    2. Where is Picard when you need him? I totally agree that Discord is Q, He even has the same powers! Notice, in the stain-glass scene, how he makes the elements of harmony disappear with a snap of his fingers and a flash of light. Also happens again later. Ill have to find the quote but I'm sure Q has mentioned other dimensions that he has visited before. This must be one of them!

This was produced at the same time as season 1, before Lauren stepped down.

    11. Idk if this has been said already
      Speculation for ep2:
Twilight will be Discord-ed and will end up in Celestia's castle which can be somewhat seen in the Hub fall commercial where every pony except Twilight and RD are in that one moment (no idea on RD whereabouts).

Probably it'll just be the Executive Producer credit in the end credits.

    22. 1000 posts in less than 24 hours, as I predicted. Sadly, that means this isn't a good place for actual meaty discussion as any post will simply be washed away in the flood. Oh well, anyway... here are a few thoughts:

The writers invoked an internet meme openly and blatantly, Pinkie even spelling out the already obvious fact that it was "chocolate rain". I think that is awesome. I'm almost scared what little nuances they'll add from here out.

Discord ruled Equestria before the Pony Sisters, so that means they aren't eternal and didn't create Equestria outright, but rather molded it into what it is now. So many fanfic theories were rendered obsolete by this revelation, while a few were vindicated.

We're seeing more sides to Celestia now, and she seems less like a purely benign entity (Discord to Celestia: "I'M not the one who turns ponies to stone." was a great line), while also seeming less godlike and more on a relatable level.

For instance, she was trollololed when the box holding the Elements of Harmony was opened in front of everyone and to her surprise was empty. That scene also, I think, sets of the reappearance of Luna. The chamber's spell could only be opened by Celestia, but I'm betting Discord got a hold of Luna and she was the one who helped him gain possession of them. I'm sure he was delighted when he woke up to find the sisters in such a vulnerable state.

The order in which Discord attacked (seduced? corrupted?) the Mane Six was interesting. Applejack first, and Dash last, like Nightmare Moon's attempts except the difference is where she failed miserably, Discord succeeded spectacularly and had fun time doing. The ponies lost hard, and that was darker than I imagined.

Pinkie Pie was turned, but Pinkamina Diane Pie didn't appear. This is interesting. I wonder if it means friendship has 'cured' her of that side, or if Pinkamina's surfacing really is the product of another mechanism that goes deeper than just a spell. That is, actual mental illness.

So many things... I need to rewatch ASAP.

      ReplyDelete
    23. So we have a gif of Discord dancing...What about Fluttershy's tail whip?

      ReplyDelete
    24. I just KNOW the elements aren't just invisible inside that box in "that chamber that's protected with a powerful spell that only Celestia can break"...

I mean, Discord saying: "To retrieve your missing elements just make sense of this change of events. Twists and turns are my master plan. Then find the elements back where you began" can't POSSIBLY be relevant to the plot, riiiiight? :D

    25. Watching this for the fourth time today, I just noticed something...That little descending synth (or flute, I can't really tell) noise that serves as Discord's theme (or at least, the start of his theme) plays when his statue is introduced in the opening. I'm taking that to mean the CMC didn't set him free, but rather their fighting was caused by Discord as he started to break out of the stone.

Also, again, kudos to William Anderson. That little descending stinger is perfect for Discord. Wonderul music one again.

      ReplyDelete
    26. For clarification - around 0:56, the stinger plays on a push-in of Discord's stone face - and THEN the CMC start fighting.

    28. @Ace of Swords

Well, I'm sure she's rather kill them, but she has to deal with the whole 'child-friendly' bureaucracy! She was probably like, "But they'll all eventually escape one day and pose a threat to all my little ponies!" And the execs replied, "Yeah! Think of all the season openers we can get out of that!" And then Celestia was like, >:| "And ponies call me a troll..."

Fluttershy: Oh I'll always trust and love my friends forever because I just do. My friends are the best friends ever and nothing could ever ever make me feel differently.

      Discord: Uhm.. what about...

Fluttershy: Why don't we discuss why they're such good friends over a nice, quite little tea party. I could have Angel bring over some Darjeerling I bought last week.

Discord: Actually, I think we need to...

Fluttershy: And if you wouldn't mind waiting a little longer, I can bake some fresh scones. Do you like raisins or chocolate chips in your scones? Or maybe cinnamon? I'm preferable to blueberry myself, but they're not in season right now. I could make crumpets instead if you'd...

Discord: OH FOR GODS SAKE!!!! *poing!* There! You're evil now! Done and done!

Fluttershy: Rar! I is hates U all now! >:C

    36. I believe Twilight got the riddle wrong. The Elements of harmony are right where they always been, in their bonds of friendships.

The maze was just an opportunity to separate and isolate each pony to break them.

However if the Mane 6 had to travel, the Elements are probably in the Old Castle, within the Everfree Forest, the once place in Equestria where chaos is most strong.

I wonder if Dr Whoove will be able go against Discord. Probably not as Dr Whoove is the champion of Chaos.

Discord, really is an evil Q. He exploited every weakness of the Mane 6

AppleJack... to honest to understand that a twisted truth is better than any lie.

Rarity... greed. Though that is a facet of an Entrepreneur Mare. She is most aware about that.

Rainbow Dash.... loyalty... the easiest to corrupt. Loyalty to who? Loyalty to friends? Equestria or the Pegasi? Who has Rainbow Dash's ultimate loyalty.

Pinkie Pie... well yes laughter. Fine line between laughing with you and at you. Too bad, there was animation error. Pinkamina Diane Pie should have straight hair. (no poofy hair)

Yay for Fluttershy. She need Force Corruption to take hold of her. Yay for tail whip. Some brony needs to draw Fluttershy as Beldandy (Oh my Goddess)

Thank you for saving me a lot of typing, Ryan. ^^

Instead, I can just point out that the best things about this episode were Unhexed Pinkie "Oh well, if anyone needs me, I'll be outside in the chocolate puddles with a GIANT swizzle straw." Hexed Rarity "I know where you live." and Unhexed Rarity "I heard about your troubles, Applejack, and I came to see if there's anything I can do. Without getting wet. Or dirty. Or out from under my umbrella."

    39. PS: We need Captain Pic Card!

Only this bald stallion of Celestria's Royal can hold down Discord until Twilight Sparkle is able to recover the Elements of Harmony.

PSS: Hmmm CMC accidentally releases ancient evil that has been imprisoned in a statue? Sounds like a familiar plot. I knew the CMC would either save Equestria or damned it FOREVER. THose three will shape the future, mark my words.

    45. @Gary, way above: Pinkie x DisQord (saw that spelling on memebase) would make a lot of sense. When I heard Pinkie's lines at the beginning, I thought that was his havoc, corruption starting with the pony closest to his 'heart,' the queen of entropy.

Concerning the CMC: "their fighting was caused by Discord as he started to break out of the stone."

I think I agree with you here. The three of them suddenly breaking into a fight is HIGHLY out of character for all of them. In fact, they even seemed a little malicious there for a minute. I would have expected that out of Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon, but not Apple Bloom, who instigated it, and then Sweetie Belle who pulled out the name-calling.

    49. Amazing episode, and discord is an amazing villain (the parallels to Q blew my mind). So much epic, and to think, all from a show called my little pony friendship is magic.

    52. @SoFDMC

      For crissakes...

Lauren is not listed as Executive on this episode for shits and giggles. This was produced before she stepped down from her role.

And it's not her fault that they got the idea to do this plot at a point at which they wouldn't even consider doing a FiM made for TV movie. Next time they have too much for a two parter, I hope they'll go for a TV special instead.

      ReplyDelete
    53. I feel like such a bad brony for saying this, but I disagreed with over half of the Element assignments.

Really, this is a flaw I'm pointing out in the first season...but since the Elements were brought up here again, it only made me realize even MORE how incorrectly associated they are.

Pinkie as happiness? HELL YEAH! AGREE!
Fluttershy as kindness? YES! YAY! WIN!

      Applejack as Honesty?

      Uh...

      ...mmm...

nope, 'fraid not. She's lied so many times throughout the series it's almost laughable.

Now, Applejack as LOYALTY? HELL YEAH!

      Speaking of loyalty...

      Rainbow Dash? Loyal?

Yes, technically. But it really, really, really, really seemed forced. Like, almost PAINFULLY forced. Like they couldn't think of any other word to describe her, so they just made her loyal.

      So what's better?

Well...how about enthusiasm! Energy! Motivation! Excitement! All of those are great virtues that she has in SPADES!!!

      Now the really tough one.

      Rarity as Generosity.

This one's close. Really, really close.

But it just doesn't hit the mark.

You see, Rarity does MORE than just be generous. She CREATES! She DESIGNS! She MAKES! And that's more than just being generous. That's constribution!

      What's the difference?

You wouldn't say "that's for being so generous and writing that book". Instead, you'd say "thanks for writing that book and _contributing_ to our literary collection"

Subtle difference. Generosity is more for "I have money, let me give you some", or, "I have too much food, would like some of it?"

Rarity does more than simply be generous. I think that's almost undermining her passion for contribution.

      And last, but not least...

      ...drumroll...

      MAGIC. IS. NOT. AN. ELEMENT!!!

Magic is not a virtue! It's a power! Honesty, Generosity, Loyalty, Laughter, Kindness...MAGIC??? WTF???

Magic is the MEDIUM through which the elements work! NOT an element in and of itself! It would be like saying "you don't need any virtues if you have power"! And as many of today's people may think that's true, I KNOW that's not the message they want to get across in the show!

Okay, so then what IS Twilight's element?

Well, really, it's DEDICATION! Because TWILIGHT NEVER GIVE UP!!!

Watch every episode in season 1. See how blasted stubborn she is! She'll see absolutely everything through to the end, even in the face of looking stupid!

Or, if you want something more "conglomerate", since she pulls the group together, how about the element of FOCUS. She focuses and never gets distracted. She focuses all the magic together, and binds all the friends together!

      So the sum it up:

      Applejack: LOYALTY
      Rainbow Dash: ENTHUSIASM
      Pinkie Pie: LAUGHTER
      Fluttershy: KINDNESS
      Rarity: CONTRIBUTION
      Twilight Sparkle: FOCUS

      Together, they form: FRIENDSHIP

And using the elements, this dispatches MAGIC to defeat the evil.

      ReplyDelete
    54. Having finally watched it (and downloaded it and put it on my media player for my huge HDTV :) ), it felt like a rather typical season-opener. It was a little forced as they shoe-horned in a bunch of slightly awkward character stuff to introduce the show to new viewers. All in all, though, pretty good.

      ReplyDelete
    55. @SingForTheMoon

Someone had an idea on this. It was probably supposed to be longer. Closer to a 3 part.

    60. @Ganymede: You missed the part where Applejack is a comically terrible liar.

      ReplyDelete
    61. @Silfir

Yeah. I look at Party of One for the best example of this; everypony comes up with a lie fairly quickly, and does what they need to do to build on it and make it plausible.

Applejack spends the longest time um-ing and er-ing, and is the only one whose excuse is something she's ALREADY DOING. She should have had the easiest time. "Look, I'm picking apples! I'm going to keep picking apples!"

And then she stutters and nearly confuses herself, and then has a terrible poker face to boot. Out of all the lies to get out of the afterparty, hers was the worst.

She WAS slightly better when Pinkie got to the barn, though.

Well how about Rarity styling a complete stranger's hair? How about offering to make 5 friends dresses? How about sacrificing her own tail for a complete stranger, that isn't even a pony (ok, this was a forced, on purpose example but it still counts).

      Rarity is definitely generous.

    68. Is it possible for someone/some group to compile the viewer numbers for the Season 2 premier. I know that cable TV has a way of tracking viewer numbers, and so does YouTube. I assume that streaming services can also track the number of people connected to a stream at a particular time. If you combine all these, you would have an estimate of how many viewed the show during it's initial broadcast.

      I bet it's a lot!

      ReplyDelete
    69. Theory: Remember what drove Applejack a little crazy? The vision in the pond? Why were all the ponies back in Ponyville? Why was the ground around them in black-and-white checkerboard? Why were the buildings floating on hunks of rock or upside down? Were they all clones of the real Mane Six? Were they in an alternate universe? Were they in a time loop? Why did they want to never see each other again? Was it determination, not anger, in their words? I think I glimpse part of episode 2~...

    70. Amazing animation.

Seriously, one of the best I had ever seen and miles from season 1. The only thing I had against is the complete lack of background ponies, of guards, of luna and well, while it make the entire journey of the mane cast more profound and personal, it can become a little jarring after season 1.

Also, is this is going to be like season 1 where the first double episode is amazing and the rest are so and so with some outstanding moments?

Weirdest moment: Rarity treath to Twilight " I know where you live".

Funny moment: A tie, between Discord utter exasperation with Fluttershy and practically saying "screw it" and just messing with her...

"Wait just a second girls. Eternal CHAOS cames with Chocolate rain gals. CHOCOLATE RAIN"

Most Awesome Moment: Discord Introduction. I mean, that is a voice for posterity, that one.

Creepy Moment: Rainbow Dash fall to madness. I mean pal, that's just messed up.

When the next episode comes out?

I'm having trouble understanding where you see most of that. Applejack lied all the time? Offhand, I can only think of one episode where she ever lied, and she proved rather bad at it. So I say honesty works fine.

How is loyalty "forced" with Rainbow Dash? She values her friends, and it shows quite frequently. Also, keep in mind that these are supposed to be facets of friendship, and your suggestion of "enthusiasm" is *not* a facet of friendship.

Generosity "doesn't hit the mark" with Rarity? Seriously? You're splitting hairs at best with this one. She contributes and gives freely because she's...*GENEROUS*.

Magic is not an element? It is in MLP:FiM, and once again your alternative, "dedication", does not fit as a facet of friendship. Besides, magic is supposed to be a metaphor to the power of friendship rather than something you take literally. Also, you're missing the point of Twilight. She does not represent any particular facet of friendship. She is the center, who gathers together her friends and gains the magic of friendship from them.

      ReplyDelete
    73. Applejack is a trusting soul. She don't look for deception and ain't comfortable with it- you might also think of the word 'earnestness' to help you wrap your head around the honesty thing.

Dashie is passionate and cares strongly and fiercely- even her blustering is like being self-loyal to a fault. Again, it kinda makes sense if you think laterally.

Rarity's one material girl! Generosity don't mean much if you don't care about STUFF, and Rarity cares super much about stuff, so when she gives it, it means somethin' :)

2.I think Rainbow is fairly loyal, although I've often thought she might be better suited for Honesty, just because she doesn't seem to have the tact to ever do anything except tell the truth.
3.I see where you're coming from with Rarity. But I think what you need to focus on isn't that she's a creator. Lots of people are creators. That's her job. What sets her apart isn't the fact that she creates, it's the reasons that she creates. Lots of people can make an incredible dress. Far fewer will put aside their own work to make incredible dresses for five of her friends. What always fascinated me about Rarity is the fact that she is entirely egocentric and focused on her own interests, until the instant she sees somepony in need. So, ultimately, I think she gets

And now, magic. This one was weird to me at first, too. And this is the completely subjective, personal interpretation I came up with. Magic is more than the simple power we see flowing from unicorn horns. Magic itself is an integral component of the world. Think of it like the Force. It binds every living thing, and pulls the universe together. Twilight is the (admittedly "mysterious") element of magic because she can not only use it, but acts as a reflection of that binding force. Like magic itself, she pulls the group together, regulating their relationships, and trying to ground their adventures with reason and knowledge. Or something like that. Take it as you will.

    75. These riddles will tell us where the elements whereabouts, need some help to crack them here.
[3] and [8] has already happened and is probably correct.

I also have a feeling these riddles is somehow connected but i can't see how.

      - An evil enchanter
      - Who does evil dances
      - And if you look deep in his eyes he will put you in trances.

So then in episode two what will he do?
      He will:
      - Mix up an evil brew
      - Then gobble them up in a big tasty stew

      OH CELESTIA NO!

With the exception of Party of One, AJ never lied...not once.

And even then, it was for the greater good of giving Pinkie her suprise party.

She made some misinformed statements that AT THE TIME THEY HAPPENED she thought was the truth ("She sure is strong for a little pony."), but that's not lying.

To give false information when you are not aware it is false is not lying.

    83. I'm calling it right now, the vision that applejack sees in the garden comes true, but Luna individually seeks out each pony and reminds them of how they saved Equestria the first time, thus leading to some epic speech and whatnot by Twilight (Who'll you notice wasn't turned by Discord) and them making a triumphant comeback thanks to Luna.

Ok, one other instance worth mentioning is Applebuck Season. Applejack insisting that she can do a task that is logically impossible for her alone can be interpreted as kind of lying to herself. Just in defense of the argument.

    86. The writers did an amazing job. Just watched the episode a second time (I know, I know, I'm slacking), and with a big enough gap between viewings, some thoughts that come to my mind:

      1) The writers did an amazing job; I still see three possible solutions to the riddle as to where the Elements are (1)in the box, hidden by magic, 2) in the castle in the Everfree forest, and 3) in the hearts of the ponies themselves).

      2) Fast paced, but I'm guessing this is like 'The Best Night Ever', with simply so much stuff that has to be squeezed in there simply isn't any time to stop and catch our breath. My biggest regret is that this isn't some sort of 90 minutes long made for TV movie, to then be released as a DVD later on. Most likely just wasn't in the budget when it came time, over a year ago, to green light the episodes.

      3) Tail whip Fulttershy + Rarity with the lines of 'I can't wait to get you home' AND 'I know where you live' = fetish fuel incoming.

      4) My biggest worry is that the recovery from their current states will be too fast; I'd like to see the climb back up take as long as the fall downward did.

I'll be waiting for episode 2 all week long; well done team!

(And why are people arguing about who is what Element at this point in time? Couldn't you have done this a bit more timely, like when they were assigned their Elements almost a year ago? NO need to change them at all, imo)

    93. Awesome premier, a little fast paced at the beginning but as soon as they hit Canterlot, that's where the fun Begins.
I liked Celestia's tale about Discord, it's funny that most creation myths usually have something conserning chaos at the start.

      Highlights:
      -Discord's stained glass conversation
      -Pinkie and chocolate rain
-Rarity almost succeeding at not being tempted
      -Angry Pinkie
-Discord giving up on corrupting Fluttershy through his usual method's- let's face it she's just too nice for that the ever work.
      -Cruelshy yet sassy
And an impressive feat of using Rainbow's own loyalty against her: stay and help your friends or leave and save your home. very sneaky.

The season's off to an excellant start and I can't wait to see how this turns out. Discord has been a wonderfull villian(also helps that he's played by Q himself John DeLacie) and I'm partially hooping he sticks around after the premier just because he's so dementedly fun.

In retrospec I realize that in that interview with the Director Jayson, he did mention that they managed to pull off some dark stuff for this season while still keeping it kid's friendly for the key demo.
I've gotta applaud them on that.

This was debated a lot on yesterday's comments... I'll stick to my opinion: her hair didn't get straight because she was wicked by Discord rather than turn by her conviction (as it happened in 1x25 Party of One).

Also remember that Pinkie Pie was plenty angry in Party of One even before her hair turned straight. That only happenend when she also turned depressed. Discorded Pinkie still only looks angry.

    99. Yeah, Pinkie's hair deflating seems to be directly related to being sad, specifically about losing her friends. At the moment she's just angry- notice that she's still tagging along with them instead of running off in disgust or something.

I love well-done rogues, and Discord more than counts. If he's gone after Episode 2 and doesn't stay as a running villain, I'll be pretty sad. Not the end of the world, though! Whatever happens, I'm hooked for another season.

think about it for a second before they were separated from the pony sisters the elements were likely always in the castle from the time discord was sealed until nightmare moon awoke.

he may be deciving not only the main 6 but Celestia as well because he may have simply sealed them in a deeper hidden part of the castle maybe over the ruins of the canterlot from a prior age.

Though for some reason it is not being listed on most watched on Youtube. Stats don't list it there for some reason... don't know why. Why you no like Ponies Youtube?

Anyway, My prediction for next episode. Ponyville starts falling under Discord's Chaos. Twilight tries to reunite friends, but fails due to Discords spell on them all. Applejack's vision becomes true and they do lose their friendship, thus discording Twilight (Element of Magic, which is Friendship) and raising the tension that the Cloudsdale vision might be true as well. Plot then follows the Crusaders, who know knowing all about Discord due to the essay they have to write, help break Discords spell on the Mane 6 and get them back together. Discord's plan defeated, as a final ditch effort, goes after Celestia and attempts to Discord her, or worse (I'm certain he's still annoyed about the being turned into Stone part, and if he can't get her Star Pupil, he'll get her instead.) Luna makes a triumphant entrance, then Discord get's beaten, Elements involved, but I honestly can't call how it's going to end.

    120. Remember the old clip of grey Rainbow Dash we saw about a month ago. We all wondered why she was grey, and now we know.

But there were TWO shots of grey Rainbow. One of her flying off with a cloud in her hooves, and another with her getting lassoed.

From this we can conclude that Applejack is probably restored to her normal self before Rainbow Dash. To further the guess, I'd say they come back the same order they go grey.

But there's something confusing about that. The cloud in the Grey Rainbow clip was white. It wasn't cotton candy like it was at the beginning of this episode. This could mean one of 4 things

      1) It was a rough draft animation. Maybe the person doing the reel just gave them a rough animation that was before the cloud turned pink.

      2) Rainbow Dash is brought back after Discord is defeated. This would be somewhat likely, but that would mean she took no part in beating Discord. Now it would be unlikely that Twilight takes him down herself, but it's less likely that they do it as an incomplete team.

      3) It's part of Cloudsdale that actually crumbled. Seems a little too dark to destroy an entire major city, so this is an unlikely choice unless she just picked up part of the ground in Cloudsdale.

      4) This is just an animation goof. Also unlikely since the guy who made it put it up so he could show his stuff. Putting up a goof would be not very smart.

I'm personally thinking number 2. This would mean Twilight takes out Discord herself.

So here's my final guess. Callin it right here:

The group does disassemble like in AJ's vision, but it's because most of them are still grey and mean, which tears them apart. Twilight goes off to fight Discord and stands no chance. But she DOES manage to weaken him to the point where he makes the world normal for a short period of time (Okay, that's sketchy, but it's a guess). Then she realizes she needs her friends, so one by one, she turns her friends nice again (AJ, then Pinkie, Rarity, Fluttershy, and finally Dash). Then, in their reunion, recreate the Elements of Harmony to defeat Discord.

Is this sketchy? Yes. But it's a guess.

      ReplyDelete
    121. Y'know, a lot of writers have depicted Celestia as more or less Equestria's goddess. And to be honest... I kind of like that portrayal. What can I say? It's neat to think they've got a whole goddess right there. But with what we've seen in this episode, is she more or less godlike?
      I've made a list. Take a look.

      1. She's still immortal.
      2. She's still the supreme magical and political authority of all ponies.
      3. She still controls the sun (and moon, as the case may be) at will. Not too shabby.
      4. She's still capable of surviving banishment to the sun, and of traveling from it when said banishment is lifted.
      5. She's still wise and benevolent, and a master manipulator.
      6. We still don't know exactly where she and Luna come from, so there is still an element of mystery to their origins.
      7. She's still... alicorn. She can fly and magic and stuff.
      8. She... still has... super hair.
      9. Still tall?

Okay I'm reaching. Anyway, what has been added to her character in this episode?

      10. With Luna, she is now possibly one of the first and only of her kind, and the oldest at that. She has no predecessors, or, if she does, she has none who could (or would) intervene on behalf of the "lesser" ponies. There could be a Jesus analogy in there somewhere. At any rate, she is a singular event in history.
      11. She now came to power by conquering a previous godlike being, which to me has parallels in both Greek and Norse mythology. A ruling pantheon who emerges to cast out undesirable powers (i.e. the titans, the frost giants) and paves way for a civilization. With a little thought, there are even Christian connotations here (god figure steps forth and says "let there be light" = goddess figure steps forth and says "let there be order").

The fact is, she hasn't really lost much of what she had before this episode, and has in fact gained several godlike traits. True, she no longer directly controls the Elements of Harmony. But then, we didn't think she always did until she told us she didn't anymore. And there's nothing to indicate that, given the right circumstances (such as the absence of the current "bearers"), she couldn't claim them again, as she must have claimed them before! So add to the list...

      12. She (and Luna) are capable of single-hoofedly commanding multiple elements at once.

So... yes, I think that, if any author wishes to do so, Celestia may still be described as the goddess of the pony race.
And I have no idea why it was important to me to make this post.
      This show, I swear.

This is the best quality I could find. It's similar to the 1080p mkvs of mentos/trollHD of season one for those that know what they are.

The differences are (This file vs mentos/trollHD):
8 missing horizontal lines (1920x1072 instead of 1920x1080)
      Stereo audio instead of 5.1
30 FPS instead of 24 FPS.

201 code is basically my way of labeling the eps, season 1 is code 100, 2 is code 200.
Ex: ep 16 of s1 is 116. Feel free to overwrite though ^^
I'm explaining just in case people doubt the validity of this download as it's not the usual MLPFiM prefix or what have you that mentos used to employ for season 1.

I didn't take Fluttershy's moment as them saying she's "better" but rather that Discord was playing up the wrong insecurities. With Applejack and Pinkie, they'd had issues in the past with trusting their friends or trusting others. Rarity's played on her own selfishness, as well as her CM which is connected to beauty and gems.

Discord tried to get Fluttershy to distrust her friends, but that's not where her character flaws come from She's never had a problem trusting the others, but rather in believing in herself. She tends to be a pushover for them, only being assertive when truly pressed. It's not as much a matter of Fluttershy not having a flaw, but Discord being unable to comprehend what it is.

      ReplyDelete
    125. Maybe the CMC will have something to do in Ep. two. They woke him up! However they have certain advantages:

I mean, they have no cutie mark to be tricked with, no virtue to betray whatsoever.

As much as I want a Luna involvement that might be the most reasonable conclusion.

    126. Twilight says everyone at 3:38.

Hey guys, what does that word mean?

      ReplyDelete
    127. Everyone is always everyone. EveryBODY is switched to everyPONY.

I was a bit concerned in the beggining. It didn't feel rushed in the sense that the quality of the animation was still strong, but all the ponies were acting strangely. And too many 'me-too's before they were called to Canterlot.

Once Discord appeared, though, the characterization went back to being what I expected from season one. So I'm guessing they were trying to get anyone who hadn't seen the show up to speed. They had to show what strengths and weaknesses the ponies had so that it made sense when they were perverted.

It's unfortunately a problem with no right solution. Trying to spend a couple of minutes to introduce each characters would consume almost the whole episode, and they still had to introduce the plot. Not spending any time would leave new people confused about the relevance.

I liked that a being of discord and chaos cheated. 'Rules' are a form of order, and for someone who doesn't see the fun in things making sense they serve no purpose. It bothered me that he would tell them how to recover the elements at the beggining, but the he showed he never intended to hand them back.

Thus, telling them just to break them up is a clever ruse, not a boneheaded mistake as so many villains tend to make.

      ReplyDelete
    128. I'm posting this now, knowing full well it's unlikely to be read, simply because I have now had time to mull over and digest the episode.

I definitely like where it's going. Discord is an excellent villain, the jokes were good (Chocolate rain) and the animation looked better than ever.

It was a bit rushed, but that was mostly because they had too much to say, which is so much better than not enough. Still, I think that if this episode was double the length and each individual corruption was given, not more weight exactly, but more of a chance to develop and resonate, then we would have had something truly special.

There was only one thing that truly bothered me. Princess Celestia could have been much more active. I'm willing to accept that she had faith in the main six (and for good reason), but she and Luna presumably have very high power levels and I would have thought she would have tried to slow Discord down, or at least not let the main six go out there alone.

If I had written the episode, I would have simply had Discord turn Celestia to stone, allowing the rest of the story to carry on as planned without the logical disconnect, and at the same time established Discord's power level and raised the stakes.

      If I was writing

And oh yes, featured. Keep it up.

Download VLC Player. Plays pretty much every movie format under the sun.

Some new DVD/BluRay players are compatible too, but they're usually really expensive. When I was looking for a new DVD player (Old one stopped working after I dropped it moving it one day D: ), the cheapest that played MKV was about $500.

I suppose I can see your point a little with Rainbow Dash and Applejack, even though when ever Applejack tries to lie she is as clear as glass. But the point of the elements isn't that they ponies are the elements, rather that the elements are a main part of the mane cast. Now the five parts Laughter, Generosity, Loyalty, Honestly, and Kindness come together to create friendship, which is a special force in itself, or magic. I personally love the choices they made because they are completely true. An awesome friend is someone who you can laugh with, isn't selfish, stands by you, is honest with you (Maybe not brutally but not lying to you all the time) and is kind.

    134. I love how Discord gives up on trying to break Fluttershy and just brainwashes her outright. Although I'm not sure why he did jack squat to Twilight...

    135. My favourite scene was with Discord in the stain glass window, great introduction to the villain. Like I said in my last comment, Discord is my favourite kind of villain; he’s evil, knows it, and loves every second of it. Complex villains can be fun but sometimes I miss the cartoon villains of old who were evil for the sake of being evil. Discord is a fun but very evil and threatening villain. The way he corrupts the ponies and their behaviour afterwords is kind of dark for a kids show, especially with what happened with Pinkie Pie. Looking back on Lauren Faust’s interview from the other day, they were really dancing on the line on what would and would not be acceptable and dragging the corruption scenes out longer would have made it too dark and lose the TV-Y rating. Remember this IS a young children’s show and for the constraints that they had to work with I think the team did a good job. I would have liked if this was a three parter, but once again a two part episode was probably pushing Hasbro’s patience as it is.

I like how Celestia knights Twilight before sending them off. Anyone else notice how Discord nudges Applejack when he says he removed everypony’s horns and wings so they can’t cheat?

The first time I watch it the beginning did feel a little rushed but that was just an artefact of only having 22 minutes to tell the story (44 minutes for the full two part episode). (Subsequent viewings have changed that perspective as I have had time to calm down and really watch it without the adrenalin rush from watching a new episode of pony. I suggest everyone do this). They had a lot of story to tell and very little time to tell it. And remember the production schedule was very rushed at this point since they went from Season 1 into season two with no breaks. The only thing that truly bugged me was that they did nothing to remove Celestia out of the picture. All that would be necessary would be a quick line from Discord along the lines of, “If you interfere Celestia I will (something something).”

Some people complain that the characters acted out of character. To that I say, that was kind of the point. Others complain that Discord using magic to hypnotise the ponies into acting counter to their element was cheating. To that I say, what part of all-powerful evil spirit of chaos do you not understand. I think @Ryan put it best, this is what I got from it too. He’s evil, why should he play fair, give the ponies a chance or follow his own rules. He is chaos given form, he will do whatever he wants. And yes he is using magic to mess with their minds, how else do you explain Rarity believing that a boulder is a diamond. From Fluttershy we know that he doesn’t have to play the mind games, he just likes doing it. Its fun and Fluttershy ruined his fun. He doen’t have to corrupt Twilight directly because the magic element is dependent on the spark of friendship, without the other five elements and the friendship they hold, the sixth element is useless.

I can’t wait for part 2 on Saturday. Once that airs and we have the full complete story we can rate the story as a whole.

    136. Before the episode came out, people were watching the spoilers and kept hearing about how Discord is a bad villain and looked stupid.

He. Is. Badass. Cool villain, appearance fits the madness, and his voice is awesome too. Everyone seems to agree.

Well, not everyone. I disliked him, and there's a blogger on Wordpress who felt strongly enough to make two lengthy posts about it.

Your asking this from the guy who turned the clouds into Cotten Candy and made it rain Chocolate. Discord has an inside out Pink Umbrella, because he is Discord.

Oh, and the Umbrella Meows when he opens it.

    149. Discord is so much like Q that there's no way it could be a coincidence that they're both played by the same actor.

I think one of the writers must be a Star Trek fan. They probably said "Hey, what if Q were to show up in Equestria?" and over the course of a few days the writers came up with Discord.
