ReplyDeleteLook man, I understand your pain, but this is getting old fast. Look back. I think there's more comments telling people to stop complaining than there actually comments complaining.
I get tired of hearing people get worked up about these things, but its even more tiring of hearing the fans constantly preach to each other that they're going to "destroy the fandom".
Plus, for this particular one, you have to consider that a lot of these comments are genuine. I don't think [AS] is funny at all. I think they're juvenile and sometimes very sick. This doesn't change that at all.
It's probably coming from the fact that what we're doing is just considered weird, but this fandom is far more likely to "fall apart" from the amount of self doubt each brony has in the community, not from the actual community itself.

Please, do go back and read the comments. There are many more people complaining about potential complainers than there are actual complainers, of which there are very little of (Though they do exist and should heed most of your words.)
While the "bump" you mention is funny, provided it did take place, this one lacks originality and that is the one thing people are talking about here.

ReplyDeleteI think this annoys me because after all this time, people STILL think that all bronies are 14 year old, pale antisocial freaks that jerk off to pictures of Rainbow Dash... and that is just not so. I know lots of bronies, locally (and around the WORLD) that get out into the community, donate blood, form charities, etc. [AS] comments just sounded like some macho douchebag trying to impress a girl. Being a girl (and a brony or pegasister or whatever), I am MORE impressed by bronies loving the show without shame, and being just who you are. :)

ReplyDeleteMy girlfriend was the first person to tell me about The Hub. Then I got her onto ponies. Whaddaya know, takes all kinds to make a world!
Anyhow, they're right. Shit hit the fan. This fandom showed it's scared, angry, vehemently vocal ugly side. It's largely over now, but it's important to remember our overreaction. Maybe we can be and do better next time!
And to everybody who's raging about the quality of [AS] of late, it's always been kinda good but kinda shit. They gave us Robot Chicken, Aqua Teen, Squidbillies, and lots of other comedy gold. Sure, most of it's trite, stupid, juvenile or any other adjective this side of puerile, but none of what's on Adult Swim is meant to be taken seriously. That especially includes the bumps, they troll everyone.
My own sense of humor is firmly rooted in the non sequitur. I may not like a lot of what's on [AS], especially recently, but I appreciate them for having been there.

ReplyDeleteAnyway, it's just a (lame) joke. Months ago [as] made a list of shows that weren't on their block that you should be watching, or could be watching and MLP:FiM was on it.
They went for "funny" and hit "cliche" instead. I'm certainly not insulted by it or anything. They diss everything, even themeselves.
I like [as] because they show new American Dad episodes a week after they air on Fox, and at a time slot when I'll be able to watch them. Along with MLP and Futurama, Adventure Time and Regular Show are my favorite animated shows on TV. Adult Swim isn't what it used to be, but Cartoon Network is putting out some good stuff.
That was short and fairly uninteresting. Interesting to see how butthurt people are getting over a 10 seconds long video which isn't even that insulting compared to some of the crap we get.

Not everyone is going to be all sunshine and farts about the fandom .. and I don't expect them to. Especially not from a group that makes fun of everyone.
ReplyDeleteHah, like a few others, I've been married for many years, so the "laid" part is irrelevant. On the other hand, like some others mentioned, that particular bump could (and very well MAY) create new bronies. I had never even HEARD of the show, let alone knew about bronies until I read about it on cracked.com. My curiosity got the better of me and I looked an episode up on youtube and have been hooked ever since! (Most likely had I not read the cracked article, but saw that bump instead, the exact same thing would have happened.)

But they took a few seconds of everyone's time and did that whole set-up just for a "certain interests aren't conducive to sex" joke. Any other cutting-edge humor you wanna try out, [adultswim]? I feel honored just for the fact that Adult Swim has been keeping up on the brony community, even if it is to bash them. They have to know something in order to say something like this on t.v. and this isn't the first time Adult Swim has said something about ponies.

Adult Swim stopped being relevant or interesting right about when Space Ghost ended. Now it's just a bunch of cut-rate imitators of Mike Judge. Like cheap Zynga knockoffs of decent games, they just don't get it. And like so many others, when they've run out of good ideas, they turn to mean-spirited attack humor.
