A few days ago a post went up displaying two new ponies, Shining Armor and Princess Cadence. Apparently the duo is actually going to be showing up in the series. Andrew Francis is the voice-actor behind Braeburn, and recently tossed this up on his Twitter page.
I guess that also confirms a third Alicorn?
Other news from deep within the bowels of the internet also pointed at this particular episode being a season finale, we are sticking those under the rumor tag for now though.
Thanks to Jake for the heads up!

I don't see much overreaction here compared to other posts in the past. I'm seeing a lot of "not sure if want" in posts.
ReplyDeleteI honestly think the best thing to do is to wait until this actually arrives before any further speculation.
Based on that tweet alone, Shining Armor is already my favorite character.
ReplyDeleteThere should be only two alicorns. I hope she's a princess like Blueblood is a prince.
ReplyDeleteEpic!! They just keep blowing my mind with these new episodes
ReplyDelete@BossManJohn
ReplyDeleteDude, I was just thinking of the SAME clip of Spoony with all these comments xD
As for my earlier post, I hope these new characters pull a Discord-awesomeness to win us over.
If they do, then all is welcome. It's most likely they will, they have done success after success.
What I'm worried about earlier are the fans. Some get so hardcore with what's canon or not and go crazy about everything.
Those guys are Twilight Sparkle's real parents. Twilight is part of the Royal family, but her wings haven't come out yet because she has not fully matured. (This will be the big reveal in the movie). So when a great evil threatens Equestria once again, Twilight must come to terms with her identity and lead Equestria to victory.
ReplyDeleteIf there's time travel like a few people are saying, then there better be a Back to the Future reference.
ReplyDeleteI have a fantastic idea: why don't we watch the show, enjoy it when it's good, and then only freak out when it's actually gone wrong?
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I feel like I'm watching Twilight going into one of her panic spirals here. Stop assuming everything will inevitably lead to the WORST! THING! EVER!
Just realized now that at few of the VAs for MLP: FIM also did voice acting in Bionicle: Mask of Light, which I so happen to have a copy of on DVD on the bookshelf just outside my bedroom. Who exactly? Kathleen Barr, the VA for Trixie, Scott McNeil, the VA for one of the Diamond Dogs and Chief Thunderhooves, Lee Tockar, the VA for Snips, Trevor Devall, the VA for Blueblood and Fancy Pants, and now the VA for Braeburn. I gotta watch that movie again to see if I can recognize them all.
ReplyDeleteThiessen knows what he's doing. Even if it is some crap forced on them by Hasbro, Studio B will find a way to turn it into something awesome. They always do.
ReplyDelete@Eddmario
ReplyDeleteScott McNeil was in My Little Pony?!
is it, like, required by law that he and Brad Swaile voice a character in every animated show ever or something?
I'm actually on the verge of tears at the moment.
ReplyDelete1) This alicorn is PINK.
2) This alicorn should not be an alicorn.
3) This alicorn has a stupid name.
4) This alicorn cannot be a princess.
5) This alicorn is fake.
There. That's put my mind at rest.
I'm very excited about Princess Cadence. I wonder what role she'll play in the storyline, and if it's the season finale, that makes it more exciting. Bring on the new pony!
ReplyDeleteLawl at all people freaking out like it's the end of everything.
ReplyDeleteProps for Saber456.
Also, I never really liked idea about princesses being THE engines of celestial bodies. Because if they are, pony planet is at constant risk of being destroyed - y'know, some accident with Celestia and sun goes down forever. Or supernova, if you want swift end.
More like sun and moon move on their own accord with physics, and princesses just have powers to apply changes if some grand-scale evil magic wrecks shit.
So welcome new alicorns, go forth and multiply.
I am actually pretty excited about whatever may happen. The show is in good hands, after all. (In the meantime I'll keep building on my insane head-canon). Cadence's mane looks an awful lot like Twilight's; that's gotta be points for the she's her real mother theory. That would explain why Twilight is so special (not just anyone can wield the Element's of Harmony and vanquish an Ursa Minor).
ReplyDeleteWow only a few hours and half the community has declared war against Princess Cadence and to think there's still several months until the episode evens airs (almost a year if it's gonna be in season 3) I think we all just need to relax and have faith in the FIM team.
ReplyDeleteThe word Cadence has a meaning..,
ReplyDeletehttp://www.answers.com/topic/cadence
Yeah, now that is TOTALLY Alicorn territory potential...sort of the anti-discord pony, if you will. I have a feeling that there's WAY more to this story than we know yet.
I vote we stop panicking - things are rarely so simple on first glance!
honestly I am displeased. but if they pull it off well i'll be fine with it, but you know I don't know if they will, it sort of looks like an excuse to do a royal wedding parody.
ReplyDeleteGuys, stop fretting. The writers have proven tme and time again that they know what they're doing. Cherilee was a product placement, and she fits just fine in the universe. S2 Luna, when everyone was worried they would break her character. tell me...DOES THOU NOT LOVE THY NEW PRINCESS OF THE NIGHT? Relax, give them a chance.
ReplyDeleteI think people are overstating the overreaction...
ReplyDeleteI have my doubts that this is the season finale of Season 2 since I was under the impression that they were done recording voice for S2 and were well into Season 3's VA sessions. This may be for the season finale of Season 3. At that, this may be the series finale. These could be the last new characters of the show... forever.
ReplyDeleteOh that just makes me sad to think about.
also where is this "for a season finale" thing coming from?
ReplyDelete@XyroTR1 Let's not jump to conclusions just yet based off of this tweet here. Jumping to conclusions has done nothing but cause trouble for many in the past. While I may not be too keen on another alicorn. We shall just have to wait and see what the team has in story for us. Afterall we're still in the middle of season 2 and Season 3 is a long ways away.
ReplyDeleteWe'll see. First impression is 'not keen', but there's almost no real info so I'll be hoping for the best (and planning for the worst).
ReplyDeleteThe current sun/moon dual panthion works so well for me that a new goddess tier alicorn seems a little off, and if that is the case it'll be interesting to see what the writers come up with to fit her in.
Other options:
#'got the looks but not the power' - bloodline, parents are who?
#'natural but rare effect of pegasus x unicorn' - this makes you royal how?
#'ruler somewhere else' - would have to be a domain inside the greater Equestria (you'd have a royal wedding in your own country - and would'nt it suck being neighbours with a country rulled by a couple of goddesses?)
#'locked in a tower' - Celestia's first banishment, didn't go a far as the second...
Well simply compare the original screen shots to the royal wedding and i think we have a winner
ReplyDeleteI think it's a bit too early to go sounding the doomsday whistle; after all, Princess Cadence hasn't even been confirmed to exist in the main series yet!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I decided to throw together a little theoretical family tree of the Equestrian Pantheon/Royal Family; I put it up on my tumblr if anyone wants to have a gander: http://queryconsul.tumblr.com/post/14205614603/the-equestrian-royal-family
In my crazy made-up-on-the-spot pantheon, Cadence is the first cousin of Celestia and Luna, and is in charge of knowledge and inspiration, particularly of the Arts.
Celestia and Luna's father is charged with maintaining order in the cosmos and their mother oversees the ebb and flow of all magic in the universe; these tasks require constant attention and supervision. This explains why Celestia and Luna are Princesses; the King and Queen are still around, they just deal with matters far beyond the mortal realm.
The brother of Nebulon is Chronos, Tia and Lu's uncle and Cadence's father, who oversees and safeguards the flow of time; his wife Glacia, the sister of Galaxia, controls the elements that permeate Equestria and the universe, the basic building blocks of everything that exists.
Finally, Tartarus, Cadence's brother, oversees the netherworld, collecting the souls of the departed and passing judgement on them, then sending them to the appropriate afterlife.
(Oh yes, as for the names, Galaxia and Nebulon I have seen used as fan names for Celestia and Luna's parents in several different fics, so I decided to go with them (I think they sound cool anyway). Chronos and Tartarus come from Greek mythology, and of course Glacia doesn't really need an explanation. :p)
...Confound these ponies, they drive me to BE CREATIVE. >:O
Guys embrace the new stuff
ReplyDeletehow are they gonna make new episodes if we didn't get some new character's ??
@Lag-y It's not that they're new characters that everyone is tripping over. It's the fact that they're alicorns. But at this point it's best to sit back and wait for some more info.
ReplyDeleteI think we're jumping the gun here. The twitter update says nothing about Cadence, so her existence, design, and characterisation is all unknown.
ReplyDeleteThe Cadence on those toy promotion cut outs could have nothing to do with the show. The reason why she is an Alicorn in those images could be due to the fact that nothing is more 'princess-like' than being an Alicorn. Being able to fly AND perform magic? What other credentials are required to tell kids that she's a princess and not a random Earth pony or Unicorn or Pegasus?
What I'm saying is this: The Cadence in the promo could be just that: a promotional tool. Celestia is spoken for in the show (she's married to her kingdom), and it seems the toys are saying the same thing. So, to promote the toy line further through a 'wedding', a new Alicorn was drawn up and paired with the new prince.
So far, only the prince, Shining Armour has been confirmed to appear in the show. As for his appearance, we have nothing but the image from the toy promo. By the same token, we have NOTHING on whether Cadence will appear in the show, nor do we have anything beyond an image from the toy promo. Given Hasbro's consistency for lacking show-accuracy in the toyline, I doubt Cadence will have that design if she does appear in the show, and the same goes for Shining Armour.
@Eddmario
ReplyDeleteI remember watching the Bionicle films, they were surprisingly good!
Still haven't watched the one revolving around Mata Nui being exiled to Bara Magna, though.
Oh Goddesses I sounded so geeky just then...
I don't think ANYONE would have any idea of the airing order of Season 3 this far off anyway.
ReplyDeleteNow I'm really excited for the new character because every time people said it would suck, it turned out to be awesome. This was from the beginning of the show, to the characterization of Luna, and most of the episodes that followed.
ReplyDeleteIt seems that only when an episode is over-hyped(Mysterious Mare do Well) does it get some disappointment.
Aren't all the royal guards alicorns too? Big deal.
ReplyDeleteMore royal alicorns is fine by me, especially if it turns out they're royalty from a different pony nation.
@8bitbleepbleep Royal guards are either Pegasi Unicorns or Earth Ponies. There has never been an alicorn guard.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to this, personally. The writers for the show have consistently shown that they know what they're doing, and as Celestia was never portrayed as an all-powerful omnarch, there's plenty of room in the pantheon for other alicorns. "Cadence" is suggestive; an alicorn responsible for seasons, perhaps? We know from comments in WInter Wrap-Up that the transition between seasons can be accomplished by magic, so why not have an alicorn who's responsible for that in her own country, while in Equestria it's left up to the ponies themselves?
ReplyDeleteWhat is this blasphemy? A new Alicorn?! But my world-crafting! My fanon!
ReplyDeleteIT'S ALL RUINED!
Princess Cadence- Clearly the product of some Twilestia. Purple eyes, Twilight has purple eyes! Pink and Purple mane, Twilight has those as well!! Wings, Celestia has them. Horn both her parents would have those! Twilight purple + Celestia white= Cadence Purplish pink!!! My logic is irrefutable, this is clearly the answer!
ReplyDeleteHonestly, if it was anything other than G4, I'd be worried.
ReplyDeleteI think the writers can pull it off.
Sucks for those fics, though.
THE, WORST, POSSIBLE, THING! /panic
ReplyDeleteThough I am filled with unease, I'll wait until actual news develops to spiral into full panic. I'm definitely picking up the "forced by Hasbro" vibe but the writers have shown they've been able to roll with that before.
@ClutterCluster pherpahs her talent is destroying half the fanfiction from another reality, it sounds hilarious to me hahahahahahah XD
ReplyDeleteit had to happen i guess...
ReplyDeletei mean there was an alicorn filly out there, remember peeps?
i just hope it can slide like ice ^^"
Well, it only says about Shinning Armor, I don't see anything in that tweet that confirms beyond reasonable doubt a 3rd alicorn.
ReplyDeleteRegarding the existing fanfics, I don't see where the problem is, even if we got a 3rd alicorn, so what? There are plenty of awesome fanfics there, and I don't see why should they "die" or be ignored thanks to the new canon.
And I dare to say that I trust the writters, I doubt they will ruin the show just because they introduce a new alicorn into the series, anyway, my advice is to wait and see, stop drowning in a glass of water.
@Sdash
ReplyDeleteThe filly alicorn from Lesson Zero was an animation error.
I dunno what all the fuss is about. We already knew there had to be at least one other Alicorn to be the progenitor of Prince Blueblood. That much was established even before Lauren Faust left the series. I, for one, am stoked to see some more mysteries of the Alicorn race revealed.
ReplyDeleteAlso, who cares if Hasbro execs were the ones who pushed for this? (Which is pure alarmist speculation by the way) The whole series is based on a toy line and the funding for the show is based on how many toys it sells. The writers, animators, voice talent and showrunners have already demonstrated time and time again that they take the merchandising requirements of the show in stride and improvise them into something amazing.
Have a little faith. Princess Cadence is going to be awesome and this episode is going to be epic.
Nice to get some confirmation on those images that have disappeared from the site.
ReplyDeleteSo either she's a princess from another kingdom, a really distant relative of Celestia and Luna(like Blueblood) or some..third thing(I liked the idea about a living story book character).
What ever it is I'm sure Studio B and the rest of staff are going to make it look awesome. From the looks of things she seems pretty young and is about to get married so I guess we'll be seeing how Pinkie and the rest of Equestria celebrates a royal wedding.
Princess cadence is the ruler of fillydelphia... Totally calling it. That would be a perfect way for them to troll the bronies.
ReplyDelete@Commentatrar
ReplyDeleteThis. So very much.
I have no problem with more Alicorns. It might mean we have to adjust our headcanon, but hey, we did that with Luna, right?
And so far, the only toy stuff I've found really annoying is that train in the new opening. Other than that, most of the toy plugs have either been subdued, subverted, or parodied. Remember "May The Best Pet Win"? The cat and squirrel were both included in various Rainbow Dash sets, but instead of hyping them up, the episode has Dash totally uninterested in them. Even Tank was parodied, as most of the episode was about how unfit he was to be Dashie's pet.
And yes, I remember that post about all the behind-the-scenes drama that's apparently going on. First, only a few writers are leaving, and most of them only produced "okay" episodes. Second, Rob Renzetti has a nasty habit of working on a show for a season, and then bailing. The ONLY show he's stayed on for the whole run with was "My Life As A Teenage Robot," and that was only because it was more or less his pet project. And third, if season three ends the series after thirteen episodes, then so be it. Of those sixty-five episodes, over 75-80% of them will be quality programming, and that's not something a lot of shows (especially girl cartoons) can honestly say.
So, let's just sit back and wait to see how it goes. Season Two has been great so far, and I have faith the team won't let us down.
@Lasnic
ReplyDeleteAlso she doesn't say anything. The only way she can communicate is singing. :P
Mind = Blown
ReplyDeleteI mean jeeze, never thought I'd see THAT character be even mentioned let alone voiced.
@Zobeid
ReplyDeleteNyx is an OC. Get your fanon untangled from canon.
May I just say I find it hilarious on how all of you are overreacting! We don't even know anything about them other than 'it's an alicorn', you all just seem upset that the fanon is wrong once again.
ReplyDeleteWhy the hell can't some of you people go five minutes without complaining about something? A tiny detail is released about the show and you start raging because it damages your precious 'fanon'. Screw your fanon - the show is what makes the fanon, not the other way around. If they are going to be using Shining Armour (it hasn't even been confirmed that the Princess will be in it it, but if she is, hats off to the writers) then why is that a problem? How does it possibly make Luna or Celestia lesser ponies just because they're not the only 'alicorns'?
ReplyDeleteIt really annoys me when I scroll through these comments and find people (not everyone, naturally) complaining about things that they know barely anything about. You've been told a character's name - you know nothing yet of what the narrative of the episode will be like, so why the heck are you bitching? And even if a small plot synopsis is released, you can't infer that it'll be a bad episode based on a few lines.
This comment will ultimately make little difference, as certain people really seem to love getting worked up and upset over nothing, and will continue to do so regardless of what others say. But honestly, can people at least try and stop whining before posting negative crap about the show every time a tiny detail is revealed? It's really starting to get old.
I thought there was only 2 alicorns, Damn! that spoiler confuses alot!
ReplyDelete@Alex
ReplyDeleteJust to piggyback on that, many fans seem to have lost sight of the fact that not only do the writers not care one iota about fanon, but they shouldn't. Sure, they toss us a bone once in a while with a derpy shot or Lyra and Bonbon talking in the background and that's really awesome, but at the end of the day it's their world and we just live in it. If they were to start writing shows around our every little demand, the show we know and love would swiftly become a piled on mishmash of everything but the kitchen sink!
Say GOODBYE to your fannon fanfics!
ReplyDeleteI, for one, welcome our new alicorn overloards.
ReplyDeleteI don't see the big deal at all. An alicorn is just a winged unicorn. Two of them are Goddesses of Sun and Moon and they are in another league. From what has been shown so far Cadence doesn't have the shiny mane, so she's probably an ordinary pony like Blueblood who happens to be an alicorn and is probably a child of Celestia.
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing they gave Luna a mane like Celestia's right because of this, it allows to introduce mortal alicorns while showing clearly that Celestia and Luna are still unique.
princess CANDACE? this can only end up with.
ReplyDelete"CELESTIA! Twilight Sparkle and Spike are making a MUSICAL NUMBER!!!"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f-EM-CgVFTc
Maybe there's a whole species of Alicorns who live at a place far, far away from the rest of the ponies? Mabye the normal Alicorn isn't that powerful? Maybe Celestia and Luna are exceptions? Maybe... *gets stab to death for being a heretic*
ReplyDeletePersonally I'm looking forward to the episode with Shinning Armor and Cadence. A third alicorn will not ruin the show. Quite the contrary: This will add more background to the world and the princesses.
Aaaand we get another male pony. The shippers will be pleased.
Ah, the sweet sound of fanon tearning apart.
ReplyDeleteSo I concocted a short but ridiculous theory from this. But the only part I'll mention for now is that Shining Armor (and, if she exists, the new Princess too) must be from another country. Not Equestria.
ReplyDeletePlease help me out here - how does ANY of this information lead to a third alicorn? Was something deleted from his twitter or something?
ReplyDeleteHmm, Well since equestria has cities like manehatten and Fillydelphia it's probably the FIM equivalent of the U.S. While Trottingham and British ponies have been confirmed and since it'll be a parody of the royal wedding it's a safe bet that these two are the ones in charge of the England equivalent.
ReplyDeleteAlso BossmanJohn i was thinking of that EXACT same clip when i started reading these comments.
I predict that when this episode containing Cadence airs, most of you will have a new favorite alicorn.
ReplyDeleteCould be wrong, but I fully trust the staff of this show and I think that they can take any random idea and create an amazing episode.
I can't wait to see what happens.
ladies brony approves
ReplyDeleteOn the other hoof, if this a finale, I have complete faith that the writers and artists will be able to hold me 'til next year, heck I may even write my own fic!
Explanation 1: In ancient Russia, they had three solar goddesses, the three little Zoryas. So even without dragging in other stuff, you could have multiple Celestias controlling the path of the sun from rise to set.
ReplyDelete2: Obviously Cadence is a junior aspect of Celestia. Goddesses split off aspects of themselves all the time, right? (Cue Trollestia clone stories....)
3: Cadence is the goddess of timekeeping and calendars, or of musical rhythm, or of music, or of poetry and oratory. Perhaps there are several such demi-alicorn Muses, or goddesses of crafts.
Cadence is SO PRETTY. Hasbro, make a toy of this. I want her badly. <3
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure how to feel about this. I prefer if the new alicorn would be a fictional character in-universe or it would be time-travel/alternate universe type of episode.
ReplyDeleteBut if new princess does exist in the same time and place as Luna, Celestia and Mane 6, I can only hope the studio will tread carefully, because it could very easily ruin the setting of the series.
I don't get it...
ReplyDeleteWe know ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about Cadence and yet, people are complaining like there is no morning. >__<
What about Discord back then? Everyone were complaining about his appearance and after the episode, everyone loved him. o__O
(And when Lauren Faust would have put a third alicorn, everyone would be okay with it I guess... *shrug*)
I actually welcome new characters, alicorn or not as I find it really exciting.
OMG! she's the celestia's Toy!!!
ReplyDelete@Present Perfect
ReplyDeletetrue! =(
oh come on, does everything cause a sh*tstorm among the bronies?
ReplyDeleteyou know what's a good idea?
whine when she does show up and she turned awful!
you guys seriously need to have more faith in the staff who gives us this amazing show.
To be honest I'm just going to wait a see what happens before I decide on anything. The MLP team hasn't failed to disappoint yet!
ReplyDeleteY'know, something occurred to me. Princess Celestia's toy is pink because the retailers insisted on it, as they thought (quite justifiably, sadly) that a toy for young girls being bought by their mothers would sell better if it was pink. This is disappointing, but it's just the way things are. I wonder, though; once Princess Cadence arrives to bear the banner of Pink, might Princess Celestia acquire her proper hue? That would be very, very nice if it happened.
ReplyDelete@Ten Whoops phrased that wrong, meant they haven't disappointed us so far so I have high hopes for whatever they come up with :)
ReplyDeleteCalling it Cadence IS Twilight Sparkle, in Alicorn Princes mode. Come on you know its her destiny. Twilight is the time between night and day, and a cadence comes at the end of something.
ReplyDeleteCalling it Cadence IS Twilight Sparkle, in Alicorn Princes mode. Come on you know its her destiny. Twilight is the time between night and day, and a cadence comes at the end of something.
ReplyDeleteNot sure if want...
ReplyDeleteSee, this is one of the reasons I can't stand fanfic: it causes fans to freak out whenever the showrunners do something new that violates somebody's beloved fanon. I'm becoming more and more convinced that there's a sizable portion of MLP fandom that would prefer the show just end and keep their fanfic universe safe forever.
ReplyDeleteI like how everyone's throwing Hasbro under the bus. They could've been characters the show came up with from the beginning.
ReplyDeleteToo many of you take news like this like the sky is going to fall because the show adding one thing that was supposedly not "Lauren's Vision" (Which is BS because none of you at all know what Lauren's Vision was).
The characters haven't done anything yet, and we're condemning it as some Hasbro BS. Mother of Celestia, at least let the episode air before we call apocalypse.
...You guys sicken me...Celestia and Luna have never been confirmed as being goddesses...Those of you who are acting rational I'm very proud of but...damn bronies...you guys need to stop throwing fits over everything!
ReplyDeleteWhat the hell happened to this fan base? I used to think that we could take any news and be happy with it, but that's clearly not the case anymore. Too many selfish bronies throwing fits because of the most minor of things somehow destroying your precious head cannon.
ReplyDeleteWe need to calm down and actually have faith. The show will explain the reason for more alicorns, and these characters could be awesome (since the show has really yet to have a bad character).
@Vermillion Twilight He voices Braeburn ("AAAAAAAPLEOOSA"), not Big Mac ("eeyup").
ReplyDeleteNot sure if want.
ReplyDeleteI'll just have to have faith they can pull it off and not make her a Mary Sue.
@Xeddrief
ReplyDeleteHow would she be a mary sue exactly? For all we know she's just a princess from another part of equestria with no major powers.
@Rocker32703 Those are called principalities, and they're ruled by princes and princesses.
ReplyDeleteHere are 10 simple things I wish you all could understand.
ReplyDelete1. Hasbro is not to blame for the characters. They could have been planned by the show runners from the start.
2. Nobody ever said Luna and Celestia were the only alicorns in existence. They're just the ones that control the sun and moon.
3. Like it or not, your head cannon does not = what the show will do. Your fan fiction is just that... FICTION! That has no bearing to what will happen on the show. Swallow your pride, and accept it.
4. For the love of Celestia, STOP SPEAKING ON LAUREN'S BEHALF! You have no clue what she wants or what was in the show bible. And since Lauren is still a consulting producer, chances are she's perfectly fine with the idea.
5. At least wait until the episode to say the sky is falling. We know nothing of these two yet, at least give them a chance. We have 15 episodes before we get to this, there's plenty of time for them to build something around this.
6. Has the show had one terrible character yet? No. So far all the characters have been great, and there isn't a Jar-Jar to be found. Why would it be different for these two?
7. We're 8 episodes into the Post-Faust era. And so far there isn't one bad episode. There's been some weak ones, but season 1 had weak episodes too.
8. People complaining that it's a wedding episode. So? There's plenty of potential for a strong episode. If the show can build excellent stories on slumber parties and fashion shows, then why does this suddenly mean the show's gonna make a boring wedding episode?
9. Yes It's a William and Kate parody. So, we're fine with Big Lebowski parodies, and other pop culture references but this is frowned upon?
10. Just freaking enjoy the show and not take it for granted.
Wow. Overreactions MUCH?
ReplyDelete...I'm sorry my head isn't working right now... A third what?
ReplyDeleteSeriously, you idiots are why I don't read the articles on this site anymore.
ReplyDelete@The Wolverine I really hoped we weren't this jaded. I REALLY hoped we weren't going to fall into selfish fanboy habits. But apparently I was proven wrong.
ReplyDeleteI hope this isn't some incredibly tiresome parody of the British Royal family. But I sincerely doub that it is, So I'm happy. But that's probably becuase generally I prefer the show's writing to the vast majority of fanon.
ReplyDelete@Zeki
ReplyDeleteThe original post from a few days ago was apparently removed, but some pictures surfaced of promotional materials at some kind of Hasbro headquarters function. There were large cardboard displays for various shows/toy lines, and the pictures showed the My Little Pony one featuring an invitation to the wedding of Shining Armor and Princess Cadence. Both were pictured (look up the two names together on google images and you'll see them both) in wedding attire. We never saw Cadence's cutie mark... That seems to be a fan invention.
The standee also featured a new castle (more traditional looking and horizontal than the palace in Canterlot) as well as the Mane six in new formal wear with matching headresses (likely bridesmaids) and the CMCs in formal wear (likely flower girls). Shining Armor seemed to be wearing the same outfit as the Prince did in England's recent royal wedding.
Personally, I think the introduction of British Pip from Trottinham is the first step in introducing this pair of royals. Once you have British ponies, why not a British royal family?
@forgotten sin
ReplyDeleteThank goodness for you. I'm glad that you're seeing sense here.
I'm utterly appalled at the idiots who can't accept that the show is introducing new concepts. Of course new ideas will be brought to the table - the show would become utterly stale if this wasn't the case. These two new characters will in no way 'break' the canon, because they -are- they canon. So many people seem to have become obsessed with the notion that it is the fans that should decide what happens in this show and what is right and wrong for the ponies.
This is a completely ridiculous way to observe it. Instead, people should be watching the show, observing the things that exist within the show and then building their fandom around that. It's the same with this 'Season 2 has gone downhill' shit that I keep reading. "Sisterhooves Social", "The Return of Harmony", "Sweet and Elite" - put these up against any episode from Season 1 and they're easily on par. The only major difference is improved animation, which is the opposite of a bad thing.
Honestly, it's sickening to see what some of these assholes are saying about the show, the team and Hasbro itself. There is an enormous potential for good characters from these two new ponies. And you just know that when they have their episode, the fans will suddenly be saying how awesome they are. Why? Because the writers know what they're doing.
Seriously people, calm the fuck down.
Repeat to yourself, "It's just a little girls show, I should really just relax."
ReplyDeletePeople need to calm down. I men, really. THIS is the kind of thing that will set the fandom off?
Oddly enough, I'm pumped. I LOVE it (genuinely, not trolly) whenever something I love is up-heaved and changed completely by the creators, especially if it's something I know fans will go nuts about.

ReplyDelete@Alex I'm a fan. I don't run around in a panic like a Scootaloo with it's head cut off when there's something that seems different and new.
ReplyDeleteWhile I still believe Hasbro wasn't the biggest reason for this, I won't be entirely convinced until I see a heavy push on Princess Cadence merchandise. And even should that happen, I still won't care as long as we have a great character to look forward to.
I don't take this show for granted. I don't act like this show should cater to me and only me (Hell, if I did Rainbow Day would be pushed more (I mean come on people. She has two lines in he show, that's two more than Lyra, and yet there's no fanart? For shame, But I foolishly digress)) And I certainly don't cry foul when something so minor like this happens.
Stuff like this makes the bronies look just as bad as any other fan base. Yes, just as bad as even the Sonic fanbase. Do we really want that to be how we're perceived by others? As a bunch of sulky brats with a "Me! Me! ME! Cater to only me!" attitude? Or would we rather be the fanbase that appreciates what we have while we have it?
So we have season two complete, if this is potentially a season finale, could we see a fourth season?
ReplyDelete@Present Perfect We've had to do that since Twilight's Imagine Spot in Lesson Zero. Magic Kindergarten? Right side of screen? Very back desk? I believe she's known as Nebula.
ReplyDeleteOoohhhh noooo!!!! Our precious fanfics. What ever shall we do?
ReplyDeleteSeriously guys, stop overreacting please. Keep in mind that IT'S A CHILDREN'S CARTOON! I can't believe we are putting down the show just because of one new character that is an alicorn. So what! It's not our show, it's theirs. They have a say in what the show becomes and so far I don't see anything wrong with the new addition.
If something so simple is causing you to whine so much, maybe you can stop watching this show to spare yourselves the change that is bound to happen so we can enjoy the show.
Real fans can accept change because of the love and dedication they have toward the thing they are fans of. If something changes and you can't bear it, then maybe you never were a real fan.
I know it's a pretty cruel thing to say, but I'm tired of watching our community becoming so demanding and putting down the staff and the show because of little things. This fandom used to be great, but now I'm seeing a wave of demands and negativity about to hit us. You can even see it in the comments of this post. The first few comments welcomed the news. One or two of them disapproved, but that's all they did, they didn't bash hasbro or studio b because of it. Then people started completely going on the defensive.
To wrap up this long commnent, don't over react to something new. Whether it's this show or your favorite band, you need to learn how to accept changes if you truly are a fan. Basically what I'm trying to say is "keep calm and carry on" or canter on in this case.
@MetalGearFlaccid
ReplyDeleteIt seems like anything will set this fandom off. I mean we had people going into ultra rage mode over names of background ponies.
Are there any odds this Princess Cadence character doesn't even exist in the show and that Silver Armor is just a small background character?
ReplyDeleteI'm with those who am eagerly anticipating Princess Cadence and Shining Armour's debut - the world building, the glorious world building!
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, come on guys - we're Bronies, princes and princesses among fandoms (I am not joking - I've been a fan of many things, and THIS is hands down the best online community ever) - we are better than this - just look at Derpy to see the esteem we are held in by the showrunners - let us not disapoint them nor make ourselves unworthy of the love and good faith they have shown us.
@forgotten sin I agree on the most part however there have been worse freak outs in the past but Honestly. I think this calls for a Reality check post from Phoe. She's the been the blogger best with words seeing and people are taking things for granted. But like I said people reacting to those overreacting are also responsible in making things larger than they are.
ReplyDeleteWhile I'm not necessarily on board with 2 other Alicorns in the world of equestria(I like the dynamic Celestia and Luna have already)it's best to wait for more info we don't need to throw the characters under the bus now when we don't even know who they are besides their names.
@Epidehl
ReplyDeleteA pony in this generation or a pony in general? Because from what I heard, he voiced that jock Ace from My Little Pony Tales.
There has to be a third alicorn- Rarity mentions that Prince Blueblood is Celestia's nephew. Luna doesn't have a child, and Blue Blood looks nothing like her. Thus- third alicorn :)
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure I understand the rage here, except that this is inevitably going to contradict some fan fics.
ReplyDeleteThe mere presence of another princess pony doesn't explicitly contradict anything that has been presented in the show, nor has it even been implied that Celestia and Luna are absolutely the only winged unicorns.
It seems implied that Celestia and Luna are the only sisters in their immediate family (but never explicitly stated). However, we don't really have any explanation of how the royals in Canterlot are structured. Prince Blueblood's presence implies there are "minor" royals (most likely honorary titles, but again, we don't really know). Provided that Cadence is not from another country, the story about her doesn't take place in that past, or it isn't a fairy tale, then we may find out a bit more about this in whatever episode she shows up in.
It seems that stories that destroy fanon are the most polarizing around here. For example: Luna Eclipsed (showed what Luna was really like) and The Mysterious Mare Do Well (hammered home that ponies do not actually live in the middle ages).
The upcoming winter episode and this princess Cadence episode are likely to be the same.
And for those of you stating that Hasbro is stepping in too much and ruining the show, I think you need to go back and read comments from the staff. IIRC: A lot of the elements from the show such as Twilight's hot air balloon, Carousel Boutique, Ponyville itself, and even the practice of apple bucking were as a result of Hasbro's input into the show. Even if Hasbro literally said, "make a new princess pony so we can sell toys," doesn't mean that the writers can't turn that idea into a decent character.
As I have said in the past, there is absolutely nothing wrong with speculation / speculative fiction. It just doesn't make sense to get upset when you end up being wrong about things.
Don’t get me wrong but I think that some people are overreacting about the negative comments. Most people are interested in the new character or at least neutral, only a few don’t like the idea of a more than two Alicorns. And of those few people most were very polite and didn’t scream “OMC the show is ruined! FOREVER!”. But if I read some of the comments here, it sounds like the whole Fandom collectively hates that new alicorn and went into a Nerd rage. Don’t make this thing bigger than it is. :)
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I came up with my own theory about Princess Cadence. She the daughter Celestia in my head canon and isn’t as powerfully as her mother. Sure she can fly and has the basic unicorn magic skills but that’s it. And if she has children’s with Shinning Armor they will be normal Unicorns just like Blueblood.
Alternate theory--They're slowly introducing the descendants of the Royal Pony Sisters mentioned in the first episode.
ReplyDelete@Yonasomun
ReplyDeleteAgreed; there's no need to over react when some folks don't like the perceived changes (which we know nothing about anyway). Most posts have been reasoned discussion; it would get pretty boring if we a liked exactly the same stuff.
New characters? New alicorns? F*** Yeah! Maybe one day we'll even get some background information on alicorns.
ReplyDeleteSome people commenting here really need to calm down a little, and it's not those who are expressing reservations about Princess Cadence. There's an awful lot of pointless insults and condescension going on in here.
ReplyDeleteYes, there are a fair number of comments by people who are nervous about how this is going to be handled, and uncertain how Cadence will fit into the canon pony world in a way that makes sense (and it is canon they're nervous about, not fanon) but those comments are generally pretty calm. It's natural to be a bit nervous when finding out about something that could potentially be a major change to the entire setting.
I'm sure whatever they come up with will work out by the time it gets here, but in the meantime, can't we please just let people speculate or make harmless "Not sure if want" type comments without calling them idiots, saying how they make you sick, or ranting about how they're "freaking out"?
Call me too curious but where the FLIP is the queen??!?!!!!?
ReplyDeleteShe's probably dead.
ReplyDelete@Rocker32703
ReplyDelete"Perhaps Equestria is an empire and Cadence could be the leader of a region within Equestria's borders? I forgot what the official term was, it'll come to me after I post this, I'm sure of it. But like, maybe she is the leader of a country/region that Equestria has dominance over, while recognizing that it is a seperate land at the same time. There's an official term for it, I hope I explained myself well enough."
There are several terms, the use of which depends on whether or not the Emperor's/Empress' chosen government leader is part of the military and/or native-born to the region that he/she is ruling.
If they lead a civilian government with the full consent and confidence of the Emperor/Empress, then they generally keep the title of King or Queen.
If they lead a civilian government but are under the supervision of the Emperor's/Empress' military, then they might be allowed to keep the title of King or Queen (King Herod of Judea in the Bible is a good example of this.) but the military supervisor is usually called a Proconsul. (Pontius Pilate was Proconsul to Judea when he ordered Jesus crucified.) Another title, rarely used, is Ethnarch. It usually means that the leader is native-born, not of Royal blood (probably an Aristocrat, though) and is usually just a figurehead.
Other titles include Governor and Governor General. These are usually the civilian equivalent of a Proconsul.
Last is Archduke/Archduchess. A "Duke" or "Duchess" is usually the younger brother/sister or cousin (or even an Uncle) of the Emperor and his/her lands (sometimes inherited, sometimes conquered) are called a "Duchy" (Wales is actually a Duchy of England, even though it is, in theory, governed by the *Prince* of Wales) The "Arch" means that he or she ranks above all other dukes/duchesses in line of succession to the throne. (Note: The term "Grand Duke" or "Grand Duchess" usually -- but not always -- refers to the younger *twin* brother/sister of a King, but it's also sometimes interchangeable with "Archduke" or "Archduchess".)
Hope this helps.
Whoa, whoa, WHOA. There's been more than a few people here that have expressed caution at the idea, maybe exaggerated their amount of "do not want" even, but I haven't seen any downright "SCREW YOU HABSRO, BAWWWW MY FANON" comments tearing down the show for doing this.
ReplyDeleteIf anything, the ones "complaining about the complainers" have been more negative, which is weird because you would think they could get their point across without sounding like they're calling for a lynch mob of their own.
Yes, this means I've joined in on the hypocritical shuffle by complaining about *them*, but it's a reminder that no one side is stirring this pot, whether it's the responses to the news or the responses to responses, so to all of us over-doing it one way or another, we need to chill.
It's not fanfics we're worried about, guys! It's just hard to see how a third winged unicorn fits into the established symmetry of the Celestia/Luna dyad.
ReplyDeleteI love Braeburn... I wonder how these two new characters will turn out...
ReplyDeleteHmm a new Alicorn, and a princess non the less. I really hope this is something that the show's creators chose to do and that this isn't forced by Hasbro just as an accuse to make and sell more toys. this cartoon is really good and I who'd hate to see Hasbro compromise the story line, just to introduce more characters to sell more toys and accessory's, I love this cartoon and who'd hate to see it change into a cheep toy commercial.
ReplyDeleteso if this is going on the show i really hope they take time to explain how she is, personal back story, why she is a princess, what country she rule and how she is related to Celestia and Luna etc.
One thing im a bit curies about is that they are going to give here a special power, like Celestia (moving the sun) and Luna, (moving the moon and creating the night sky) i who'd hate if they just starting introduce new Alicorns and giving them power.
L
ike hey this is Princess Cadence she controls the power of love, hey this is Princess.... she controls the nature and can make stuff grow. I really hope they aren't doing something like that, it just seams so cheesy...
Anyways that aside, i believe that this can be a good addition to the show if the creator's hand are not tide and they are given time and are allowed to make this character as they see fit, the team Lauren Faust put together haven't failed to live up to the demands jet and I have very huge conference that they are going to create a weary good new character to the show if they are allowed to develop this new princess as they see fit and are not influenced by the corporate suits at Hasbro
If her cutie mark involves clouds, and Twilight's involves stars, is this irrefutable evidence that Twilight will become an Alicorn?

ReplyDelete@Bubblegum Pie
ReplyDeleteAccording to Lauren Faust, Celestia was supposed to be a Queen. but Hasbro wanted her to be a Princess, because "Princess" as a term is much more marketable for girls then Queen (you can thank Disney for that).
So to answer your question: Celestia and (presumably) Luna are the Queens of Equestria. They just go by the title Princess (making Equestria a Principality, instead of a Kingdom).
Here's my theory on this: She's the princess of another land that Twilight and her friends will go to for some reason. Simple as that, really.
ReplyDeleteI don't know how Francis's post confirms that either of those two mentioned characters are alicorns. As far as I can see, in no place did he say the word "alicorn". We do know now that there are other authority figures than Celestia or Luna, but who said they had to be alicorns or even from Equestria?
ReplyDelete@InkBluPegasus
ReplyDeletePrincess Cadence will attempt kill Celestia and Luna and rule with an iron hoof FOREVVERRRRR!!! >:D
But when all seems lost, Shining Armor will use his ultimate attack: These hooves of mine are BURNING RED!!! SHIIIINIIIING ARRRRMORRRR!!
And then, lulz. ;P

ReplyDeleteHmmm....Judging by the image, I'm going ot venture a guess and say that our new Alicorn isn't as powerful as Celestia or Luna. Take a look at her mane: Celestia's and Luna's are big and flowing. Since the image is a still, it's not flowing, but it's not big. Maybe she's a young Alicorn compared to Celecstia and Luna.
ReplyDeleteAnother theory is that she's a Celestia's kid. Now, before anyone says it's impossible becuase prince blueblod is just a unicorn, we must take into accound that we really don't know much about the Alicorn, seeing as we only have two (not counting Cadence yet as her episode isn't our yet.) How often are alicorns born if they are? Are they made? Who can give birth to them? Too many questions about her origion at this point.
As for my opinion of her, check back when the episdoe airs.
So does this mean Cadence is an immortal goddess, or is Cadence a mortal alicorn?
ReplyDelete@Quilton
ReplyDeleteFanon > Canon in a fandom.
Canon is just a reference, can't let it stifle the creative flow of an artist, be they writer or otherwise.
If someone wants to completely cut out Cadence and have their own theory on Alicorns, I will read it if it doesn't suck, and if it's good I will support them all the way. o/
@Harwick
ReplyDeleteWhat's wrong with a Dualistic Pantheon?
Light and Dark as generalizations have always existed in fantasy as being two opposing/harmonious forces. Not all fantasy breaks it down into a god for nose-picking and ten for venereal diseases.
Mayeb an alicorn beign born is somethign rare, and princess candence is the first to be born in a long long time. Like somne sort of genetic thing. idk. I'm sure that it will be great episode though! Faust left some good wters there, so maybe this won't be the drop in quality many are expecting. Besides, canon is usually better than fanon, no offense. Remember Luna?
ReplyDeleteP. Cadence is just like G3 Fluttershy... but with a horn and wings.
ReplyDeleteP. Cadence looks a lot like G3 Fluttershy... with a horn and wings.
ReplyDeleteI think these characters will appear in an upcoming episode where Rainbow Dash is hospitalized and reads; they might be the characters from the book she'll read.
ReplyDeleteWhy is this such a big deal? We've already seen another alicorn.. I know at least /1/ person on here knows of her, but.. It seems like a lot of people are acting like there wasn't a canon third alicorn before this point. ^^; Pluto? Check the background at 05:06.

Official word now is that Shining Armor is Twilight's brother. Chew on that for a while.
ReplyDeleteso excited really can wait i really want to see it now.heheheh
ReplyDeleteRumors on the future of the show, whether or not they make to to Equestria Daily, usually turn out to be true.
