I always figured they could. Why not? But it'd take a constant stream of decent power to levitate yourself for an extended period. Which would be exhausting.
What kind of weird genetics did those babaies have? Flying and magic while they are babies? Rarity and Twilight's magic magic magic 'came' to them as fillies.
I guess Scootaloo as terrible wings and can't fly.
Pound Cake making Scootaloo look really bad. He's also strong enough at one month old to drag a full grown Earth Pony around? WTF. Rainbow Dash, look out, Pound Cake gonna Rainboom all over the place.
Pumpkin Cake using telekinesis & dematerialization magic at one month old? Twilight Sparkle and Trixie got competition. Why hasn't Celestia shown up yet?
Okay, the Cakes' kids aren't geniuses. Twilight and Rarity said that baby unicorns get "magic surges that come and go", and presumably baby pegasi have a similar ability with their wings.
The Cakes said that "Pegasus and Unicorn foals have a heard time controlling their natural abilities". So it explains why the babies were capable of flying and performing magic so young.
Also, on Pumpkin Pie seeming to be so powerful. Keep in mind it's mentioned that baby unicorns have sudden strong urges of power. Probably similar to that one mishap with Twilight at the school. So she might be simply having some strong surges of power.
I think that the idea is that newborn foals are prone to strong outbursts of magic; Rarity and Twi said so themselves at the intro. Don't forget that Pegasi and even Earth ponies are somewhat magical, although to different extents.
Also something about responsibility and how hard it is to be a babysitter and not just talk on the phone and ignore the children while watching the family's TV like eighty five percent of the baby sitters out there.
Well Twilight and Rarity did say unicorns get surges of magic I doubt Pumpkin will remain that magically powerful. And I have no idea as to why Pound can fly so soon, everything about those babies is whacked though I mean their parents are earth ponies.
-Unicorn/Pegasus/Earth Pony can have recessive genes !
-The Cakes' babies like to ''Laugh at the Ghosties'' (white floor:kinda like a ghost ?)
-The Cakes' babies are/will be super-talented ponies, in the future. (though Rarity mentioned that 'baby unicorn' had bursts of magic, when young, or a thing like that... so, it might be temporary.)
-Babies' first word(s) are always so very touching. :)
While it's not a favorite episode, this ep made me laugh a lot, still a dang good episode! I like how pony genetics were blow away in a gratuitous "who knows" kinda way. And the very end of the episode? I had to grit my teeth and clutch my chest that was adorable! (and out of this episode I feel bad for Scootaloo...) Well worth the three dollars to buy it tomorrow like the other eps.
And thanks again FiM team for the great work you do!
@Diamond Tiara Fan Heh, I feel you; though I really think they handled the episode quite well, 'twas way better than I feared it'd be.
as for Scootaloo, I just remembered something: Human Babies can swim, but lose this ability and have to relearn it later in life; maybe it's the same for Pegasi and flying?
Scootaloo has hovered/zipped about the ground a bit without a scooter [Cutie Mark Chronicles I think], but can't outright fly yet.
Throwing my hat in with the "fillies do sporadic things with horns/wings as babies", especially since the episode itself foreshadowed it.
Enough canon talk, though. This episode was absolutely fantastic. Funny, straightly-played misadventures in babysitting conflict, Pinkie comedy at its finest, Shining references, PInkie songs, and about the most Dawww-inducing ending to date.
Sorry to inject some somberness into this sugar-fest, but did anyone else find Carrot Cake's expression when he "explained" why Pound and Pumpkin were a Pegasus and Unicorn highly suspect?
I have a feeling there's a fanfic on the horizon regarding the Cake's possible difficulties in procreation.
Well you have your opinion, that's fine. I happen to think it was funny. I've had to take care of twins myself and it ain't fun. But this episode was hilarious and over-the-top cute for me.
Well, they did say there would be power surges for baby unicorns. I figure they get really powerful and then after their magic settles into what they are best at.
So babies are OP and then settle down after they mature a bit.
I think the joke here with the babies being different races is that Mrs. Cake is doing more than baking with other bakers, if you know what I mean.
Also, these kids are beyond normal. Either that, they were made that way for the plot to drive Pinkie insane. Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle are normal in regards to maturation, and are not underdeveloped, if you ask me.
I can relate to what some of you are saying in regards to this not being one of their more favorite episodes. It wasn't mine either. But I can't say I really dislike it either. Then again, I don't dislike any episode. Pinkie was pretty silly during some of it of course, so there's that. :)
Great episode, but why were Mrs. and Mr. Cake asking Rainbow Dash to take care of the babies? Sorry Dashie, but I just can't imagine you as a babysitter, no hard feelings. Call me Twilight "Responsibility" Sparkle.
Hmm, it is possible that there is a brief window in foalhood when a pegasus' wing strength is sufficient for flight.
Then growth kicks in and their increasing mass overtakes their wing strength, (Scootaloo would currently be in this stage) and they will not be able to fly until their wings catch up.
Of course, this won't explain how Pound could carry an adult pony... But then again, can we really assume that Pinkie's mass is within the normal range?
To those saying its the "Surge of Power" mentioned at the begining a surge is a varry short but powerful show of power. while it was vary powerful it is also to long to be a Surge of power.
@Diamond Tiara Fan Yeeeeah ? Nevermind all the bits of information about pony genetics we get, some info about the early days of pony babies, the cuteness of Pinky Pie and the babies (especially at the end)... riiight ?
Ehhh, it was an alright episode but I'm going to lean to the side it wasn't that great. Baby episodes are always pretty predictable and this one was no different.
It does lay down a new rule in canon, Earth Ponies, Pegasus and Unicorns have been interbreeding for years. So, you can't say a Unicorn has Unicorn parents anymore and so on.
Question now, can Celestia and Luna have kids? I still wouldn't say they were born from normal ponies just yet, as the long life span isn't normal. Celestia and Luna are over a thousand years old.
@hoverhoof It has lead to several accidents, mainly due to the fact unicorns and other magical creatures don't have an aptitude for flight and end up...well, in undesirable states. Also, ask Celestia, I only have that reason.
Am I the only one who noticed that Pinkie never finished changing the kids' diapers?
Also, pony racial genes confirmed for recessive. Staying on the topic of canon, there are specific schools that pegasi and unicorns have to attend to learn to use their abilities, so I'm assuming that the kids in this episode were, in essence, flailing around with no idea what they were doing and managed to do it right just long enough to be a huge nuisance.
my guess: carrot cake is sterile and they had to use donated sperm. genetically the children aren't his, but damned if he isn't gonna love them just as much.
So, who else here was a little surprised to see a Trainspotting reference in this episode?
Anyway, it was a good one. Not great, but fairly funny and gave Pinkie something to do this season (Aside from acting like a random idiot). I liked how they called attention to how nobody on the show ever takes her seriously and just automatically considers her incompetent. Although, truth be told, she did go into the job woefully unprepared. Best part of the episode was the sudden turn for the creepy. That really elevated this from typically cute to the sort of stuff I expect from these writers.
Also, diaper changing with your mouth is the grossest thing ever on this show.
I think that was more a self aware joke regarding the intricacies, or lack thereof, of pony genetics. Possibly put into the show by the crew to address the issue of racial discrimination. Up to this point, we had only seen couples of one race with children of the same race. This is their way of showing that any pony could have ancestors of any race.
That's what I'm thinking as well. However, considering how big of a tear-jerker the first few minutes of Up were for a somewhat similar scenario, I just have a feeling someone could make a fanfic of equal tear-jerker level for the Cakes' predicament.
A pretty solid episode. It was a little stereotypical... though the twist of flying babies and magic babies... well... lets just say I don't see Pinkie Pie wanting kids of her own soon.
The only other nitpick is I'd have had Mr. Cake's father be a Pegasus and Mrs. Cake's mother be a unicorn. Otherwise it makes us wonder just what has Mrs. Cake been up to...
I see Poundcake as a Wonderbolt though... Kid has some serious wing power.
Yea, to me that explains why Pumpkin was so versatile in her power. AND it explains why Twilight could change ponies in to things when she was a kid too.
Episode had its moments, but I have to say I was expecting it to be better, perhaps my expectations of the Pinkie Pie episode was just too high.
I for one wouldn't mind never seeing those baby ponies again. Nearly every time I've seen a show use the baby plot I have been sorely disappointed. It just always seem so damn boring.
But hey, Pinkie being Pinkie is always great, and there was plenty of that.
Woah, that's a lot of canon. Ponies actually give birth (note Carrot's disheveled look and Cup's absence), and earth ponies can have pegasus or unicorn kids. Score one for the plausibility of the Derpy/Dinky fanon.
Poor Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo; either they suck or the little Cakes are prodigies; either way, they are outdone by toddlers.
The order the Cakes asked the other mane cast to babysit is quite interesting to analyze. Fluttershy first is obvious. But they also asked Twilight before Applejack, and Rainbow Dash before Rarity. I'm guessing they asked Twilight next since they figure Celestia's faithful student is by nature responsible and capable, then Applejack since she's reliable, down-to-earth and already has a little sister. Then they ask Rainbow Dash, who has no child care credentials whatsoever (to say the least), but who they still trust over Pinkie Pie, and only then they ask Rarity, who HAS a litte sister she regularly babysits for (well, has babysat for in the past, at the very least). But then, Rarity actually runs a shop herself and running a shop alone leaves you with very, very little time to do anything else. Babysitters get paid, but not nearly enough to offset the work hours Rarity loses for her boutique. The Cakes KNOW this, running a shop themselves, and that's why they asked Rarity last, knowing she would very likely say no. Otherwise she might have been asked before Rainbow Dash.
I think they have asked some other ponies they know off-screen, but in the interest of brevity and considering the mane cast ARE the main cast, that was left out.
There will be some interesting fanfic from this one. My current head-canon is that the Cakes were part of a long-term genetic engineering project, top secret and only Celestia knew all the details. [I won't posit a name, only because all of them that come to mind are quite NSFW.] These uber-foals were intended to become Plan B if Project Elemental Twilight failed to defeat Nightmare Moon.
it's been linked once or twice now. I think he did the animation beforehand, using the baby from Mare Do Well as a model. Then threw on the color at the last second when this episode aired.
is it weird that pinkie pie did a song about pigs and now she did something like a spider pony is in the same episode I see something here and i like it
Regarding Scootaloo vs Pound Cake's flight abilities, I wonder if pegasi wings grow at different speeds than the rest of their bodies.
If that is the case, then it is just a case of Scootaloo not having adolescent sized wings yet, so her (infant sized) wings are not powerful enough to lift her larger body frame.
Pound has infant sized wings on an infant body, so his wings are capable of allowing for flight.
Also, if Pegasi do use some sort of magic to allow them to fly, when their wings should not generate as much force as is necessary for the observed feats, such as the Sonic Rainboom, then maybe Pound was experiancing a magic surge similar to Pumpkin's surge, which allowed him to pull Pinkie around.
@Jimperator *sigh* I'll get in trouble for this. The sea ponies were relatively peaceful and sprung from alicorns like most races, but also from the mythical "sea-horses" in ancient times. They were a good fine people, but a misfiring of that spell during a delegation when the other three races knew of their existence caused them to fight over the Elements of Chaos. Long story short I didn't return to the ocean for a while.
Though i guess Pinkie could have it easier if she had Twilight help her. Looks like she has some experiences from Cantelot or cause of Spike. But it´s ncie to see some growth in Pinkie who sees that *caring is not playing*. Playing is just one part of caring for babies/little children.
Overall, cutest episode ever. Those babies were awesome. I still wonder why they´re a pegasus and a unicorn, but well, i go with Mr Cake´s theory. I mean *it makes sense, right?* XDDD
Obviously poundcake can fly better than scootaloo because toddlers have a better wing size to body mass ratio. (or because his parents love him) Magic surges make total sense, just like in Harry Potter. Good episode, the end reminded me that children are terrifying.
While I'm not a huge fan of babysitting theme episodes, I have to say it kept me smilling and laughing all the way, and I really liked the sequence where Pinkie fearing for them, superb. Also I call hacks.
I...I can't accept all of this as canon. Maybe it symbolized the trials Pinkie went through while caring for them, but when Pound Cake and Pumpkin Cake when all OP, I lost interest. Seriously, when you say, "unicorn foals have magical surges, it means a few sparks, maybe some telekinesis for three seconds. Not two whole minutes of deliberate, high-powered magic usage. Same thing for pegasi. Plus, the kids look too much like human babies, not ponies.
@Princess Luna ...ok now... The person being Discord is 'relatively' like Discord (not a hard thing to be, I would say), but you ? Princess Luna isn't like that. She doesn't throw random threats and ridiculous laws... also, levitation and telekinesis are essentially THE most basic magic/spells in pretty much any games. (politely said) Making any one of them ''bad'' or illegal would be like making the action of breathing a bad thing. -_-
Overall, I liked the episode, I would even say that it was above average for my own subjective tastes. It had Pinkie Pie being her usual kooky self and using that to help her with a very important and serious responsibility. The babies sudden magic and flying abilities at a month old genuinely shocked me more than once (phasing through solid matter?! self levitation?! gently flapping wings to remain walking upside down on the ceiling?!), but do not necessarily mean that they are prodigies, or that Scootaloo or Sweetie Belle are developmentally disabled. Pony genetics were (somewhat) explained and even though she is their only employee, and has proven herself a capable baker, the Cakes do not think Pinkie is responsible.

What unholy spawn of Satan are these children? O.O
ReplyDeletePound is totally destined to be a wonderbolt.
ReplyDeleteDarn unicorns being OP'ed...
ReplyDelete"I hope she knows not to give children too many sweets!"
ReplyDeleteI hope she knows not to let children shoot from party cannon.
Aww... =( Crying Pinkie...
ReplyDeletePhasing powers and super strong flying foals? Holy cow.
ReplyDeletePoor element of laughter.
Super-Mega babies !
ReplyDelete...I wonder why so super ?
Pumpkin for top tier unicorn!
ReplyDeleteI want dem pinkie kisses :3
ReplyDeleteUnicorns confirmed for being able to levitate themselves?
ReplyDeleteI always wondered about that.
@Nightweaver20xx Obviously not representative of the normal pony population
ReplyDeleteDAAAWWWWWWWW WHAT A CUTE ENDING.
ReplyDeleteOk, I d'awwed at the very end.
ReplyDelete@Mike
ReplyDeleteI always figured they could. Why not? But it'd take a constant stream of decent power to levitate yourself for an extended period. Which would be exhausting.
So pegasus and unicorns are just as strong as earth ponies
ReplyDeletebest episode ever!
ReplyDeleteThose foals were so powerful wtf lmfao...
ReplyDeleteVery touching at the end
ReplyDeleteIf a unicorn filly can levitate herself and phase through objects, what exactly can Twilight do with that?
ReplyDeleteUnicorns now confirmed for OP.
Well, the babies' first words 'Pinky' and 'Pie' is certain the Cute Point of the episode. ;)
ReplyDeleteEnd was sooo cute <3
ReplyDeleteand DAMN THOSE BABIES ARE OP WTF?
Time to watch it AGAIN WOOOO
ReplyDeleteMuch daaaaaaaaaaaaw was had this day
ReplyDeleteAlso, SO MUCH CANON!
My god, that was so adorable. I think I have a severe case of diabeetus.
ReplyDeletePretty good episode, not as good as other Pinkie Pie episodes, but still good.
ReplyDeleteImba babies! They should nerf them!
ReplyDeleteSweetie Belle and Scootaloo must be jealous...
who is the crazy pony that left pinkie pie with their kids?
ReplyDeletePinkie crying was heartbreaking... but more so was Scootaloo's disability... Jelfes is now very sad. qq
ReplyDeleteIts pretty amazing that one can fly, and the other can coherently use magic. It can even levitate itself. We haven't even seen twilight do that.
ReplyDeleteMaby scootaloo is like a flyingly challenged pegasis?
It's like they explain canon, just for us!
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of weird genetics did those babaies have? Flying and magic while they are babies? Rarity and Twilight's magic magic magic 'came' to them as fillies.
ReplyDeleteI guess Scootaloo as terrible wings and can't fly.
So much diabeetus in 30 minutes!! HNNNNNNNGGGGGGG
ReplyDeleteGood episode. I'm going to start using streams now.
ReplyDeletePound Cake making Scootaloo look really bad. He's also strong enough at one month old to drag a full grown Earth Pony around? WTF. Rainbow Dash, look out, Pound Cake gonna Rainboom all over the place.
ReplyDeletePumpkin Cake using telekinesis & dematerialization magic at one month old? Twilight Sparkle and Trixie got competition. Why hasn't Celestia shown up yet?
These two kids are beasts.
Pumpkincake wasn't OP, Rarity said baby unicorns get strange magic surges that come and go. Poundcake flying at his age was a bit off though.
ReplyDeleteWhen Pinkie cried, Chuck Norris cried too.
ReplyDeleteAnypony see Derpy in this episode?
ReplyDeleteWow. They really ARE super babies. Flying, teleporting, walking through walls.
ReplyDeleteAnother strong ep from Charlotte Fullerton
ReplyDeleteokay...
ReplyDeleteso, Pony Genetics are confirmed for completely random.
And Scootaloo is confirmed for worst flyer ever, I mean seriously...
All in all a nice episode, though not in my personal top 10.
I demand disabled Scootaloo fanart.
ReplyDelete@Quackers
ReplyDeleteRarity said baby foal unicorns have magic surges.
Such a good episode. Though they are some pretty advanced babies.
ReplyDeleteOkay, the Cakes' kids aren't geniuses. Twilight and Rarity said that baby unicorns get "magic surges that come and go", and presumably baby pegasi have a similar ability with their wings.
ReplyDeleteI have to admit: the ending made me smile so hard.
ReplyDeleteSo much new material to work with. Time to get working!
ReplyDeleteOh, and quite possibly the cutest episode yet.
This episode was AMAZING!! And cleared up so many canon questions for me!!
ReplyDeleteAlso.. UNICORN SELF-LEVITATION!! This has blown my mind in so many ways guys.
Yay! *is so giddy and happy* Excellent episode! Waiting for the Youtube link so I can download!
The Cakes said that "Pegasus and Unicorn foals have a heard time controlling their natural abilities". So it explains why the babies were capable of flying and performing magic so young.
ReplyDeleteAlso, on Pumpkin Pie seeming to be so powerful. Keep in mind it's mentioned that baby unicorns have sudden strong urges of power. Probably similar to that one mishap with Twilight at the school. So she might be simply having some strong surges of power.

ReplyDeleteOK, before the
"Baby can fly but Scoot can't?"
>Human babies are also capable of swimming, a skill they lose after a while :p Let's compare it with that.
"Baby has stronger magic than Twilight?"
>They mention that in the beginning of the episode: Strong, random outbursts of magic.
Imo: nothing wrong with those things :p
I think that the idea is that newborn foals are prone to strong outbursts of magic; Rarity and Twi said so themselves at the intro. Don't forget that Pegasi and even Earth ponies are somewhat magical, although to different extents.
ReplyDeleteThat was a much better episode than I had originally anticipated. Pinkie is pretty great. :D
ReplyDelete(also, render time!)
Sorry to be negative but I flat out hated that episode.
ReplyDeleteCan't believe a Pinkie Pie episode was a dissapointment but taking care of baby stroylines are never funny.
@Tora
ReplyDeleteWe've never seen Scootaloo fly. We've seen her use her wings for faster scooting, that's about it.
Or maybe Scootaloo is just 'slow' like how some kids can't talk and walk until much later.
ReplyDeleteso can twilight even do some of the stuff pumpkin just did
ReplyDeleteFinal concensus if everyone can agree with me.
ReplyDeleteTOOTH DECAY EPISODE!
Also something about responsibility and how hard it is to be a babysitter and not just talk on the phone and ignore the children while watching the family's TV like eighty five percent of the baby sitters out there.
I think we can chalk the babies doing what they did to The Rule of Funny though.
ReplyDelete@Winter Vision Not completely random, it takes centuries for magic decay to take effect on a blood line and the same goes for genes.

But let's wait for Xyro, shall we?
@MyBoyJ

Well Twilight and Rarity did say unicorns get surges of magic I doubt Pumpkin will remain that magically powerful. And I have no idea as to why Pound can fly so soon, everything about those babies is whacked though I mean their parents are earth ponies.

ReplyDeleteWho in the name of Celestia was Pumpkins ancestor, Start Swirl the Bearded?!?!?!? My god that was insane! In a good way.
ReplyDeleteAnd the baby unicorn can levitate... Have we even see twilight do that?
ReplyDeleteLevitation spells by telekinesis are forbidden if attempted, don't do it.
ReplyDeleteWhile it's not a favorite episode, this ep made me laugh a lot, still a dang good episode!
ReplyDeleteI like how pony genetics were blow away in a gratuitous "who knows" kinda way.

And thanks again FiM team for the great work you do!
RD did say somethin' about when he gets his wings going.
ReplyDeleteAlso, "Screw Physics, I'm Pinkie Pie" just got upgraded to "Screw Physics, we're the Cake Twins."
ROFL, Pound Cake is a better flyer than Scootaloo!
ReplyDelete@Princess Luna
ReplyDeleteah, finally, royal confirmation on it.
I laughed as everyone here mentioned the sudden surges of magic power around the same time. :P
ReplyDelete@asdfghjkl
ReplyDeleteEarly bursts of magic... Rarity mentions this at the beginning.
@Greenf0x
ReplyDeletejudging by pinkie's reaction, I'm pretty sure it is extremely rare for foals that age to be able to fly and use magic.
both those foals are prodigies.
@Princess Luna
ReplyDeleteOh u.

@Diamond Tiara Fan Yeaaaaah, I didn't super love it. I kind of don't like babies at all.

@wackypony At least somepony gets what I was saying, that stream was slightly annoying.

@Nova25 Hey...*runs out of comments room crying*
ReplyDeleteActually guys, I think Rarity said that baby unicorns have bursts of magic that can happen at anytime and that quickly disappear
ReplyDeleteAwesome, just awesome. Sad Pinkie is so sad( One of the best ever.
ReplyDeleteAnd nurse - she's great.
@Zero
ReplyDeleteI think that was more a self aware joke regarding the intricacies, or lack thereof, of pony genetics. Possibly put into the show by the crew to address the issue of racial discrimination. Up to this point, we had only seen couples of one race with children of the same race. This is their way of showing that any pony could have ancestors of any race.
@princess luna
ReplyDeleteI still think horn removal is a bit of an extreme punishment.
Good, now we have the newborn pony episode, a WAY overused plot, and a Pinkie episode out of the way all at once.
ReplyDeleteNow to enjoy the rest of the season.
Infant ponies are terrifying...those black holes for eyes that pierce into your soul *shudder*
ReplyDelete@ Adrian Brony
ReplyDeleteThat's what I'm thinking as well. However, considering how big of a tear-jerker the first few minutes of Up were for a somewhat similar scenario, I just have a feeling someone could make a fanfic of equal tear-jerker level for the Cakes' predicament.
@hoverhoof *walks back into comments rubbing bruise* It's a forbidden spell, that's the punishment last time I checked.
ReplyDeleteChanging diapers with your mouth.
ReplyDeleteBEING AN EARTH PONY SUCKS
also, bitchy Pinkie Pie is best pony
Omg, i just realized. You know how many fics are gonna happen where scoots has a disability. Answer, waaayyyy to many,
ReplyDelete@Princess Luna
ReplyDeleteLevitating oneself is considered worse then the Want-it Need-it spell? I can't imagine why.
Clip of episode:
ReplyDeletehttp://youtu.be/bbtTrQbjHYI
Someone must make PMV where Pinkie reads "Go the F**k to Sleep" book XD
ReplyDeleteA pretty solid episode. It was a little stereotypical... though the twist of flying babies and magic babies... well... lets just say I don't see Pinkie Pie wanting kids of her own soon.
ReplyDeleteThe only other nitpick is I'd have had Mr. Cake's father be a Pegasus and Mrs. Cake's mother be a unicorn. Otherwise it makes us wonder just what has Mrs. Cake been up to...
I see Poundcake as a Wonderbolt though... Kid has some serious wing power.
@Jimperator No, I never implied...who used the want it need it spell?
ReplyDeleteAm I the only one slightly disappointed by the lack of Pinkimena?
ReplyDelete@FredFredNineNine
ReplyDeleteYea, to me that explains why Pumpkin was so versatile in her power. AND it explains why Twilight could change ponies in to things when she was a kid too.
@Princess Luna
ReplyDeleteso harsh... I can take there horns away with magic, But you have to cut them off with a hacksaw.
'The Incredibles' reference? Would it stick if I said so?
ReplyDelete@Adrian Brony...No. Too much of a stretch.
ReplyDelete@Greenf0x Brace yourselves, incoming Scootaloo is a cripple fics.
ReplyDeleteEpisode had its moments, but I have to say I was expecting it to be better, perhaps my expectations of the Pinkie Pie episode was just too high.
ReplyDeleteI for one wouldn't mind never seeing those baby ponies again. Nearly every time I've seen a show use the baby plot I have been sorely disappointed. It just always seem so damn boring.
But hey, Pinkie being Pinkie is always great, and there was plenty of that.
@princess luna
ReplyDeleteWell, i think there should be some judgement when applying punishment.
Its not a spell like cloning or that kind of magic.
@Princess Luna
ReplyDeleteWhy, the good student of your sister, Twilight Sparkle, of course.
@Discord There have to be better ways now, it's been 1000 and longer since I remember somepony having their horn removed.
ReplyDeleteWoah, that's a lot of canon. Ponies actually give birth (note Carrot's disheveled look and Cup's absence), and earth ponies can have pegasus or unicorn kids. Score one for the plausibility of the Derpy/Dinky fanon.
ReplyDeletePoor Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo; either they suck or the little Cakes are prodigies; either way, they are outdone by toddlers.
Given my work in microbiology I was squealing when that genetics moment occurred at the start that just made my life complete!
ReplyDelete@herpyderpy I'll call it right now, we'll never see these two baby ponies again, not even in a cameo.
ReplyDeleteWhich will lead to more fandom asking where they went.
Dude, nomorethan9 of 'Epic X Time' fame already has a flash animation up about this episode.
ReplyDeletehttp://youtu.be/fSIzmYm-28w
WTF THE ENCORE EPISODE ISN'T EVEN FINSHED I DON'T EVEN
@noodlegirl88YES.
ReplyDeleteA MILLION TIMES, YES.
*Shivers, squints eyes and glares* Role-playing... my mortal enemy... we meet again.
ReplyDelete@hoverhoof There is some judgement, usually.
ReplyDelete@Jimperator She didn't disown her for it? that was what destroyed the entire race of sea ponies! Oh no I shouldn't have said that...
Ok, the scene where pound cake first starts to fly, one of the creepiest of the whole series.
ReplyDeleteand yes, that was a Trainspotting shoutout. :D
ReplyDeleteEpic Fail to all the forensic audio experts that said the children giggling at the end of The Leaked Song PROVED it was in this ep.
@Jelfes
ReplyDeleteproblems Jelfes
There will be some interesting fanfic from this one. My current head-canon is that the Cakes were part of a long-term genetic engineering project, top secret and only Celestia knew all the details. [I won't posit a name, only because all of them that come to mind are quite NSFW.] These uber-foals were intended to become Plan B if Project Elemental Twilight failed to defeat Nightmare Moon.
ReplyDelete...That episode was so cute i think it cured my diabetes only to GIVE THEM BACK to me!
ReplyDeleteSide note, I think the babies just owned both Scootaloo AND Sweetie Belle (has she ever been shown to be capable of using magic yet?)
@Kyle
ReplyDeleteit's been linked once or twice now. I think he did the animation beforehand, using the baby from Mare Do Well as a model. Then threw on the color at the last second when this episode aired.
The 480p version is up HERE.
ReplyDelete@Jelfes
ReplyDeleteGlad someone shares this sentiment. It's like sifting through spam to see the real comments.
@Princess Luna
ReplyDeleteNo please, do tell. We're all ears!
Crying Pinkie is Best Pony.
ReplyDeleteis it weird that pinkie pie did a song about pigs and now she did something like a spider pony is in the same episode I see something here and i like it
ReplyDeleteRegarding Scootaloo vs Pound Cake's flight abilities, I wonder if pegasi wings grow at different speeds than the rest of their bodies.
ReplyDeleteIf that is the case, then it is just a case of Scootaloo not having adolescent sized wings yet, so her (infant sized) wings are not powerful enough to lift her larger body frame.
So from comments I've noticed
ReplyDeleteGenetics are canon, perfect
Kids have strange names
Twilight is a bitch but she's still good
Surprise is canon
Scoots wings are messed up
@luna
ReplyDeleteRemember to mind your words
Loved the episode!
ReplyDelete@Travis Smith
ReplyDeleteI didn't get this "Twilight being a bitch" vibe.
What I saw was naive unintended backhanded comments, but not proper bitchiness.
and now its time for POUND PUPPIES!!! :D
ReplyDelete...no? k.

ReplyDeleteEver wondered how awesome Nomorethan9 is?
@Jimperator *sigh* I'll get in trouble for this. The sea ponies were relatively peaceful and sprung from alicorns like most races, but also from the mythical "sea-horses" in ancient times. They were a good fine people, but a misfiring of that spell during a delegation when the other three races knew of their existence caused them to fight over the Elements of Chaos. Long story short I didn't return to the ocean for a while.
ReplyDeleteI loved this episode. XD
ReplyDeleteThough i guess Pinkie could have it easier if she had Twilight help her.
Trainspotting reference in this episode
ReplyDelete127 Hours reference in MTBPW
Someone working on the show really loves Danny Boyle movies
@mycutiemarkisagun
ReplyDeleteNope, it's Tebow Time.
For the next 12 hours.
Ugh.
Hahahaha*nom*haha that was a great twist with the "super-babies"
ReplyDelete@Jorlem That's actually a good theory on Scootaloo, she's gotten heavier so her baby wings can't carry her weight anymore.
ReplyDeleteOh no, do Pegasus go through winging, like teething babies go through when their adult wings come in?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=pY4whBm3Elg
ReplyDeleteEpisode 13 is out now!
Obviously poundcake can fly better than scootaloo because toddlers have a better wing size to body mass ratio. (or because his parents love him)
ReplyDeleteMagic surges make total sense, just like in Harry Potter.
Good episode, the end reminded me that children are terrifying.
@Raugos
ReplyDeleteI'm chalking it up to the square/cube law.
@Jimperator
ReplyDeleteWell I've still yet to see it since I coudn't watch it at home and the YouTube links arnt up yet.
I'll just see but I'll take your word for it
Aww, what a cute episode.
ReplyDeleteWhile I'm not a huge fan of babysitting theme episodes, I have to say it kept me smilling and laughing all the way, and I really liked the sequence where Pinkie fearing for them, superb.
ReplyDeleteAlso I call hacks.
Aww, what a cute episode.
ReplyDeleteI...I can't accept all of this as canon.
ReplyDeleteAww, what a cute episode.
ReplyDeletedamnit i missed the episode i cant wait!!!
ReplyDeleteMaybe the reason that the babies are obscenely powerful is the same reason that human infants can swim by instinct until they turn 1 year old.
ReplyDelete480p is here:

Pinkie pie is best pony :b and this is the best episode XD
ReplyDelete@Trotsky
ReplyDeleteRule of Funny.
That is all, Google it if unsure what it is.
@Princess Luna
ReplyDelete...ok now...
(politely said)
Making any one of them ''bad'' or illegal would be like making the action of breathing a bad thing. -_-
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pY4whBm3Elg
ReplyDeleteyoutube link in case anypony needs one
ReplyDelete@Jimperator I answered you far above this comment, just don't let Tia know I said anything about it.
ReplyDelete@Jimperator
ReplyDeleteyeah, that was more "foot in mouth" than any intentional offense.
@Jimperator
ReplyDeletePats will start off slow but I can't see them being one and done AGAIN....can you?
I think I hear a reference to "Aquarela do brazil" in the background music. Btw, awesome episode.
ReplyDeleteyeah, I know about the rule of funny, its just that I didn't find it...funny.
ReplyDelete@Jimperator
ReplyDeleteYou no like y boy tebow.
