• Discussion: You Are Now a Princess/Prince!

Princess Celestia has UPGRADED you for her new colonization project.  Apparently, Equestria is a bit too over-crowded!

You have been teleported to the other side of whatever planet ponies inhabit, with 90 mares and 90 stallions (30 of each pony type per gender) . It's time to build a pony nation!

Celestia is giving you a few preliminary choices though:

1.) What type of environment would you like?  (Desert, Forest, Underwater Bubble Houses, Enchanted Sky City, Ect)

2.) You can tame one type of beast that has been in the show so far for defense only.  Remember, ponies are peaceful! You have animals to do your dirty work!  Which one do you choose? (Manticore, Dragon, Hydra, Cockatrice, Ect)

3.) What is your society primarily going to focus on? (Science, Worshiping Luna, Rapid Population Expansion, Reading a bunch of bad fanfiction, ect)

You need to figure out how to incorporate each type of pony (earth, pegasus, unicorn) into your fledgling nation with the goal of becoming a utopia in under 10 years! Are your unicorns the ones that maintain your bubble houses while your hydra taming earth ponies farm kelp and Luna worshiping pegusai write bad fanfiction?

Your a Celestia tier dictator, so it's all up to you!

    1. 1) We would live underground, beneath a volcano, so that we could harvest the heat and energy from the magma for our energy. There would be two main transport shafts to the overworld and many breathing shafts. Ten main open areas each with its own town/city.

      2) We would form an alliance with the Diamond Dogs (do they count?) to help us mine out our catacombs, chasms, tunnels, labyrinth, etc. in return for 50% of the gems we find.

3)During construction: The earth ponies would mine, the unicorns would plan the design as well as harvest energy, and the pegasusessesseses would fly the excess rocks from mining to the magma pits, to use as energy.
During life in the region: The earth ponies would harvest food aboveground, the pegasi would create artificial weather in the underground village, and the unicorns would light up the area and telepathically stay in touch with the rest of the world.

    3. 1. Mountains

      2. Dragons

      3.engineering, science,

The earth ponies would be in charge of agriculture and enginering , as well as providing addition ground support/scouting.

The unicorns would be scientests and help with engineering. Also providing medical care. During times of conflict they would provide artillery, and logistics.

The pegesi would be the primary fighting force/ dragon tammers. They would gather inetilgence, and have a rapid response teams to deal with any emergency situation, as well as weather control.

      2. Dragons

      3. Rapid population expansion... definitely rapid population expansion.

    6. Well... I would choose a forest in the feet of a mountain. That way, the mountain can offer some degree of defense, and the forest can provide much needed resources for a flourishing nation.

Next would be defensive measures. Living in a forest, the logical answer would be timber wolves. But I would construct several stone obelisks, and fill them with quarray eels. I don't know why, but I like them.

From there on, my objectives would be resource aquisition and life quality. Works would be cyclic, so, maybe, four months working on the farms, four months in construction, and four months of holidays, for example. Weather can handle itself, and the day-night cycles are handled by the royal sisters.

When the colony is developed enough, I would make a universal suffrage, to see if the population is happy with my rule. If they are, I decree the formation of a council of counselors. I would do this because, in a well developed city, country, or whatever, there is enough population so the government doesn't know what the citizen wants. Those positions would be cyclic, and chosen at random.

If they don't like me, well, I form their government and leave myself as a figurehead. I don't want to live off of them, but I want to keep on helping them.

Both these options give me much needed time. Time for research! Quarray eels are good for a static defense, but a mobile force to complement them would be perfect, for example. And no, ponies don't have to fight. Droids will do.

Thus, as droid technology advances, it can be applied to everything, making life much much easier to everypony.

All in all, that would be it. To summarize:

      Terrain: montanious forest
      Companion: quarray eels
      Focus: quality of life

    7. we all live in the in between and have domesticated... timberwolves(next is vampires)
      unicorns make corn
earth ponies are forced to learn the ways of the psychic and use telekinesis and stuff
and pegasi, well they are the entertainment and put on puppet shows using clouds as costumes(also r my spies) but i cant tell you that
we all pri-mare-ily ;D focus on building large unstable buildings and how to have better unceunce parties

    9. I think I would go with a set up of a forested mountain range with the settlement within a valley created by the mountains.
For defense we would probably hire diamond dogs or dragons (easy to bribe) but if not that then it would be defended by an immortal army of phoenixes. You kill it? Nope, just rebirthing.
Their would be about three major things this new settlement would be trying to do.
1: The advancement of MagiTech, who doesn't love technology powered magic or magic powered technology?
2: Expansion of Equestrian territory and population growth.
3: Bringing about the New Lunar Republic as a true political power, currently overseen by Celestian rule but with hopes of one day becoming it's own nation allied with Celestia.
Finally each pony has their jobs to do. Earth and Pegasi to grow crops and keep nature under control. Unicorns and Earth to build the grand structures and retrieve the resources necessary for the settlement to grow. Unicorns and Pegasi would be the main developers of the MagiTech. All three would of course be throughout the government at all sorts of levels. This is of course only a rough outline of what everypony would be doing and of course everypony would be encouraged to live their life as they see fit as long as it does not hamper the development of the settlement.

    10. Well wherever it is it had damn well better have a warm-summer Mediterranean climate. A valley near the ocean that traps cool coastal air within its fertile forests and land easily adapted to farming. And the Earth Ponies of this land shall farm, great tracts of farmland fueled by the water from the climate's abundant rain. There shall be an abundance of all foods appropriate to the climate. This civilization’s goal shall be to use the verdant land to its fullest potential and produce the finest food in abundant amount. The valley floor shall be lined with fields and groves of growing plants, and the gentle mountains of the valley shall be coated with vineyards and rice farms claiming the bounty of the inclined surface. Pegasi shall maintain the perfect weather and Earth Ponies shall maintain the perfect land. A xanadu of agriculture shall inhabit this valley, all but the coast itself.

The spot, where all the rivers flowing down through the valley from up the mountains meet the ocean, shall hold grand city at its bay. A proud metropolis built from the harbor where the endless bounty of food is exported to those outside the land. But the city itself will not just be an exaggerated port. A government necessary for any great city and any great land shall form. From this government infrastructure shall form, from infrastructure there shall be the potential for great things, pinnacles of culture, education, and technology. All ponies shall contribute to the formation of this great city and through it and the farms that sustain it this great land shall thrive as no pony has seen thrive before.

Many others will envy the greatness of this lone civilization on a level higher than those before it, and they shall decide to take what they cannot achieve. But this land will have a secret weapon, within the mountains lie dragons. The dragons, trained by the great unicorn beast tamers, shall be the greatest enemy repellant of this land keeping back invaders in junction with the regional pony militias of the land.

I mean that’s assuming a violent rift doesn’t form between the agricultural ponies in the city feeling entitled to what they grow and the ponies in the city acting pragmatically knowing they’ve no way of sustaining themselves without the valley’s farms. Assumedly that would lead to either a secession of those in the valley who, with access to the dragons in the mountains, would be able to hold their land against the city. The city would only have their pony military and whatever foreign aid they could bring in through the harbor (badass zebra/griffon mercenaries?) to reclaim the valley. That or the agricultural working class rises up against bourgeois ponies living in the city. A violent overthrow of government occurs and those who become victors take the luxuries of those they did away with. But not everyone wins and those still working in the valley eventually move to overthrow the new wealthy ponies in the city and an endless cycle occurs. Whichever scenario occurs it would make for some damn good fanfic.

Anyway this is making want to built this ideal land in Simcity, I’m off to go create the San Anponyo Valley.

    11. 1)Giant underground bubble domes, like an underground equestria, located a safe but respectable distance from a nearby magma
pool/dormant super-volcano. this would be located under a large tundra, as well as have major underwater ports located in the bordering ocean/sea.

2)We would tame parasprites. this would be due to the fact that they can be fed scrap, junk, and leftovers, as well as multiply rapidly. the could swarm and cute factor could be used against anything affected by that, or the unicorn s could use their magic to make them temporarily carnivorous swarms centered on devouring any and all flesh they can find, which would lead to near exponential growth making them nearly impossible to defeat.

3)advances in Exploration and science/magic. advancements primary goal would be to explore extraplantary bodies and dimensions, and further colonization with simpler/easier travel allowing people to be millions of miles away but practically next door.

Pegasi would be tasked with keeping the climate comfortable and normal weather duties, as the domes would be quite large. weather duty would also entail temp control by offsetting cold and warm air from both outside and the volcano to change temperatures for "seasons." unicorns would primarily work on advancements. the earth ponies would keep the ecosystems thriving
that are kept in the dome, as well as farming. as for me, i would control the dark/light cycles.

due to the closed system, anypony could theoretical assist in any field. an earth pony could assist in temp control or a pegasi help with general sciency stuff. the volcano could be used as a geothermal plant when electricity was needed, as well as a bomb shelter-esque seal, if a magma canal system was built.

There would be a required higher education in at least general studies. any and all second pursuit would be done such that anything anypony feels is important enough to discover or do is done, or at least allowed to be.

general expansion could be done by using the resources located within the domes and from surrounding land/sea if need be. the lack of predators would lead to complete positive development, and my kind/sympathetic nature, which is only countered by my terribly morbid inner self, would ensure domestic tranquility, allowing for natural towns and centers to develop.

We would train every type of dragon.
I would devote my brightest and best to stop SOPA and get hasbro to give us the rights to distribute the showc all over the world.
We would not discriminate races, just take the smartest of every type and set them to stop SOPA.

    14. As 'King' Dusty (screw Prince. I ain't sharing a title with Blueblood) of the lush south forests, plains, and valleys, my policy would be one of advancement of magic and scientific technologies to the point where ponykind shall break off their planetary shackles and be able to spread the magic of friendship across the universe. The kingdom will work slowly but steadily towards this goal, all the while branching out and culturally advancing in the areas of art, philosophy, and interspecies/international diplomacy.

...There will also probably be a fair bit of sex going on if the severely low population that Celestia has given us is any indication.

As for the roles the ponies would play, well... I'm not so sure how different from Equestria it would be. There would be more of an emphasis on academia, certainly, but I'm not going to FORCE anyone to do anything they don't want to do. People can do what they want within reason.

Now... as for what "beast" I would have to do our "dirty work..." Well I wouldn't call them beasts, but I'd have to go with the Dragons. I'd probably attempt to open diplomatic channels with the Dragons of the area and offer them to share in whatever the nation produces for their protection, as well as offering them a place aboard our new interstellar society once it takes off if they so desire. Failing that and the dragons don't want any part of it, I'd make the same offer to the Griffins. Failing THAT, then I guess I'd have to go with trained Timber Wolves. Thousands of them. Or Ursas.

    15. 1) The domain would be a sky city, not of clouds but of enchanted stone and earth. this would allow the growth of crops and could allow the city to add more land by creating more platforms.

      2) Due to the nature of the city, air defenses would be the most necessary. Falcons would be trained for defense.

      3) the largest focus would be sciences, specifically magi-tech and agriculture.

the city by its nature would need to manage soil carefully so to always have access to food supplies. Though in times of need, journeys to the ground would be a viable option for food. unicorns would be placed in the role of improving and maintaining the Magics that let the city float. they would also work on creating tech to allow the easier construction of new land, and to give non-pegsus ponies easy of mobility in the city. the Pegasus would work to keep storms away and bring clouds to water the fields, while helping with the the city's growth in the way only fliers can; they would build walkways between the sections of the city and manage the placement of the platforms before real work on them begins. Earth ponies would focus on maintaining plant growth so the city could have parks and fields of food. the e city would follow this plan until it becomes sustainable and then would begin to diversify it's activities while still holding the core jobs in high importance. When the city reaches a certain level of prosperity it would begin interacting with other societies for trade and diplomacy.

    16. 1. A moderately wooded area with the occasional clearing for farms at a relatively high elevation
      2. I wasn't entirely sure what to pick, so I went the nerd route and looked in a Pathfinder bestiary. I'd ask Celestia for two or three Xarcarbas. Here's a link for those who are curious. http://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/monster-listings/outsiders/xacarba
      3. My society's prime focus would be a combination of science/technology and the arts.

First of all, it requires a VERY well balanced and organized team to take care of even one Xacarba, so anypony with a knack for fighting or aggressive personality would be in charge of them.

Racial roles would be pretty standard for the most part. Earths mine, farm, etc. Pegasi survey for resources, signs of trouble, all that jazz. Unicorns fill in any job that needs to be done.

Any pony, regardless of race would get a personal audience with me to ask for approval of any project they wish to work on,(composing a symphony, new invention, research etc.). Upon approval they're given enough money to kickstart the project and keep themselves fed. In exchange I get a fair percentage of the profit. This grant is not given out willy nilly. Only those dedicated to their field should bother to make this request.

Provided the success of whatever's proposed, it should pave the way to a highly advanced and cultured country.

    17. 1. We will have a civilization like this picture, except brighter and more happy-go-lucky. http://wall.alphacoders.com/big.php?i=115838
The top of the "sky needles" will be dominated by the aristocracy of our civilization and the occasional lower class citizen who has work up there. The land at the bottom of the needles in a 2 mile diameter will be the home of most of the middle class and the market place. The land outside of those land ranges will have the most basic homes built for any outsiders who can't afford a home inside the city.

      2. Our guardians will be dragons, for they have wings and can defend the top of the sky needles easily, while at the same time defending the ponies who live on the land and in the "outskirts".

      3. Our primary focuses will be defense. We are located in a territory under threat of war. So we will have jobs for our Earth Ponies ti tame more dragons, breed dragons, and teach them to be gentle but strong in times of need. We will also teach our unicorns to enchant magically crafted armor for our soldiers. Our soldiers will be primarily pegasi because they have the fastest mobility and can fly. But there will also be positions for our unicorn soldiers as medics and our Earth Ponies can tame random beasts in the heat of battle for temporary support.

      4. Our main source of income is being paid to protect other cities in the area and to attack cities as well. We are the most advanced in the art of war after all.

      5. Our constitution will be short and sweet.

As the leader of our glorious city, I pledge to rule fairly and mercifully, while also delivering the fist of justice unto whoever deserves it. As a citizen of our home, you will pledge to love and tolerate all of your fellow citizens. Silent and non-violent hatred is strongly discouraged, but is allowed. Any hatred that leads to assault or any greater crime is intolerable and will lead to banishment.

      Signed,
      Klaboohey

4.) 30 pony's of each type 15 of each sex. Total 90 ponys. Earth Pony's would be in charge of food and resource gathering. Pegasus in charge of scouting and making the weather good for the Earth Pony's. Unicorns would be crafts pony's and noble pony's........holy shit at this point the Gobbo's attack GAH! 21. A network of underground tunnels surrounding a large cavern, with Diamond Dogs as defenders. And work force. Kept in line (and blissfully happy) by the unicorns' mind-control enchantments, which are also used to create the illusion of a wonderful world where everything is perfect.

The pegasi create weather in the cavern to let the earth ponies who are into that sort of thing grow crops; everyone else has other jobs depending on what they want to do, since all the really vital tasks are handled by mind-controlled diamond dogs.

Eventually, my army of pony drow will boil forth to conquer the surface world! Peacefully. With mind control. MUA HA HA.

    23. My pony settlement shall be under the mountains, in a series of large caverns and tunnels. The largest of these caverns shall be able to support weather provided by the pegusai. The diamond dogs would be our allies, acting as guards, as well as well as assisting in their mining operations. There ability to burrow will give them the advantage in the tunnels. The settlements primary focus would be (no surprise) mining the mountain of it's resources. The Earth Ponies would be in charge of food, through both farms in the larger caverns, and hunting creatures (either in the farther tunnels or the outside). Unicorns would supervise the mining operations by using dowsing magic to locate precious materials and designing and constructing machines, both for mining and everyday use. The pegusai, apart from weather in the larger caverns, would act as messengers between outposts, and scouting the outside for potential outpost locations.

    25. Well, lets see...

      1. Need a Mediterranean climate, think southern California.

      2. Dragon. Cliche, I know, but I foresee the need for their strength in my plans.

      3. My plan is to build a city that serves as a amusement park. We'll need the dragon along with the earth and unicorn ponies to work on creating small scale representations of other parts of Equestria. Mini Everfree forest, Canterlot, etc. We'll need lakes and rivers and pools. The pegusi will be busy gathering water and such for them, as well as working on keeping the climate in check. I'll try to simulate the weather in various parts of the world for accuracy.

We'll need hotels and places for all of the tourists to stay, and of course we'll need lots of food stuffs. That will most likely be a joint effort between all three races, Also, what is considered "fair/junk food" in Equestria? Anyone know?

We'll also need unicorn magic to power many of the attractions. Think animatronics and the like. Not quite sure what exactly the names/types of attractions, but for examples think about a roller coaster ride called "journey through the everfree forest", a roller coaster that would simulate a tour through the royal canterlot castle, etc.

We wouldn't really work on much else, other than improving the park. We'd be a money maker for the world. We probably would see about expanding to other parts of the world once we get established, We could also hire workers/talent from other areas of the world.

I'm not sure what I'd call the park. I know it's a cop out, but something related to Pinkie Pie?

So yeah, there's my two cents. We'd be the Disney World of Equestria.

    26. Holy Celestia on a stick, that's a lot of text. I'd better make this quick.

I'd take the barren, volcanic, fire-and-brimstone type of terrain. It's prime real estate, mostly due to the fact that it's cheap. There's probably valuable magical ores there, too...

My beast of choice shall be the Dragon. They seem to be the most powerful of the options so far (assuming that Draconequus is not one of them), and extremely intelligent, to boot. I'm sure we could work out an arrangement that would make both them and my Ponies happy.

(I briefly considered Windigos, 'cause they're awesome, but between the hate thing, and ice critters in a volcanic environment... Yeah, no.)

The primary society focus will be being the "Evil Empire". The empire won't really be EVIL, of course, we'll just do our best to look badass and intimidating. Plus, we can have a monopoly on Evil, so that we'd be allowed to hunt down the TRULY evil guys.

As such, the Earth Ponies would be skilled warriors and blacksmiths (magical ore and magical metal goods would be our prime export). The Pegasi (preferably bat-winged, if Luna will let us have some) will also be competent warriors, but will be more focused on scouting and exploration. Meanwhile, the Unicorns would be ambassadors and Masters of the Dark yet only Morally Ambiguous Arts.

Finally, although this wasn't on the list, my "Prince" name (though I'd prefer no title) would be Arcane Dark.

Gee, that went on longer than I'd anticipated. Oh, well.

      ReplyDelete
    27. 1) Island chain with varing environments, with the most mountainous being the HQ.

      2) A Manticore or a Cockatrice(s) but you wouldn't no by the architecture because that be devoted to dragons and other beasts. Keep'em guessing is the battleplan.

      3)Exploration and Engineering.
The Earth ponies would handle the bulk of the agriculture, mining and sculpting, the Pegasi the scouting and weather management and the Unicorns the research, development and fine manipulation(the fine touchs on construction). Several islands would go to research, camping/survival training and high class tourism with the 2 most barren used for experimental testing/fireworks and giant Colossi/Mecha pony testing/fighting/wrestling(just because).
Our main goals would be to archive and collect world knowledge and culture, search for the ellusive sea, mer, glitter and flutter ponies, build an island strecthing railroad line, improve construction for better air/regular ships and a giant telescope for viewing the other colonies that went the -Rapid Population Expansion- route(for scientific purposes of course).

    28. 1.) Subterranean. Let us strike the earth!

2.) Dragons. Flames and tunnels are not healthy for hostile creatures.

3.) GEMS. SO MANY GEMS. Think Diamond Dogs were crazy about gems? We'll out-do them by ten times. We will export gems. We will feed our dragon so many gems. We will create armor out of gems. We shall become gem-masters. WE WILL GEM LIKE NOPONY HAS EVER GEMMED BEFORE.

And then we'll wind up delving too deep and greedily, tap a vein of precious metals, and unleash fell powers upon my fortress.

      Then the games shall begin.

    30. Terrain: Largely flat grasslands with great forests.
Animal: Diamond Dogs (sheer numbers and digging speed).
Intent: Empirical expansion, stabilization and domination.

The Flat lands and abundance of trees are perfect for building great dwellings and structures with plenty of room. The Dogs' large numbers, insane reproduction and maturity rates and natural affinity for dirty work make them perfect candidates for our expendable fielders.

Earth class ponies are given construction and farming tasks primarily but a few are in the technological development team.
Unicorn class ponies make up the bulk of our think tank but also act as foreponies for construction teams.
Pegasus class ponies are split evenly between agricultural work, constructive work and research work with their unique outlooks due to their ability to fly, which helps with construction. This also helps them safely get up top to strips trees of their dangerous branches and vacate bird nests and animal families before harvesting the tree itself.

The Diamond Dogs' housing and breeding zones are all underground, burrowed under a nearby hill with a crudely made flag planted on top to signify that it's their hill. They bring back hard to gather resources (ores, gems, clay, coal, rock, ancient magical artefacts and sand) and use a magma core deep under the colony to smelt the ores into malliable ingots which are then carted back to the surface to be smithed into tools by the Earth ponies.

Defence is comprised of several outerlying pressure zones manned by Dogs that alert the colony of approaching surface dwellers. Watchtowers with binoculars or telescopes determine whether the intruders are hostile. If hostile, Dog hounds spring up out of the ground using the tunnels in the area and accost the enemy with sharp weapons including spears.

I, the Alicorn class leader, reside in a very tall tower constructed from rock and supported by other wooden buildings lower down the bottom of it, watching everything using self crafted magic spells and a scrying orb for extra measure.

An earthquake would be absolutely devastating to us as our whole colony would sink and fall into the exposed tunnels, so much wood is diverted to beam usage in the tunnels to keep them stable, even so much as to make the inner tunnels almost completely made of wood, with only the floor sometimes being still dirt and gravel.

Water is purified using magic and crops are carefully grown to make sure of maximum harvest. Dogs replace plows in clearing the ground.

    31. 90? Are you crazy?, For a new big settlement are needed at least 300. ._q 90 is for a town, not a capital city/new nation.

      1. In a mountain, with a forest on the skirts of it. The city would be more like a Citadel, since the environment is cold 5/8 of the year, embedded on the mountain, with some hybridization with a sky city, since most of the space down there would be used for crops.

      2. Dragons of course, Keep ponies warm, gives a mean of communication and transportation. There could be a chance of letting the dragons had an academy and develop a pony-dragon culture-thingy-whatever.

      3. Expansion, expansion... oh and develop a multicultural society... and magical experiments to let a pony and a dragon have children on their own... because I'm f*****g EVIL!!! MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Not really, Spike bribe me to make this plan... damn, he really likes Rarity. o_q

    32. 1. My Nation would be in a rather temperate zone near some mountains which would allow for future placement of observatories.

      2. I would get my pony researchers to create a new form of life to defend us. A Worm like creature that travels in large groups and induces psychic terror in it's victims and then implants larvae in the minds of it's still living victims. I also would work on creating an aerial and an aquatic version of these worms.

      3. My Nation would focus on the advancement of science and technology in order to eventually colonize and explore the stars. And We also would have a very cosmopolitan culture, with all cities having mixed pony populations.

Unicorns would be the magical researchers as well as some of the tinkers and inventors in my soceity. They would help invent new machines for the ponies.

Pegasi would still control the weather as well as help in aerial recon looking for arable farmland and resources.

Earth ponies would farm the land as well as do more practical jobs, such as repairing infrastructure and construction work.

I basically would watch over my ponies carefully. I would mainly try to shy away from government, letting the ponies themselves have Representatives much like a democracy. Citizens would have freedom of the press, speech, religion and be free to do what they wanted as long nopony came to harm.

I also would deglate a mixture of Earth Ponies, Pegasi and Unicorns to each of the government jobs and help them along in their jobs a bit. As well as protect them. If any harm came to my ponies by and foreign power, I would unleash my worm armies on them with no mercy.

Basically, I would eventually make my nation the Equestrian version of The Culture.

    33. A plains and forested area similar to that of Ponyville, surrounded by hills and/or mountains.

Windigo's would protect the populace from any attacking creature, what with the whole stopping negative emotions thing.

The first step in our colony would be to set up self sufficiency and sustainability of an economy/lifestyle. After that it would be a simple laid back area with a focus on magical/scientific (I do not think their universe would separate the two) advancement.

All ponies would have to work towards sustainability first and foremost with pegusi keeping weather as needed, and securing the perimeter with the windigos.

Earth ponies would have the task of caring for the land and starting the main process of agriculture. Able bodied ponies may also be put toward defensive measures (assuming the area is "wild" like the Everfree).

Unicorns would be in charge of setting up main functions of the colony such as plumbing/irrigation and architecture ( though the first settlements would be more spartan and less showy), as well as helping out with applicable tasks such as moving multitudes of items or clearing land with magic if possible.

All ponies would be tasked with the jobs of normal civilization and would help out with any tasks needing to be done. After the initial set up, falling into a daily relaxed peaceful existence would be preferred. The societal focus would be on furthering education, which may lead to some problems about social class later, but I'm an Alicorn I'll deal with that later.

    35. I would build my nations capital ether near the sea (as in coastal), or right on the water of a river.

I would then use the pegasi for air to air defense, and guiding ships (in both air and water traffic control,) and maintaining the weather.

The Unicorns would be geared towards medical studies. They would also learn plant care, including plant based diseases and ways to cure them. The unicorn magic and skill speeding up my goals.

The earth ponies would work in the industrial and farms producing food and building ships homes armor walls.

Finally I would have tamed hydras controlled by any of the three main races to use in 'defense' as I Focus on a population boom.

    36. 1. Forest/marsh landscape with flat plains bordering the forest.
      2. Hydra would be used to maintain the marshlands. Clearing away unwanted vegetation and whatnot.
      3. Religion based on Celestia and Luna along with agriculture and magic studies.

Earth Ponies would grow crops of wheat, cotton, and vegetables on the flat plains. They would also aid in the maintenance of the marshlands ;as well as, plant specific herbs and mushrooms used in alchemical research.

Unicorns at the university and apothecarium study various spells and create potions/elixers used to improve both the crops and prevent sickness. Education shall be provided to all the ponies by the unicorns at the university or by apprenticeships under certain earth ponies or pegasi.

Pegasi would be the primary defence and weather control. Harvesting the herbs in the marsh for alchemy would be the third pegasi task.

The capitol would be a tree house based city with plank and rope bridges connecting the homes and businesses together. All bridges eventually connecting to the Temple of the Sister Deities. Oakhaven is the name of my utopias capitol.

    37. 1. My new society would be among the frigid caverns and snow drifts of the Appleachian Mountains.

      2. We would breed a species of timberwolf that is resistant to the freezing climate, and domesticate them as both pets and defenders of our city.

      3. Our society would be centered around researching the pony genome, and how to alter it in order to create a pony that is more resilient to extreme climates, and is able to adapt quickly to a new environment.

Unicorns would assist the pegasi with weather control, but would stick to using their magical abilities to work in the labs, on the pony genome.

Pegasi would be mainly responsible for weather, but they would also be used for transportation to and from the city in the mountains.

Earth ponies would become the craftsponies of the society as well as the harvesters any valuable resource around the city and lab assistants, needed for moving equipment around and the like.

Only the brightest minds of the city would be allowed to work on the pony genome, regardless of race. All ponies are strongly recommended that they receive an education, but this is optional. There will be a couple of schools, each with their own specializations on certain careers needed throughout the city, but this will expand as the city grows. Our city will also be well known as one of the best stargazing hotspots around Equestria, where anybody can watch in awe as the heavens cradle the stars and galaxies that occupy the night sky.

The arctic domain of Icefall is not suited for those weak of heart or will. Only ponies who have the strength and resilience to live in this chilling city will find prosperity and a fulfilling life.

    38. The Land of Dulcecho. (Doolsekko)

Terrain: An expansive system of underground caves that center around three gigantic caverns large enough to contain an entire city of ponies, a simulated countryside, and an enormous Temple of the Arts. The city (Dappledome) is heavily influenced by Greco-Roman Architecture at it's core but surrounding it are a variety of other types of buildings ranging from Gothic to Japanese to Art Nouveau to Post Modern. The countryside cavern and small town (Fallowflake) held within it is 40% Parkland, 50% Farmland, and 10% Town, the residents of said town cultivating the farm and tending to the park. Finally, in the last major cavern stands the massive Temple of the Arts which is part university part laboratory part theater part Colosseum. Every cavern and cave and subcave navigated by pony is illuminated by bioluminescent mushrooms but each of the three caverns have magical pseudo-suns that simulate day and 'stars' that dot the cavern's ceilings by night, both celestial bodies created by unicorns. Also, clouds are frequently brought down the tunnels by pegasi to further this illusion (Also for cloud sculpting).

Tamed Animal: Due to the primarily passive nature of the ponies living in Dulcecho they rely on their tamed Quarray Eels to protect them in the case of emergency, said eels navigating the tunnels with ease.

Purpose: Have you ever seen the TV Show 'Eureka?' Well imagine that but instead of focusing on Science, the ponies focus on Art. However, the definition of "Art" is left open, letting those who practice the "Art" of Plant Genetics or the "Art" of Quantum Mechanics or the "Art" of Kung Fu do whatever it is they need to further their one true talent.

Ah, also, not all hyper-intelligent or hyper-creative ponies are let down here, also those who's Cutie Marks are incredibly unique or who's talents are slightly dangerous (The "Art" of Nuclear Power, for example).

As it stands, everypony does something, typically something befitting of their talent, however a good amount of ponies will do menial jobs in order to give themselves something to do, meaning you might be surprised to see a unicorn cleaning a building or a pegasus weeding a garden.

The results from the pony's work will be sent back to the rest of the world with not only a Seal of Dulsecho but also recognition for the pony who created it.

    39. Obviously the mouth of a river that is nestled between a temperate mountain range is the most logical place to set up a civilization. It can easily become a port for which to become a central hub for trade and commerce. The river will nourish the farmlands that the Earth Ponies will cultivate while also encompassing the main fishing grounds. The forests provide lumber for houses and boats and anything else made of wood. The mountains themselves are most likely filled with ores and gemstones which Unicorns would use for their alchemical properties as well as sell them for money. The Pegesi, in addition to their weather control duties would tend to the livestock among the many hills, cliffs and valleys. I imagine a Dragon would be most versatile for the defense of the city-state (in addition to aiding the Unicorn treasure hunts) but depending on how bountiful/dependent upon the river the society gets, a Sea Serpent may be of equal or greater value.

But that's all on a survival/make-ends-meet/live-to-see-another-day deal. I imagine once the town becomes established and safe, ponies will have more time to devote to their luxuries, hobbies and past times and once they find out what they have the means for, they'll cater back to society as a whole. Given the landscape and surplus resources, I can easily see the town becoming a hub for recreational watersports/hiking/camping/rock-climbing/zip-lining and other general outdoorsy activities. The more developed areas of town can easily accommodate fine dining establishments versed in local recipes, while also playing host to shops that sell the ingredients and final products of the Pony's work, be it jewelry, produce or otherwise.

      *bricked*
Ow! Alright, no purple prose. The capital will be a large settlement of ground-level treehouses surrounding a massive tree with a trunk the size of the main square of Ponyville, with the inside of the trunk and the lower branches carved out and built open to form the main palace complex.

      2) My nation will tame Timber Wolves, which will be used as sentries and to help ponies exploring in the forest.

      3) The society's primary focus will be developing and perfecting new forms of nature magic. Specifically, the Unicorns and Earth Ponies will work closely together to find ways of incorporating Earth Ponies' latent earth magic into Unicorn magic, shaping and terraforming the landscape in a way that doesn't disrupt the natural order of things. The forest will be gradually altered, thinning out the trees around settlements to make it possible for Pegasi to fly in and out of the forest.

Pegasi will form the majority of the trade caste - each settlement will focus on a specific form of industry best suited to its location, and the Pegasi will operate the trade caravans that fly between the settlements. A centralised Pegasus cloud city of some kind from which the trade network is administrated would be considered as an option if the Pegasi prefer not to live in a forest.

Earth Ponies will primarily be the farmers and industry workers, as usual, however many unicorns will have the job of magical consultant and researcher for a specific industry - they will develop new methods of using magic to assist Earth Ponies, with the focus being on opening new ways for Earth Ponies to do their work, rather than removing the effort from existing work that the Earth Ponies have no trouble with - for example, one of the first major projects will be developing new breeds of trees that serve as crops - hay trees, and apple trees as tall as pines, that sort of thing.

Beyond those major roles, ponies of all three breeds will be free to take up roles as shopkeepers, doctors and other basic societal requirements according to their calling in life. The country will be run by a council of ponies which are elected by myself every 5 years (If I have reason to believe they are grossly abusing their authority, I will disband and re-elect the council prematurely). While I will be informed of the council's decisions, and be present to approve all major laws and edicts, my primary focus for the first few years will be to travel around the fledgeling nation, putting my magical might to use in construction of major projects such as dams and irrigations systems that need to be completed before settling can begin.

    43. 1. I would create a city inside a hollowed out mountain/inactive volcano that is open at the top. The mountain would have to be so tall that a pegasus could not fly in, the air would be too thin to breathe. It would also be magically guarded against entry via teleportation/other magic. The city would be in tiered rings around the edge of the hollowed bit, with a plaza of sorts in the middle.

      2. Diamond dogs, as they would be used to the underground environs and capable of if not fighting off invading forces, at least sending warning to the main city to collapse the tunnels connecting to the attacked area.

      3. We would mine out rare gems and ores, use them to create works of art and arms and armor or polish them to a shine, and export them to neighboring kingdoms in return for food/wood/whatever else we can't find here.

As for the unique roles of the 3 types of pony, earth ponies would be responsible for the main mining, digging new tunnels, and expanding the city as needed. They would also serve as guards. Unicorns would use their magic to find gems, telekenisis to create the more intricate pieces of art, and the few in the military would support the earth ponies with defensive spells and quickly relaying messages. The pegasi, being naturally inclined to avoid underground spaces, would be the city planners/designers, spending most or all of their time in the main city, maintaining it and maintaining decent atmosphere inside the crater. If the mountain is large enough (oh wait I'm an alicorn of course I made it large enough) They can have small-scale weather inside to liven things up and allow some of the earth ponies to grow somehting to eat other than mushrooms.

4.the strongest earth ponies will use their strength to make caves in the sides of the mountains while they have the unicorns help make the caves safer and easier to inhabit. Pegasi will take care of provisions by gathering food and supplies from the ground. pegasi will also carry some earth ponies who know enough about herbology down. a minecart shall be constructed from the base of the mountain to a drop off zone close to the caves above. a farm will be made on the ground so we can have a steady amount of food. water will be provided from the pegasi as they gather water from the clouds. unicorns can just take any job that they think would help. i don't like unicorns all that much.

    46. Eventually, room WILL run out on the planet. This is why I, Si Fron Namasuke, OC Avatar for this commentor, would take the next obvious step: SCIENCE!
Magic is good and all, but it is severely limited to ponies who either have horns or, as demonstrated by Pinkie Pie's transportation mastery, freakish amounts of built up magic. Not to mention, unicorn magic and even Alicorn magic only reaches its truest potential in a predestined field.
Therefore, Unicorns shall use their magic for control over tiny objects like circuit boards and microchips (once they have been invented) to assemble complex technological machines, Pegasi shall use their innate weather mastery to make sure the weather is optimal in key areas and to create testing simulations in other areas, and only the most powerful and magically attuned Earth ponies shall be allowed in order to maximize crops (Gotta eat, after all) and, more importantly, to artificially grow and reproduce the necessary minerals and ores necessary for developement, seeing as how a rock farm would have no purpose unless both Earth pony magic allows for artificial growth AND the rocks grew and developed the valued ores that science requires and dragons eat.
Speaking of Dragons, they shall be our domesticated allies, for their fire allows both rapid relay of messages until the internet is invented and their normal fire would be useful for smithing and welding. A portion of the mineral farms would be allocated to feeding them so they will not starve and turn to meat as a viable alternative and their eventual size and natural evolutionary adaptations would provide for excellent military defense should something like that be needed, although I would be very saddened if it was.
As for the location, a place with plenty of lakes and plains would be ideal, since plains would require minimal sculpting to suit scientific benefits, although a mountain for excavation of the initial supply of minerals and an eventual home for fully grown dragons would be required.
Education, while being balanced in other areas, would promote scientific studies primarily with Magic as a companion (after all, it is the ultimate tool when the technology is lacking for a job. Magic just simply can't be relied on for EVERYTHING, just some things), and maybe social sciences being promoted underneath it in order to prevent scientific sociopaths/introverts.
As for everything else, an even balance of every little necessary thing aught to suffice, although the governing will be primarily taken care of by me until the population is sufficient enough to have the necessary positions be filled, in which case I will gradually relinquish my governmental power to the new employees.
The ultimate goal is space clearly, but if it turns out the universe around Equestria actually has limits and there is less than 42 light-minutes of space to explore, I may decide to 'borrow' the elements of Harmony and/or Discord's statue to power a space expanding super spell to give Equestria a bit more breathing room and a few extra planets/planetary bodies. Hope Celestia won't mind if it comes to that.

3.) Theoretical forms of advancement of equestria daily life

There would be 3 elected representative from each type of pony to meet for the groups needs.

There will be small teams consist of at least one of each try of pony used to explore the surrounding areas for new resources.

Each pony is required to take a test determine where they will be sent for research.

Any pony may opt out of research but find a suitable replacement career which is approved by the counsel.

Earth ponies: control mostly hydroponics and maintain food supplies as well testing in gene testing.

Pegasi: maintain the weather when needed but mainly test experimental forms of weather and creating new ways of transporting cargo.

Unicorns: would supervise each of the studies as well research inter dimensional travel and more dangerous forms of research.

      3. Societal focus on SCIENCE. More specifically magic technology re: enchantment & engineering, with research in spacial physics, metaphysics, archeology, and history.

    59. In a cold desert oasis, short on resources and on the furthest geological location from Trantor... I mean Canterlot... I shall found Terminus. Where we may assemble the Encyclopaedia Equestria in peace.

The ponies of Terminus shall tame and control Parasprites, for reasons which shall become clear as The Plan unfolds.

While our primary task is the assemblage of The Encyclopaedia, in the hopes that it may shorten the next era of Discord, The fundamentals of life must be looked after. We are so short on basic resources and thousands of miles from any settlement or civilisation we shall need to develop hyper-efficient technolgies, particularly in the field of food production.

We will also eventually need to be able to trade, so we must also develop means of transporting goods massive distances at speed. Eventually, the great trader dirigibles of Terminus, the likes of which have not been seen before, will be a beacon across the planet.

While the greatest scholars and scientists of all pony races will work on the Encyclopaedia and on our two other great undertakings there are some tasks which some races are better suited to than others.

Earth Ponies and Unicorns will be tasked with the creation and upkeep of our great city, working together to farm, build and create. This will be no easy task given our limited numbers We will require the Pegasai to assist let the harsh environment destroy our initial crops.

The airborne Pegasai will also be tasked with patrolling the wilds around our city as. Our isolation I hope to be our greatest protection in the short term, but should an enemy come upon us we will need all the warning we can get being weak militarialy.

Pegasai will also be required to scout for suitable positions for satellite settlments once our numbers grow and for trade routes to nations far away. I do not expect to see either of these events within my lifetime however.

Once I am gone, I expect and predict that the seemingly more central role played by the Pegasai will result in a burgeoning class structure, a power struggle and Terminus's first Seldon Crisis...

      ...I really hope at least somepony is getting the reference ^^;

    60. Only 60? The genetics are good for the short-term, but 500 are needed to ensure long-term genetic survival. I think.

    61. Seth, I think you've forgotten (or never learned) that 250 breeding pairs are necessary for a species to survive without inbreeding, but whatever, I'll play along.

The planet on which Equestria resides is, for starters, brimming with resources, therefore the cleverest location would be in a plain-y region, near a river or lake, or in a hilly location, preferably on the ground, with forests and minerals close at hand as 'legendary' locations such as Rapture or random Sky Cities have the distinct disadvantage of having to either import their food and water or collapsing into a slug-obsessed dystopia.

Earth ponies, due to some innate magic or whatever, would in all likelihood be the farmers- working the land to feed everyone. Also, evidence suggests that they breed faster than the other varieties, so, y'know...

Pegasi would find their uses as couriers, weather managers, racers (panem et circusi) reservists, and otherwise a reserve pool of labour. Most of them would serve as second-rate farmers and carpenters (considering we have already tamed a species to defend ourselves, and we need all the food we can get)

Unicorns, by necessity rather than by cultural boundaries, would serve as precision artisans and scientists, essentially performing all the maintenance and background work that keeps the colonization effort running smoothly such as keeping records, making predictions, and other jobs deferred to the intelligentsia.

Although this would be the initial state of affairs, ponies would be 'shuffled' around to make maximum use of their skillset, e.g. : An exceptionally academic Earth Pony would take a unicorn's responsibilities, a Pegasus who serves as a better farmer than speedster would be moved to the farm crews, and an exceptionally talented Unicorn lumberjack would be deferred to the construction crews.

As for a tamed, defensive creature, the best option seems to be Manticores, which are receptive to domestication (see ep. 1) and not intelligent enough to rebel, unlike dragons and diamond dogs who would probably just run off at the first opportunity

I'd probably do what I always do- Make sure nopony fight each other and science, but with my new alicorn powers, I could throw up some buildings and tear down some trees here and there to generally make life a lot easier on the other ponies, and get rid of my 'royal' leadership role the instant that the ponies can comfortably agree on who should lead them.

Considering that last line, I'd bet that they'd pick me. Bastards.

Oh, and I'd write letters to Celestia bragging about how much better my country would be/is/was.

    67. Firsty I would make a ground settlement and have the Pegasi build a cloud city. Then I would have the unicorns find a way for earth ponies and them to be able to create a sky city for them to live on.
The earth ponies would do te engineering and other labours.
Once the Sky City is complete we will start manufacturing Air Ships to have a small fleet and have Cruise Air Ships to go all over Equestria as well. The Unicorns will start research on Space.
I would have dragons to protect the Sky City and have Timber Wolves protecting the farms below.
(sorry bit all over the place as I did this on my phone and it bugs out a lot)

    69. 1. Hilltops, perfect for aerial defensive systems, but not as high as cloud cities that are a more potential (and easier) target for the enemy.
      2. Winged dragons, perfect for aerial combat, ground attacks and recon.
      3. The world's defensive perimeter.

Earth ponies will be tasked to grow food and maintain the land of the country. Pegasus Ponies will be a staple to the military, and unicorns will have mandatory high education in magic and other academical subjects. However, life of harmony is maintained, and all three races are free to socialize with one another.

Citizens are still allowed to roam free like other ponies, even those in the military. Harmony and magic will be maintained, however by the time of war, dragons will take the stage first, backed by fighter-pegasus. Skilled unicorns will have themselves supporting the pegasi troops by planning tactical missions and also operating heavy artillery, while those who had proved themselves will be grouped with a pegasi special task force for special operations. Earth ponies will have the main role of providing food to the army, while some can accompany the Unicorns while operating heavy artillery.

Some academically talented unicorns, earth ponies and pegasus will belong to the governmental offices, with the most talented of them ended up developing superweapons to protect the world.

    71. (Please note that I'm writing this w/o having the read the almost 300 comments already posted. So, if I end up making my pony kingdom exactly like yours, please know that it was all by chance, and remember, great minds think alike [and fools seldom differ])

      1) For my environment, I'll go with a nice tropical archipelago at least 50 miles away from any other land mass. Like Hawaii, except not quite so big. (I'm sure there is a country that's the perfect equivalent for what I'm looking for, but I'm too lazy, I mean, too preoccupied with other important matters, to go look it up.

      2) Since there haven't been any seaside episodes yet (maybe one near the end of season two as the weather warms up in RL?), I'll have to go with the only aquatic type beastie to be featured so far on the show, the hydra. It was that or the dragon, but from what I've seen, I think a hydra is physically strong enough that it could take a dragon in a straight up fight (of course, the dragon's flight makes it superior overall). That, and with my seclusion from other land masses making it very difficult for any organized attack, should make protecting my pony island paradise an easy task.

      3) As for the focus of our nation? Well, ponies are a friendly lot, so we'll be more than happy to share our wonderful home with others while making a tidy profit. That's right, tourism!

Division of labor: The pegasus ponies in my land will have the usual work of manipulating the weather, helping to not only ensure that our guests have the perfect holidays, but also making sure that the crops that feed everypony get ample precipitation. Those pegasi who would rather do something else would be employed as lookouts, using their flight to survey the area around our islands and watch for visitors, both friendly and foul. Earth ponies would once again see a large part of their work force being used to feed everypony (why fix what ain't broke, right?), while those with a more outgoing personality would be used as tour guides and innkeepers. The unicorns would find themselves tasked with exploring our new home to find the ideal spots to take visitors to, and also to help develop some unique styles of art, be it sculpture, music, poetry or what have you, in order to help give our culture that certain something that makes it unique from others, and helps bring in more guests. Also, they would be tasked with a very important field of study: Sea ponies, do they really exist? (SHOO BE DOO, SHOO SHOO DE DOO!)

All I'm missing now is a name for my new addition to the glorious kingdom of Equestria. Pending approval from Princess Celestia herself, I'll be using the name 'The Mareiana Islands'.

Defense Beast: Weindigo [ they feed on the hostility of others so any one with the idea to attack is gonna get froze.]

Primary goal. becomeing a weathy nation due to well balanced trade of raw materials from the mines that will be dug.

Unicrons can find new sites to mine for ore and gems they can also work to make the mines safer for the earth ponies and work along side of them in case of emergency situations. there will also be farms grown in the warmer seasons on constructed stepps on the mountain sides. The pegasus will be assigned to watch over the weindigo and as the ones to negotiate trade agreements for supplies and more horsepower were needed. With the unicorns creating the flying wagons for the pegasus the raw materials can be taken out of the mountain area to where the trades will take place with no real issues with any snow or other travel problems caused by ground transport.

    75. My colony would be at the top of a mountain with a scenic view. Seriously, it would be more beautiful than the view in Canterlot, or anywhere else, for that matter. There would be a tame forest nearby (not like Everfree) called Songflower. It would be filled with beautiful plant life, most of which would be edible, the herbs would be plentiful and rich with flavor waiting to be added to any food. Closer to the village, there would be a mountain spring. No, there would be no fish in it, and the water would be pure and clear. All the fish would live in another pond, where we would gather water plants. Again, everything is absolutely beautiful.

Now, for defense, there would be a dragon. A majestic, giant dragon with glittering purple and white scales and ice blue eyes. His name would be Acuzio. (Can you tell who my favorite pony is?) All the villagers would know Acuzio and get along well with him.
Our primary goal would be to bring art and beauty to the lives of ponies. Any type of art would work. We would also have other goals, such as in the fields of language and science. We would research a way to allow communication easily between languages, be it animal to pony or even zebra to pony. There would be no need for a translator, the device built would handle all the work. We just need to figure out how to build it…

The unicorns would search for gems in the rocky soil to feed the dragon and to decorate the city with. Most of the houses would be built by Earth ponies, Unicorns, and pegasister together out of stone. Therefore, no threat of being burned by Dragon's fire. Earth ponies would do the little farming necessary. Most of the food would be found in Songflower, after all. Pegasi would control weather, along with much of the postal service. Unicorns would oversee the making of Celestia's giant stained glass windows in the royal palace as well.

Utopia in a decade? Ha, that can be achieved in three years here. Oh yeah, much of our revenue comes from tourists coming to experience th amazing culture experienced in Songflower Village. We also export many of our art and gem goods to Celestia and other colonies.

    79. I decline the offer. Too much responsibility. But if Celestia forced me to do it or if Luna asked with a smile...

      I'm calling my kingdom "Haytheia".

Flat lands, mostly. Good for farming, probably has a couple rivers through it, plenty of nice even ground for building on. Maybe a mountain range and a lake not too far from the capitol. Of course, there has to be a second Cloudsdale (Stratus City?), a few smaller towns and a capitol to nearly rival Canterlot. I'd like there to be an ocean nearby with an island miles off-shore (more on that later), something the Equestria ponies will come to see.

I wouldn't tame any animals. My subjects can do their own work, it's possible to keep dangerous animals out of the towns and as someone said, ponies are peaceful. Who would we need protection from?

My society will encourage and ideally be known for the arts. Any fillies and colts will have as part of their education music classes in the instrument or device (like turntables or their own voice) of their choice, one semester of visual art (including writing). And dozens of others would be available as electives. There will be college and it won't require a lot of things ponies don't need for their careers. You want to be a singer? You take voice and music classes. That simple. Which isn't to say nopony will know math or science or how to talk right good. Just that once their basic education is out of the way, my subjects will be allowed to concentrate on what they want to be.
With so many artists around, the towns themselves would be like museums. Paintings by earth ponies, cloud sculptures, music coming from the open windows of cafes as you trot by, interesting and varied structures.

Maybe most significantly, my society will introduce to the world the miracle known as...MOVIES! Cinema! The movin' pictures! Not only would this revolutionize pony entertainment and generate tons of revenue, but it would also attract talent and inspire perpetual improvement. And animation! Once Equestria has theaters too, they can have cartoons! The fillies and Pinkie Pie will enjoy the comedies and the older ponies will like our distinctive, action-packed "Haytheianimation" or "haynime".

Now, on to how the country is run. Revenue is largely taken care of thanks to art revenue and basic taxes. The smaller leaders, like mayors, will be elected by popular vote. Same with judges. Crime isn't too big a problem with ponies, so 3 in each town, maybe 5 for the capitol, should be able to handle it. If I catch one being corrupt, they go to the island, which will be contained by a team of unicorns and/or technology. However, I'll make sure a few pegasi keep the weather there right for growing crops and I'll send them some seeds and tools as needed.
Laws will be kept to what's necessary. Violence, theft, businesses/government responsibility/accountability and pay your taxes. Thats all the laws we'd need. None of this "ducks must wear trousers on Sunday" crap. I have final say in proposed new laws and my advisers will explain bills to me if I don't understand them. Hey, if she didn't want an idiot in charge, Celestia shouldn't have appointed me!

Day to day will be similar to Equestria. Pegasi manage the weather, earth ponies do mostly farming and unicorns do things that would normally require hands. Unlike Equestria, Haytheia will have a nightlife. Clubs, midnight screenings, that kind of thing.

Nightmare Night will be celebrated, Hearth's Warming will have an equivalent. I'll probably add a few more holidays, likely ones based on Valentine's Day, New Year's, Thanksgiving (this time thanking Celestia for handing me a country and 90 citizens) and April Fool's Day. And maybe a Discord's Day, in which everypony does a job for which they're unqualified or something. Winter Wrap-Up will permit use of magic.

I'd step out onto the balcony, let my subjects clop their hooves for a moment, then raise my hand or hoof to quiet them. 87. I came up with a first draft, and it wound up being the premise of "Our First Steps." So, redo:

Harmony through independence. That is the goal of Altaita. We will develop hydroponic and areoponic growing methods to help unicorns in urban sprawl and pegasai in the clouds be able to farm their own food, and to help earth ponies grow in harsh environments independent of unicorn and pegasus assistance.

In order to develop this, the goal is to have a rough environment, with plenty of water, and a small space that will quickly develop into a wet cityscape. An island with few sunny days at all would be best (What humans call the Caroline Islands would be an example). The city will grow with raised, covered walkways and cartways between buildings. Eventually, growth of food should be sustainable even if covered from the sun by artificial means, as all available land is converted into city dwellings for our growing population.

For defense, sea serpents will be called upon, so long as they are all not as fragile as those met by the Bearers of the Elements of Harmony in the Everfree. If they are such a race, Parasprites could provide defense in the closed quarters.

About one-third of the unicorn population will manage business and financial affairs, one-third to developing artificial growing light spells, and one-third to other professional labor needed in a city. Half the earth ponies will make up the farming and upkeep of farms, with the other half maintaining businesses needed in the service industry. A third of the pegasai will maintain the weather, keeping a perpetual rain from becoming a storm; half will go towards business measures suited for pegasai, such as transportation, support, and sales jobs requiring fast travel; a small cadre remaining will help oversee the construction, as integrating weather is key, and the small surface area will require the population to eventually grow into high-rising buildings.

Soon, Altaita will shine with high buildings beaming with artificial suns, as our plants grow inside in media of water and air. For the good of Equestria, we will create Harmony through Independence.

    89. I would settle my ponies in a secluded and quiet river valley with plenty of fertile soil and a swift river to provide plenty of fresh water and power for mills. Ursa Majors would provide the front line of defense against foreign enemies while Ursa Minors would keep the peace at home.

As the smartest and best ponies, unicorns would lead lives of luxury and ease in my society. All unicorn children would receive mandatory schooling through adolescence, and university would be free to those who could pass the entrance exams. Those with enough ambition and skill would be my ministers and take care of the day to day tasks of running my civilization. Unicorn authority would be maintained through control of the wealth and Ursae. With no financial concerns or mundane responsibilities unicorns would be able to focus on improving themselves and society though the study of the arts or through magical research, or on simply just enjoying their position as the elite.

Pegasi would handle weather control, logistics, and skilled labor. A portion of the pegasi population would be conscripted at a young age to serve in the military and as low level bureaucrats. Captives would be taken from leading pegasi families to serve the unicorn elite. Grade school and vocational training would be available to those who could afford it.

The filthy earth ponies would handle the farming, mining, trash collection and all other distasteful manual labor. They would be kept low through a brutal system of sharecropping and indentured servitude. Earth ponies would be forced to live in slums and hovels as befitting their earthly nature, without basic amenities such as running water. Such things are best reserved for those ponies who can actually understand their function.

Dissidence from any race or group would not be tolerated. Censorship would be rampant and crackdowns brutal. Eugenics would keep the pegasus and earth pony populations from becoming too large. Fear of the unicorn secret police would be surpassed by only one thing: me, the ponies’ Glorious and Supreme Benefactor! As their god Utopia is what I say it is. If somepony disagrees with me, well then, they can just go the re-education camps.

I suppose the main building force will be unicorns because of their ability to use magic. The rest can bring supplies to the selected area. Or maybe the unicorns could drain or move the water to another another location using magic and then bring it back when the city is complete, me thinks.

    100. Only one alicorn in the nation? That's not fair. We need to expand the alicorn population.

    101. Find a coastal region with a large inflowing river, preferably forested, but plains are acceptable as well.

Use nearby available resources such as stone or lumber to begin preliminary work on temporary structures until a planned infrastructure can be erected. Earth ponies to construct infrastructure such as wide roads and farms. Unicorns to assist in construction. Docks constructed and boats are made for fishing/shipping/exploration. Construct trade network.

Divide the land and zone them for specific purposes such as farming or industry. Plant crops with a high yield of edible crops(such as rice). Use extensive irrigation further inland to keep crops watered (redundant system as Pegasus ponies will provide weather control). Promote hard work as a virtue, and discourage mechanization of farmland to allow for a large population working in the farms. (a jobless population is a dangerous one) Promote the use of magic to assist in farming.

After a stable agricultural base is established, construct the beginnings of an industry such as lumber and grain mills. Expand city along a grid system. Construct industry besides the river and power it using water wheels. Encourage cash crops. Make a consumer based economy by producing luxury/exotic goods. Produce comfort items, and construct mines for metals and minerals. Begin mass production of goods including books.

Construct schools and encourage literacy and learning. Fund research and development of technology. Aggressively provide for magical development for practical use and the understanding of magical theory. Provide for cultural revolution and sanitation by providing public works. Emphasize nation funded exploration to discover new lands and gather resources. Provide for a strong sense of nationalism by doing humanitarian (equestritarian?) works to provide for the sick and disabled. Build high energy producing plants (fusion preferred)

Begin constructing heavily urbanized cities using steel and Pegasus ponies as advantage. Build efficient electric grid. Make way for teleportation hubs for quick transportation. Find a way to communicate quickly. Build sky cities accessible to all ponies by the way of floating buildings.

Open diplomatic corps to negotiate with other civilizations (if any exist). To delegate powers and administration, split the nation into governmental sectors, splitting in such a way that each sector contains all three of the major pony races to promote national unity. Provide for elite military, using police to keep the peace. Separate the government to several branches of administration, Judiciary, Information and Technology, Economy, and Military.

    102. I would rule a Manehatten/Canterlot type civilization. We would worship both Luna and Celestia as our gods. Everyone would get a dragon when they are a few months old (about 12 in human years)that they will raise as their companion. We would focus on The Arts. Unicorns would be artists and actors. pegasusususus Would work backstage, (lighting, curtains [they could also be actors]) do cloud art, and flying techniques (like the wonderbolts). Earth Ponies would do flower arrangements, act, and farm.

      ReplyDelete
    103. I would totes build and enchanted city in the sky in a mountainous region and focus on studies of magic, along with dragon companions.

Dragons will be treated on equal grounds with ponies, and any dragons wishing to pursue a career as a magician or fighter, will be supplied with their own educations and training.

The city in the sky will begin being built on the ground, using rocks, ore, etc. from the mountain region it is located in. Once the city's foundations are built, we will begin intense teachings of magic to all unicorn ponies, focusing on telekinesis and enchantment. After that is said and done, we will begin training our dragon companions to fly and utilize their senses so they may survive up in the sky with us. Once the city is upheld with a powerful magic enchantment, I would assign unicorns to make sure it stays that way up in the city and down on the ground. Pegasi will act as guards, scouts, hunters and scavengers etc. Earth ponies will be relied on as cooks, farmers, and messengers.

It would pretty much be like a magical pony colony building up to be something like Hogwarts or Dalaran.

      We are Awesome

    106. Oh my, sounds like Dwarf Fortress playthrough. I recommend starting with Lazy New Pack - it has pretty graphics out of the box. There is even a pony mod for that game.

I'd probably go for 'organic growth' community.

Terrain: Meadow / sparse forest on some hills with a brook or a river as a water source.

Defense: Bears (they would also help Earth Ponies with heavy lifting), palisade around village, Pegasai scouts, train some Unicorns and Pegasai as guards. Whatever else is locally available and tamable would also be goo. Finally, Griffin mercenaries.

Society focus: Self-reliance. Our supply lines are stretched after all. Have all basic industries at hoof, import more advanced things from Equestria. Utilize whatever resources are locally available. For example if embark has lots of gems, then we should make jewelry, magical ingredients, energy weapons, talismans and the like. If embark has coal and iron and optionally flux stone, specialize in heavy industry. You get the picture.

Pony work assignments: within reason take advantage of their special talents and allow them some freedom in what they do. Thing is, if I get 20 freaking cheese makers and no cows, they will have to help with other things (but cows, goats and sheep will be imported later: good quality cheese can be traded). If a Unicorn wants to work in agriculture, or a Pegasus in construction, and is reasonably good at it, that's fine of course.

Earth Ponies: Agriculture, forestry, construction, mining, transport (when we have roads), various industries, guards.

Pegasai Ponies: Weather service, scouts, mail, transport, caravans, trade, guards.

Unicorn Ponies: Various jobs requiring mechanical precision, administration, helping however they can with magic, prospecting, guards.

First order of business: cut some trees, build shelters (they are to be converted to warehouses after we get proper homes). Forage for food, set up farms, make alcohol. Send prospector teams with escort to look for whatever resources and threats are in the area, draw maps. Build a fenced area for foals with a school (we want to keep them from harm before we get that stockade around the settlement). Find stone and make some furniture (that was a joke).

Second order of business: Construct the town proper. We need homes, warehouses, stockade around village, maybe specialized buildings for town hall and businesses, granary, wells, furniture, and whatever else is needed. Set up basic industries: wood and furniture (paper too?), stone and masonry, farming and preserving food, cloth making (maybe not essential, but helps morale, ponies like pretty clothes), alcohol and salt, blacksmithing and metal crafting (import metal if not locally available, but the ability to fix something, turn scrap int something new or make whatever is needed at the moment is useful), mill, restaurant, bakery, school, library, power plant, temple, glass blower, and whatever else is needed or seems like a good idea. Establish diplomatic relations with neighboring intelligent races. Tame and train some animals. Train guards and send patrols. Build a system of ditches to keep the water on those hills to help farms.

After that celebrate, and give ponies some time off for working so hard. Invite one of the Princesses for inspection, and listen to suggestions. From this point on there would be less emphasis on centralized government and state ownership. There would also be a standing policy of building sturdy things and fixing them and not overproducing to limit resource use.

      ReplyDelete
    107. Third order of business: Specialize. Utilize whatever resources are navigable at embark and if we have a surplus of some kinds of special talents, do that too. Export our produce. Send some gifts to neighboring intelligent races (only if that seems like a good idea, dragons, diamond dogs and such could get greedy, and expect more gifts). Establish satellite villages. Train some more guards as law enforcement. Trade with Equestria and our neighbors.

Long term: Keep population stable, be stewards to our lands. Have as little heavy industry and complex assembly lines as needed, and generally rely on craftsmares instead.

      ---

Notes: Cockatrices are a great risk, but if trained correctly, would be great for defense. Free statue garden is a bonus. They are also a source of stone in embarks with aquifer.

Dragons are greedy, flimsy and take forever to grow. Even a single dragon would be powerful, but I'd probably pass on them. Having something for 'Godzilla threshold' would be wise, tough. Maybe maintain friendly relations with local dragons.

Overall my concept seems like a nice backwater town. Our defense would probably be lacking, I'm not good at it in games.

Hardcore mode: Embark on a volcano with guard dogs, and practice !SCIENCE! with lava.

Bonus hardcore mode: Hoofington rises. (This is a reference to FoE: Project Horizons.)

A lot of people here seem willing to conquer Equestria, when the point is to build a settlement. Strange.

my land is a place deep into the mountains. we have tamed the wolfs to protect our lands in the mountains. we use mining to supply or economy to live another day. and thanks for the mining we have survived and gotten much larger. due to this more earth and Pegasai ponies come to our land. unicorns included but not as much. in a matter of months we are the 3rd largest city in equestria. within a couple of years we gotten more modern(city scape gotten larger) skyscrapers all around the mountains. a advanced system of rail cars on dangling above thousands of feet into the air going into the different building that are atop the mountains. for a city that lives in the mountains nothing bad really happens. apart from the crime no one attacks this glorious due to the fact its in the mountains. on top the largest mountain in the center of the city of mountains sit a palace that was half stone and half steel starting with stone on the bottom and ending with steel on the top. a marvel of engineering thanks to knowledge of the ponies who learned how to build in the mountains themselves. and the one who sit in this incredible feat a Pegasus by the name of dusk. and this city he was to call his home is rockfall city.

    113. 1.) What type of environment would you like?

A seasonal river plain- think Indus River Valley, Tigris/Euphrates Valley, etc. Buildings will have to be constructed out of clay bricks. Crops that evolve to grow in seasons are the easiest to farm, making the colony's initial adjustment period simpler by virtue of needing less labor for farming in the short term.

2.) You can tame one type of beast that has been in the show so far for defense only.

Ursa Major. Their sheer size makes them formidable enough to discourage any would-be assault, even from other mythical beasts. Their size also makes them useful beasts of burden- digging irrigation channels, post holes, and foundations for larger structures. The unicorns will be the caretakers of these beasts, as it will take great magic to keep them tame.

Their use will be mainly in construction and infrastructure- digging foundations, clearing and flattening land, digging moats, ditches, and furrowing fields. Should the need arise, they can easily be converted into war machines.

3.) What is your society primarily going to focus on?
The pegasi will control the weather, as they do in Equestria. The unicorns will mostly be relegated to caring for the Ursa Majors, while a small subset of unicorns (ten or so) and the earth ponies will perform the farming and construction duties. Once initial fields are sown, half of the earth ponies will maintain them, while the other half and the group on unicorns will construct the infrastructure of the colony.

Roughly ten to fifteen pegasi will be assigned as scouts, initially following the main river in both directions to seek out new resources, such as fishing ponds, timber groves, or freshwater lakes to use as reservoirs. Once the river is fully explored, they will spread outward from the colony center, using at most ONE Ursa Major. Once a suitably large perimeter has been explored and mapped, the Ursas can get to work digging a moat around the colony, while the pegasi bring rain to fill the moat. This will serve as the main boundary for the colony. Over time, city walls can be built along the inner moat perimeter, effectively fortifying the entire colony.

With the initial stabilization phase completed, the crop availability of the colony can be expanded to include orchard fruits. Ursa use will expand to include mining and milling, providing stone and masonry for more permanent structures as well as ores for smithing into armor and building materials, and precious metals to be minted into jewelry and coinage. Surpluses of crop items and processed goods could be used for trade.

    115. I would have a giant underground cavern with a town in it we would mine rare and valuable materials for export to canterlot we would tame some ant lions to defend the town we focus on magic and alchemic innovations were so focused on magic that the ruling board is the triumphant board of Alchemy, magicks and beyond.

    116. Any thriving town needs a name. If this particular society ever grew so much as to have it's own country, the name of the land would be Hynnsil, with the shining capital city of Nomei.

      1) The environment for my civilization would definitely be in the forests. This ensures a bit of a tactical advantage against hypothetical attackers, making them drudge through wooded areas that my people would surely know well. This also ensures a bit of privacy, perhaps this won't be a bustling town that everypony visits, but it will be secluded enough to be out of the way, yet not so much as to drive everypony away. Being in a forest also allows easy access to wood to use as raw materials for buildings.

      2) The type of animals tamed would be, without a doubt, cockatrices. Cockatrices are small, and easily concealed in underbrush, making them the perfect sentries. Anypony who appears to be a threat can be easily pacified and brought into town to be restored, and thus it would be simple to repel small scale threats (aside from angry, pink haired pegasi). Unfortunately, they are much more sharply limited in terms of utility. They aren't as physically strong as the other beasts seen as of yet, though I like to think of them as being a bit smarter. Their size, however, gives them smaller scale utility, for instance, small claws can do precise working on mechanisms that would otherwise require a unicorn to work.

      3) This society would likely be a place dedicated to knowledge. Outsiders might see this location as a sort of a sanctuary for the learned, with great libraries and schools. This would only be a guideline, however, as everyday life would be similar to any other town for ponies with less scholarly ambitions.

Unicorns in this town would always be able to find something to do in addition to their personal jobs. In times of peace, precise use of magic is welcome for any kind of maintainence for buildings or machinery. If there was ever a threat, a magic user would be ideal for quick repair of defenses. A skilled unicorn is a welcome sight in Hynnsil, regardless of what their special talent may be.

Pegasi would be, obviously, in control of the weather. They would also serve as scouts and couriers in war, as well as aerial artillery. As we would be located in a forest, a clear tactical weakness in the concept of the city would be attacks from the air, thus a strong population of pegasi would be required to fend off such attacks should there ever be conflict. Pegasi would also be able to provide a convenient early warning in case of attack, being able to see extensively in every direction from their lofty homes. In times of peace, pegasi would be ideal scouts, and having a view of the forest from above helps to spot problems with the forest itself, such as a fire. Also, since our primary defense would be via cockatrice, pegasi scouts would also be in charge of finding petrified ponies and bringing them into town for restoration.

Earth ponies would have fairly straightforward tasks. As the physically strongest species, earth ponies in times of war would be ideal ground troops, fending off attackers that slip past the cockatrice sentries. When peaceful, earth ponies would primarily be farmers or laborers.

      (continued below)

      ReplyDelete
    117. (continued from above)

Should we ever find ourselves at war, our country is largely focused on protection. Withdrawing deeper into our forest gives an ideal defense strategy from any attackers. Our offense, however, suffers from this. As our cockatrice defenders function best if unseen, forcing them to leave the forest gives a distinct disadvantage, one hopefully made up for by magical and aerial artillery.

Conflict, however, is something that we would actively avoid. Ideally, we would be a place that welcomes anypony, especially those that seek knowledge.

Over time, this society would undoubtedly grow too large to be held in a single forest. Ideally, we would expand the forest as much as we could to keep our primary defenses strong, but this would not work for the long run. Any towns that are founded under our banner, but do not reside in our forests will have at least one single tree taken from the heart of the main forest and planted in the center of the town, so no settlements in Hynnsil will truly be separated from the forest. Speaking of our banner, our colors would be an oaken shield with a book in the center, colored light green with a black trim.

All in all, the country of Hynnsil, and it's capital of Nomei will be a safe haven to anypony who requires it.

    118. My idea of a Utopia is a Dystopia so I'd never be able to complete this but, a clan of murderous Pegasai and Unicorns would work for me. The earth ponies are all hidden and ready to kick ass but no one has seen an earth pony in 10 years after the great war the earth ponies all when't underground and started training their armies to put the destructive Pegasai in check, as I sit back in my chair and watch from the clouds above.

    119. I'd build an underwater bubble city- It would always be cool, there would be very little chance of fire or parasprites, and it would be hard for most ponies to attack. It would also look beautiful at night.

I would tame a few particularly large hydras- They would be at home in the water and be able to defend from more then one direction at once.

The town would not be particularly large. First I would need to focus on survival. However, after that ponies would begin doing three things- a. being scholars
      b. worshipping Luna.
      c. focus on peace.

Unicorns would be essential for the survival of the city, for they would have to create the walls of the bubbles and fix any leaks. I would have to regularly renew spells on them to make sure they were full of air, so they would be large enough for at least twenty houses, though probably more. In some small bubbles unicorns would have to create air themselves. Unicorns might also have to create lights- It would depend how deep we are.

Pegasi would have to handle the sea, preventing any storms large enough to endanger the town. They would also have to regulate weather inside- there would be a few traditional farms, but they would mostly be growing edible seaweed (do ponies eat fish? huh.). Pegasi would need to make sure the water temperature and level in these farms are correct. They would also bring rain clouds inside the house-areas, to prevent them from filling up with smog and to make sure the ponies have drinking water. Besides, they would look boring if there wasn't any rain to row plants. The town would have a lot of pegasi, because they have a lot to do.

Firstly, earth ponies would have to farm the seaweed, and a few chickens and cows for eggs and milk respectively. In the higher reches, with more sunlight, some shade-loving surface plants could also be grown. It would also be their duty to handle the hydra hatchlings, to make sure they don't attack the city.
The ponies would all go to the surface on little floaty islands each night to worship Luna, and everypony except the pegasi who bring in weather would avoid going outside during the daytime.
Lastly, the earth ponies would craft needed items such as cloth and horseshoes.

    120. 1. Forest with pitchblende deposits. Pegasus can fly above and recon. Earth ponies can do farming. Unicorns can cut down trees for a lumber industry, as well as start creating an underground fortress

      2. The spiders from "Luna Eclipsed." I have played Dwarf Fortress enough times to realize how effecive they can be in swarms (Giant Cave Spiders anyone /me shudders). As soon as a science department can be established, genetic modification of said spiders to be 10' tall, spit webs at 100ft, paralysis venom, and attack in packs.

      3. Focus will be on science and expansion (downwards first, as creating a suitable underground base capable of surviving multiple tactical rainnukes is essential, then out). Creating an industrialized society focused on advanced scientific research (involving genetic modification and orbital tactical rainnuke platforms). Give me 100 years, i will raise an army to take over equestia. Even if i do fail, only the diamond dogs will be ANY threat, as having a fully sustainable underground fortress (over 500ft underground with plenty of LARGE areas for pegasi) creates an impenetrable barrier.

Basically mix Lack of sleep, MLP, and Dwarf Fortress (replace goblin sieges with equestrian sieges (trolls with unicorns, giant eagles with pegasi, gobbos with earth ponies)) creates an awesome image in my head.

For those of you who havent heard of Dwarf Fortress, it is awesome and should be played often and your losses should be spectacular (I think last time i "accidentally" flooded hell with magma and i had 4 successive gobbo sieges up top, with a dozen or so forgotten beasts knocking on my cavern doors. Tantrum spiral and a boozesplosion took out 90% of my fort though). Link to it is here http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/

    122. Hmmmm, if I were upgraded to a status of Royalty...
Let's break it down into the 4 Royal Decrees Of The New Kingdom:

      (1) Location choice on the other side of Planet Equestria would be a vast fertile flat lands high above the sea level whilst enclosed and surrounded on the edges of the kingdom by tall mountains to protect against any unfriendly things. Said tall mountains are perilous to climb and would require magic to get to the new founded kingdom (see next part regarding flight into the kingdom) These tall mountains also act to provide natural incoming flow of fresh water from the higher parts that contain snow and ice, with the dual purpose that the ever lasting blizzards and snow storm in the higher mountainous regions prevents flight entry.

      (2) Keeping in mind that ponies are peaceful, and that the tall surrounding mountains could have taken care of flying and climbing invading forces of malicious intent, the one creature to tame for its usefulness would be the parasprites. Just borrow the magic from Twilight Sparkle and have it re-engineered to both annoy any enemies that do get pass the mountains to leave (so no one/no pony gets hurt), as well as having the parasprites to eat up any un-recyclable waste materials.

      (3) The new pony society will focus on creating tools and gadgetry that will benefit all 3 races, to the point that all have the strength of the earth ponies, the flight ability of the pegasi and the magical abilities of the unicorns. Essential, all 90 Ponies will be some sort of technological-gadgetry based alicorns so all are equals. No genetic modification involved. This would also break from the old traditional restriction where earth ponies purely are delegated to food production, pegasi in charge of weather management and unicorns in magical practices/academia.

      (4) To fulfill the goal of The Ultimate Utopia, which is to make this new Kingdom, dubbed New Equestria a successful nation, We will be referring to Royal Decree Number 3, that technology and gadgets be researched and made so all 3 races are as equals and on par with real Alicorns, keeping all 3 races of ponies at peace as well as making peace and good will with all non-ponies that we all welcome into our new kingdom.

    123. Late comment is late.
"The city of our nation? Hardly what I'd call this vicious place - to our folk, it's simply...
PONY HELL - a settlement which requires no support from the rest of Equestria, albeit it's very much a part of it.
Pony Hell accepts no visitors. Pony Hell offers no fancy places to visit or dress-markets to raid. So what's our purpose? It is to train - and to train others."

Pony Hell, located up high in the mountains a few apple orchards from Canterlot, is a self-sufficient conglomerate of several facilities called "Pits". Every one of them houses ponies of all three kind:
      - the unicorns, some of the highest ranking ponies in Pony Hell have the toughest task to handle: they are to collect individual Royal Guards, knock them out with their magic and transport them into Pony Hell, for rarely would a pony be willing to go through the training, even though it is to make them better protectors of peace.
      - the students are made up of the mentioned Royal Guards. They're treated by their temporary superiors as one would treat another, if harshly. They, however, are only allowed to leave on one account (namely: completing the training course)
      - the earth ponies and pegasi (as well as some of the unicorns) are the "teachers". Most of the work is done by the "students" themselves, although the former ones are also harsh on themselves to provide an example for the latter.

Each of these Pits is responsible for providing a different phrase of training. No failing - you cannot leave until you've passed. Everyone passes eventually. It's citizens, for the most part, were born here and returned after their ending their service in the Royal Guard or were invited for their exceptional abilities.
They persistently study standard academic subjects in 4 to 5 hours a day - this is obligatory until a citizen decides to leave or a student (Royal Guard stationed temporarily in Pony Hell) finishes the course.
Citizens unwilling to live this lifestyle can leave at their will or complain to the prince, but due to their moral views this rarely if ever happens.

Oh, yeah, beasts. I guess anything would go that they can practice fighting against.
And Utopia? BUCK THE ROYAL GUARDS, this place isn't to become the utopy of Equestria, it is to ensure that, later on, said utopian view can become a reality.

    127. 1.) Icy tundra between two mountains. Building an ice city!

2.) Wendigos. Not only to help make sure the buildings don't melt, but to maintain icy temperatures.

3.) Focusing on magic, architecture, collection of knowledge in general.

Unicorns initially would have to help with building, but would soon move on to their main tasks of building design, making a section of the indoor ice farmable, knowledge cataloging and storage. A select few would become my personal guard once population picks up.

Earth ponies help with construction and farming, naturally. Some more quiet and conservative ones could help with the library.

Pegasi would also start by helping build the initial shelter, then quickly move on to scouting and mapping the location. Long term they'd be responsible for keeping the storms back from the city and helping put things on high shelves.

Any individuals that wish to train the Wendigos may help with that task as they are tricky beasties.

As alicorn I'd naturally have a big ice palace, negotiate trade with Princess Celestia to benefit both our nations, make plans to expand and secretly plot to rule all of this planet.

    129. I would want a tightly-packet archipelago lost in the middle of the ocean, preferably on tropical or warmer-temperate climate and equidistant from two or more inhabited continents. These factors make the common folk be sea-faring, thus the greater population be masters of sea travel which, combined with the strategic location between the two continents, builds a solid foundation for a commerce-based civilization.
These ponies would most likely 'domesticate' sea snakes: as long as these smart creatures are sociable, the ponies could promote the creation of sea-snakes' settlements on the inner seas of the archipelago, and integrate them into the social and political life of the new nation. This would finally have us with a truly amphibious military machine that would make us as firm as a rock against any aggresor.
The settlement's objective would be as any others: for people to have families, eat well and live in peace.

    130. Thuis needs to be an ACTUAL GAME.

      1) Forest, with epic Minecraft-style cliffs. My people would live in villages of log cabins atop the plateaus, and fortifications would be around and just below the cliff edge. I would live in a moderately-sized manor built of clay bricks, with plenty of guest rooms for any visiting dignitaries / homeless ponies.

      2) Going to roll with Dragon for this one, though I'd prefer legions of pegasi mounted on Rathalos from Monster Hunter. For the most part, Pegasi are responsible for acting as the eyes, ears, shields and spears of my people, using the mountains and altitude to their advantage.

      3) Our society would be built around Sharing, an equal opportunity state. A pony's place in society is not governed by their race or special talent, but by what they wish and enjoy, or feel is their duty.

    133. I think I'll end up writing a fanfic about this.

      1. Enchanted sky city made of clouds, called Galesworth. The unicorns can cast spells upon the earth and unicorn ponies so that they can permanently walk on clouds.

      2. The idea I had was that everypony has a skywyrm (winged dragon) partner who stays with them most of the time. When there is a time of crisis or if Galesworth needs protecting, the skywyrms can gather where they are needed.

      3. This was the hard part. I decided the country would focus on bringing up nature from the ground and science. The earth ponies would grow the food in greenhouses, the pegasi would keep the weather under control and transport goods, and the unicorns would be labworkers and creators of technology. Of course, if an earth pony wants to work in the lab, they can do that. Their skywyrms will probably accompany them while they work, or train in the military. All of the species living there can explore the ground, although they have to be sent out by the alicorn to do so.
