• Spike's Quest Game Engine Demo #3 Released

Misterbull has sent us another engine demo for the game Spike's Quest. Seth said he tested it and it works fine, so I'm going to forgo that step. So, if it's a virus, it's Seth's fault, not mine.

Misterbull would like to emphasize that this is not indicative of the final game, but is simply a test of the engine. He releases these tests about once every Wednesday. If you'd like to keep up with the development of the game, there's a thread on Ponychan here that you can bookmark for more information.

The actual game can be downloaded here.

    3. The 3D BG seems to make it lag in certain points =/

    7. It could seriously do without the custom folder data and crap.

Then again, so could the entirety of Windows.

    9. There doesn't seem to be much in the way of actual gameplay just yet, but it was fun exploring the level!

    10. Oh Cerial, why must you use that old dummy screenshot? I'm not even sure I'm going to use those graphics. It was just a quick mockup I did in Paint Shop Pro as a thread boot-up image!

Oh well. All is good. :3

btw, I'd like to advise folks who want to watch this project to follow the dev blog more than the Ponychan thread: http://spikeqdev.blogspot.com/ I'll be doing most of the updates there.

Also for bug reports write to my e-mail: bullockarts@gmail.com

Anyway, have fun! There's still much more to come!

    11. They should have made it in Flash. Many people are hesitant to download EXEs onto their PCs, so Flash games get more viewers.

    12. My basic thought-process:

      Saw image...Awesome.

Saw download...Sweet, maybe I'll play it.

Downloaded in .5 seconds...Sweet, I'll play it now.

Zip opened...CRAP it's an EXE! Why you no support Linux!

Tried opening in WINE...HOORAY! IT WORKS! (More-or-less...)

    13. press left and right at the same time for double-spike

    14. well, there's good parts of the game progressing, however, I'd like it if there could be some imnotacleverpony or makkon music, maybe both.

yes, the level was fun to explore, there should be an added power, or powerup, for spike's fire breath and ability to access magic.

I don't really see much of a different between the 2D and 3D.

also, yeah, double spike if left and right is held down, that needs a quick fix

and I don't like much when spike runs slow or just walks, maybe have run when shift, or some key next to jump or power, is used, or runs automatically.

overall, thanks for the great game and hope that it goes well ^^
