Welcome to the first podcast I think any of us have ever produced. Inside, we answer your questions (sometimes) and go off on tangents and disagree with each other a lot. We do much more of the latter, actually. Be dazzled by how off-topic we get! Be amazed at... the sound quality! Yeah, I'm working on it. Phoe's mic was unfortunately very quiet, so I normalized the audio as best I could. The result is you'll actually be able to hear her, but occasionally it makes the background noise become louder when no one is speaking. That will be fixed next time.
Seth does the introductions (voice crack included) and is therefore the first to speak, followed by me with the first question, and then Phoe telling me I'm a jerk. Just in case you were confused about who was who.

ReplyDeleteI think they pointed out the reason why they don't like AJ. Even though she is one of the BEST ponies ever she has no episodes dedicated to her that shows her good side. Which is why she is boring because they didn't show what separates her from other ponies in terms of the show.

I think the wingboner comic might have been (subconsciously?) inspired by Buzz Lightyear at the end of Toy Story 2. Jessie goes around the hot wheels loop and his wings pop out. Of course they could have just been referencing something even earlier that I don't know about.

How could anybody dislike Applejack? I love her warmth and her honest, straightforward approach to life. Wonderful voice too.
Best pony, however, is Rarity, hooves down. She's artistic, beautiful, and vain - but with a generous heart. Irresistible.
I too hate the ep Feeling Pinkie Keen. Making Twilight a victim like that WAS NOT FUNNY. Dropping anvils on a villain like Wile E. Coyote is funny, but doing the same to a good guy like Twilight is just stupid. The moral was even stupider. I'll never watch that ep again.

ReplyDeleteEven though she only has one episode dedicated to her, Applejack's character still shines throughout the series, and it allows us to see even more of her personality.
There is so much to go on for Applejack to be the best pony. The only reason she isn't is because Rainbow Dash exists.
Want more. Do something about Phoe's audio if you can though, she was very hard to hear and that's a shame cause she does have a lot of interesting things to say.
ReplyDeleteI really hate when people bring up the concept of a show jumping the shark so early. The Simpsons didn't reach its peak until seasons 5-9, and even then there were great episodes through to seasons 12 and 13. Realistically, MLPFIM could have a good 4-7 seasons before it even arguably going downhill.
ReplyDeleteNice enough job for a rushed podcast, listened all the way through no problems and actually wished it would have gone on a least to finish that last question about what you guys do outside of ponies.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely please do this more often, you three all seem to have some very interesting differences of opinion on things and its neat to hear you go back and fort about it and also just to hear all your views on pony related matters in general.
Next time just make sure you prep a little better as for what order questions will be answered in by whom, and it should flow much smoother. Also, budget yourself at least 20 minutes (15 is too short I think) or hell even 30 minutes like you did for the previous ones where you just answered by typing back.
I kind of dislike Cereal's pessimism.

ReplyDeleteI think the main problem with Applejack isn't so much she only has one dedicated episode, it's that the dedicated episode she does have happened so early in the series and she ends up being eclipsed by all the following development episodes for the other characters that come later. Had she been given another more dedicated episode, towards the end of season 1 I don't think she would be coming in last place for a lot of people.
Oh. And if you guys are still reading comments this deep into the discussion, I happily listened to the whole thing and would gladly enjoy another.

I liked their "format in the form of a lack of format most of the time". It made it entertaining, but if you tuned out for a minute because you were distracted, it wasn't the end of the world.
Hell, I remember in one episode they intentionally played into this and starting shouting random names, in the hopes of messing with people with that name.

Sacrifice great story for comedy that barely lingers? grow a funny bone =( open your MINDS and get in character with the ponies! reading the scenes in their voices makes it 20% cooler!
BoTS is NOT graphic and it's 2011 people get over the same sex thing already and stop assuming shipping means crazy clop fiction descriptions that revolves around two ponies making out! because this story is one of the best series added to EqD in some time, with now say Past Sin's another Unique take on the whole Filly Nightmare Moon called Nyx.
That Past Sin's easily gets over 1k comments but some how Ballad of Twilight Sparkle goes by seemingly ignored by the masses feels pretty unfair, it got the SEAL OF EXCELLENCE before any other fic for a reason you know! Go check it out!
I'll say I steered clear a LOT of anything that had Shipping on it, it's only used which for what I can tell has too broad a use on this site, I've learned that least on this site shipping stories isn't just ponies making out and quite a few are far more innocent and tender then what you'd expect from what you should avoid 'clop-fiction'.
Anyways BALLAD OF TWILIGHT SPARKLE ROCKS! and has been my favorite story thus far! But recently it's been as painful waiting for a new chapter as it is for Season 2 of FiM! ><

ReplyDeleteThat was highly enjoyable. One thing though, Applejack's lack of a definitive episode means that she could have an awesome Season 2. To a lesser extent, the same could be said of Twilight (Winter Wrap Up maybe qualifies).

Double bass or cello, Octavia's still got a treble cleft as a cutie mark which, as a bass guitarist, irritates me ever so slightly. I guess the treble cleft is a lot cooler than the boring old 'line with two dots' bass cleft.

ReplyDeleteI'm not sure if I like this or not. It was great to hear you ponies, but I'm trying to resist the urge to challenge all your opinions on episodes and characters and such. I think Cereal and Phoe made some great points, but when did ponies get this complicated? I've never really analyzed or disliked characters and episodes as much as it sounds Cereal has, I don't take it quite that seriously. I apparently like Pinkie Pie's comic relief a lot more than some ponies. There were a few parts of the podcast that made me feel my ponies were being over-analyzed. I'm not ready to consider it ending yet!!!
ReplyDeleteThen again, I came in WAY late to this, the season was over before I even knew FiM existed, I don't go on /co/, and I have no experience with fan fiction at all, so I'll respect your opinions. I tend to avoid fanfics with a passion, but the Elements of Awesome has me tempted to give them a try. Also, it's nice to hear from Phoe again.
tl;dr I don't agree with your episode picks, but I'd listen again.

Nice podcast considering it was your first attempt.
I do hope you folks make this a regular thing. Like, collecting questions and interesting topics and making a longer (like, 30-60 mins) podcast every 3-4 weeks.
Yes we do have some pony-podcasts out there already, but this would be more EqD-related :)
