Oh my Celestia that looks amazing. When I first saw the screen shots I thought it'd just be okay at best but that looks like some solid fighting with awesome chain combos, not to mention the character model shown is very well animated and the music Rainbow Crash is making fits it so well.

This looks no more graphically violent than anything that's actually happened on the show, and unless they're attempting to charge money for it then I doubt they'll get hit with a cease & desist.
Unless Hasbro is also making a similar game, but the odds of that are pretty low.

I do recall Applejack and RD beating the tar out of each other in Fall Weather Friends. The show may be about friendship, but friends wail on each other all the time. Could just be in the spirit of competition rather than malice.

Probably by limiting the Pegusi to either temporary flight or just double jump/extended hang time. Unicorns will probably have a comparatively long cool down animation behind any of their ranged attacks to make up for it. Long range, but leaves them open if you dodge it.
Wow, I was actually amazed at how fluid the animation was on this... I expected it to look kind of choppy, but no, the fighting was actually really well animated!
Now I'm EXTRA excited for this.

I picture Rarity doing a kind of Midnight Bliss thing where she wraps her opponent in something fabulous and then attacks while they're stunned. Fluttershy's harder to imagine, but then, she's got "the Stare" down... she'd probably get Angel to do most of the violent stuff.

This video gave me an idea for a story line:
An evil toy company starts producing cheap recolored knockoffs of the Mane Cast and giving them different names, and it's up to the ponies to beat the tar out of their unholy clones to defend their trademarked dignity!

Even though it seems so wrong to have ponies fighting, this looks like the best fighting game ever. The animation is amazing. Love the details like the hat coming off with some moves. So, even if it is wrong having the ponies beating the snot out of each other I want to play this.

Why can't you throw the character off the screen? The arenas are obviously big enough to do it, but each time they stop at the edge of the screen instead of a barrier in the game.

So much work has gone into the animations here. It's incredible. Some fan made games just don't look like the characters are there in the environment they've been placed in, but these characters genuinely react.

Judging by the amount of PC's that was announced previously, I must say that I don't think there are enough characters.
I propose that DLC packs adding new characters to the game be released on a bi-weekly/monthly basis. each one adding 5-10 new characters until they've got everypony involved (by which point Season 2 will likely be in full swing if not already nearing an end, giving even more characters afterward!).
Maybe even themed packs, such as an "alter ego" download which gives you Sleepyjack, Pinkamena, Psychoshy, Rapidash Sparkle, Paranoid Dash, and, err...whatever the clever name is for Wallowing Rarity.
See? I can think of ideas! I just can't see them through myself.

From what I can tell, those fronthoof stomps appear to be a special move. The one stomp must be a light attack while the double-stomp is a stronger version.
Also I like the "snapback" kick, either a regular move exclusive to her (like forward + kick) or perhaps another special move. I'm throughly impressed with how the animators actually created the snapback animation with AJ hitting the side of the screen and then falling forward. Only the arc system games were able to use snapback animations so crisp.

Applejack in terms of fighting-game jargon would more than likely be a close melee fighter. Obviously being an earth pony she lacks much in long-range attacks (unless the creator decide to fashion her a buck-kick that sends apples as projectiles like she showed in Dragonshy), but obviously makes up for it with in-your face short-range melee combos.
She most certainly has little to no air combo ability, but makes it up with the fact that a very seasoned (or cheap) AJ player might spam corner-traping combos and whittle the opponent's health down.
Gee, am I a fighting game geek that obviously enthused with a game featuring PONIES? Not since MvC3 have I felt more enthused about a fighting game. That's the power of ponies for you.

it looks totally awesome! i think the characters when 2 of the same are out at the same time should be in dark colours so its kinda like they are evil copies. Kinda like giving it a mini non stated story, then luna's double would be nightmare moon xD of course then u would need to have an option of if u wanted to play the evil version or good one on the selection screen.

Why do I get the feeling that despite Twilight being the main character, Applejack is gonna be the one good for beginners? I can Twilight having problems with health and close range damage while Applejack (from the looks of the video) is good at rushdown. But still I can't wait for this to be finished, I am so gonna use Twilight!

I'm tempted to agree with Twilight's recolor being her G1 but I think Dewdrop Dazzle would be an even better choice, after all who doesn't love Dewdrop
At about 1:44 that attack reminds me of the one Pikachu does in SSB. The original at least, I haven't played the others much.
Some ideas I've been kicking around for super moves:
Applejack:
"Apple Family Reunion" -- AJ kicks you into the air and tons of random Apple clan members appear to beat you up in various ways, ranging from kicks and headbutts to pies in the face, culminating with Big Mac putting the smack down.
Pinkie Pie:
I'll just say the title is "Breaking the Fourth Wall" and leave it at that. See Deadpool's super attack from MvC3 for a general idea.
Pinkamina (a different fighter from Pinkie):
"Party of One" - Pinkamina disappears and her "friends" (Rocky, Madame LeFleur, and so on) appear to punch you back and forth a bit, each one obviously being manipulated by a pair of pink hooves from off screen.
Rarity:
"Destiny" - Rarity wraps you up in fabric to keep you still, then shouts, "Dumb rock!" and drops a boulder on you.
Fluttershy:
"Animal Friends" - Fluttershy runs off the side of the screen and screams, "YOU WILL LOVE ME!", then chases a stampede of fuzzy animals over her victim.
(The Stare is probably just a regular type special move, rather than a super attack.)
Rainbow Dash:
Eh, Sonic Rainboom is kinda the obvious choice, right? So mix it up. She grabs you, flies you high into the sky, then powerbombs you back into the ground at Rainboom speed!
Twilight:
"Spell Rage" - Her eyes go white and an aura of power flares out from her. You spend the next several seconds as a variety of inanimate objects (including a potted plant) before getting hurled into the sky.
No offense, but I did not expect the game to look THIS good. My mind has been blown. Keep up the excellent work.
Fluttershy ought to be a difficult one to program. Not just for combat, but keeping her in character. She just doesn't seem the type to fight.
However, as I'm experienced in playing these games, I have ideas for her to work around this complex.
-Fastest Dash Backwards. Fluttershy WOULD be the one to back out of a fight at any given moment.
-Short Dash Forward/Blind Dash. Either she would have a short dash forward or she would just shut her eyes and run, not stopping until the player presses a button. Receives damage if you run into a guard and damage the opponent a little if they aren't.

-You are going to LOVE ME!! Considerably a form change. Her attack patterns get faster, she can double jump, regular dashes, a much more competent fighter. However, it only lasts as long as what health has been taken. So if little health is gone, the form won't last for long.
-Really strong counters. We've seen Fluttershy erupt under pressure, so this attribute can fit on her counters. It'd be unfair if she can counter on a blocked hit, so she ought to be able to pull these off on the third or more blocked hit. Give them wall bounce qualities too.

I can think of only one thing that'd make this even more awesome then it already is..
.. if, upon completion, and with the blessing of Hasbro, they accept money for the game. But the money won't be for either of them. It would go to a children's charity, like Child's Play or the Make A Wish Foundation. So ponies could spread love and tolerance via fightin'.

And now I can't help but think we'll be seeing one of the ponies in the next Mortal Kombat game.
The twist would be that, when an opponent attempts to perform a Fatality on a pony, they suddenly hesitate when said cameo looks up pleadingly at the opponent, who then breaks down into tears and hugs said pony, thus performing a "Magic Friendship", similar to the "Heroic Brutalities" in MK VS DCU.
However, the cameo pony would be entirely free to perform a gory Fatality with a cutesy smile on her face...
+9001 internets if they make "Angry" Twilight Sparkle (in Rapidash mode) and/or Pinkamena Pie as a secret characters, and have a diamond dog as a dummy in training mode. Any fighting format like Street Fighter or Guilty Gear would be fine with me.
Also, would love to see people make M.U.G.E.N. formatted character files once this goes public... who doesn't want to see Applejack beat down Ryu? Or Fluttershy pwn Broly? Or Princess Celestia vs. Terumi from Blazblue (battle of the trolls ftw)!?
