At least I saw enough to see where the episode as a whole is going.
I wish they had a more modern metropolis feel though; with a mix of hipsters, homeless people, and questionable stores at ground level, and all the rich/fancy types cooped up in their penthouses or perpetually busy working.
I'd prefer that feel to the uptight victorian england feel.
- Rarity solo song. - Party canon. - Soaked Opal. - Octavia showing up again. - The kind of wreck and chaos that I expected in The Grand Galloping Gala. - And Fancy Pants is now Clark Gable in my eyes.
This episode was awesome. My only complain: It needed more Luna ^_^; But it was great!
This was a good episode. A solid lesson very in line with Rarity and the others. It doesn't explain how Rarity diverged from Ponyville culture... but it was well crafted. And I liked Fancypants. And the song was amazing!
Quite possibly the best episode of the series so far. Loved the ponified Salvador Dali painting. (Must admit I've come up short trying to ponify his name... Salvahorse? Dal-neigh? Seriously, I've got nothin'.)
So, kids, what have learned? - Rarity is a bitch - She has better friends than she deserves - Not everypony in high-society is such a class-racist like her - She got totally undeserved saved
God what an amazing ep. Best writing of the season so far. Rarity stays in character and has well-established conflicting motivations, and even Fancy Pants turns out to be more than just another one-dimensional rich pony. Even the lesson has more depth to it than normal (in fact that's usually not a lesson you have to remember until later in life). But we still get awesome stuff like the party cannon.
And that song is easily one of my favorites so far. Catchy beat and really cool visual presentation.
I could so see that happnening, she would blink a few times and go of course i am, who else better to teach the wounderbolt then the pony who did a sonic rainboom..Twice!!!
Well, another episode proving that ponyvillians are villagers. And, in realtion to yesterday's message about loving our animators, it was unnecessary. The episode wa great~ Definetely top of season 2, just next to lesson zero
Having not yet seen the episode I can't really make an opinion about it, but only reading all the comments here makes all my worries for "S2-Shark-Jumping" fade away.
I never thought that I would say that but I hope we're never see that hick window cleaner again. I don't hate Snips and Snails but this guy... urghh...
OK, I attend alot of fundraisers and charity events (yes there are 1% Brony's) and the way they captured the social interaction and the way the Ponies interacted with each other way dead on and honestly...I might have to sceen this at the next fundraiser I attend!
Around this time there's a new post about a new ep. Since ep 11 is a Christmas special and since there was a gap for the Halloween ep, that means that there's a gap for Christmas! D:
I loved the ridiculous accents on the high class ponies and the cameo appearance by Derpy in her Nightmare Night costume. Overall I thought it was a great episode, but Rarity saying "I have to use the little fillies room" was kind of surprising. Bathrooms are now canon.
Every single thuing about this episode was brilliant! Canterlot architecture! A song! Hilarity! Part Cannon! Octavia! Squeaky voiced teen pony (what do we name him?) Shallow posh ponies! Fancy Pants not being a jerk and his Luna-ish mare who lounges about lookin' pretty! Rarity's art judging outfit (never thought I'd care about that, but it's getting some fanart now!) Pretty sure I'm missing something, but daamn, I loved this ep. Which is odd, because Rarity is...was, my least favourite.
Cute episode. I thought it was pretty humorous too. Though this is one I felt could have really benefited from having a longer time slot. It just seemed like there was more build to it before resolving hastily. But that doesn't take away from my enjoyment of it, the posh ponies of Canterlot had me chuckling with their behavior and seeing the rest of the mane 6 show up made it even more fun. Oh and the song was short but sweet.
What a fantastic episode. I have no complaints. The party cannon, Rarity manhandling Opal, Twilight being the BEST FRIEND EVER, the song, everything was amazing.
1) Another brilliant song. 2) Party cannon 3) I swear the Wonderbolts Derby scene felt like a variation on the dog race scene from Pretty Woman. 4) OCTAVIA!
Epic-tier episode. I now await the remixes of the song as well as a Flash game utilizing the party cannon.
I would expect the Elements of Harmony to be a title of some prestige. They should at least be known, enough so that Rarity could have said Rainbow was the Element of Loyalty instead of lying. But that would kinda break the episode. Truth be told, I just dislike Rarity so pay my comments about the episode little to no attention.
I just can't get over how good this one was... Solid character development, and the lesson hit WAY too close to home, in a very good way. I think I'll call up some old friends tonight..
One thing that I really liked about this episode was that though it portrayed the upper-crust as different, it didn't portray them as unapproachable. Like anything else, it's in how you handle things.
What we need now is an Applejack song or a Twilight song. Rainbow also doesn't really get any solos while Pinkie usually only gets short songs (though there will be the smile song.)
WOOO Okay, highlights of the episode: - Awesome Rarity song - OCTAVIA - Twilight being adorkable - new Canterlot scenes to vector - Lyra in a hat Rarity is really growing on me this season c:
This may be my favorite episode of this season so far, but it's a close contest between Lesson Zero and May the Best Pet Win. This was 100 times better than last week's episode...
That was a fantastic episode! The depictions of Canterlot were fantastic, all the background ponies were really cool, and I was beyond thrilled to see the return of the Wonderbolts, Photo Finish, Prince Blueblood and Octavia, even if they didn't have any speaking lines. The song was great, though May the Best Pet Win still holds out as my favorite Season 2 song so far.
AND THEY HAVE FLYING CRUISE SHIPS. FLYING. CRUISE. SHIPS. HOW BUCKING AWESOME IS THAT?!?
I don't know what it is about her, but Rarity seems to rather consistently bring out the best in this show's writers. From "Suited for Success" to "A Dog and Pony Show" to "Sisterhooves Social", episodes focused on Rarity tend to be among the show's very best. I don't know that "Sweet and Elite" quite lives up to that standard, with a final act that feels just a little bit rushed and confused, but it nonetheless is absolutely successful overall.
I must again confess my newfound respect for how well not having Twilight be the only Pony to do Friendship Reports has successfully freed up the show in a lot of ways; I somehow doubt we could've gotten such a nice, sharp focus on Rarity, and just Rarity, in the first two Acts without that idea in play. And, unsurprisingly, she rises to the occasion wonderfully; I always appreciate this show when it succeeds in approaching a typical scenario like this with a level of nuance (and good humor) that most shows would shirk from or oversimplify, and Rarity's clearly-conflicted emotions over both sides of the equation regarding her newfound notoriety in Canterlot and her obligations and friendships in Ponyville are excellently handled, both by the script and the always-sterling Tabitha St. Germaine. "A Pony Everypony Should Know" is perhaps a bit too lyrically simplistic to stand up to "Art of the Dress" (or even "Find A Pet"), but it's still a catchy and enjoyable number that conveys exactly what it needs to in an effective and enjoyable manner.
Admittedly, once Twilight and the others show up, it does feel a bit like the episode is no longer entirely sure what to do with them. Their initial surprise appearance at Rarity's suite is hysterical (especially what happens to poor Opal X3; ), and likewise Rarity's attempts to juggle the two parties is handled very well, but once the girls actually crash the Garden Party...it's hardly bad or not enjoyable, but it just sort of feels a bit overdone, moving by a bit too fast. Rarity's final declaration of friendship in particular receives surprisingly short shrift, despite it being kind of the crux of the episode.
Still, on the whole, "Sweet and Elite" is another in a proud legacy of excellent Rarity episodes, and continues Season 2's enjoyable trend of putting a real focus on Character that I continue to enjoy week to week. :)
I was just in the stream and Rarity's song came back on, but I had to watch an advert half way through. But when the timer expired, the advert didn't show up, unlike during the first viewing.
There we have it: Adverts refuse to ruin amazing songs involving ponies
I liked this episode. Rarity may not have been "punished" for lying, as such, but she clearly realized that she'd been doing wrong, and she did the right thing when it mattered and when she was most exposed - which is what counts.
Pony justice is not "eye-for-an-eye" - it's the greatest good for the most Ponies.
Also, yeah! Party Cannon!
In addition, I saw a suggestion on Ponibooru to name the wispy french-marked supermodel dangling off of Fancy Pants "Fleur de Lis" - what does everypony think?
I just realized guys, Spike wasn't in this episode.
It's definitely compensating for next week's, since that will be all Spike centered. But it also makes me realize, the only character of the entire series that has showed up in every episode is Applejack. AJ's centric episode is not that far away guys. We're going to get it >:3
Oh! and I almost forgot. If the creators are rading this, i just wanted to say that you guys have been doing an awesome job with the show, keep it up! (if...um.....uh....you don't mind..)

ReplyDeleteRAINBOW DASH: ...That's me!

It's Octavia!
ReplyDeleteFancy Pants is best troll. Great episode.
ReplyDeleteOkay guys, that was beautiful.
ReplyDelete- Rarity solo song.

ReplyDeleteGreat episode! And not just because it has Rarity...
ReplyDeleteThis episode was pure awesome: I had no idea how it was gonna end. To have the John Cleese unicorn turn out to be a decent guy was pure genius.
ReplyDeleteNew song. Remixers, get to it.
ReplyDeleteA -likeable- rich gentelecolt? What has this world come to?
ReplyDelete@Josh Spicer
ReplyDelete"May the Best Pet Win" was better.
/trollface
Rarity episodes are the best.
ReplyDeletePoor Octavia...that's two gigs Pinkie crashed on her.
ReplyDelete{artu Cammpm

So, kids, what have learned?

- She got totally undeserved saved
THIS EPISODE WAS AWESOME1!!!!!!!!!! <3

ReplyDeleteLOVED this episode.
ReplyDeleteLoved Pinkie with her Party Cannon

Best EP EVER!!!!
ReplyDeletewell I need to rewatch to go more indepth but first thoughts.
ReplyDeletesecond best episode of the season. GODDAMN THAT WAS GOOD.
This episode.
ReplyDeleteIt's just so full of epic win.
It was awesome, a song, octavia, new party music, omg, now it's one of my favorite 3 episodes
ReplyDeleteGod what an amazing ep.
ReplyDeleteAnd that song is easily one of my favorites so far. Catchy beat and really cool visual presentation.
"Party Cannon".... I smell a new pony meme.
ReplyDeleteOctavia, song, episode about fancy marshmallow, awesome episode :D
ReplyDeleteSo super rainbow dash... I mean awesome. cannot go wrong with Rarity, plus song, plus Party Cannon! hahah excellent episode.
ReplyDelete@Quantarum
ReplyDeleteI could so see that happnening, she would blink a few times and go of course i am, who else better to teach the wounderbolt then the pony who did a sonic rainboom..Twice!!!
@James Cork
ReplyDeleteFP reminds me of John Cleese, which I mentioned earlier.
I for one absolutely loved the episode! It had another wonderful song from Daniel Ingram and an Octavia appearance!
ReplyDeleteEleventh Doctor Pony!!
ReplyDeleteGreat episode.
ReplyDeletethe song was nice and the end was Great.
I just thought of something. Doesn't anyone else find it strange that Spike isn't at Twilight's birthday party?
ReplyDeletePinky Pie's Party Canon is now Cannon :)
ReplyDeleteGREAT EPISODE but i was hoping that Rarity will be busted at her lies... oh well...
ReplyDeleteRarity to Opal "I am SO sorry" lmao
ReplyDeleteTwilight being adorkable, song, Octavia.
ReplyDeleteI'm happy now
money is on bellhop being Snails bro.
ReplyDeletePARTY CANNON! RETURN OF OCTAVIA! WONDERBOLT RACE!
ReplyDeleteOne of my favourites.
ReplyDeleteRarity is best poni.
@Wootnessy
ReplyDeleteDanke. It was only a matter of time. It just had to be the correct time and environment. And this was obviously the perfect one. :)
Great episode yet again! :)
ReplyDeleteparty cannon :D!
ReplyDeleteOccupy Canterlot!!
ReplyDeleteWell, another episode proving that ponyvillians are villagers. And, in realtion to yesterday's message about loving our animators, it was unnecessary. The episode wa great~ Definetely top of season 2, just next to lesson zero

ReplyDeleteHaving not yet seen the episode I can't really make an opinion about it, but only reading all the comments here makes all my worries for "S2-Shark-Jumping" fade away.
ReplyDeleteBest birthday present EVER!
so many new meme material ;_;
ReplyDelete@Sedaheht
ReplyDeleteI totaly heard it as cocaine mallet as well.
I never thought that I would say that but I hope we're never see that hick window cleaner again. I don't hate Snips and Snails but this guy... urghh...

ReplyDeleteYES! Much better episode this week. Mare-Do-Well was a little rocky, but the pony is back as proud and awesome as before. Hurrah!!
ReplyDeleteAround this time there's a new post about a new ep. Since ep 11 is a Christmas special and since there was a gap for the Halloween ep, that means that there's a gap for Christmas! D:

ReplyDeleteCanterlot architecture!
A song!
Hilarity!
Part Cannon!
Octavia!
Squeaky voiced teen pony (what do we name him?)
Shallow posh ponies!
Fancy Pants not being a jerk and his Luna-ish mare who lounges about lookin' pretty!
Rarity's art judging outfit (never thought I'd care about that, but it's getting some fanart now!)
Pretty sure I'm missing something, but daamn, I loved this ep. Which is odd, because Rarity is...was, my least favourite.
@Gentlecolt
ReplyDeleteAGREED!!!
ReplyDelete@Mightanic
ReplyDeletesomepony (or dragon) has to watch the library
@Ardensfax Only the town names are pony puns; the ponies themselves generally don't have names like that. Dali would be Crazy Mustache or something.
ReplyDeleteOh man Fancy Pants' posing companion is even funnier the second time around.
ReplyDeletePony conga!
ReplyDeleteI woke up today and said "ugh, another Rarity episode." I watched it and was all like "BEST RARITY EPISODE!"
Pinkie Pie canon is now cannon.
ReplyDelete...that makes more sense than I was expecting it would.
Beret Rarity fanart please.
ReplyDeleteThis was a great ep but Rarity really got saved so many times, in my head canon she apologizes and tells everypony the truth when they get home.
ReplyDeleteI mean if she doesnt it really comes off like she is a total bitch.
Fancy Pants sounds more of a Cary Elwes (Westley from the Princess Bride) than John Cleese.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic episode. I have no complaints. The party cannon, Rarity manhandling Opal, Twilight being the BEST FRIEND EVER, the song, everything was amazing.
ReplyDeleteAww man, was it wrong of me to be legitimately PO'd at Rarity for a sizeable chunk of the ep?
ReplyDeleteEven if she did stick by her friends right at the end?
Seeing the Unicorn with pink hair...she so thin...and yet she reminds me of a harry potter Veela....type character
ReplyDeleteOkay, first airing of episode over.
ReplyDeleteWOW. Just wow. Another Rarity song, more Canterlot, more Wonderbolts, Rarifaint, Party Cannon... All sorts of goodies!
And the writing for this episode was bang on, very well done. Top Tier episode for Season 2.
RARITY'S SONG. <3
ReplyDeleteEVERYPONY <3
EVERYTHING <3
Ohoho guy guys, lets not forget, we technically got more Luna this episode. Royal canterlot voice...announcer.
ReplyDelete@WizardWannabe Agh, Airships! Knew I forgot something.
ReplyDeleteSeriously. AIRSHIPS.
This pleases me so intensely.
1) Another brilliant song.
ReplyDelete2) Party cannon
3) I swear the Wonderbolts Derby scene felt like a variation on the dog race scene from Pretty Woman.

(Plus, TAVI'S BACK!!!!!)
Well, at least Discord wasn't Q this time. Hey-o
ReplyDeleteMore canon Wonderbolts names; Rapid Fire and Fleetfoot. Also Rarity keeps one upping herself with her increasingly fabulous hair.
ReplyDeleteIs it me or is the bellboy a reference to the squeaky-voiced teen from The Simpsons?
ReplyDeleteCOME ON GYROBOWL COMMERCIAL!
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteIsn't Ironic that the "Elements of Harmony" had cause some chaos twice?
ReplyDeleteWhat we need now is an Applejack song or a Twilight song. Rainbow also doesn't really get any solos while Pinkie usually only gets short songs (though there will be the smile song.)
ReplyDeleteI really hope that for the rest of the season Celestia just randomly creeps into the shot whenever somepony writes a letter.
ReplyDeletePrepare the Orbital Party Canon.
ReplyDeleteAirships, Cannons, Wonderbolts, Song xD
ReplyDeleteAlso, they always -always- return to the scene of the crime.
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteReally liking this episode :D, Pinkie's party cannon and overly-understanding Twilight was a brilliant touch!
ReplyDeleteOH OH OH OH. That was tops!
ReplyDeleteThe pink haired Unicorn needs to be drawn as a veela!Fleur! name her Fleur please!
ReplyDeleteThis season has been nothing but amazing. I am still waiting for Pinkie centric episode though.
ReplyDeleteWOOO
ReplyDeleteOkay, highlights of the episode:
- Awesome Rarity song
- OCTAVIA
- Twilight being adorkable
- new Canterlot scenes to vector
- Lyra in a hat
Rarity is really growing on me this season c:
Another Rarity episode that not only did not disappoint, but it was just so utterly fantastic that I may have to rearrange my top 3 favorite episodes.
ReplyDeleteThis may be my favorite episode of this season so far, but it's a close contest between Lesson Zero and May the Best Pet Win. This was 100 times better than last week's episode...

was i the only one who absolutely hated the song?
ReplyDeleteFancy Pants is awesome, and Trophy Wife (with coat, pink mane) was a good design. Reminds me of a filly Celestia.
ReplyDeleteBTW, I call the Canon Cannon a new meme. Used for when the show disproves a fanon topic. Whose with me?
AIRSHIPS! I exploded three times when I saw that!
ReplyDeleteI was just in the stream and Rarity's song came back on, but I had to watch an advert half way through. But when the timer expired, the advert didn't show up, unlike during the first viewing.
There we have it: Adverts refuse to ruin amazing songs involving ponies
@CTOONfan1
ReplyDeleteWhite Coat, Pink Mane. Stupid derping fingers typing.
@Unpony
ReplyDeleteSame here, still waiting for a Pinkie Pie episode.
Two horseshoes Dolce & Gabbana logo simile :)
ReplyDeleteI liked this episode. Rarity may not have been "punished" for lying, as such, but she clearly realized that she'd been doing wrong, and she did the right thing when it mattered and when she was most exposed - which is what counts.
ReplyDeletePony justice is not "eye-for-an-eye" - it's the greatest good for the most Ponies.
Also, yeah! Party Cannon!
In addition, I saw a suggestion on Ponibooru to name the wispy french-marked supermodel dangling off of Fancy Pants "Fleur de Lis" - what does everypony think?
I just realized guys, Spike wasn't in this episode.
ReplyDeleteIt's definitely compensating for next week's, since that will be all Spike centered. But it also makes me realize, the only character of the entire series that has showed up in every episode is Applejack. AJ's centric episode is not that far away guys. We're going to get it >:3
Brilliant episode!
ReplyDeleteLarge Ham Rarity!
Awesome song!
Superb writing!
Octavia!
PARTY CANNON!!!
A rich pony who's NOT a jerk!
SUCK IT, S2 neighsayers!
Oh! and I almost forgot. If the creators are rading this, i just wanted to say that you guys have been doing an awesome job with the show, keep it up! (if...um.....uh....you don't mind..)
ReplyDeleteDid anyone catch a Derpy derp in this episode? I'll have to rewatch
