• Story: Arddun Lleuad (Update: Sequel!)

[Adventure][Shipping] This is a controversial topic, but lets roll with it and see how it goes! It's really long, and he put a lot of work into it, so maybe we can let it slide this time?  In other words, have some HumanxLuna.

    Author: Pride
Description:  Chester Llewellyn was not prepared to fight for his very life on the alien planet that had suddenly become his reality, following a sickening experience that nearly tore him apart at the seams. Creatures of myth and legend hunt for his blood as he simply tries to survive, totally unaware of the Equestrian utopia not miles away.

But they are aware of him. Equestria is seeking Chester, enough to send the legendary war hero of Canterlot to personally track him down. His ravenous curiosity at the alien horse species, the brilliant tactics of his hunter, and the beasts of his forest-home that would tear him to pieces in a split second barely come close to the effect that the moon in the night sky has upon him, changing his world and his life completely.

And somewhere out there, at the tallest point of Equestria, somepony needs Chester, and fast.
A 30,000-word shipping epic, Arddun Lleuad attempts to combat the intense stigma of giving a human and a pony a meaningful, romantic relationship while providing a story that simply cannot be put down.

    Story 2
    [Adventure][Shipping]
    Description:
A fortnight on from the paradise-thwarting events of Arddun Lleuad, Chester Llewellyn and Mittens, his newly-befriended manticore, eke out a meagre survival in the Everfree Forest, to remain hidden from ponykind. What drives the former university student to do this, is the sudden, otherworldly bond that has united Chester and none other than Princess Luna herself in a soul-to-soul connection that they both find worth fighting for. Whilst secluding the human from the eyes of those who would find him and discover their shocking actions to keep him within Equestria, they must find and unravel the unseen, malefic intent of a foe they simply call the Enemy; they know nothing of him, nothing of his reasons or his intentions, only that he is capable of far more raw malevolence than anything Equestria has so much as seen before, and that they have done exactly as he has planned down to the letter.

But the Enemy is a far greater threat than either could ever realise. For the Enemy of which they speak is merely a seed, merely the beginning of an ungodly abomination from which nothing is safe. An abomination beyond the senses, beyond understanding, and beyond Chester and Luna to combat alone. Far, far more than simply their lives is at stake as events begin that signal the start of a new chapter in Equestrian history.

    1. We're sad for the lost of this author, for after this, we probably won't see him again due to issues with life. At the very least, let's send him off with a hug.

    3. Whoa. For the sequel, a 145MB zip file? You don't mess around.

    4. Yes! I was waiting for this for forever!

    5. Wait.. What in the name of
      A SEQUEL?!

      GOODNESS GRACIOUS!

I really didn't think this story would be one where a sequel would be possible, though... I'll have to give it a look...

    6. Ooh, I've heard about this one. And now there's a sequel? Better get reading.

    7. Is it weird that this makes me nostalgic?
I think I'm gonna wait 'till this one's done before reading it. These are definitely worth the wait.

    8. Or it might be done already, if the 145 MB download is any indication.

    9. I wish Pride would let us in on what's going on but... that's his choice.

I'm sure this is better than he thinks it is.

    11. FINALLY! This was the first fic I ever read. So excited to read this sequel. Curious to see if he did anything different with Luna after nightmare night.

    12. Glad to see this released. I REALLY hope it redeems the Luna of this story, cause That's still a sore point for me. I'll give this story a read. Your work on the first one was beautiful... Well, right up to that Luna's "common sense brain region just had a buckin' aneurism"

I hope the story is awesome...

Oh, that old stray I dubbed "mittens" never bothered my cat again BTW! LOL!!!

    13. Holy smokes, finally the second story! I really wonder how cannon Luna will affect the established character of Luna already, probably not. Too bad its really late right now, I'll probably reread the original and move into the second story tomorrow.

As I said on your dA, I hate to see you go. But I cheated and listened to the "Farewell" mp3 before reading the story and I (even more so) agree your doing the right thing.
Thank you for sharing these wonderful stories. Your a great person, I wish you the best in life.

    16. Man, it's such a shame that Pride left the fandom when he did.

If he hadn't left, I could've told him that this story has SHAPED my personal head-canon of Equestria forever.

    18. Hey all - I'm happy to report that Chwe Goleadau will be added to the Pony Fiction Archive as soon as I have the time. This will give everyone an online location to enjoy Pride's work if you don't have the desire or ability to download CG and read it locally. (Arddun Lleuad is already there.)

The catch there is "as soon as I have the time". I have a lot on my plate through the end of November, CG is fairly long as far as ponyfic goes, and has a lot of specialized formatting I'll want to get right. I'll post here when it's available at the PFA, but if you don't want to have to keep checking in here to see if it's up, follow my dA account, and I'll also post a journal entry when it's up.

If you don't want to wait, and also don't want to or are unwilling to download the "bonus" edition of CG Pride has linked to above (though I really recommend you do if you're able), I have put up a ZIP of the original Word doc and a PDF copy of the doc here (5MB).

    20. I've began a reposting of the story on Google Docs, which you can begin reading here. I'm currently up to chapter 4.

If you wish to be notified of new chapters, similar to RBDash's idea, follow my deviantART. You will be notified upon new chapters.

No offense, but Google Docs is a useless pile of tripe when you want to read text on a mobile device. FimFic and Fanfic.net both have the ability to be read on mobile devices. Even Deviant art does, though it's stupid files size restrictions on text make it hard to post large stories.

Google Docs is only useful as a cloud based editor, and it's only useful from a desktop. That makes it useless to me.

Just sayin'. I'd love to see this go up on a site that I can actually use when I'm on the go.

I'll probably just copypaste the lot of it from the DL and drop a raw text file into my own website in a hidden directory. It's what I did for Past Sins, and for Our First Steps.

Better than nothing... cause that's what Google Docs is... Nothing.

I used to whine like Rarity that Apple made Flash useless on iDevices... Leave it to Google to make TEXT useless on a majority of mobile devices. Thanks Google, for one upping Apple in the epic facehoof department!

Regardless of what other people think, thank you for re-posting the story somewhere where the rest of us can read it.

    27. Well, i wish to say that i couldn´t be happier with the ending, but it came to an end nonetheless and that makes me really sad. All the adventures of those two lovers came finally to a stop. I´m also very glad that he decided not to write a definite fate for Luna and Chester, but left it for us to decide, to imagine what will happen to them and to Equestria.

About the enemy, he was the representation of pure evil, and despite have said that he didn´t come quite as you wished, to me, i couldn´t portrait a better image for a villain as you did.

And i think, sicerely, that this tory deserves far more popularity then it has. Just because of the human/pony shipping it´s being neglected by many people. I tell the what: you don´t have the slightest idea of what you´re missing.

This is it, farewell to all the readers that are here to express their emotions after going through such amazing story of adventure, love, sadness, and, of course, good bye to our beloved autor that took his time to make his imagination become true in the shape of this icredible adventure.
I wish the best for you Pride, and i´ll aways carry the memories of AL and CG with me. I enjoyed every second of the reading.

      PS: @Soljer13 U jelly?

    28. @Didact

I'm appreciative that CitationNeeded is putting effort into trying to make this readable online, but I just question the accessibility and reliability of Google Docs.

I'm NOT trying to put down CitationNeeded's efforts, just the specific usability of Google Docs as a whole. Making that choice makes this story no more readable online than the big download for any users of Kindle, 3DS, all game console browsers, and many mobile phone browsers. Hoe is Google Docs an improvement, It only lets people avoid downloading the big file. Doesn't really change accessibility though, if Google Docs still ties you to the more sophisticated browsers of a PC.

I merely propose that there are multiple other resources that can be used to publish a story online that are widely accessible on multiple platforms, including mobile devices. If anything, I especially support FiMfic for the fact that it caters directly to the Friendship is Magic fan community, can at least be read on mobile devices, and has excellent rating, tracking, comments, and search capabilities enabled in more advanced browsers.

Google docs performs none of those functions... including WORKING AT ALL (well, when you're on certain mobile devices anyway).

I'm just saying, lets do this the right way.

Sorry for ranting about Google Docs, but whether a story is on Google Docs or not is usually the first thing I look at, even before rating. I don't always get the chance to sit down at home to read. I do get opportunities throughout my day though to read on my mobile device.

If I don't have the time to sit down and read at home, I WILL end up missing stories for the only crime of having been published on Google Docs.

I WANT to see the adoption of resources like FiMfic for this simple reason. FiMfic's features have proven to be so nice, that I am finding myself tracking or searching for stories on FiMfic directly, even skipping following them on EqD. If I particularly like a story, I might take the time to see if it's on EqD and rate or comment there, but I often have new chapters read long before EqD even posts due to their backlog.

Most of all, I enjoy using FiMfic because, you know... It works on my mobile device.

Again, thanks CitationNeeded for trying to make this more accessible, but still gotta put my doubts in Google Docs.

      so sick of this:

    29. I'd never heard of Arddun Lleuad before seeing the update for "Story 2". On a whim, I started reading Arddun Lleuad, and I almost closed it when I read the first reference to Star Trek. "Is this guy serious? a handsome, mysterious, super-genius ladies' man who's also a huge Trekkie?" My "Gary Sue"-dar was blaring, but against my better judgement, I gave it a chance. Am I ever glad that I kept reading... I enjoyed it thoroughly. It took me a LOT of hours to read Chwe Goleadau (which I initially expected to be a 15-minute teaser/intro...) and holy shit, what a story. I'm not sure what caused you to cut ties with the community, but thank you for sharing your work with us.

Can your mobile device handle Word docs or PDF? Here's the original Word doc and a PDF copy of it.

Otherwise, it'll be up on the PFA in a few weeks, and you can follow my dA for notification.

I genuinely think it's too bad your mobile device's browser can't handle Google Docs - the interfaces for the various Google Web Apps in mobile Safari is great, but I see what you mean when I try to load it up in Opera Mini. Feels bad, brony!

    31. I just finished reading Chwe Goleadau. Oh dear, I don't even know what to say.
I really enjoyed Arddun Lleuad, so when I read, that there was a sequel coming, I was simply hooked. It didn't hold for long when I read, that it would not be released. So the joy I felt when I saw an update on it's article on Equestria Daily was undescribable. I was litteraly bouncing up and down shouting yay over and over, or so I think.

When I first read that the 'final' version was in fact a track draft, I didn't know what to think. I was however very grateful that the author decided to release his story, although 'unfinished', after all. It surely would have been a great disappointment, not only to the readers but also to the author himself, the one who put so much effort into this story, to let it be unfinished.
      I was not disappointed.
I enjoyed every chapter, every single line of this story. There were several parts that really stood out. Chester's dream where he was a pirate, or the part where Chester was battling Praetor. I must admit in hindsight I was a little disappointed that he only played such a minor role in the story, the parts about his past were especially promising plus we may never now his true name.
The stoy also had a very well laid arc of suspense. I really wanted to know what happened next and after I read the whole story I was strangely pleased. To put it simply: the story fullfilled my all my expectations.

But to be honest, I felt a little sad after reading through and listening to your final message, though not as sad as I imagined I would be. Against all odds you faced you still managed to complete this story. You may call it a raw draft but it's a completely fine and completed story in my opinion.
You should be proud of yourself.

As a reader I want to thank you for delighting us with these two wonderful pieces of fiction. I am normally not someone who comments on fanfics, I would have never even imagened to sit here and write such a long text. I somehow feel obliged to do this, that's quite an achievement of you.

I am writing this in the vain hope that you may read it, and I also wish you luck in your life.
You have a wonderful talent and your wife should appreciate it.

    34. I must say that it is rare for me to find a story that gets me feeling like this. This is a good story, it's well written and you should read it.

      However, I unfortunetly hate it.

Excellent story, just happen to hate it.

    35. *Listen to parts of ''Farewell.mp3''* ... ? wow ?

Awkwaaaaaard... the only thing/word that comes to my mind. That, and 'he takes things WAAAAAYYYY too seriously ?'.

      *.docx ? Convert to *.doc : http://www.doc.investintech.com/

Almost 200pages ?! ...should have released it in parts/chapters, that would have been surely MUCH easier to read... and do, me think.
Less taxing on the writer and the reader, for a story of such LARGE length.

...I may read it one day, maybe.

(Last note : *Boot to the Head*, extra-large with spikes and Onions!, for the desire to make a villain worst than *the-story-that-shall-not-be-named*)

    38. I just finished reading the story, and I have to say, it wasn't what I thought it was going to be. I really liked Chester's character and how he interacted with Equestria's inhabitans, especially Fluttershy (I may have laughed for about 5 minutes after the cottage scene). But the one thing that turned me off after I finished reading was the relationship between Luna and Chester. Entirely disregarding the species barrier problem, I couldn't bring myself to believe that the relationship was meaningful.
I believe that love is something that needs to be developed with time and effort, and can't be dropped into someones lap, or in this case, planted into someone's mind by a wayward spell only to be activated as soon as the man sees the moon, or touches Luna's cheek. There was no foundation for the relationship. The 'thousand years of memory absorbed in 5 seconds' feels like a cop out. I won't deny that he was in love, but the the method of arrival at that was what bugged me. it just became a sadfic to me by the end, as I watched Chester lose his free will to an emotion that was the result of a massive mistake, and became willing to abandon his family and home to serve a mare who essentially, albeit accidentally, brainwashed him.

There are great parts, but it is really only sketch, not story. And the ending... It sucks.

    44. damn... I don't even... Finally read both, didn't even know they existed until the flashback post. Both of these were incredible stories. You truly made me hate the main villain. Your OC's were brilliantly characterized. Everything was amazing. I kind've wish we could've seen more of Chester after he learned magic though. I'm sad to see you leave, as I'm sure the next sequel would've been amazing.

    45. Pride, apparently your DeviantArt has been deactivated, but I hope you still get the chance to read this at some point.
This story was worth more to me than all the rest of My Little Pony put together. I stayed up late reading it because I couldn’t conceive of stopping and lie awake the rest of the night with a sweet ache in my soul.
This story has changed my psyche; possibly my life. If there was any justice in the world this would be a movie pronto, but as your Welsh pen has so elegantly pointed out, we do not quite live in a just world. You’ve also invalidated my last few years of effort by putting nearly all of my work as a storyteller to pointless shame. Good for you. I shall train harder.

You may not care for the fawning…but I needed to say this.
