Actually, that sentry production isn't the worst metaphor I've heard.
ReplyDeleteAperature science turrets are mass-produced, have limitations that Sentries don't have (Like spotting targets above or behind, or firing rockets), but generally do their job adequately. But they also are completely useless if you turn off quality control, giving a great number of turrets that don't fire at all.
Whereas a Sentry takes a lot of hard work for just one, but you can make them faster with a little teamwork.

I'm coming off a really bad headache, so I'm be really brief with this one. As is always the case, a great blend of amazing, funny, and just plain adorable. The two with Rainbow and Fluttershy wielding weapons (13/14) do look pretty awesome. I also like the one where Twilight is resting her head on the table kinda looking at her drink (#8). Then there's #27, where Spitfire is racing against that Shadowbolt. Looks like quite the epic race. Anyway, that's it for now. So sorry I was brief with this one. All of them were really great pics.

It seems like every Drawfriend turns into a battle between those who like and dislike 'saucy' art. I don't care for the saucy art myself, but I for one find hiding the picture behind a link to be a nice, civil compromise, and yet some of you continue to bitch and moan about being "censored". Surely you all are not so dense as to understand why some people may not want to see that shit. Why are so many of you still adverse to hiding questionable art behind a link? And why does Seth continue to not put art behind a link that he knows will cause a shitstorm? You would think that after over 300 of these, he would have learned his lesson by now.

ReplyDeletePeople generally appear to have their priorities messed up. I prefer "saucy" plots over violent and gory plots any day. It shows just how weird we are when images that imply love and a future have to be censored or hidden while images that imply death, hatred and mayhem get prominent display. Neither should be censored. Let love conquer all.

No one's been calling for #7, #16, or #25 to be removed or hidden behind a link. The difference between those images, and a blatant pin-up like #9, should be obvious.
(OK, just what the hay is going on here? I posted this comment last night, then loaded the Drawfriend in a new tab to make sure my post made it through, and it still disappeared at some point last night. >.< Anyway, late though it is, and without bothering to change anything...)
ReplyDelete#1: I've never played the video game(s) being referenced, but the meaning of the drawing is still crystal clear; great job by the artist with expressions and body language.
#4: Another nicely-made propaganda poster.
#7: They just better watch out if Derpy decides to start jumping on that cloud... I'm not normally a shipping fan, but pics that are cute and silly in equal measure usually get a pass from me. :)
#8: I know the feeling, Twilight. Great use of back lighting in this drawing.
#9: Surfing Spitfire is hidden as 'saucy', but made Spitfire passes? o.O
#10: Nicely dramatic drawing of Rainbow Dash; again, excellent color and lighting.
#12: I'm not sure what's going on here, but I can't argue with a crab in a fez.
#13: A bit of a misquote of Rowdy Roddy Piper's line from "They Live", and I think, in keeping with the equine theme, "kick flank" would have been a better phrase, but it's still an amusing drawing.
#15: Love the ridiculously-bright colors and the unusual pose, leading to the foreshortening of Dash's front right leg.
#18: Baby Discord is surprisingly cute, but the true highlight of this drawing is the poses and expressions chosen by the artist.
#19: I think I know Phoe's favorite drawing of the night...
#22: Pics of Applejack kicking back after a hard day's work never get old, and it looks like she's saved the hard cider for herself. Love the sunset coloring.
#27: Great action shot of Spitfire racing a Shadowbolt (I had to check the artist's comments to make sure Soarin' hadn't gone over to the other side); the colors are terrific.
#31: I really like the bright colors and original pose and wings in this drawing.
Note: the following are reasons why Engineer's turrets are better, not comments for each pic.
ReplyDelete1) They shoot first and ask questions later. None of this, "Are you still there?" nonsense. In fact, they never ask questions... they know when you are a target... and they don't give you the benefit of knowing that they saw you!
2) Their caliber is more than that of the Aperture Science caliber due to the latter needing to be thrifty. Engineer's bullets must meet real combat requirements. Ultimately, while Aperture uses 65% more bullet by using the whole bullet, RED and BLU use over 100% more bullet per bullet.
3) Engineer turrets have greater accuracy, range, coverage, stopping power, and damage output... especially when they have rockets.
4) It is a proven fact that people don't give a damn how pretty a Mac looks... ultimately it is too expensive and not very customizable. While a nice office decoration, the Aperture Science Sentry Turret costs more. An Engineer turret only costs scrap metal to build AND upgrade into a beast. Look who's the one playing all the hardcore games NOW?
5) Aperture Science is run by a homicidal maniac of an A.I. BLU and RED are run by real people. Who can you trust better?
6) A.S. turrets sound like they're skipping stones at you. Engineer's turrets sound like they're shooting at you.
Feel free to add the the list! (Btw, before hearing objections to #4, I AM a Mac fan.)

There is implied violence in the turret guns in #1; #5: Thor is a god of war; #12: Rarity has a gun; #13: Rainbow Dash has a smoking handgun; #14: Fluttershy is a sniper; #30: Pinki Pie and the Ursa Major do not seem to be on the verge of a peaceful resolution. (In #20 the Apple family is quite angry, but that does not imply a love of violence and deadly toys.)
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised you asked. There are more images here implying willingness to do grievious bodily harm than there are images implying willingness to make more ponies. We are just fortunate that, as much as we as a society applaud violence, when the lights go out, more people are into groping than into gunning. The people in this world are CRAZY!
