We haven't had an actual discussion post in a while, and I'm going to give fics a break for a bit (Until late tomorrow morning at least)
So what episode did you start with? According to that poll from a while back the majority of bronies actually started watching in March, so only a fraction of us were exposed to it initially.
What was your initial reaction?

Interest was actually garnered a bit by bit. It was the building frequency of pony submissions to Halolz.com where I found out there was a new pony show at all. the 'Ponycraft2' video was the first were I took interest. Then I found 'Night of Pony' on Youtube and just thought at the time, 'What the heck is going on". Then I visited the 'Friendship is Magic' page on TVtropes.com and found out about the building male fanship. At that point, little less than a week ago, I realized I was going to have to experience this on my own. Found episode 1, saw Fluttershy's introduction, ended up watching all 21 episodes in less than a week. I spend my days hiding the fact that I have become a fan of this show from my roommates. They would never understand.

ReplyDeleteWhen Discovery Kids changed to the Hub I decided to give all the cartoons on it a chance. MLP was the one I was looking forward to least. I hated the one from the 80's but I wanted to give the crap a look so I could make fun of it properly. I watched the first episode the day it came out and now I have every ep saved to my DVR as well as my Youtube account. I've stopped reading Harry Potter and playing WoW so I can watch more ponies, and I want to buy the merchandise so bad I can taste it. Help me...
ReplyDeletesaw a parody the starcraft 2 voice over one. I thought the show looked interesting and i went to see it on youtube. liked the first episode how it interesting intro to get your attention and started watching it since.
ReplyDeleteEpisode 1: Why the hell am I watching this?
ReplyDeleteEpisode 2: Really, why am I watching this?
Episode 3: Wow, 3 episodes in one day,
Episode 4: I understand now...
Episode 1&2: Rewatching for entertainment.
Episode 5: I like this.
Episode 6:...Why am I watching this at 4 in the morning? Because I've lost control of my life...
The first episode, around the time the 2nd one came out.
ReplyDeleteI started in March at the pilot episodes.
ReplyDeleteWent through a few forums and found some avatars and memes with ponies on them i thought they looked pretty cool so i started to google and just typed My little pony just randomly and pretty much one thing led into another and i watched episode 1 and pretty much turned me into a brony which then turn half my family into bronies >.>
ReplyDeleteI was a man for 25 years. When I was young I watched the A-Team and I said to dad, "I want to be on the A-Team daddy."
ReplyDeleteDad said "No! You will BE 20% COOLER"
There was a time when I believed him. Then as I got older I stopped. But now in the in the basement below my parents house I knew there were ponies.
"This is Joson" the radio crackered. "You must fight the ponies!"
"HE GOING TO IGNORE US" said the ponies
"I will friendship him" said the rainbow pony as she fired rainbows. I flexed at her and tried to kill her. But then the ceiling fell and they were trapped and not able to friendship.
"No! I must kill the ponies" I shouted
The radio said "No, anon. You are the pony"
And then I was a brony
this story may be slightly exaggerated for dramatic effect
First episode I watched was Bridle Gossip (episode 9).
ReplyDeleteI think Twilight's realistic and level-headed view on the situation turned me away from thinking that this was just a plain girly-girl show. Also Pinkie's enchantress song as sung by FlutterGuy. That was epic.
Also, they never did explain why the hell Zecora was digging at the ground. Impatient nervous response maybe?
After that episode it was pretty much the typical cliche story with me. Watched first two episodes, wanted to watch more, and became a total addict. I love shows that write the characters as characters before they write them as females, and that's pretty much what they did here. They also made the show to entertain and teach (a little), not just to make it as girly as all hell.
Even if it wasn't as good as it is right now, I'd still be watching every episode that involved FlutterShy, because damnit; she's too effing adorable.
Introduced around October when people were posting pony-memes without knowing anything about ponies.
ReplyDeleteFinally, someone came forward and said it was the new series. Flash forward a few weeks, someone drops a meme made from Dash's segment of 'Winter Wrap-up', long before it even aired, and said it was the new series. A few days later, someone else dropped a link to the current episode, around episode five. Watched that or Apple Buck first. Then I hunted down episode one and watched every one back to whatever was current.
I started in January, actually. I was just browsing KYM when, all of a sudden, there was a picture of a cartoon pony next to the word "Trending". Naturally, I investigated. I read the entry, read the comments, and checked out some of the images posted. Curiosity got the best of me, and I looked it up on Youtube.
ReplyDeleteAt that point, I knew I'd found something awesome. I didn't agonize over liking it, so much as other people finding out this show was so amazing. Even THAT'S not a problem anymore. I've converted about a half-dozen or so bronies, and it's spreading fast.
Caught the pilot the day after it aired thanks to posts on /co/. I watched the original show as a kid, and though many malign the first two episodes of FiM, compared to the old show it was practically Hemingway. Although the plot may have been a bit predictable, I was smitten by the characterizations, better dialog, and snappier humor, and I've been a fan ever since.
ReplyDelete@Sandman no not like crack more like every ingredient and tools to make crack, that makes it even worse doesn't it? XD
ReplyDeleteI saw the pilot first, then continued watching through episode in one night. I tried introducing a friend with episode 4, but he said that the pilot made everything make much more sense, and he wished I'd shown him that first
ReplyDeleteI started with episode one and watched them in order.
ReplyDeletewell... I began sort-of laughing at it(making fun of) by watching youtube poops of it... then I'm like, wait... Now I'm more curious... so I watched the real deal of EP: "1". I than was curious what happened next, so I started watching more episodes (in order, unless I accidentally skipped one (like fall weather friends that I watched on monday) and I felt bad for it later in brony-hood) and then Dash shot me with her rainbow cannon and I became a BFL (Brony For Life!)!!!
ReplyDeleteP.S. (I'm sure you can tell I like these "()")()()()()()(hehehe)
I watched the episodes consecutively, starting with the pilot. At that time, Call of the Cutie was the most recent.
ReplyDeleteI of course saw Fall Weather Friends the day it came out ^_^
I started with Applebuck Season on a recommendation from a forum goer. I loved the art and most of the cast got some spotlight so I got a good feel for how things went. I then started watching everything from the beginning and have loved most of the episodes.

ReplyDeleteFirst episode I saw was the First Episode of the series (soon followed by the Second). Saw it for the first time in mid-January, I would say.
ReplyDeleteMy initial thoughts ? Don't quite remember, but surely something close to : ''Conflicts, Powers, Adventure party (with 6 members ;) ) going against a greater Evil ? Oooohh, looks promising ! (I really like adventure stuffs)''...
Plus the fact that the characters were likable *RIGHT FROM THE START*... and not after the 10-30th episodes like they sometimes do in other series. (Great voices, characters and animation too).
The first one I watched was Winter Wrap Up. I have a weakness fpr everything cute.
ReplyDeleteI was very stubborn about MLP FiM. I first heard about it in October but I dismissed it before I even saw a picture. In February a friend who frequently visits 4chan raved about it, so I watched the Hub and I saw Art of the Dress. I tried to remain skeptical for a long time "Oh it'll just be like My Little Pony Tales. Interesting but too childish to grab me." But by the end, "HOLY SHIT THIS IS AWESOME!! and I was a brony for life every since.
ReplyDeleteomo(o my ostrich, duh)my first episode was griffon the brush off. i was watching it as a joke because i was home sick, and i thought, "this is really good" i went so far as to watch the first episode on demand, and my favorite character was immediately NIGHTMARE MOON!!!! she is so awesome. after just 2 episodes, i was hooked for life
ReplyDeleteepisode 1 of course
ReplyDelete>Saw ponies a lot on 4chan.
ReplyDelete>Wondered what that was all about.
>Saw MLP:FiM one day while skipping through the channels on the Hub
>decided to stop and watch it
>"Fall Weather Friends"
>Came to the realization this was neither gay nor girly, but funny and cute
>watched a bunch of episodes on Youtube
>Saw "Suited For Success"
>Brony for life
I found out about it through 4chan.
ReplyDeleteI started with the fist episode, because I don't believe in starting a series anywhere but the beginning.
I didn't watch the second one right away because i knew that if I did, there would be no turning back. Eventually I gave in, and I've been a brony ever since.
Episode 1 for me and so on.
ReplyDeleteI looked at "Know your Meme" and said "LOL, what a babies" (Even if I play Neopets), I LOL'd at the fact that grow-ups watched this, but I decided to gave it a try.
And so, hooked up like everybody here. I even want to name my Neopet Fluttershy... Yes, I'm a brony.
Oh, and it was just two days ago...
Oh, I forgot to add in my last post, what really sealed the deal to me was Pinkie Pie singing "Giggle at the Ghostly". Then this was serious business.
ReplyDelete"Boast Busters" for me. Reaction? what a bitch lol
ReplyDeleteMy first was the pilot, and i loved it from the start. And watched all the rest in 3 days (I forced myself to go slow...it was hard D:). The days after i first watched it were so hard, I thought it must be what being addicted to herroin or cocain was like (it scares me a bit =/ ). I'll never go back =3

What is this faggotry?
Look up first episode so I can laugh at other lack of masculinity
Watch first episode
Grow a third ball because of how masculine I am
Addicted to Poni
Started with the Pilots after seeing the Starcraft II Pony video and though that the animation and drawing style reminded me of the better days of children's shows.
ReplyDeleteI was a bit uncertain with the first two episodes only liking Twilight, Pinkie, and Fluttershy from the start and the constant laughs the show gave me.
After the 3rd episode with the Gala tickets, I lost all uncertainty and knew i'd love this series. A few days later and I watched the rest 4-20 within two days which is impressive because it normally takes me like 4-5 days for anime series with the same amount of episodes.
Sadly, I was now addicted but had to deal with Pony withdrawl since the April foals week was ponyless.
"Swarm of the Century" on Christmas day. After watching a ton of Jim Henson specials, I left my TV to eat and then walked back into my room after breakfast to be welcomed by this. I spent so much time trying to find my remote that I practically took in the whole episode only to realize by the time that it ended, I kind of enjoyed it. A little while later I saw a promo for it where Lauren Faust discussed her passion for the project and after reading the overall positive reception all around the net, I decided to give it a shot from episode 1. So glad that I did.
ReplyDeleteThe first time I met ponies were a gif on /flash with the entire Winter Wrap up song.
ReplyDelete"What the hell is this? Pfff...girly...kinda catchy though...are those...ponies? They don't look like My little pony. Hmmm."
*checks youtube*
*watches entire Winter Wrap Up episode (the latest at that time)*
*watches 3 more episodes that day*
Brony for life!!!
Episode 1.
ReplyDeleteBut I've been a pony fan all my life, so when I looked up the Hub (when Discovery kids was changing over to it) I saw Fraggle Rock was going to be on it, which excited me and wanted to see what else it would be airing.
I saw new My Little Pony series and that was it.
First time I saw it was in December, the Sunday after Bridle Gossip had aired. I had seen a few reaction images of Pinkie Pie in a furry thread, asked where it was from, they told me, I ended up watching Bridle Gossip, I chilled and watched it until mid-January, and then threads on /b/ started popping up. In the first two weeks of February, I started posting as Chrysanthemum Blossom.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm an "older brony" (joining-date-wise, not age-wise).
I was one of the viewers on the launch day of the Hub, 10.10.10.
ReplyDeletefirst episode, don't remember how many episodes there were at the time.
ReplyDeleteFirst episode was Bridle Gossip, watched it with my older sister a week or two ago after seeing a bunch of pony stuff on Something Awful and a few other places. Wasn't until last weekend that I started to watch the rest, and within a few days I had caught up to episode 25. This has the somewhat unfortunate side effect of meaning that I have watched more MLP than my sister, but I don't really care. Now I'm just waiting until tomorrow to see the last episode of this season.
ReplyDeleteEpisode 1. Like a boss.
