplyDeleteThis particular cage was noticeably different, as well as the surrounding environment.
@Filiecs
ReplyDeleteThis.
This is what children's cartoons should be aiming for. None of this Black vs. White, Good vs. Evil stuff. Something like a Yin-Yang would be better. FiM has already addressed this somewhat, almost every episode in Season One has the Mane 6 (and even side characters) showing their flaws, things about them that keep them from being 100% Good, but in turns helps them be relatable, believable. Even the "villains" (really they are more Neutral than anything) in Season One such as Trixie, The Dragon in Dragonshy, and Gilda are not evil, there is goodness to be found in them.
Basically, rather than eradicating every hint of Evil in everything (which is like trying to completely remove shadows from the world), a balance should be struck. Discord is needed in order for Harmony to exist, it is all down to balance.
@mycutiemarkisagunThats exactly part of the fallacy, and even in the movie that said quote was pulled from in character, the villain was shown to have a very specific and complicated motivation. They just had to spend about 2 hours of a feature film unravelling it for the audience, assuming they were paying attention.

YES!!!...Wait a second...This is going to be a two-parter again. Dang...Because I hear the last two-parter season opener had a couple week gap in between the two parts...
Please don't do that to me! I couldn't handle it! I don't care if you have to delay part 1 up to 3 weeks, make it part of the schedule. And also put it at a time when people might actually be watching. I get it, there are other shows on the Hub, but do you see any others with a fanbase this big when the show isn't even in season? Hmm? Wait, possible Saturday morning at 9 air time? That'll work. Now please tell me that's not just for the season opener. I need more than three bronies to be in Arkansas!
Consonance is the opposite of Dissonance, not Harmony. Harmony uses both. Just FYI.
ReplyDeleteWorking together often requires some amount of dissonance or you end up with group-think and the like.
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE-
ReplyDelete*five minutes pass*
-EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
YES.
My only hope is that they don't give a definite definition to why Luna went to the moon! Because that would render everything we've strived for *non-canon*!
Ahem. EEEEEEEEEEEE-
Can't wait! Hopefully season 2 will live up to my unreasonably high expectations.
ReplyDeleteThe synopsis seems a bit lackluster, but I'm sure the actual episode will be great.
lol, Hasbro SELLS TOYS. That's why you won't see Faust fly *too* far from the nest.
ReplyDeleteReally, if they decided "screw the kids" and opted to cater strictly to the Bronies, I forsee the results being more along the lines of an irreverent Adult Swim stoner comedy instead of this 100 ep storyarc Shōnen epic that some of you bizarrely imagine the show becoming.
Personally, I'd put good money that the majority of the fanbase would go APESHIT for that kind of change.
And you know what? There's a decent chance that alot of the kids watching would dig it too. Hell, Nickelodeon practically made an industry out of that sort of kids animation back in the 90s.
So the script screencap is legit?
ReplyDelete@Vyuun
ReplyDeleteWithout mentioning the details, of course.
@Vyuun
ReplyDeleteIt very well could be.
You guys want a countdown? No?
ReplyDeleteTHAT'S TOO BAD!
http://www.timeanddate.com/counters/customcounter.html?msg=%28Rumored%29+Air+date+of+s2+01&month=09&day=17&year=2011&hour=09&min=0&sec=00&p0=66
Bam! Have a countdown anyways!
So I take it somepony is already working on a Discord/NMM shipfic? And probably a Celestia/Discord clopfic. Awesome.
ReplyDelete@GenericUsername
ReplyDeleteHmm, interesting. If it is, it's a bit darker than I expected. I know people have touched on this already though, so I won't get into it more.
@Select Few
ReplyDeleteAAAAAWWWWWWW now it seems so far away.... But i guess i found my new homepage for 27 days
@Matata Balance between good and evil is idiotic.
ReplyDeleteA balance by definitions is still a good vs evil plot because balance is good and imbalance is bad....
I agree characters should be complex but that ting yang stiff is ridiculous
YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDelete@Vinny
ReplyDeleteI'm writing Part 5 as we speak.
@Rogue Trader I guess this makes me...
ReplyDelete*glasses pull*
...late to the punchline.
Discord, eh? Only if Keith David plays him.
ReplyDeleteChaos> Oh minions, for this next cycle, I've noticed Cosmos has recruited a few... ...horses, and taken a similar shape.
Emperor> So we're fighting equines now, are we? Has Cosmos finally lost her mind?
Garland> NO MATTER! I SHALL CRUSH THEM ALL!!
Chaos> That being said, I've looked into the world she pulled them from, and found a most... ...unusual bunch to throw their way.
Kefka> Let me take a guess! Candy-coated pretty ponies of DESTRUCTION AND MEYHEM??!?!!
Chaos> No, Kefka, just... um... shut up.
Sephiroth> Well, whatever you pulled out of that world can't be much more threatening than cotton candy. Throw some diabetes their way so we can get to the real fighting.
Chaos> /sigh...
Gonna have to make a Dissidia crossover now. It's just begging to be made.
@icekatze
ReplyDeleteOf course its out of touch with reality. Reality sucks. We indulge in fiction to escape reality.
Not clicking that screen cap.
ReplyDeleteAnd for the love of Celestia, nopony talk about what's in it!
Who's willing to bet that after an epic two part opening story, the second season goes back to slice of life again?
sounds pretty badass
ReplyDeleteanyone think they are trying to make it more mature because of the growing adult audience? sounds like it from this episode
AWESOME!
ReplyDeleteBut I want to ask: What code did you use for the spoiler tag? I've been trying to figure out how to do that on my own blog.
@GenericUsername
ReplyDeleteIf that is 100% legit, then omg sarcastic fluttershy, i dont know what to think on this, fluttershy is one of my fav ponies, *looks at profile pic* as if that wasnt obvious.
So, about that screen cap, I hopes its true that Discord is- *Gets an evil glare from Seth and Octavia*...Is...a...character in the episode. Yes, that is what I was going to say. Nothing else at all...
ReplyDelete*bad poker face*
@Vyuun
ReplyDeleteI've every reason to believe so. I had it saved from when it was first posted, and can attest to the fact that it hasn't been shooped or anything.
@Luna
ReplyDeleteI wasn't really going for a "balance" plot myself. I was trying to imply that if Celestia Conquered the Everfree forest, it would drive most of its inhabitants into extinction because they thrive on the freedom that comes with chaos. Thus Discord, who supports freedom and choas, would be tasked as protector of the Everfree forest the keep it "Forever Free".
@Luna
ReplyDeleteYeah, I sucked at really trying to convey what I was thinking.
The Yin-Yang thing is restricting in itself, as it makes it impossible for even the most hated characters to be easily and quickly removed - without the worry about them coming back with a vengeance etc etc.
It's hard to explain, but I guess the bottom line is that nothing should follow a concrete set of 'rules' when it comes to storylines dealing with a struggle against a 'good' side, and an 'evil' side. If there is an avenue for making an interesting story that doesn't involve a predictable ending ("team rocket blasting off again... and again... and again... and again... *sigh*"), then it should be explored. Given FiM's style being popular due to the stories not being cynical ("we saved the day, but tomorrow the world is just going to fuck itself over anyway"), and the most villainous characters either being completely wrapped up or given the chance to make amends and recognise their flaws (they'll never be perfect, but the fact that they can start trying to be better is enough).
I'm losing my sharpness now, I'm rambling. Anypony in the FiM team reading this: Don't take notice of these Black vs. White comments I've posted, assuming you are at all, I'm too mentally drained to even know what the fuck I'm saying now.
Not mentioning the spoilers, just saying that, it sounds awesome! I really hope it'll be as dark as it makes itself seem. Not sure though, it's a concept that can still be executed with a lighter atmosphere.
ReplyDelete@CupcakesNom
ReplyDeleteHmmm... something easy that would explain quite a few things, and that I'm not sure why I haven't thought about it before today :
They made them APPEAR once, to defeat Nightmare Moon... maybe after being used they,well, simply *disappeared*, back to whatever they came from ?
It would be a logical way to work, for 'Magical Artefacts', really.
They were summoned, and went away once their ''job'' was done.
And, now the mane cast must ''re-summon'' them, in a way or another.
Can't believe I hadn't thought more about this, before now ?
@DeRockProject
ReplyDeleteI read it, I doubt it'll be any more darker than Pinkamina's debut, probably not any less darker than Season One's two-parter too.
Not much to say other than the obligatory this is fantastic news to the millionth power along with an equally obligatory squee.
ReplyDeleteAs if we ponies weren't crazy enough, now we are going to have some extra madness fuel due to super euphoric uncontrollable anticipation excitement.
Huzzah Season 2!
Just read part of the screencap
ReplyDeleteand... holy shit.
Dug up that quote I was looking for.
ReplyDelete"When news of Season 2 first came out, Top Draw Animation listed 24 episodes for the season. However, Equestria Daily reports that Daniel Ingram (composer for FiM) posted a resume listing 26 episodes in Season 2. As it is possible that Top Draw was not involved in all episodes for Season 2, and as Season 1 had 26 episodes, it seems likely that Season 2 will also have 26 episodes."
26 Episodes Confirmed: From Daniel Ingram's Facebook Page:
"So how can Top Draw say they are doing 24 episodes this year for Season 2 of FiM, and my credit list say 26, and BOTH be accurate? Because 2 episodes for season 2 were animated in 2010 as part of the Season 1 package. They are now sitting on a shelf deep in Hasbro Studios waiting patiently for the other 24 to join them."
http://www.mylittleponynews.com/2011/05/season-2-may-have-26-episodes-mlpfim.html
And based off of Sabrina's' comment in the earlier post:
"@ Select Few
Duuuude, I did and I still do. ;P
As for the air dates, I can't help you on those...sorry! It seems a bit early to me, but we actually made this episode at the end of last season, and I thought it was going to air last. I guess the Hub had other plans!"
('End of last season' may be subjective, I'm still not entirely clear on how the Team's production process is, and I'm uncertain if she's reffering to S1 or S2, though now that I think about it, likely S2, which may be slightly contradictory to me.)
I stand by my theory that Season 2 will likely be more of the same of Season 1, and that this Two-Part premier featuring 'Discord' was originally intended as the Season Finale for S1.
Idk, end rant I guess, but I have a hunch this may be the case.
Are you saying that that's bad or good?
ReplyDeletei was about to sleep when i see this. now i cant sleep because im thinking of what will happen.
ReplyDeleteThat pretty much sums up my thoughts desktop. Also on her deviant art page sabrina, answered one of my questions about the series, and stated that "The show stays true, don't worry." So I am pretty sure what you said is correct.
ReplyDeleteSeason 2 might begin airing in September? AW YEAH!
ReplyDeleteThis confirms that Season 2 is going to be so unbelievably awesome. I have a feeling Season 2 is going to be about 20% cooler than Season 1.
@Crunch IMO more of the same is a good thing.
ReplyDelete@RaptorJetpack: That's actually really relieving for me haha.
I'd be disappointed if FiM wound up with uncomplaining re-occurring villains and plots that involve the cast essentially becoming super heroes.
Just read the screencap spoiler.
ReplyDeleteWhoa.
Can't believe they're killing off Fluttershy, but I guess the Whodunnit will be the major arc this season.
@Mattatatta
ReplyDeleteI think I get what you're trying to say. Most of the problems that face our real world are self inflicted, or at least inflicted on out-groups out of lack of concern, and it really seems to be too much to ask for everyone to work together.
So in those regards, perhaps a villain of discord could prove dangerous not in what he can do himself, but in what he can make others fail to do.
Season two premier stuff shared + 30 million hits reached?
ReplyDeleteMaybe not the best night ever, but it's as good as a brony can get between seasons! Huzzah, and congrats Seth!!
That's it. I'm writing this whole thing off as nonsense.
ReplyDelete"Not clicking that screen cap.
ReplyDeleteAnd for the love of Celestia, nopony talk about what's in it!"
Wow, what spoilers. They're all vampires, and then they explode? I never would have guessed.
ReplyDelete:P
Way to fail at spoilering the plot synopsis Seth, shows up plain as day on my screen despite the black highlight.
ReplyDeleteAAAAAAH, THIS TOLD ME NOOOTHING

ReplyDeleteHey! If it's as dark as Party of One, that's dark enough for me! But I didn't think ep 1/2 was that great. Or dark. It has to be DARKER.
And no I don't care who they're gonna cater to. Wasn't catering to little girls exactly why everyone hated them? Isn't it because they decided to appeal to the older parents the reason this show became that popular again? Well, maybe it's not the only or the most direct reason, but it probably helped. A lot.
Anyway, what I'm trying to say is. I don't care. As long as I like it, it's good. And I don't know what will make me like it, and I don't have anything specific in mind. Simply, it's cool if I think it's cool.
OMG! RAINBOW DASH WAS GAY AFTER ALL! oh crap...Seth said no spoilers...sorry ^_^U
ReplyDeleteCURSES! I thoughht they'd follow s1 with a s2 2 parter... why can't they show it together as a movie night sort of thing?! and airing at 9am? you know how many kids are gonna miss school just to see this? *cough* or parents call out sick from work =P
ReplyDeleteI'll facehoof though if Discord ends up being Celly and Luna's older brother! >XD
Banished within a small mountain that probably got mined out by some unfortunate Diamond Dogs.
Now the mane six must collect the Dra-- I mean Elements of Harmony once more as they try and figure out which Pony had bought their pawned jewelry! Twilight was a bit short on cash one day and figured she couldn't pass up that deal on a FULL set of Equestrian Encyclopedia and thus figured what the hay she was the element of magic itself why keep a silly trinket right? Fluttershy wasn't much for Jewelry, she got enough attention as is, and traded hers for more animal feed. Rarity had accidentally sold hers by mistake unlike the others not noticing she had placed hers with a dress that was on sale one day...
Well you get the idea ;3 SILLY PONIES!
@Mr. Belfast
ReplyDeleteTwilight "So exactly HOW many family members have you imprisoned?"
Celestia "...would that be counting those on my father's side? *sheepish grin*"
Twlight let's out an audible and lud groan
loud*
ReplyDelete@DeRockProject
ReplyDeleteIf it is dark like Party of one,ok then,but for crying out loud,why this show has to go darker that black?.Yes,this has an adult appeal but still,the fact is this is still a show FOR girls from a franchise of toy FOR girls.
And no,wasn't Mrs.Faust goal with this show to prove that Girly ≠ Lame? a lot of people love the show for what it is: a cute (girly)show that is genuinely funny that is not cynical with epic scenes.
So they must keep catering to the girls/kids in general while maintaining the adult appeal.There's no need to go through a dark hole of blackness to appeal certain sector of the fanbase.
And is funny because I thought episode 1 and 2 were good.
I thought I could handle those spoilers. Thank goodness I stopped before I could regret too much.
ReplyDeleteSomebody had better have it up on youtube or something, when it's out.
ReplyDeleteseriously its been what 5 months now and the idiots at the Australian Free TV still haven't seen the fact that the show is MAJORLY popular in the US MAJORLY popular in England.
WHY the hell isn't it airing here?
seriously we have the toy's, but not the show.
I'm assuming that the Australian Free TV are scared of money ratings and success.
This had better be up on Youtube the same day they air it. Why does the US get all the channels I want to watch?
ReplyDeleteSETHISTO! GET RID OF THAT UPDATE! I don't know how much longer I can keep myself from clicking it.
ReplyDeleteCelly just loves locking things in rocks. First her big brother then her little sister... Well that's what happens when you ignor the middle chld.
ReplyDeleteI highly doubt they will drastically change the atmosphere of the show in any significant way from season 1. Remember, the reason we have this amazing community and fandom is due to the fact that the show itself supplied us with little more than an awesome foundation of great animation and characters, with subtexts only hinted at, for out imaginations to build upon. FiM is cake, we get to ice it.
ReplyDeleteHow many fanfics will this kill? Seems like a lot of info is going to be dropped that changes the (assumed) continuity here. I'm hesitant to start writing one now...
ReplyDeleteStill, looking forward to this.
Something tells me that Discord's escape is what causes Celestia's game face we saw in the commercial.
ReplyDeleteI hope Discord has a motivation other than evil for the sake of being evil. I prefer villains that have a motivation based on their past experiences or prejudices.
The horror! The horror! Why did I have to look back at this and notice it was updated with that screen cap. This is the first time I've ever wanted brain bleach. Ever.
ReplyDelete*must resist spoiler*
ReplyDeleteYou are tearing me a part Ponies!
This made my day approximately 20% cooler, happier and better in general.
ReplyDeleteI knew I shouldn't have doubted the team's ability to not screw this up. This is gonna be awesome.
THEY DID IIIIIT, THEY DID IIIIT.
ReplyDelete*huff*
Well, seem's pretty cool to me!
OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOGMOGMOGMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOGMOGMOGMGOMGOMGOGMOGMGOMGOMGOMGOGMOGMOGMGOMGOMGOMGOGMOGMOGMGOMGOMGOGMOGMGOMGOMGOMGOGMOGMGOMGOMGOGMOGMOGMOGMGOMGOGMOGMGOMGOGMOGMGOMGOMGOGMOGMGOMGOMGOGMOGMOGMGOMGOMGOGMOGMGOGMOGMGOGMGOMGOGMOGMOGMGOGMOGMOGMOG- *Gasp for air* Okay I am done.
