• Canterlot Castle Full Set

    Source: Lady Moondancer
For those of you who are curious about some of the new pony stuff that was recently released, this is the full canterlot castle set .  The entire thing costs 40 bucks, and includes both Luna and Pinkie Pie.  The actual castle itself is made of cardboard...yes cardboard.

It includes a whole mountain of random accessory things, some of which come from other g3 toys.  It's not really a brony centered product (obviously) but for the collectors out there, it might be neat!

I'm not really sure what the correlation is between Pinkie Pie and Luna, but that is totally a wedding cake... just sayin.

You can find the thread about it here

      .................What?

    5. Spike has been on all fours since the gift set and Twilight's balloon.

Dear Hasbro, this is 20 bucks at most. If you want it to be 40 bucks then make it PLASTIC!

      I do like that piano/organ. But I find it weird that Luna and Pinkie are in the same set. Maybe a Twilight but Pinkie? No. D;

    7. On the next episode of Equestrian Hoarders. . .Celestia needs to start doing some cleaning cause that's one cluttered ass castle.

    8. At least Spike looks pretty similar to in the show

... huh, that Luna toy is a decent likeness. Not great, but passable.

In a $40 cardboard castle with random accessories.

      TRIPLE FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-

    13. ...$20 too much, for a product that probably cost about $10 to make. give me a plastic castle, or more (larger) ponies, and we'll talk.

"HASBROOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! What kind of people run that company, trolls?"

I think they've learned a thing or two from 4chan.

    15. Hmm, let's see... I'd say.... We'll get new, Brony-friendly merch around the same time as Season 2, maybe a bit after.

A year for the production, and all that, if everyone else is to be believed.

It will be a good time to be a brony indeed, eh?

      ReplyDelete
    16. My eyes must be playing up; it looks like Pinkie Pie has a sparkly mane. (A nod at a future Princess Pinkie Pie, perhaps?)

Over 40 accessories? I'd sooner it didn't come with any and traded the plastic in for a better castle.

      How would a non-unicorn use a spray-bottle, anyway?

Am I the only person disappointed to see Luna in a castle filled with loot and not have her with a microwave?

    17. Inb4 tons of Luna Pinkie Pie ships

      ReplyDelete
    18. Cherilee, Apple Bloom, and Sweetie Bell spotted on the castle. Scootaloo seems to be missing....

I smell canon Scootabuse for season 2!

No wait, it's just my room mates cologne.

    19. Toy news is always the same... same crappy toys, new package. how many waves of these things did they make!? and all they say about merch for the surprise demograph is "Stay tuned" or "not in 2011".

      ReplyDelete
    20. Cardboard? For $40? I'll pass.

    22. Well, people must realize the toy line is supposed to be marketed toward the young crowd still for the most part. So of course these aren't what the Bronies want exactly. More Brony-related merchandise will be coming out eventually though.

      ReplyDelete
    23. @Sonic Flare Now, now, she's been collecting stuff for over 1000 years! It's a miracle there's room to fly, never mind walk!

*Looks at set.* Wait, does Spike have a cardboard cutout of Rarity? Woah, Spike, your crush just moved out of "cute" territory and right into "creepy". Stop taking lessons from Applejack.

      ReplyDelete
    24. Looking again, I'll think I'll pass when it reaches jolly old England. The custom, fan-made stuff is generally better anyway.

Speaking of which, all my money to anyone who's going to AnimeCon in London this Sunday and had a decent Fluttershy plushie!

      ReplyDelete
    25. Is that Applebloom and Sweetie Bell?
First time I've ever seen those two on a MLP toy

      ReplyDelete
    26. Given the age group of their target demographic making the box part of the toy is actually kind of clever. And "green".

But for $40, I'd expect either a few more ponies in the set, or for there to be a good bit of "flat packed" sections that can be folded out and built into other parts of the castle.

      ReplyDelete
    27. pffff! cardboard? they wont know it's the castle, they just think it's the box and throw it out. back in our day, we had huge detailed PLASTIC playsets http://www.retrojunk.com/details_articles/75/
All kinds of nooks and crannies to play with.

      ReplyDelete
    28. That cutout of Rarity lurking in the carriage is slightly creeping me out...

      ReplyDelete
    29. The article linked says that Rarity and Scootaloo are on the end sides. Applejack is missing, though, from the outside art.

I think people are understimating making it out of multi-layer lithograph laminated cardboard, though. Mattel's been doing stuff like this for some time for some playsets and storage cases.

    30. luna's toy sucks.
and i had such hope after seeing cheerilee.

      ReplyDelete
    31. taking into account the ponies the carrage and all the props, I estimate it's real value to be aprox $10 - $15 less then the price.

      ReplyDelete
    32. Shine Bright Luna? And lazy Hasbro reused G3 accessories, they are too small.

      ReplyDelete
    33. Damn it, all I want out of that whole set is the alternate pose Pinkie Pie. frick. It's not worth $40 to me though... not even close.

      ReplyDelete
    34. Oh, I forgot to mention this, but Hasbro forgot Luna's chest plate AGAIN. What's going on? this is worse than AJ's Hat.

      ReplyDelete
    35. Luna, y u no have wings? Somehow the Canterlot stuff seems to get to Hasbro though. So much Gala stuff we don't need.
Need Brony stuff. Show accurate. I would totally buy a big, good looking Pinkie plushie.

      ReplyDelete
    36. I seriously think something needs to be brought to the attention of someone over there in Hasbro. Seriously their quality control has gone to hell in a pinto. Celestia remains pink, Luna has no wings and frankly looks pudgy and not the sleeker look of the new ponies. Reusing accessories that will not work. missing ones shown in every episode in the show. hell even the coloring of the toys does not match the packages they are in. They need to get some sort of quality control going or they are going to become a laughing stock in the toy industry. They just need to employ some people who give a damn and are not color blind and listen when they say that it is a bad toy.

      ReplyDelete
    37. Actually, she does have wings, they're just hard to see in the picture because they're made of clearish purple plastic, they're the part that lights up, like with Rainbow Dash's shine bright pony.

      ReplyDelete
    38. Lol get ready for Luna Pie shipping fics... if they don't already exist.

      ReplyDelete
    39. For a second, when I saw the first thumbnail, I thought the label in the top-right corner that says "OVER 40" was an age recommendation.

      ReplyDelete
    40. Spike is bipedal not quadrapedal god-damn it.

      ReplyDelete
    41. Huh? I thought this set was meant to include a new non-show pony and Shine Bright Twilight Sparkle? According to earlier toy news posts on the blog. Also, that cutie mark on the other pony looks nothing like three balloons. Are we sure that's who is supposed to be in this set?

      ReplyDelete
    42. ^ I know right? I've seen him quadrapedal in the show twice only.
      --
Cardboard castle, recycled items, and Pinkie Pie's mane and tail are still in Pinkamina mode. Typical Hasbro. But it has a Rarity cutout in the carriage. Quick, someone write a comic!

      ReplyDelete
    43. To clarify:
I am not marrying Pinkie. I am not dating Pinkie. I have barely spent any time at all with Pinkie.

That pony gives me a headache within ten minutes if she has no pony else to talk to.

But it just so happens, she's the planner for the wedding.

      ReplyDelete
    44. Celestia is Pink to appeal to young girls...'cause apparently it's been proven that Pink>White when it comes to getting attention and sales - I don't see Hasbro forsaking that to accomodate anyone, sadly!

      ReplyDelete
    45. Wait a second...
Why is Applejack missing from that packing? We have Gravity-Defying Twilight, Fluttershy, Pinkie, Dash, Rarity, Cheerilee, Applebloom, Sweetie Belle, Celestia, but no Applejack and I'm not on the package, considering Pinkie gets to be on it and in it.

But they should be facing the other way, looking out the window instead of away from it.

      Also:
      - Rarity's Make-over vanity
      - Twilight's telescope
      - Only two pieces of over-sized cake similar to what Pinkie would serve
      - Pinkie's cake from Party of One (Really, Seth. You should recognize that)
      - The spiked punch bowl
      - Scootaloo's piano from Show Stoppers
      - A toaster? W-why is there a toaster?
      - Two malts
      - Serving cart
      - Pinkie's fridge (since it'd be impolite to empty the princess')
      - Sugar Cube Corner stove
      - Eggs in a pan
      - Carton of eggs

      - Pinkie has a clashing blue crown
      - I get a clashing yellow crown

Why is my crown yellow!? It's supposed to be either midnight blue, or black. Yellow just looks so bad with my coat!

Oh no! They've turned us into omnivores! They have eggs! EGGS!

      ReplyDelete
    46. @Luna

      >letmeexplainwhythat'sbullshit.jpg

      >Eggs

How does one make cake? With eggs.
Ponies are not vegans in canon, they clearly drink milk and eat eggs, though they do not appear to actually kill anything and eat it like a carnivore.

      Ponies are basically vegetarians.

      ReplyDelete
    47. They've already been eating eggs in baked goods. That's why they raise chickens.

Eggs, milk, cheese.. They're already omnivores, just don't eat meat. Well... except for Pinkie's hotdogs (?!) and.. um.. whatever was on that sandwhich AJ was looking at.

I feel sorry for Spike. They've already aknowledged that cats and owls eat meat.. Fluttershy even feeds some worms to some birds personaly. I bet Applejack feeds Winonna a healthy diet, too. Twilight needs to let poor Spike consume the flesh of his enemies.

.. I'm rambling now.. Luna has a pet mouse! Royal Carriage!

Hasbro should do a Celestia chariot set once they figure out how to do a male mold.

      ReplyDelete
    48. Well, it's pretty clear that Lunie Pie is now cannon. Oh, look at that! It's shipping time.

      ReplyDelete
    49. Collectors aren't exactly pleased with these new sets either. . . the price is ridiculous compared to the shitty quality.

I believe everypony should write complaints to Hasbro about the Canterlot line and how their "niece" cried in terror at the sight of it.

      ReplyDelete
    50. $ 40... People, don't buy this or Hasbro only will make things like this with absurd prices, after all the "collectors" will buy them anyway. DON'T BUY THIS IN $40!

      ReplyDelete
    51. But Luna wasn't at the gala...

      ReplyDelete
    52. Spike... is looking at cardbord Rarity's... Cutie Mark.... His crush is now CREEPY.

      ReplyDelete
    53. And as a continuation of my above comment, so is the picture of Celestia. Someone now needs to write a fanfic about Celestia and Spike teaming up to stalk Rarity.

      ReplyDelete
    54. I'm so mad they bothered to put the better eyes on Shine Bright Luna and Styling Luna, but not on the regular Luna figure that comes with Celestia. D:

Somebody please tell me theirs a regular Luna single in this line with those eyes. Otherwise, I'm just gonna have to wait until the better merch rolls out...

      ReplyDelete
    55. I do not want to pay $40 for all that crap and JUST THE FREAKING LUNA I WANT. I want this Luna and the derpy Luna, and then I will put this Luna's head on derpy Luna's body. BUT I CAN'T GET TO THIS LUNA WITHOUT BUYING THE WHOLE THING. I SWEAR TO GOD I WILL KNIFE OPEN THIS PACKAGE AND STEAL LUNA. AND MAYBE THROW DOWN A FEW DOLLARS IN HER PLACE.

      ReplyDelete
    56. Here's an interior pic:
      http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5EicPulhEDU/TjzjHPhVhGI/AAAAAAAAAJs/vPeXBlr9zCE/s1600/Clipboard01.jpg

Differences between the toy and the show:
      1. The exterior on the show is a circular, not rectangular. (Keep in mind, the great hall/throne room shown in The Best Night Ever and the hall shown in Hearth's Warming Eve aren't the same room)
      2. The great hall is sideways. If this opened up like a dollhouse, the great hall would be split in half with the windows on one side and the throne on the other, and it wouldn't be a problem.
      3. The great hall is to scale, but the other rooms are shown as being much smaller than they should be. If they made the dolls smaller, there'd be less options for accessories, so the only reasonable solution is to make the castle bigger. Then it might be worth the $40, especially if they made it dollhouse-style, so you'd have twice the room.
      4. The side door is not present in the show. If anything, there'd either be a smaller door built into the drawbridge or a secondary gate, making that whole side room unnecessary.
      5. Celestia's bedroom(maybe?) doesn't match the one in the show, which had a fireplace and circular bed.
      6. The bedroom wallpaper and telescope in Luna's room is a nice touch, but the other details seem random, especially the television and microwave (which Equestrian technology seems to exclude anyway).

Yes, I know that the show usually follows the toys and not the other way around, but take Fluttershy's cardboard puzzle house, for example. Its depiction in the show and on the toy are nearly identical, with many character-specific details, and it's a well-designed and cheap toy. I don't expect everything to be of the same standard, but this castle set had a lot of potential.
