That is actually pretty surprising.  Were you all just so bored over the summer that you decided to give pony a shot?  I'm really curious what drew you all in when season two wasn't even actually happening.

    2. Also, 1ups for joining in spring time!

    3. *hit*

I joined when the Escapist published an article on a ton of Pony PMVs... which wasn't until the summer. Perfect time to join. You can watch all of season 1 without interruption and have time to digest it all just enough to drool over Season 2

    4. Yeah, I was bored, and had been hearing about MLP for a while (mostly through memebase) and decided "What the heck? I've got more free time than I know what to do with, and I'd like to actually understand these jokes people keep making. Let's go ahead and watch."

2 days and 26 episodes later, I was hooke.

    5. I'll admit that it started as morbid curiosity, and that I had very little to do during summer break.

    6. In my case? Summer is when the really good art started to catch my attention. After a month or so, I finally got curious enough to check it out. I would bet I'm not alone, which would make it sort of a self-reinforcing trend, the growing fanbase leading to more fans, leading to... Not too surprising then.

    7. the first thing i heard about Ponies was a topic about Pony 34. <____<

    8. I joined once I got sick of being on /b/ with all the summerfags all the time. I seriously used to think ponies were cancer. Oh, how I have learned since then. Brony for Life.

    9. I came into the show around the end of season 1 ( I believe green isn't your color was the current one out ) sometime March.

Two of the message boards I frequent got hit with pony topics at the same time. At the time I had no idea what the heck it was about lol. Then I saw people I thought were awesome talk good about the show and gave it a shot.

      Now here I am!

    10. I had known of the new show for a while. In February, CR of TGWTG did a 5 second video of Pinkie Pie. I knew then, that the cartoon was legitimate and needed to be watched.

    11. Had a friend tell me he was watching ponies (he wasn't quite converted yet)

    13. I joined right after I read cupcakes in June. Yes, cupcakes was my first experience with the fandom...

      ReplyDelete
    14. I guess this means we can only expect a lot more to join next June between season 2 and 3.

      ReplyDelete
    15. Started in March, right around the time Over A Barrel aired.

    16. August for me. I kept across references on Memebase, and they were funny enough without me watching the show. But I watched it anyway when I finished finals for the summer semester and I was hooked.

      ReplyDelete
    17. I didn't know about the pony fandom until I saw it on Memebase In late June. A few days later I decided to give it a shot because I am extremely curious. Within the first three days of watching the first episode I had seen every episode and joined the herd.

    18. What really happened with me was that I went to college in July, made some friends, and was introduced to MLP by one of them. Since then we have been spreading like a virus.

      ReplyDelete
    19. which, since it's a SFW site, there was no actual 34, luckily.

    20. Yeah, it was just coming off of April, I was done with school, bored, and saw ponies everywhere. Watched Season 1 over the weekend and was hooked.

    21. To the 540 bronies who were here since the beginning: I salute thee, for you are truly something.

    22. Gah I miss clicked, I was in July :) I suddenly feel hipster haha

      ReplyDelete
    23. I resisted until around August. Then I kinda just shotgunned the episodes, and I am still in a daze about the whole thing.

      ReplyDelete
    24. "hay! remember when we were all hipsterish and cool"

      That time is now

    25. Knew about ponies about the beginning of summer didn't like them at all. One night Somepony said that most people that don't like it Have not seen it so I thought "why not?" and so yeah now I'm here and I can't live without ponies :D

      ReplyDelete
    26. I gave into peer pressure from friends. I only learned about it in May but I was focusing on graduating high school before I got myself into watching pony episodes.

      ReplyDelete
    27. I got in the fandom in August. I was away working at camp over the summer and was lacking of internet. I actually got in it because my friend changed his steam pic to fluttershy and I was curious to what it was. After a week of believing the show was stupid and for little girls, I became one of us.

      ReplyDelete
    28. I joined when my family moved in with my parents for a while...the Hub had some episodes on demand, and I put them on for my two-year-old. When we moved out again, I downloaded the season and found we both loved the show.

      ReplyDelete
    29. I hit it up in February, because I was sooooo bored and I didn't want to think about exams, and pony was everywhere on /co and a few other places, so I said I would see what they were going on about.

First 2 , whatever. next 3 hmmm I'm actually giggling. next 10, WTF why did I..? Oh fuck it I like ponies now, and then I watched the rest.

That was before green isn't your color, and then I started reading fics; guess what my 4th one was...

    30. Depression. Lauren Faust pulled me out of my slump. I owe her and The Mane6 more than I can ever repay.

      ReplyDelete
    31. Joined in May. I knew about it back in February and gave it shot, but I never hugely got into it. I partially blame that all of my hype and excitement was pouring into the English release of Pokemon Black and White that I just couldn't get interested in anything else at that moment.

      ReplyDelete
    32. I decided to watch it last Summer, all bored and with a bunch of free time, after seeing one too many pony-related threads on GameFAQs.

And then I was a brony. And it was amazing. :D

      ReplyDelete
    33. I joined in April solely due to a minecraft pixel art on a server. Surprisingly I had never heard anything about ponies up until that point.

      ReplyDelete
    34. I'll bet it had to do with the increase in fan content during the drought. If not for VG Cats, I wouldn't have come until then either since that's when Krobo started making pony YouTube Poops.

    35. yay nobody said first this post!!!

    36. Joined in late summer, due to seeing Pony Craft 2. Started looking up other funny videos on u tube, then got to wondering. If the videos are so funny, whats the actually show like. So, one day I checked them out. And have not looked back since. Ponies? Y U So cool?

      ReplyDelete
    37. Honestly? I got laid off work in August and suddenly had a massive influx of free time. I had heard about MLP from El Goonish Shive and figured 'Eh, worth a shot.'

Totally worth a shot. Totally worth a shot BIG TIME.

    39. I was briefly aware of FiM when it premiered and watched about half of the pilot on youtube. At the time my thought was "well nice to see some good cartoons for kids these days, but I don't feel the need to see more"
It wasn't until about may after I graduated and started work that I started seeing and eplosion of pmvs and art and other pony memes and then I decided "hmm.. maybe there's something to this.
      And I haven't looked back since :D
Honestly, I love the fan content more than the show itself.

    41. Saw that Ponycraft 2 thing around the time it came out (march-april?), got curious, two days later and 21 episodes (the current count at that time) was definitely hooked.

Funny thing is i don't remember how i found Equestria Daily... i really don't.

    42. I think I got here through 4chan -> ED -> Know Your Meme -> here...
Who'd have thought I get trapped into this

      ReplyDelete
    43. I joined something in August... maybe even late July. Checking out memebase and Bam! Brony category. AND I NEVER LOOKED BACK. Between PMV's, original music, fanfiction and the show itself... never a lack of pony content. Watched all the episodes of season one in three days.

      Wish I'd joined earlier.

    44. *Flips table*
      We're over-run with summerfags!
*storms out of the room exaggeratedly*

Just kidding, always nice having new fans of the show join the party every week.

I joined the fandom mid-February, not long before the pony-wars on 4chan, in fact. It was that act of retard that made me drop visiting 4chan like the piece of crap it was and start lurking elsewhere. I ended up lurking here, since the pony boards never took my fancy.

      ReplyDelete
    45. Free time, and had been hearing about it various places. The main thing that got me to actually watch it was reading the wiki page for it Screened.com (A TV & Movie News/Review site). Something about it just made the show seem awesome so I ran through all the episodes in like... a week.

      ReplyDelete
    46. I missed all of season 1, probably because I wasn't frequenting 4chan and the like and don't have cable. It wasn't until KYM picked it up and put up the bronies.membase.com site that I was introduced to it. Of course I now come here for my daily dose of pony.

    47. July here. I was watching a youtube poop which used FIM as it's source and I thought the show looked good enough to be watched in it's unedited form.

I was right. It amazed me and I felt no initial resistance. I was hooked from the get go and I watched the whole season in about 2 days. Then I watched it again. lol.

      ReplyDelete
    48. Buddy of mine posted something on facebook and I told him NEVER! Then, when I had my wisdom teeth out I gave it a chance. After episode 3 I was hooked:) My buddy still can't believe I caved. My family blames it on the painkillers I was taking after my teeth were pulled.

    49. My first exposure to the show was in January, my first episode was in March, but I answered August in the poll because that's when I became a brony.

    51. I fell for Ponies in April.

Although I started to take notice to them somewhere in March. Took me about a month to finally give in into them.

      I have no regrets.

    52. I joined exactly a week after ep 26 aired. kinda funny.

      ReplyDelete
    53. July 5th, Reddit mentioned its writers, I gave it a shot, I kept watching out of curiosity, here I am now, derp.

      ReplyDelete
    54. Mid-early June, I saw some pony memes on memebase. On the 12th, I watched the pilots and had to watch the third to see if that story line would continue. Brony ever since

      ReplyDelete
    55. My vote was for August(early August).
I first saw the new toys where I work. Remember thinking to myself, "lol, they are remaking MLP?" Saw a few pony threads on 4chan but didn't peak my curiosity enough to watch the show. (Although, I did save a Luna art pic cause I thought it was cute) What really got me into the show was when I saw "Avast Fluttershy's Ass" in the youtube suggested videos. That led me to the Cutie Mark Crusader talent show clip. Then to the clip where Twilight meets Fluttershy. After realizing I was actually liking this stuff I finally broke and watched episode 1. Guess I can blame it all on Fluttershy and her dangerous level of adorableness.

      ReplyDelete
    56. the first pony video I watched was PonyCraft 2. I thought it was such and adorable art style what can I say. A few days later I was still obsessing over how cute that little dragon thing (spike, I dident know his name yet)was. So I gave the show a try by watching it on Youtube. And thus, my obsession was born.

    57. I imagine there was a burst in summer from all the people looking for things to do, still its nice for popularity.

      ReplyDelete
    58. Technically speaking, I've been following the show since about a week after the pilot aired. But I was unaware of the fandom building around it until almost the season finale. Then I saw the fanart, the stories, the threads, the fansites, the blogs and articles, etc.

Shows are a lot easier to discuss when they already have a full season behind them, I feel. When you know you have a good feel for the characters and the show's style, it's much more productive to look at the show in hindsight.

      ReplyDelete
    59. My sister was off for the summer and she made me watch the show, ended up LOVING it. I had NO idea there even was a brony community out there

      ReplyDelete
    60. I knew about the ponies through babysitting by little cousin a few times a week from way back at the beginning of the show. I know it was fall a year ago that I was first given a serious run-down of many Pony names (Pinkie Pie stood out from day 1 as being especially ridiculous) as various bits of colored plastic were proudly displayed to me.

It wasn't until much later though, after I was aware of a growing Pony presence on the web, that I began calling up YouTube videos on my Ipad to entertain her. Even then, it was usually so that she'd stay quiet and I could focus on something else.

Then, over the summer, I had an art assignment that called for a simple, stylized background look. I recalled the look of the show as being really sharp in that regards, so I pulled up some episodes to look at. I ended up watching the entire season over about 2-3 days as I worked.

Didn't actually end up using much of the show's style after all, but it sure kept me entertained while I drew.

      ReplyDelete
    61. I jumped on the bandwagon in May. That just happened to be when I saw a thread on the escapist forums asking what the deal with all the ponies was. There were some very convincing endorsements in the responses.

      ReplyDelete
    62. Over the summer I was watching alot of YouTube videos, and of corse inevitably I came across some MLP YouTube Poop, and I loved it.

However, rather suprisingly, I didn't realise Bronies existed for a long time. When I discovered, I thought: "Things don't gain such a fanbase by not being awesome". So I gave it a try, watched the first two episodes, loved it, watched the rest of the season, and soon after - like many others - discovered EQD, and now I am become a dedicated Brony :D

Dispite being a newer Brony, I know quite alot of the memes, have read a couple fanfics (and am racking up a long list of fics I still have yet to read), and enjoyed lots of fanart. I love this community.

      ReplyDelete
    63. @Smokey Treble

I think I saw that same exact thread, lol.

      ReplyDelete
    64. I heard about Ponies in November and dismissed it.

Then I went to Anime North in Toronto in May and saw this guy walking around: http://fellowhumanoid.tumblr.com/post/6711615377/noonebutrainbowdash-steveholtvstheuniverse

      Then I saw this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJfZTr8zMsc

So, naturally, I had to cave and finally give this show a chance. Powered through the first season in three days in June.

Then I dressed up as Vinyl Scratch for Fan Expo in Toronto and got to hang out with "ManBow Dash" and his Pony Posse all weekend. He's a really chill guy. Here's a photo of all of us: http://i.imgur.com/QuSIJh.jpg

    65. Would jumping on the wagon mean watching all the episodes? then it was September. If not, then June.

      Im pathetic, I know

      ReplyDelete
    66. I joined in June. I was just bored on youtube one day, and saw an advertisement for a new MLP series. My first thought was, "Well, guess I have to show this to my sister (she's 5)," so I pulled up the pilot. I felt obligated to watch it with her, or she asked me to, I don't remember which. But after I saw the pilot, I realized that this version was not mind-stabbingly horrible.

Afterwards, while lurking about on the interwebs, I began seeing products of the fandom. I'm a sucker for funny image macros, so as soon as i saw the "I'm gonna love and tolerate the SHIT outta you" image, I new there was more to this series.

I finally came to grips with my fascination with technicolor equines through the Minecraft forums. I noticed there was a MLP FIM dedicated forum there, and they in turn linked me to EqD. At that point, I was completely and utterly hooked. And I have not regretted it since.

I think there was about 2 weeks between first witnessing the pilot and realizing my ...obsession XD.

      ReplyDelete
    67. It was August when the MLP thread popped up on Team Liquid and I was introduced to the Starcraft pony parodies. I was bored out of my mind and didn't want to do AP work so I watched the first episode. It only took about 5 minutes for me to be hooked.

      ReplyDelete
    68. Oh, and of course like many working in creative fields, it was Rarity's plight in Suited for Success that won me over completely. I remember telling family and friends "I just watched a show about a pony making dresses, and I could so totally relate to it."

      ReplyDelete
    69. February the same weekend Feeling Pinkie Keen Aired. Wish I could have been here from the start.

    70. It was actually the YTPMVs and YTPs that made me watch MLP. I remember watching sgtscrubnoob's ytpmvs and dikekike's ytps before i watched the episode of it.

      ReplyDelete
    71. I started liking it in mid-March, because I remember it was the day Green Isn't Your Color came out. I was on /b/ and it was one of the multiple times I had seen a pony thread. I wanted to know what it was all about, so I found out what show it was and watched GIYC, and didn't really like it. The next day I gave it another try, but from the first episode, and here I am.

      ReplyDelete
    72. I think a pretty big reason a lot of bronies (including me) got inducted in June and July was because that was when pony mania really started to branch out. I had noticed it before on 4chan, but thought it was just another stupid meme that would die out soon. By June, I couldn't ignore them anymore. They were fuckin EVERYWHERE.
So, after learning who was behind the show (I adore Powerpuff Girls, Fosters, and My Life As a Teenage Robot) I watched it.
And have been watching it ever since.

      ReplyDelete
    73. Saw MLP popping up all over the place one I was able to once again obtain internet connection after doing without for a few months. Got curious and decided to look into it. After watching nothing but anime for past three years because cartoon network is an utter disappointment now, MLP was something different for once. I recently found out that because of MLP, I regained my passion for drawing. My drawing dairy hasn't been used in over three years. The first thing in three years I put into it was an MLP based drawing.

      ReplyDelete
    74. I joined in august. Always adore cartoons but I never saw hub on my TV. My boy's girlfriend told me about it and I had to check it out because I adore good cartoons. I was hooked instantly.

    75. Nothing to do with the season, in my case. Pony had reached a saturation level on Fur Affinity and among my local friends—at least two of whom spoke well of it. One of those friends subjected a captive audience, including me, to the first episode. I fought a rearguard action all the way, but eventually I was overwhelmed and joined The Body.

      ReplyDelete
    76. I joined about the same time the episode "Over a Barrel" aired. So sometime late march. I learned of mlp from a friend of mine on youtube. He started fav'ing pmv's, and I followed suit. Eventually, that led to me watching all the episodes that were currently out at the time. Now I can't get enough pony!!!

      ReplyDelete
    77. I started simply because I was seeing ponies all over Memebase. I have a strange trust for the internet so I knew I'd like ponies as soon as I gave them a try.

      ReplyDelete
    78. I joined in April.

The first thing I saw from the fandom was actually a D&D Alignment chart using Google Image Search (seen here: http://www.equestriadaily.com/2011/01/pony-alignment-chart.html )

At first, I had no clue that was even My Little Pony. I just thought it was some other Flash cartoon, lol.

      ReplyDelete
    79. A bunch of people were talking about it in the Extralives IRC, so I decided to give it a try.

      ReplyDelete
    80. Dikekike got me into it lol. I saw it enough, and decided to watch it in the correct context. Perfect time to start, quiet June nights with no school. Ah~~~

I was on EqD back when we had a huge celebration everytime we broke the million view count marks. We had comics made just for the occasion, there were banners, count downs, and cake for everyone.

Now we hit 40 mil and don't even blink an eye.

Come to think of it, it is interesting how even though, statistically, at least 1/2 of all bronies joined after S1 ended, nearly all the "big names" in the fandom came at the start. 8 months ago the fandom was a mere fraction of what it is now, but we had Madmax, Eurobeat Brony, WoodenToaster, Notacleverpony, etc.

      ReplyDelete
    83. I started watching in July. A few of my friends had been telling me about the show for months but i didn't have a lot of free time to watch anything up till then. by that point i just thought, why not? i was hooked in no time lol. kinda wish i had had more time to look at it earlier

      ReplyDelete
    84. I joined during the last week of March (I remember because Over a Barrel was the last episode to air, and there wouldn't be a new one that week because of April 1 or something). While I had seen a couple of references around the Internet, I didn't give it much thought until someone mentioned it in the comments on the webcomic Precocious. The quote that caught my attention was one telling someone else who didn't watch the show to check it out because it was "the manliest show on television". That struck me as odd, so I decided to check it out, and now here I am.

      ReplyDelete
    85. Oh wow... I remember when it felt really late coming into the fandom in April. I saw the KnowYourMeme article over spring break and had the first 22 episodes watched within a week.

      ReplyDelete
    86. I can't remember EXACTLY when, but I do believe it was around April. So I chose that. One of the most fightingest guys I know was posting pony like no one's business, so I found a torrent of the Season 1 2-parter and it was off to the races.

I paused for a little while after that to let it sink in (and made much Dummy Bears comparisons. Anyone remember Rugrats), but after a friend showed me a video of Flutterguy singing, I went and found the rest of the episodes. I think my first new episode was Sonic Rainboom.

    89. I joined in March when I saw a Smosh pit video link to WOW ponies... I told a friend about it, who looked into bronies, who got me hooked.

    92. A friend over at a Star Trek message board, back in June sometime, starting posting ponies. Some of us were curious, so he posted a link to the episodes on Youtube. It took me less than a minute to be interested, and approximately 2 whole episodes to be hooked. I'm a proud Brony. :D

      ReplyDelete
    93. Came in during June. I remember everyone of my internet-based friends at school loved it, so I decided to give it a shot.

      ReplyDelete
    94. School, man. No hub where I go to school, so I didn't know much about the show. I saw over a barrel for break, and party of one when I finished finals. POO got me hooked, so naturally, I saw the rest within a week

      ReplyDelete
    95. I joined in April-ish... a week or so prior to Cutie Mark Chronicles, because that I remember that was the first "new" episode I saw. I'd been recommended MLP for some time on a forum I was going to, and finally gave it a shot after seeing the fantastic Dr. Horrible PMVs.

      ReplyDelete
    96. you got it right exactly in my case, in my case it took 9 episode to really get hooked, I saw an episode much earlier but it wasn't until July during my unemployed summer that I decided to check out more pony episodes

      ReplyDelete
    97. i joined when i just got done blowing things up since it was the 4th of July. i went on youtube and i came across a couple pmv's then i suddenly didn't have the urge to blow shit up.

      3 days 26 episodes later

      hooked ever since

      no regrets.

    98. I think it was August-ish (Dude, am I really that new? O.o) and I read the TVtropes page for it 'cause my sister was talking about bronies, so I decided to go watch an episode. Which turned into two episodes. Into three...

      ReplyDelete
    99. I joined when i was stuck in Maine for a week with nothing to do except surf the web on my laptop. One night I came across some video and thought "you know what? there must be something to this show, let me give it a shot." and i've never looked back. I am so happy I gave this show a chance when I did. This is the best fandom ever!

      ReplyDelete
    100. Actually, I joined in march after the 4chan wars. I was like "GOD, WTF IS UP WITH THESE PONIES MAKING EVERYONE RAGE?" So I watched and got hooked. The next day in school I ran up to me group screaming "Omg, you'll never believe it! I watched My Little Pony, and it was awesome!" Eeeeyup! XD

      ReplyDelete
    101. I actually got into it around mid May. Ponies > School Finals

      ReplyDelete
    102. Representing May.

I'd heard of the fandom long before I actually joined. Saw the article on KYM, tried watching the first episode; got halfway through before I ventured to another corner of the internets. Then I saw some hilarious YTPMV's and decided to torrent the whole first season. Watched it all in two days. No one converted me; I converted myself, though I have converted three now. Never once regretted it.

      ReplyDelete
    103. I became a brony in the summer, I got into it because I watch my 2 year old niece for my brother, after watching 1-2 episodes I ended up buying season 1 on iTunes and watched the entire season.

    104. Actually, my friend bribed me to watch it, and he said if I didn't like it, he'd give me twenty bucks, I never got that twenty dollars...

      ReplyDelete
    105. I joined in because of a friend and the endless PMV's and the Ticket Master episode he showed me around May when he came to visit, at first I just got annoyed by the whole thing, but today I thank him at every chance I have for showing me the awesomeness that ponies are

    106. well it was mid WINTER here in australia, so i stayed inside all day browsing teh interwebz. there was a huge surge of pony stuff on memebase and after a couple weeks i decided to see what all the fuss was about.

i'd watched the whole season 1 in about 3 nights.
      I REGRET NOTHING

      ReplyDelete
    109. During the summer, Episode 1 (Only the first part of the pilot) was free on iTunes. I had to watch more since I was left on a cliffhanger and said what the hell and downloaded the rest of the season while I was at it.

      ReplyDelete
    110. First of all, no one could have joined the fandom in October considering there was no fandom then. Maybe they thought the question was when you started watching it? Anyways, I first heard about it in February when I was a giant /b/tard (Yes, I'm ashamed of myself). I never thought it was cancer or anything, just ignored the threads. After seeing tons of threads, I was just like "What the hell." And openly starting watching in February as well. No one had to convince me to watch it and I was never mad that I liked it. But it wasn't until April that I started joining in on the fandom. I knew about PonyChan and EQD, but I just didn't bother. All I did was watch the show. Then when I started coming on here, it instantly became my homepage (Still is) and now you literally can't go on my computer without seeing pony. Like my User account picture is Dashie.

      ReplyDelete
    111. on march started seeing a LOT of tf2 pony sprays and avatars and wondered what the hell it was all about on April I think (can't remember exact month) I watched 1 episode to see what all the fuzz was about and since I knew that Lauren Faust was behind I was intrigued, I watched feelin pinkie keen and said "I guess I can see why people like it but its freaking mlp no way Im watching the rest" (silly me)

like half a month after or something while playing some more TF2 on a server I frequent one guy that was complaining about mlp back were I watched the episode said something like "hey /abronieontheserver/ did you watched the last episode it was great" and I though, wait didn't that dude didn't like the show before?

then on June when my university went uum on strike? I guess (Chile student movement and all yadda yadda) I was bored with 3 weeks of not having classes and nothing to do at all and not being the very social person that I am (I don't go out often) I said:well Im bored I've watched stuff that I've wanted to watch for a while (Grave of the fireflies and "now and then here and there") not very happy "shows/movie", I wanted to check something that could potentially make me laugh and something that wasn't so overly depressing, sad and horrible (not horrible as in bad but horrible in how depressing it is) since feelin pinkie keen was good and i laughed with it I though why not the whole season of mlp now that its over? after all if THAT guy changed his opinion then it can't be that bad does it?

and now Im here waiting for the rest of season 2 who would've though

      ReplyDelete
    112. I learned about ponies when my mom emailed me the pony physics presentation at the beginning of summer and was like 'Thats awesome." But never watched the show. I was bored and couldn't sleep one night so I went on the Youtubes and watched an episode... then another... And another... Before I knew it it was morning and I was smelling pancakes. The rest of the week I survived on power naps and snacks rather that full meals. That was July if I remember right.

      ReplyDelete
    113. @Smokey Treble

Maybe, I can't remember, lol. It probably was, but that isn't where I watched the show. I found a place linked somewhere with links to every episode in 1080p. After I decided to watch the show, the rest was history, :D

      ReplyDelete
    114. It begins in early August. Heard talk about the show, and had just finished Portal 2. Then I stumbled upon this PMV http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vPICZDIqY_g while looking for Portal AMVs.
I thought 'Is that a cute pony nerd there with the science and the magic?'. So I watched the first episode.. then all the rest of them. I wanted more pony, so I looked up crossover fics on TVtropes, found Better living through ponies and science, found other fics which led me to Equestria Daily, where I first found out about this 'Brony' community, which had apparently exploded over the internet under my nose.

With the cool artworks, excellent fiction(Fallout:Equestria yay!) and finally seeing the start of season 2, I am officially hooked. I'm even playing a DnD 4e Equestria campaign.
Now the first thing I do when I get back from work is open up ED and check the updates. *hoofbump*

    116. I was interested as far back as spring when the meme's went up. Once my internship and summer courses were over by late summer, I figured I had some time to kill. Summer was also safe enough to give the show a look since I was home and there were no roommates around. Glad I started late...Idk if I could have lasted longer without season 2 releasing so close to when I started viewing... :P

    121. Sharing time!

Late February or early March, someone used a pony reaction image in a forum I frequent, and they told me that a bunch of people were watching the new MLP series. I assumed it was ironic, and I started watching expecting a laugh. The first episode was not bad, and I was a little freaked out about it. But after a week my curiosity got the best of me and I got myself hooked.

      ReplyDelete
    122. Heard of it when the Hub first aired, I was attracted to the simple yet expressive character designs initially. I've always had high interest in producing such shows myself so I watch children's programming all the time, most of such shows are actually very well-made; aside from FiM they never really get much attention though.

      ReplyDelete
    123. I was watching a live stream of a freind, playing arena matches in WoW. He tabbed out between matches to change up some music, and there I saw a Rainbow Dash wallpaper, with every icon on his desktop being pony related.
I was a little surprised to see so much pony all over his computer, thinking that super-elite PvPers like him wouldn't buy into it (it turns out he and his entire guild are all pro-pony PvPers, much to the chagrin of haters).

So it got me more interested in MLP, and before I know it, I'm losing sleep cramming as much pony into my existance as I can.

Thanks to enjoyoopslol from bringing the gift of pony into my life ♥

    124. Just like some people said, it was after I read cupcakes. Some time in august. I wanted to see more of pinkie pie and see if she was crazy enough to do that. Now she is my favorite. Though I don't ever think of her as her cupcake version, I actually don't like it much. But since it introduced me to this show, it's ok in my book.

    127. I definitely got here late to the party being one of the summer Bronies (July). At first I was cynical and avoided watching MLP FiM, but a good friend convinced me otherwise. Within the first five minutes of the first episode I found myself completely hooked. After getting a hold of the whole first season, I dove headfirst into the Brony culture. Oh how glad I am that I converted to the herd! Now I get to join in with the rest of the fan base as we all squee with delight over season 2!

    129. Kind of an odd story how I started watching. A few weeks ago I was playing Starcraft 2 on a custom map. In this map you get to make up a name every game you join. At the beginning of one game someone said "Theme is ponies!" and about 6 of the 12 people in the lobby chose pony names. I had heard of the show before just from the memes and whatnot but after realized I didn't know any of the characters names, I figured I'd look up the show. After doing some research I was interested in why so many people could be so interrested in a show about multicolored ponies.

I had nothing else to do so I decided to look up episode one. After watching it I decided to watch the second one because it was a two parter. At this point I was hooked. I couldn't help being enthralled by the wonderfully done animation and artwork. The voice acting was superb. Every aspect of the show I liked. I decided to give the show a real shot and began watching the rest of the episodes. It was about 2 days after I finished watching all 26 episodes, and now I'm a brony, and lovin' it.

Modem died, I freaked out and promptly DL'ed the entire first season and episode binged the next week and a half. Now, am writing fanfics and have a Pony theme on my Firefox at work.

I went to the comments and discovered it was My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. This was in the end of April. I watched Episode 1...and already wanted more. Ended up watching the first 6 episodes that night, 3 hours of sleep with a midterm that morning. Luckily, I got a B lol

    136. I was on KYM in April, and there was MLP:FiM all over the place. I thought it was some strange new meme that would die in a month and all would be back to normal.
I could not have been more wrong.
I watched the first episode early may, and like a coward I turned it off before the intro music. It took me a week to man up and watch the whole thing.
My only regret in life is waiting that one week before I let pony into my life.

Also, Wow! There is over 20,000 Bronies that is mind bogglingly awesome.

    137. checking out know your meme in early march, and saw ponies were very popular and was like "wtf?! ponies are a meme?" it intrigued me enough to watch the first episode and I haven't looked back, animation quality particularly hooked me.

It's really more this community and EqD specifically that has kept me hooked for so long after seeing all the episodes. definitely the most friendly and one of the most talented communities ever created, internet or otherwise.

    140. My friend and I were actually waiting to get her tattoo and, in our wait, went to the dollar store. We were buying random things to pass the time and picked up some crayons and an old my little pony coloring book. We had way too much fun coloring in the ugly g3 ponies and started assigning our friends as the various ponies. We called up my friend and asked her to go to the website so we could better assign our friends to the personalities of the ponies. She was brought to the new website, and the old ponies weren't there. I later went on the website and loved the new look! I decided to watch a couple episodes and instantly fell in love. The next day, I found out there had been McDonald's toys, and went to every McDonald's in search of some ponies. But alas, the ponies had left just the day before! I was devastated.

32 year-old fan from south america here, and my 5 year-old daughter loves the show too, but I don't use her as an excuse.... I watched the whole thing by myself before showing it to her (responsible parenting and all that stuff)

    146. I got into it right around when winter wrap up aired, the song being one of the things I was first REALLY exposed to. I had heard stuff on /co/ about it, as I waded through Homestuck and comic threads. at first it was kind of a "oh haha ponies" irony thing but once I sat down and watched my first whole episode I legitimately liked it. I think the first one I sat down, saw the whole thing of, and loved was Ticket Master, but I didn't actually watch a full one till Call Of The Cutie was on. Then later I looked it up and found we had the Hub and so I started DVRing it around Dog and Pony Show.

    147. I became a brony in February. I had noticed allot of screencaps popping up on memebase, but I thought nothing of it. It was only when I went to KNM that something really caught my eye. It was the gif used for the MLP section, the one of dash squinting her eyes in an accusing glare. Something about that animation and art style resonated with me. I didn't know what that something was, but it screamed to know more. The arrow on my screen was hovering over that gif, and with one single click, my fate was sealed.
I've always had a great fondness of high definition and detail, and the next page I saw was saturated with detail. I was in awe. Just to seal the deal, the very first episode was there. I watched it without hesitation, and then proceeded to watch the other episodes in order until four in the morning. I was back to watching the rest of the episodes within half an hour of waking up. That Saturday was the most pony filled day of my life. Ever since then, my Saturday mornings have been the same: Wake up, make coffee, watch My Little Pony.

On a side note: My girlfriend at the time heard more than her fair share of praise about the show from me, and after seeing so many memes about it, she finally gave the show a try. Her exact quotes were "It's kind of stupid."

Two weeks later we had a mutual break up due to "conflicting personalities".

Kind of like when I first got into Harry Potter....but that's another can of magical worms right there.

At the very end of March, a user I know well on a forum posts that they've "succumbed" to ponies. They list the shows merits. At the time, I'm more interested in the 34 (because honestly the fandom/art style lends itself to such art well). So about midway into April, I decide to watch it for real. It only took me the first episode to get hooked, but only because Twilight is so freaking adorkable. I even posted my thoughts on the show on my blog.

    152. You can blame Cardslafter (Author of "Through The Eyes of Another Pony") for drawing me into the herd in late August. All it took was him showing me a few Youtube poop videos, a (scrapped) fic of his, and me finding out Lauren Faust was EP (PPG was my childhood along with all the other oldies back on CN) to solidify my bronyness. Also, you can blame him for showing me the way to EQD, so I can throw wordspam at whatever catches my interest (like this segment for example). :D

    153. Didn't have time to hear about it during the school year, simple as that

    154. I joined up back in June - because of the banner that went up for that month in the OA section of the [adult swim] forum:
      http://www.equestriadaily.com/2011/06/adult-swim-forums-ponyfied.html
(I owe the guy who made that banner a lot, I would have never found out about pony otherwise, and I did tell him so, and thank him for it.)

Well, seeing that banner constantly for a week got me curious and I checked out a few of the links to youtube clips people there were posting. As soon as I saw "Art of the Dress" I knew I had to watch the show, and I don't regret it at all.

so does that mean I get 2 for joining at the end of winter? :D

    156. For me it was CR's let's play of Story of The Blanks. I had seen ponies around but really thought nothing of it, heard it was good, but that was it. Then that let's play happened, and finally I was paying attention to ponies. next thing I know I've watched all the episodes and am reading fan fics.

    158. Pony avatars. Everywere. Just- Everywere.

At first I thought some 4-chan animation team had turned an old stupid girls show into something sick and demented enough for the internet.

Naturally, I avoided it, until I stumbled upon a discussion thread for it in the Minecraft forums. I asked, and they told me to watch the first episodes.

Needless to say, love and tolerance ensued. My s#!t is long gone.

    159. I'll be totally honest, I started watching it because my friend was pushing me to, so I decided to watch the first couple episodes so I could be justified in making fun of him.

And, well, here I am, about 8 months later...

    160. Here's my theory: While Season 1 was broadcast, the bronies were primarily discussing amongst themselves the episodes. Fan-work was relatively low at the time as Canon works sufficed demand.

THen, when Season 1 closed, to fulfill the gap the fanworks started to pour out: Art, Fics, Comics....the production of fanwork kept the brony steam going, if it wasn't for it the Brony phenomenon would've fizzled out.

The outpouring of fanwork started getting noticed by the general internet. During the next few months it started perking people's interests as they saw the occasional pony reference, comic, or anything else on the web. People started seeing the stuff on Memebase. Thus, several months after the broadcast of "Best Night Ever" more and more people became bronies

Conclusion: The outpouring of fan material post-season 1 got people curious about my little pony. It took a few months time delay for people to get curious enough to watch the first episodes

    161. For the longest time I just thought Ponies were cancer on /b/ trying to be "LOL SO RANDUMB xDDD"
Early this August (Yeah, I'm not the oldest Brony) I watched them on Youtube out of sheer morbid curiosity... and bang, I was hooked. I told all my friends (who once thought the same as me; they were just cancer) to watch it, and I've spawned like 10 other Bronies now. Feels good man!

    162. My friends on every art site I visit started doing fanart when I noticed it. I gave it a shot after Broken Plot Device and Renard started referencing it. Best decision ever. I'm not joking. Watching this show has improved my writing and given a perspective on how I want to interact with my fan base if given the opportunity to have one. Hopefully, one as great as this if I'm lucky. All around, it really improved my life in general.

    163. I'd heard things about bronies since the beginning of the show, but only tangentially, and mostly ignored it. In June there was the Wired article, a growing Reddit community, and a ton of awesome fan-made material (I think my favorite was the Fluttershy rap song video) bleeding into other parts of Internet culture. Once I started looking into the show, I found some of the talent behind it like Faust and Renzetti, names I had seen growing up as part of older shows I watched. Took me another couple days to get over the "I'm watching a show about ponies" hump before sitting down to watch it. Four or five days later, I had watched the entire first season, and was surprised at how good it was. Watched it again in a weekend while cruising the subreddit and pretty much went full brony in a matter of days.

    164. Well, I was going to watch it after a friend of mine told me to start watching at Episode 11, but I was studying abroad in Europe for the entire month of June, so I didn't get around to that until July. XP

    165. I thought about it every month since i heard it, then went "Nahh!". I have never truly lived. :3 August bronies ftw

I need to play some more PSO. Ponies kinda took over, lol.

    167. I joined between Sonic Rainboom and Stare Master (whenever that was). I checked out the pilot out of curiosity after seeing the PMV "Elder Scrolls: Equestria". I started by skipping to a random place in the middle of the episode since I didn't necessarily want to watch the whole thing if it turned out to be repulsive. As it happened I jumped right to the scene where Twilight meets Fluttershy, and that scene absolutely shredded my resistance to ponies. After a few days I was all caught up and eagerly awaiting the newest offering of pony.

      Fluttershy is a beast.

    168. What first drew me in was those pony movie trailer mash-ups. Inglorious Ponies and such. I saw a bunch of them posted on Escapist or Wired. I fell in love with the animation style and ran out and watched 'em on youtube.

      ReplyDelete
    169. What drew me in was the appearance of so many pony avatars and signatures on forums - especially the Terraria forum.

I used to like watching the old G1 show when I was a kid, but had more or less lost interest in it long ago, and almost (just almost) forgotten about it, so when I found out there was a new MLP show out, and that it had created a considerable fan-following, I was naturally curious and decided to check it out.

      ReplyDelete
    170. The first time I saw any mention of MLP at all was the Ponycraft 2 vid on kotaku. It didn't even stick in my mind at all (really sad about this, but it is what it is). Fast forward a little, to when Krobo started making excellent pony YTP's. After doing some research, I decided to give it a shot a few weeks after "Best Night Ever" aired.

And that's how a brony was made!

    171. I joined the second week of April, What happened was that I saw a funny pony avatar and thought it was cool, but at the time I didn't know it was pony, I just thought it was just some cool internet thing and wanted to find out about it, so then I started to Google for it, and for some random chance I typed in My little pony and found it, I joked about watching it and saw it with my siblings, after a few episodes and looking at the awesome stuff that was around I got hooked! (and so did my siblings)

    172. Well, I fell in love with the show in March, when my friend at school told me to watch it. Then, every Monday after a new episode came out, we'd excitedly discuss it with my other friend who was also a fan. I didn't really join the brony community until June, though, when I discovered this site. (I googled My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic 'cause I really needed some new stuff to chew on)

    173. Well Winter here
I'm a kiwi pegasister, so US summer is NZ winter
anyway, I joined the fandom in June, a couple days before my cat died, then slowy got more and more into the show and was a full blown fan within a week of starting the first season

    174. Convert in early February, right as the fandom began taking hold of /b/, but before it had really expanded outside of 4chan.

Honestly it was the movement of it all that drew me in initially. The concept of a recurring thread on /b/ was absolutely stunning to me. For those not familiar, there are no "generals" on /b/. Certain thread archetypes, yes, but no continuous discussion, and no one subject ever really makes it past 2-3 threads in a row before people lose attention.

Imagine my surprise when, one day, I witnessed thread after thread after thread about MLP, because of the sheer, unfathomable volume of interest in it. There was this constant sense that it couldn't possibly go on any longer, that the next thread would surely be the last, that the spam would finally break things down. And there was always this sense of amazement when that didn't happen. We had no idea of our own numbers back then.

New bronies and soon-to-be haters alike were constantly expressing their disbelief. These threads were all questions. What is this? Why am I watching this? What's wrong with you guys? Where can I see more? Why won't you stop?

Feb 5th was the date of my earliest pony thread screencap:

An Anon (we were all still Anon back then) asked, "I leave 4chan for a week, and now all i see are pony threads. What the fuck is happening!?"

In true overly-dramatic /b/tard style, another Anon replied, "The revolution is happening, comrade. It is glorious, and those who oppose it will be left behind in darkness."

      /retrospectivechills

      Those were crazy times.

    177. I was among some of the earliest fans I suppose. Someone I know on the show mentioned it to me early on. I was rather skeptical at first, but decided I'd give it a shot at least. Then dislike it and never speak of it again of course. lol I grew up watching the generation one ponies when I was very little, but I knew that the latest generations such as three were less-than-stellar. So I was thinking this would probably be along the same lines. So I tuned in for the season one premiere with much doubt. I watched the episode, and let me tell you, I wanted to see more. It only took that first episode for me to like the show. As I watched more episodes as they aired, I came to love the show more and more. I was around when Ponychan and Equestria Daily here first made their debuts onto the scene. I've witnessed a lot happen in the community since then. Seems like we've come such a long way in such a short period of time. But I've never looked back and I'm happy to be apart of such an awesome community. :)

    178. One post on Memebase about ponies(the first one they had), then quite some time later I read the infamous cupcakes, then I watched the show on the same night. This was two months before august and I still remember my first episode, over a barrel.

    179. I could have very easily joined the fandom back in March when I gave the first episode a try (or in April as my curiosity rekindled itself), but it really wasn't until the end of May when I decided to give it an honest chance and subsequently fell in love with it.

    180. I joined in mid march when I noticed them on funnyjunk and then KYM after I got over my WoW addiction. I then proceeded to head to ponychan and found EQD in the links to other pony sites.

    182. I actually hadn't noticed too much pony stuff around until early June, for some reason. I didn't think much of it until some extra characters appeared in a webcomic I followed (it's called Magick Chicks, I've never had a huge problem with things not as focused on guys). Checking the forum, I noticed people commenting on some character names from somewhere else, then mentions of My Little Pony. A few more characters showed up later on, and more talk of Pony in the forum. So I finally looked into what was up and learned of Friendship is Magic. Didn't check it out (I mean, My Little Pony had always been far too girly and kiddy for me) until someone on said forum posted a link to "What Pinkie's Song Actually Sounded Like" on YouTube. Watched it, loved the animation, eventually decided to give it a shot from episode 1. I was soon hooked. The great fandom I came across shortly after just made it even better. :)
