That crazy battlemaster Luna!
I've turned Anon commenting off for the time being. My suggestion to all of you who use it primarily: create a Blogger.com account. That's the best way to sync with EQD at least. There are 6 other options in the comment dropdown menu to also use.
I might enable it again in the future, but for now tension is pretty high with the copyright thing.

ReplyDelete@Shaun Hegney
ReplyDeleteno, while the fandom did happen because of the shows quality it did indeed start on 4chan as many things on the internet do, Seth here is an old 4chan trip, as are quite a few prominant Bronies, EQD was birthed from 4chan in a way, specifically from the /co/ portion of community (before /co/ pony threads went into the insane 34 filled stuff they are now)
while there would probably still be a fandom without 4chan there is no way it would be anywhere near as big.
by the way the term Bronies, also 4chan, though not /b/ as lots seem to think its from /co/.
Hello, testing my firts non anon post?
ReplyDelete@boomerang503uhh...you kinda missed it by a few hours. Preventive measures have been taken (at least, they have here), and for the most part, I'd say that most of the fighting is over and done with.
ReplyDeleteAnd of course, I screw it up...
ReplyDelete@Mojo
ReplyDeletePlaying seniority, cool!
Guess what? I knew that. Guess when the huge mod breakout happened with bronies on 4chan? February! Who super popularized it on the busiest board on 4chan? Random! And who made the offshoot imageboard Ponychan that has had many members of the development team for MLP:FiM post on it? Yeah okay. Don't pull the importance card ever again (I don't even like ponychan, but the above is quite true regardless).
I just don't see how anon posting on a /blog/ is relevant to being able to post anonymously on an /image board/. We aren't 4chan. We shouldn't ever be, and I hope you aren't one of those people that thinks everything should be like /co/. If my first experience of ponies was seeing /co/ discuss them... I would have been very very scared.
Oh, and, for "letting trolls win," what does that matter? At the cost of letting trolls get their one fap a day they manage to get from trolling, we've disabled them from doing it remotely easily, and will vastly improve the quality of comments from hereon out.
I approve of this decision.
ReplyDeleteI support removal of anymous posting, it made me post stupid stuff that I would later regret. Now off to sleep I need wake up tomorrow to get ready for some serious lan parties!
ReplyDeleteFinally we can at least put names and avatars to the people were talking/arguing with thanks Seth
ReplyDelete@Altercation Don't underestimate the parasprites, there are devils among them that will go far to achieve there goal, yet this will definitively scare away the amateur-trolls
ReplyDeleteLet´s hope these trolls don´t go too far and hack Equestria Daily. 0.o
ReplyDeleteThis should have been done a long time ago.
ReplyDelete@Mojo
ReplyDeletewhat roots? the chan threads were full of tripcode posters anyway.
if you want anonymous posting, you still have the chans and boorus. all you have to do is register an acccount with some BS name or handle, and guess what? you're still anonymous AND conversations arwe easier to understand.
I don't MIND anonymous posting as a concept, but there are places for that, and really, a blog isn't one of the nest places for it.
Hrrm
ReplyDeleteObviously I'm in the minority here, but I liked anonymous posting. It encouraged people to post more honest and critical comments than they would if they were uniquely identifiable. Mandatory accounts can cause elitism and ridiculous celebrity-worship.
ReplyDeletey u make me sign in?
ReplyDeleteI dont know about this. I mean I can be just as hateful with a name than I can be without? Its my voice and I have a name so yay? what? I am perplexed at my own comment.
ReplyDeleteUm okay. thats a bit bad though :\ people would want to comment and they would ALL have to make an account just for a post. well, I hope you do put it back :)
ReplyDeleteNo problems here, especially since I was planning on submitting something soon and needed to come up with a name anyway.
ReplyDeleteFine by me.
ReplyDeleteWell it seems trolls got what they wanted. And you know what, i actually feel not having anon comments available helps this. So keep this what way. Greets.
ReplyDeleteWell now the trolls are going to make stupid troll names
ReplyDeleteJust made one now with muh gmail. So I guess that works.
ReplyDeleteI don't see why people get the idea this will stop 'first' posts. I see people with named accounts doing it all the time on here.
ReplyDelete@Kitteran
ReplyDeleteI know, right? I'm gone for a couple of hours, then something happens on YouTube (again) and when I get back everypony's gone crazy.
Never really noticed any trolling outside what I assume happened recently, but regardless, this should ensure a better signal/noise ratio.
@NinesTempest
ReplyDelete>many
yeah, like 2
/co/'s gotten that many and then some, if you include its offshoot IRC channels
>If my first experience of ponies was seeing /co/ discuss them... I would have been very very scared.
protip: this is the internet
First time posting as non anon. I approve of this course of action.
ReplyDeleteGood thing I started posting with an account, then!
ReplyDelete@datname
ReplyDeleteYou make a good point. But even as a person that tends to be ignored myself, I say leave it as is.
It makes replying to specific people and following in-comment discussion much easier. And I think these comments, either in agreement or disagreement, are much more civil than anonycomments.
@Mojo
ReplyDeletethe /co/ threads were full of tripcioders as well. it's one ofd the reason they got the 4chan backlash.
plus, what about the allspark forums?
and the fact that anonymous posting really isn't the cause of the growth itself?
or the fact that you can still post anonymously elsewhere?
Hmm
ReplyDeleteimlikingthisidea.scootaloo.pny
ReplyDelete@NinesTempest
ReplyDeletenever in a million years would I want EQD to be /co/, especially /co/ as it is now, hell I actually in all honesty don't post on the chans anymore, besides some Development threads on Ponychan (which outside of those I dislike) they've really spiraled downward since the season ended
just made an account to post, keep up the good work seth!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with this decision, i don't get why people are taking this out on Hasbro!
ReplyDeleteI guess I have a Google account or something, never bothered logging in before.
ReplyDelete@Calamity Dash
ReplyDeleteAt least if they make "stupid troll names" there's no guessing about their intentions. I'm more worried about the persistent names making it harder for weak-willed bronies to ignore the trolls.
@Moabite
ReplyDeletea man after my own heart...
heh I guess Im ruining my own reputation with all these rants, ah well.
@Moabite
ReplyDeleteI agree, we'll have another Roboshi here soon.
@DrahcirAloer
ReplyDeletego ahead. the point is most people aren't willing to bother. and even if you do, it's at least easier to keep up with conversations
@Onej6
ReplyDeleteOh yeah. Obviously the really persistent ones are going to bite the bullet, but your stock parasprite likely isn't going to bother at all.
Accounts are a good move, and if you don't like it, maybe it'll get switched back idk I don't make the decisions.
ReplyDeleteAs long as I still get my Equestria Daily, I don't mind.
ReplyDeleteIt was for the best. We can track posts by names, but this still doesn't prevent the possibility of multiple accounts.
ReplyDelete@pyritie
ReplyDeleteOnly because those were mostly vastly before ponychan, so they couldn't really go anywhere else. I think there was only 1-2 after it came to be.
I don't see how that's any kind of excuse when the only parts of the fandom that talk about the subject they talk about as much are them and fimchan. I've been around the block and I still get annoyed at /co/, only going by when there's a new episode airing. It's just impossible to have a sensible discussion there. The only time I did was with other fic writers.
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteHere's how I see it. If you care about something so much that you want somepony else to see how you feel, it shouldn't be that big of a deal to take literally 30 seconds or so to create an account.
ReplyDeleteFine, I made an account.
ReplyDelete@Pony Corp - Ren Yep
ReplyDeleteOk.
ReplyDeleteack, I have always liked anon posting over accounts
ReplyDeleteoh well
Jeez, you can almost taste the love and tolerance around here.
ReplyDeleteOh no, now I have to sign in to-
ReplyDeleteWait, it already did. Um... Muffins?
@pyritie
ReplyDeleteActually I was tipped off to the show by the furry community. I don't give credit to furry community for bronys either because the furry community didn't sit here and watch episodes , watch PMVs, listen to podcasts or read fan fiction, comment on EQD. Nope that was me. And its not because someone told me to its because the I checked the show out and it was great. Me being a furry didn't make a me a brony the show did.
@Edward
ReplyDeleteWhat's wrong with being connected to the best unicorn? :-P
Besides, I just checked and found out that one can change one's display name by changing it in the profile editor. I will probably remain Bugsydor for the time being, however. Maybe you could change your name to A. Rand. M. Unicorn?
Alright, sounds good to me. Makes things cleaner, makes trolling harder (or at least manageable), easier to reply to, and anyone with anything worth saying will take the 30 seconds needed to make an account.
ReplyDeleteArgh, my pic didn't change. :|
ReplyDelete@Brevity
ReplyDeleteGood show. I thought someone would try that.
Also, I love and hate your username simultaneously.
Testing...
ReplyDeleteWait nevermind...
ReplyDelete@Mojo
ReplyDeleteAs with me; I haven't posted on either chan in a while. I'll probably be on both a lot more often once season 2 starts up.
Honestly, I can /understand/ not being limited and having the choice to anon post. I can agree. But there's still far more annoying anon comments than poster comments by a ridiculous margin. I'd rather lose one super tiny freedom for such a significant gain.
inb4slipperslope
@datname
ReplyDeleteThis is sadly true.
Testing
ReplyDeleteThere it's done.... I think.
ReplyDeleteThis is the internet equivilant of firing teargas at a riot. Be careful.
ReplyDeleteHere's a great advice that will help a lot of people. DON'T USE INTERNET EXPLORER. I had so many problems I can't list them and I was so stupid to never think it was the fucking browser that was ruining all my shit up.
ReplyDeleteI still can't get used to using other browsers after using IE for so long. So I just use IE and whenever I need to comment, I just copy paste the URL into Google Chrome. All problems solved. At least for me.
Just a question, Seth. With people forced to make accounts, is it within your ability to ban them?
ReplyDeleteI think this is a good thing! Now I'll actually have a name to go with the commenter. I support this.
ReplyDeleteOh hell yes, THANK YOU SETH.
ReplyDelete@NinesTempest
ReplyDeleteflashinthepan has never visited ponychan and neither has ingram
we're in a haitus and everything's already been discussed, so it's not surprising it's hard to find somewhere to discuss the show nowadays
@Shaun Hegney
WELL GEE THAT EXPLAINS A LOT
I salute you, Prince Sethisto.
ReplyDeleteP.S. This blogger account literally took two minutes to set up just now.
Testing
ReplyDeleteYeah, this idea seems okay to put into motion.
KEEP ME ACCOUNTABLE FOR MY OWN ACTIONS, haha.
@Lesbian Carwash It took me five. :|
ReplyDeleteI already had a Google account before coming here, so I was prepared! B)
ReplyDeleteI also think we should keep Anon posts disabled permanently. For now, let's hunker down as the Second Pony War rages on 4chan.
I'm a bit disappointed to see it had to come to this, but it's not a surprise. After what happened earlier, I can't really argue against this, at least for the time.
ReplyDeleteI kind of liked the anon and name/url options, as I already had enough accounts and there was a time I wasn't sure about associating my e-mail address (which has my RL name pretty blatant in it) with ponies. Since I broke down and got a blogger account a while ago, this doesn't affect me, but I hope none of the new ponies feel annoyed by this.
Test Test
ReplyDeleteLooks like my blogger account is a go.
This is some crazy bull
ReplyDeleteI agree with Mojo, this is elitist as all hell
@Shaun Hegney
ReplyDelete>Also this fandom was born from MLP FiM and any outside influence from 4chan added to but didn't create the fandom. I'm sick of people giving creation of this fandom to some troll chan when the show did all the hard work. Bronys where born from MLP FiM. I bet most bronys on EQD haven't been on 4chan or simply weren't influenced from 4 chan.
Are you pretending to be naive? /co/ is the birthplace of the fandom. It was our anons and tripfags who made art, wrote stories, and uploaded episodes. Hell, without /co/, sites like Equestria Daily and Ponychan wouldn't even EXIST. Where do you think Seth got the idea and support for this blog?
/co/ created the fandom, and anyone who thinks otherwise came in only AFTER we built the momentum it needed to expand without us. Even Lauren Faust admitted to us playing a big hand in the upbringing.
http://fyre-flye.deviantart.com/journal/37488922/
A sensible precaution at this time.
ReplyDeleteI'm ok with this.
ReplyDeleteStill trying mine out, seeing if does my avatar shows up.
ReplyDeleteI do believe the word Elitist is being used out of context.
ReplyDeleteOkay, I guess its fine...cuz:
ReplyDeletePeople just put themselves as Anon. and you really dont know who they are. And I hated to check which Anon someone was replying to cuz everyone chose that. So... well, I guess it is good afterall ^.^ Thankz Seth :)
This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.
ReplyDeleteI used to always post as youtube|UsurperKingZant with my channel as website. I guess Now I can get the same effect with a blogger account. And I get a cool picture next to my name when I post. I'm a little bit of a shameless self promoter
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteLOL xD
Anons are ok on 4chan, but here, they are easily abused and can be confusing.
ReplyDeleteI like this decision.
@HeroInferno trying one last time.
ReplyDeleteFinally.
ReplyDelete@Cameron
ReplyDeleteI agree with everything you have contributed to this discussion. I'm fine with not being anonymous, because I never say anything on the internet that I would be ashamed to show anybody I know. Plus, this increases convenience in many other ways. It's easy to respond to other's comments, and you can tell exactly how many people you're dealing with.
@HeroInferno Ok, can anypony help me with my avatar problems? plz?
ReplyDeleteI wholly approve, thank you!
ReplyDeleteAlso shame on you for removing anon Seth. Can't say I'm too surprised since you were always a coward and a pushover when it comes to peer pressure.
ReplyDelete@Smallwaves
ReplyDelete... Peer pressure? In the shape of what, exactly?
Preferred anonymity to be honest, hopefully anon posting gets turned on again after things settle down.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Mojo people, disabling anon commenting makes the brony community look bad. I'm just saying this might cause a huge storm to fall on us...
ReplyDeleteAnyone who wants to defend this plan go right ahead I'm just sick and tired of users acting like anon posters are to blame for the storm from videos of the series being taken down when just as many users were doing the same thing, word of advice, practice what you preach.
want to post on EqD? then sign up folks! this is a private club now! YEAH! FRIENDSHIP! - my little bro
ReplyDelete>_> he got a point there.
@Smallwaves
ReplyDeleteAnd this is why I like this; I can identify this account and temper my response for the future accordingly.
@Smallwaves I do believe seth did this on his own volition for once,not based on Peer Pressure
ReplyDelete@Raynor
ReplyDeleteIt's not private if EVERYPONY can sign up.
@Smallwaves
ReplyDeleteA troll with a name? NO! IT CAN'T BE POSSIBLE!!1
Also, I have a small complaint with the monkeygrease thing whatever majig thingy. Any replies that appear in a different page (so if a comment is #199 and the reply is #203) then the preview window thing won't appear. Yknow, the mouseover...whatever.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I don't care if I'm anonymous or not. It's not like you're showing your real name and address and phone number and age and gender and blood type and zodiac sign and SSN and yo mama's face all over the damn place on a freakin banner high up in the air for everyone to see. It's just your username. A username you just made up, like 138493793, so you can go say something offensive and insensitive on EqD just so you'll get a useless account banned again. You can do that if you want, it's not like you lost your freedom to be a jackass. It's just harder to do and takes more time and effort.
Also, it's not like you're going to get banned for saying what you think is right. Freedom of speech. And I assume if enough people say your ban was unwarranted or something like that, you'll be let back in. Hell, if you've got something you strongly want to say, screw whether you're anonymous or not. This may be My Little Pony, but we're not little elementary school girls with a dictatorial teacher looming all over us. Just say whatever the hell you want to say. We need honest feedback to creations and honest reactions to events. That's how I work here.
No fun for anyone. -_-
ReplyDeleteWell. Fine then.
ReplyDelete@Vyuun
ReplyDeletei told him that. here his answer:
too lazy
>_>
I think every raging Anon just went to create a Blogger account, 'cause this is the largest comment turnout I've seen.
ReplyDeletePonies are not anon.
ReplyDeleteimokaywiththis.jpg :D
My name is now copyright. Every time you say, write, draw, think or signal about or of or mention it, you owe me a hug.
ReplyDeleteHee Hee, I think this will really help the comunity
ReplyDeleteAnd then all the bronies who frequent this site were happy.
ReplyDeleteBrohooves all around?
@datname
ReplyDeleteYou mean that people might have to *gasp* think before they post to avoid having people associate their name with useless, poorly spelled, and uninteresting drivel? :-P
Really, it wouldn't be that hard to find a new name for yourself once you decided that your reputation was too tarnished and you wanted to turn over a new leaf.
Note: Anonymous is a name too, and I had already been prejudiced against posts by Anonymous because of his tendency to troll, not read the subject matter of a blog post before posting his hatred of it, and generally behave rudely (courtesy of GIFT). What I am trying to say is, Anonymous is a name that already has a bad reputation associated with it in my book, even though only about 10% (number pulled from thin air) of his comments didn't meet Quality Assurance standards. Think of it as the Gray Fox from Elder Scrolls Oblivion, whose identity a thief would take to avoid the guard tracing a dark deed to the true culprit. You may come out unscathed, but anybody who sees the the cowl of the Gray Fox will call the guards on you immediately.
Then again, maybe this opinion makes me an elitist internet a-hole. That's for the rest of the world to decide.
Weighing both opinions, I come to the agreement that disabling Anon is a good thing. Most would try to use and abuse the system of hiding under anonymity because they are afraid of their words used against them or because they want to confuse people to believing that they are many, where it can actually be few, or even one.
ReplyDeleteFurther pointing how good this decision is, imagine this: What would happen if YouTube allowed anonymity?
@Luna
ReplyDeletehugs luna 9999999999999999 times!
YAY!
This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.
ReplyDeletecool lol
ReplyDelete@Luna Ok. *hugs*
ReplyDelete@Bugsydor
ReplyDelete>You mean that people might have to *gasp* think before they post to avoid having people associate their name with useless, poorly spelled, and uninteresting drivel? :-P
But I already post useless, porrly spelled and uninteresting drivel! and I use a name....like a boss?
I can see why Seth would want to disable Anon commenting.
ReplyDeletewell at least this stops the anon and stuff. I see nothing wrong with this at all. but yeah, good call.
ReplyDeleteThis is definitely for the best. Thank you Seth!
ReplyDeleteGreat choice Seth, brohoof!
ReplyDeleteInteresting. Wonder how this'll turn out. Doesn't seem so bad yet.
ReplyDeleteactually, i think this will help clear up confusion when people refer to other anons. @anon isn't very helpful when half the comments are anon.
ReplyDeleteI'm okay with this.
ReplyDeletetesting

Im new to using this.. blogger, so it will take some time getting from an anon with a name to this...
ReplyDeleteall to show im no troll. =)
Yay, no more random troll comments!
ReplyDeleteKeep anon comments disables, this is in best interest for community, no more troll attack or similar.
ReplyDeleteGreets.
@Raynor
ReplyDeleteHey I've claimed like 5 firsts before it was cool, I feel accomplished and I'll let the new bronies get theirs as well.
also
Last for realz!
@PsychroculHeavy
ReplyDeleteI wanna see this happen so bad! It will be HILARIOUS!!! on the other hand, buh... People are just as much anonymous right now anyway. You go to they're profile and there's absolutely nothing on them.
Well... I needed a reason to make an account, anyways... This shouldn't be too bad.
ReplyDeletethingsaregonnabeok.gif
ReplyDeleteWell...now I made an account and have nothing to say. I guess this was a good idea...maybe. Why?
ReplyDeleteI'm glad this made me get a Blogger account. I feel better about not posting as Anonymous all of the time.
ReplyDeleteI feel like that last episode of Doctor Who: "We are not foals. We are not foals..."
ReplyDeleteWe've all been anonymous at one point or another. Hell, bronydom got started where anons are kings. Sure it'll weed out parasprites, but you gotta wonder about the other, genuine anon posters, however many of those they are.
ReplyDeleteObviously I'm not affected, but it's a thought nonetheless.
@Mike
ReplyDeleteWell, now that you have a name we can decide to reject whatever you say out of hand if you get a reputation as a troll, or we could pay more attention to you if you get a reputation for leaving well thought out and/or insightful comments.
THE GOOD:
ReplyDelete-People are less likely to first
-Less trolls
-Easier to reply
THE BAD:
-Not as easy to comment
-Gets rid of anonymity, one of the fandom's building blocks
-Less commentators
I'm still in favor of anon comments, but i can see the good
@Wiisnake
ReplyDeleteanother man after my heart
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDelete@Dubs Rewatcher
ReplyDeleteI still don't get how "anonymity" is one of the fandom's "building blocks". MLP has never been a "secret but fun" thing. You could say that the MLP fandom as we know it was forged out of /b/ and /co/, but that's an entirely different argument from anonymity.
I don't think this fandom has ever been about being anonymous, and it's certainly not the foundation on which the fandom was born on. If 4chan forced people to identify themselves by some means, I'm more than willing to a hedge a bet that it would have done absolutely nothing to affect the MLP fandom as we understand it today.
@Muffinsforever
ReplyDeletewe meet again, good sir! you commented on my fic on FF.net a few times. :)
@Sun Ray
ReplyDeleteyeahhhh.. NO. NEVER. Im fine with the people I meet at a meetup or whatever knowing my name, or my friends in the fandom but not any random guy on EQD.
@Night Star
ReplyDeleteMY LITTLE PONY IS FOR LITTLE GUURRRLLLZZZZ!!!!!1!111 BRONIES ARE WIIIMMMPPSSS!!!! SETH SUUUCCCKKKSS!!!!! FAT PEOPL RUIN EVERYTHING!!! FIRST/SECOND/THIRD/FOURTH/FIFTH/LAST(not actually last)!!!! MY HOUSE IS ON FIRE AND MY FAMILY R DYING!!! FURRIES AR GGAAAAYYYY!!! DUBSTEP SUX!!!
Probably for the best.
ReplyDeleteConfound these ponies, they make me log in!
I don't really see why this was necessary, but oh well, it's not like making blogger account takes away one's anonymity. If you're paranoid like me you probably have lots of spare fake e-mails that can be used to register anyway. So there's nothing wrong with having to sign in to post.
ReplyDeleteLet's see how this looks.
ReplyDelete@DeRockProject True, but with this decision, it would take iron will or pure hatred for the fandom to try to attack the site.
ReplyDeleteOne would not only have to create many accounts, but one would also have to sign in, then sign out, then sign in, then sign out onto every account.
This delay trolling and would advice people which people are genuine fans of the show/ community and who are the trolls to avoid.
Wow, got that bad, I generally stop by to read the news and maybe a quick comment.
ReplyDeleteAlso, testing.
>Disable anonymous commenters
ReplyDelete>Gets 350 comments
I'd say anonymous commenting isn't necessary, since plenty of people still commented after the feature was disabled.

What exactly was going wrong with anon commenting anyway?
ReplyDelete@Smallwaves
ReplyDeleteTaking action is not a form of cowardice, and you'll need to be a bit more specific on what the "peer pressure" may be.
I'm indifferent to this. Anon posting made it somewhat harder to respond to posts, so I guess that's a plus.
ReplyDeleteI prefer trolling with a name anyways, it's more satisfying to have someone direct their rage at one target than at the anon hordes. :D
*Cheer*
ReplyDelete*Stomp hooves*
Huh, no anonymous commenting. Suddenly, several hundred new accounts are made!
ReplyDeleteMostly trying.
ReplyDeletewhatever floats your boat i guess...
ReplyDeleteThis could mean less first calls.
ReplyDeleteDone, and done. Testing to see if workings. Know now that I am a huge Lyra nut.
ReplyDelete@Octavia I made an account because I used to comment under anon.
ReplyDeleteThough most of my comments were generous and will still continue to want to comment with generosity. If it means that I have to create a account that I may not use other than to comment here on EqD, then so be it.
I guess most of the new accounts are the same... I guess.
Love and tolerance, indeed! Let's begin to banish whatever we don't like.
ReplyDeleteThis community seems more and more like every other (bad) internet community out there: Elitism, circlejerk and, surprisingly, a hive-like mentality: don't disagree and you can participate.
This fandom has really gone down the shitter the last couple of months.
@DeRockProject
ReplyDelete...You raise some valid points.
@wackyteen
ReplyDeleteWe really did need a numbered Anon system anyways.
@Titanium White
ReplyDeleteOnce again, another account identified.
:P
@Muffinsforever
ReplyDeleteSo I don't agree and thus is labeled a troll? Thanks for proving my point.
Testing.
ReplyDeleteI'm ok with no anons.
Thank you, Seth. It's annoying when someone with something bad to say uses Anon to do it. If they really care they'll man up and use a real account
ReplyDelete@Titanium White
ReplyDeleteNo one was banished all they have to do is take a few minutes to make an account.
@Mojo
ReplyDeleteWould you prefer EQD to require mod approval before posts are published?
When insult spam gets as thick as it was getting, mods generally only have a few options at their disposal because their first and foremost concern is making the page presentable and a page spammed to high hell with personal insults isn't very presentable. Either restrict posting to accounts or mod approve everything. I know what the latter does to active discussion, it flat out kills it by introducing a lengthy delay before posts are actually seen.
As for 'letting them win', aren't they winning hard enough by derailing discussion into flame wars? Damage control, my friend.
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDelete@PsychroculHeavy
ReplyDeleteI know I know, disabling anonymous was a win-win action. We get less trolls, and trolls still get to scream at us if they want to.
Yet, on the more...what this action symbolizes, what do you think people will THINK about this. In reality it's not a big deal, but MAYBE some may take offense to this? Na, that would be retarded. Ya'd be retarded to be all SETH BAN ANONS-Y?! I R OFFEN'D NAOZ. Whatever, either way I'm full supportive on this bitch.
Although it's not like all trolls don't ALREADY have an account they used for something else.
@Titanium White
ReplyDeleteSigh. I meant that in a way that I now know how to respond to you in the future.
I didn't mean it so negatively yeesh.
@Bugsydor
ReplyDeleteSTOP RIGHT THERE, CRIMINAL SCUM!!
You've got me imagining Imperial guards battering down trolls' front doors all over the world now.
I feel all warm and gooey inside.
alright, Princess Luna!
ReplyDelete/me just got his team luna TShirt! =D
/me wears it with pride for his princess!
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteAnother thing, how about removing comments all together? The amount of comments that's worth the time is so small anyway, that the loss is negligible at best. And we don't have to deal with Luna/Trixie/whatever-roleplaying.
ReplyDeleteHoo wee, that's whole a lot easier
ReplyDelete@Titanium White
ReplyDeletePeople seem to be throwing the word "elitist" around without understanding what it means.
I'd like to reiterate that seth said that is was for the time being until this whole Youtube dealy blows over. That could be 24hrs or a couple of days. Either way he'll keep us posted on if/when he'll re-instate the anon commenting.
ReplyDelete@ Titanium I hear what you are saying however this was just a means of preventing things from progressing worse. All the time I've been here I've seen trolls take comfort in using anonymous when a crapstorm is going on. And quite frankly not everyone can be asked to ignore them and the situation gets worse. Like others have said think of this as damage control. Honestly I think the fandom will get a sort of "reset" when season 2 rolls around. There isn't much to talk about besides fanfics and other community projects. The fandom is anxious for some new pony content. I can wait but I'm not sure how others will hold out.
This hasn't effected me in any way.
ReplyDeleteForesaw this ever since I joined the herd from week 2. That and posting as an anonymous just seems a bit too.... eh, incognitos. Don't get me wrong I am shy on posting but why would I alias my comments? C'mon, this is ponies. I post with dignity. There's nothing to be ashamed of in here.
Anyways, there's my quirky comment for the day. Good luck in finding me again. Mehehe.
@Titanium White Removing comments altogether defeats the purpose of having a blog
ReplyDelete@Titanium White What I like to see (in my opinion) is as close to accurate counts of a person's opinion as much as possible.
ReplyDeleteAnonymity makes that near impossible, whereas making people have usernames makes it almost plausible.
Makes it easier to respond to the person with conflicting comments or to not to even respond towards that person at all. Yes, there will still be people that will still have disagreements towards this or other things that that ranges from the petty to significant, but it will be under a part where one can take count as to how many people actually gives a damn about the community to even take a few seconds to sign up without any wait.

NEMESIS
(also it appears that someone is using Anonymous as their handle. ANOTHER NEMESIS)
I, for one, did not come from an anonboard, though the chain may have started there. I'm just sad I cant argue with myself now :(
I only support this to stem the trolling/samefagging of late. Otherwise I say allow Anons again ASAP. The uninhibited behavior allowed with anonymity helped keep this place from getting soft, or softer than it already inherently is.
ReplyDelete(This is coming from someone who always namefagged on EqD anyway.)
@Titanium White
Calm down there, sonny. I'm not opposed harsh criticism of this place, but the trolls either found a semi-cogent script kiddie or a legion of samefags right before the anon-ban, and EqD is equipped to deal with neither from the looks of things. This policy's a necessary evil for the time being.
Now behold as I rise from lurking and anon commenting...
ReplyDeleteI am not sure if blocking anon posting is a good thing though, the firsts are not gonna stop and it's not like every anon was a troll, I actually didn't notice the trolling until this youtube block thing. (And honestly, we bronies have been in worse shitstorms than that)
Ah, well let's the direction this is taking, but for the record, i don't like the feeling of this.
Frankly I think the ones complaining must of been trolling or being jerks cause all that elitist crap they are spewing is just plan hog wash.
ReplyDelete@MaLeDiCeNT
ReplyDeleteNot that I'm the most objective voice, but I'm okay with this.
ReplyDelete@Titanium White
ReplyDeleteI guess I don't understand your reasoning. Anonymous comments are off to prevent trolling, flaming or spam. How is that bad? We already had a first comment on a new fan fiction today that was flat out trolling.
I know we aren't a site for young kids. But that doesn't mean we need to allowing trolling. Or tolerate being treated like crap either. People come here for fun. Not to be hated on.
All I see us doing is maintaining the fandoms identity and keep less savory ideals from being associated with us.
How is us disallowing anonymous log ins (which no but the chans boards allow) causing us to become a hive mind? Or for that matter killing the quality of this fandom?
@Titanium White
ReplyDeleteThere's a difference between disagreeing and being a trolling asshole.
Just saying.
All this did was make me make an account. I already write "Appletank" in my replies anyways.
ReplyDeleteI just got an account in reaction to this, like so many others. Granted, I actually typed in this name before, so... yeah. Not much difference. I'd say keep anons off for a while, but not forever. Give the trollspasm time to fade. I understand how some people might view this as wrong or elitist, but it's for the best at the moment and I'm fairly apathetic on the whole issue anyway.
ReplyDelete400 plus comments, is this a first on EqD now? Never yet seen a topic get this many comments.
ReplyDelete@Shaun Hegney
ReplyDeleteYou forgot to ask him what he meant by "elitism".
@Shaun Hegney The Hive mind is more or less how the fandom has reacted to certain things ie the Youtube drama Llama and the Red Eye on Fox piece
