The lack of facial expressions is disturbing. It's more like someone just took random stock art and background art and put a story in rather than being an actual comic.

Disappointing. The charm of MLP:FiM derives from the flexibility of its characters, both in a literal and metaphorical sense. They can't be carbon-copied like Hasbro's prior pony iterations, because doing so ruins the "soul" of the show.
In any case, I appreciate the hard work and dedication of the original translator. Wouldn't have known this existed otherwise!

I wonder why Applejack had no hat. Was it too hard for the, sorry to say, hack artist too draw or was it due to there not being many stereotypical American cowboys in Germany so her character doesn't work as well there.

Haha, I don't get Hasbro's approach at all. It's one of the largest toy corporations in the world, so maybe the best way to roll out a new title is to just release random products in different locations with seemingly no game plan at all and almost no publicity.
Also, they should give the Lyra Celestia heartbreak cartoon artist a comic, s/he got the characters down way better.
Magazines with these sort of stories seem to be popular in Europe. Here in Poland we also get 20 or so page long magazine with adverts, coloring pages, kindergarten style games and one or two comic stories with bad plot and badly drawn ponies.

For a moment I thought the translator was having a laugh at us, because those are clearly hash cookies. But nope, I can say it too. My german ain't perfect but that translation is 100% exact. I bet Hasbro got away with a subtle stealthy joke about hash cookies, in Germany!

Well to be fair, there are two expressions, but no this is certainly not very high quality. I doubt the people behind it were given much to work with though.
On the other hand, we have Pinkie Pie drugging people, and personally, I think the ridiculousness of that plot point makes up for the lack of quality elsewhere.

Again: Transformers fan. We TF fans are used to this. Twenty models of the same toy (and at least seven different versions of the live-action 2007 movie), and you have to go thousands of miles to get them all. It's like Pokemon, but costs more money.

Several things are very out of character for them. "Arial acrobats like me and Fluttershy"
Also, there's almost no change in expression.
And the overall story doesn't seem to go anywhere

this was probably done by a team separate from the guys who work on the actual show, and probably don't know any more than a basic character description and the story of the comic itself.

Yeah, this is likely. I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't have much more to work with than the generic clip-art pictures of the cast that are on most merchandise.

Add my voice to the choir saddened by the low quality of the production of the comic, while praising the translator (it couldn't have been easy having to work with such terrible stuff) and giggling at the "enchanted" cookies.
In a certain alternate universe, this is top-quality pony fanfiction.
I find it funny how "magic flower powder" even if it isn't supposed to be a reference to any drug in particular, still is, bu its own description, a drug. so even if it ISN'T hash, it's still drugs in the cookie used to alter the mind.

Anyway, this comic reads like the authors felt that they needed to include all the WORST tropes of little girl shows from the previous incarnations of MLP: Lack of conflict, biggest crisis is something trivial, indistinguishable personalities, lack of emoting from the Mane cast...
And oh yeah, Applejack's missing her hat for no good reason.

I'd think they'd want it taken down out of shear embarrassment. Seriously, the first page was bad enough with ponies with faces straight out of a clopfic. I could not have thought it could go down from there.

There's no doubt in my mind that Hasbro did not expect anyone older then 5 to get their hands on that magazine T_T; So painfully bad.
I know the artwork is rather bad all around, but something about Twilight and Rarity both stick out to me. I can't place my finger on it, but they both seem... "off" for some reason. The eyes maybe?

While the traslation was great, and it gave us the existence of this comic (which I assume most of us didn't know), it wasn't really that good... actually, it reminded me of the earlier generations.

It was awkward to read all the five pages from start to finish: there's lack of distinct expressions (it's what makes the show exceptional), trivial plot, and they're out of character.
This comic needs to be about 20% cooler.

That was quite literal. It was not "impress" in any way shape or form. Besides which, Fluttershy repeats Pinkie's description almost word-for-word on page four, so how could it have been anything else? :)
"Kooky Cookies" - originally Kicher-Kekse, glossed as "Giggle cookies", I preferred to go with the alliteration you see in the comic.
Sorry I'm nit-picky. Translation theory is interesting, and you deserve to know the decisions made! (Even if the comic was downright awful.)

Oh, don't get me wrong, you did an awesome job, and I realized it was literal once I got to the end! I just typed my thought process while going through the pages in my post, I wasn't trying to critique. When I first read that on page 3, I didn't think there was any way in HELL that they would actually have Pinkie drugging the cookies. Obviously, my assumption was wrong!

I kinda like the visual style to be honest. It doesn't have to be comic-dynamic to look "good". The lack of facial expressions is probably more down to the inanity of the story than the art itself.
It reminds me of older childrens comics, yet almost perfectly renders the flash style of the show in that same way. I'm impressed.
These comics are so bad they are absolutely amazing. I haven't laughed so hard in quite a while.
I'm German - I'd kind of like to see the originals actually to fully appreciate the sheer badness. I have a feeling the english translation only serves to dilute it to my eyes (could also be that it's because the translations were done by someone non-terrible).
Are these in order of publication? I like to think what went down was someone at the higher-ups accidentally caught a glimpse at "Secret Mission" and its horrific chair-sitting, soccer-playing frankenponies and personally went down to the slave pens: "PONIES DO NOT HAVE HAND AND FEET, ALSO THE ORANGE ONE HAS A GODDAMN HAT! ONE MORE LIKE THIS AND WE WILL FEED YOU YOUR SCHWANZSTUCKERS" (not actually German, by the way) I only wish they had also added "Also, the ponies are supposed to be awesome now" and let their oppressed folk watch the cartoon, but that would have actually brought some joy into their sad oppressed lives, and that wouldn't do for a soulless corporation of evil.
Also: Hasbro Germany, why does your website still only have the terrible ponies? You suck.

Whatever asshole at Hasbro, who thought it would be a good idea to put their stamp of approval on this piece of shit, needs to be fired!
I hope if there's official U.S. comics in the future, the artist better draw somepony OTHER than the Mane 6! Really don't mind if it's side characters or just background filler, it's better than having Ponyville almost a ghost town.
