"Taking it in stride" is something they are not doing however, with their essential "middle finger" in Hasbro's direction. This, combined with the recent attacks on The Hub's non-pony facebook updates probably isn't painting our little community in the best light. Biting the hand that feeds us is something we should practice avoiding.
While I'm on the fence about Youtube shutdowns, an actual full on download site may have been a bit too far. As much as I appreciate the Ponyarchive team for their hard work, FiM is still a relatively high budget cartoon, and with DVD's on the horizon, as well as the iTunes downloads finally stepping up their release speed, it was sort of inevitable.
One thing I do hope they consider, is the audience outside the US who have no access to the new episodes aside fom Youtube. This is an issue that needs to be addressed more than anything. FiM is breaking new ground, so it's not a huge surprise that things are happening slowly, but alternative methods should probably be explored before cutting off the supply entirely.

ponyarchive.eu now REDIRECTS to gay porn.
After a timeout of 15 seconds, it redirects to the site 1.ooskar.com, which is an infamous and rather nasty troll site that is designed to create an unclosable window using an infinitely spawning dialog box. It's supposed to play old man gay shower porn when it loads. I'm glad for tools that stop flash and scripts from preloading! Don't leave home page without them!
I've not analyzed ALL of the code on the site, but there is some google analytics code present in the html, so BE CAREFUL. I'm not sure what it's doing, or reporting, with that code. Clicking ponyarchive will now lock your computer on gay porn (the infamous batman.swf troll file to be specific), forcing a Ctrl-Alt-Del of an Opt--Esc (if you're a Mac user).
Though... According to youtube and google, they both agree that it plays the Andy Griffith show opening tune in the background (there is a version on youtube with ALL the video censored), which is about as lulzy as it gets, considering teh nasty this site is supposed to throw your way! XD
GOD am I glad I have safeguards that force Flash and scripts to require my manual approval before they execute! LOL!!! There's a REASON I use these tools!
At this point, Ponyarchive.eu has escalated to full warfare. Ponyarchive are trolls.
The next person calls these sick fucks at ponyarchive friends, is gonna be called a dumbass by me, in my ☾ ROYAL CANTERLOT VOICE ☽. These sick fucks are NOT our friends.
@richfiles
ReplyDeletegood god, you're right. I only visited for about 5 seconds, so I never got the "surprise". I thought you were joking, then I looked at the html code, sure enough

guess I should reinstall those flash block tools for FF, in case other sites try this without waiting 15 seconds.
@richfiles
ReplyDeleteforgot, thank you so much for the warning, I almost was going to try looking for invisible links that may lead to their torrents/downloads, which I suspect are viruses, if they still exist.
I noticed that Firefox 9 allowed me to break out of the loop easily. First I tried to close the tab and the "HELLO" dialog popped up and I clicked the X on it, then the next dialog asked "Prevent this site from opening additional dialogs?" (or something like that).. Then the entire tab closed. Pretty slick!
ReplyDelete@richfiles
ReplyDeletePlease richfiles, put down your pitchfork and noose. We don't need to jump to lynchings. Our little community is currently in the middle of a very concentrated effort of trolling by the group NCF and a number of other trolls.
This has been going on for a few weeks, as shown by the loss of a number of our youtube pony channels, the closing of AlexS' channel, and many PMV's. For all we know, it could have been the trolls that sic'ed Hasbro's legal team on PonyArchive.
There's a very, very good chance one of them merely hacked the former PA site and redirected the url. Such an attack used to be called 'Donkey-porn'ing' (because the hacker would redirect the site to a donkey-porn site) and was pretty common back in the mid-to late 90's. I'm not sure what the new term for it is, but I don't think this is the work of PA.
Their beef is with the Hasbro legal team, not us bronies. I'll still stand by them and say that I appreciate all the work they did for us. In the meantime, do you, or does anypony have an email or method to contact some of the PA folks? If nopony else is willing to contact them and see what's going on, I'd be more than willing to. Lynch mobs just aren't my thing.
I need some help and direction though. I never took the opportunity to get down their email address so I could use a reference here. Anypony? Please?

I have to come clean. I'm confessing that I did download the entire first season at PA and the second season at TPB. After reading that PA got shut down, I feel that I'm not being faithful to the show and Hasbro by downloading the episodes. I've decided to delete every episode of MLP:FiM from my computer, to shed light to Hasbro and the brony community of doing the right thing.

ReplyDeleteI love the extra built in security. Nice when software gives you options to fight back against dangerous web content.
I'm running older software, so all my security is in add ons. I so wish I had a newer computer. Someday. I'm just glad to have done my effort to prevent anyone from seeing that trash.

☾ CINNAMON FRITTER, YOU BUCKING DUMBASS!!! YOU CLAIM I'M THE ONE CARRYING A PITCH FORK AND NOOSE, AND YOU STILL DEFEND PONYARCHIVE'S MALICIOUS BEHAVIOR. THEY ARE THE ONES TRYING TO LOCK UP PEOPLES BROWSERS, REDIRECTING THEM TO A GAY PORN SHOCK SITE, A SITE THAT REPORTS DATA BACK THROUGH GOOGLE ANALYTICS... PONYARCHIVE ARE THE ONES LYNCHING THIS FANDOM! I ONLY WARNED EVERYONE WHAT THEY ARE DOING, AND THAT THEY ARE ESCALATING THE VILE NATURE OF THEIR BEHAVIOR. YOU ARE THE ONE HITCHED BEHIND PA, WEARING A PAIR OF BLINDERS. YOU ARE THE ONE WHO IS HAPPY TO WATCH PONYARCHIVE'S HORSE SHIT DROP IN FRONT OF YOUR FACE AND PRETEND IT SMELLS OF ROSES. PONYARCHIVE IS NOT YOUR FRIEND. FRIENDS DO NOT DO THESE SICK THINGS. I'VE SIMPLY COME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT YOU ARE EITHER A: STUPID, OR B: TROLLING. YOU, ARE A DUMBASS FOR DEFENDING THESE PA DONKEY DICKS! ☽
I will also say one more thing... NCR and the trolls that abuse the YouTube flagging system are a FAR cry from what is happening here. YouTube flag trolls abuse an easy to abuse system. Actually hacking a website is NOT that easy, and it's a bit foalish to think any of these things are remotely similar. NCR and trolls did not do this. The crew who have remained at Pony Archive, and are being whiney little flank wipes, are having a tantrum and acting out like 5 year olds.
I HIGHLY doubt that PA was "hacked". PA is just acting a foal, and putting innocent people at risk.

ReplyDeleteYou know... If you want to support hasbro, pay for the iTunes purchase if you live in a region where you can, and don't download the useless DRM infected files. Buy the DVD releases, even if they are lame random episode style discs.
There is no need to wipe out your collection. If Hasbro would just release the DVDs or a BluRay set, you could just rip them and use them on your PC as you see fit. I won't delete my files. I keep multiple sets. 270x480 PSP resolution, 640x360 for my mom's old laptop, and 720P clean rips for my PS3. I don't bother with 1080p, since they are usually watermarked. I don't need that. 720p is fine for me, till I can get BluRays.
That said, don't get all freaked out by what you have. get freaked out by what hasbro isn't selling you yet. Write them, ask them for better distribution. Ask them for episodes in your region. Ask them to license distribution in the future with a company that won't butcher the series on DVD, and won't ignore BluRay.
That's what I would do, and DO in fact do.
0ebaedde-2c5b-11e1-968e-000bcdcb5194 was me btw.
ReplyDelete@richfiles
ReplyDeleteOk, I don't like having to get this blunt, but it appears necessary here. richfiles, you're being an ignorant dick. You have no proof that it's PA behind the redirecting-site code. You have no proof that they're mad at bronies. You have no proof that it is not trolls doing this (in the midst of a very blatant, concentrated effort by a number of people who's sole purpose with their free time is to disrupt what we're doing).
You have no proof Hasbro Management is even aware that their legal team decided to go after PA. You have no proof that PA's reaction makes us look worse than the number of clopfics and gorefics out there. YOU HAVE NO PROOF OF ANYTHING, AND HAVE MADE NO ATTEMPT TO CLARIFY THE SITUATION OR HELP. YOU ARE AN IGNORANT DICK WHO IS TOO TRIGGER HAPPY TO START A LYNCH MOB.
While I appreciate you giving everyone a heads up on the trojan, I do not appreciate how quick you are to cannibalize those who've put hundreds of hours of more work than you into supporting this fandom worldwide.
You have no proof, and you're making us all look like a bunch of cross-burning, pack-mentality hillbillies. I do not appreciate that.
If you're not a part of the solution, you're a part of the problem.
@GM
Thank you very kindly for the info, sir. I don't have the time to locate and configure an irc client tonight (gotta rig up my father's IV T-T), but I'll see what I can find out tomorrow evening.
Wow! That was a big NSFW! I mean, I do like the Andy Griffith theme but seriously, Ponyarchive is more than a hate message right now. I must now find my mind bleach.
ReplyDeleteQuestion: How do most of you feel about watching episodes on YouTube? Do you all prefer to download the content?
Wow, what a **** move from ponyarchive. I understand the anger when the website you worked hard on gets taken down unexpectedly, but Hasbro is being more than generous to us MLP fans by letting people upload episodes on youtube, something most companies wouldn't allow.
ReplyDeleteThanks for making us look like an ungrateful, immature bunch. I can only hope Hasbro doesn't change their open minded attitude because of this incident.

I would like to officially go on record as saying that I have had nothing to do with PonyArchive since the first Cease & Desist hit, and I would like to disassociate myself from the message currently up on the site. This is NOT a friend.
"Fuck you, Hasbro
Dear Celestia,
Today we learned that Hasbro, are no real bros. They are indeed proper wankers. We were only trying to spread the word that friendship is magic, and then these twats came along with their fancy threat-letters. Please, banish HasNObro to the hell-holes forever.
Yours truly
Pony Mc Archiveington"
...
follow this with a loop of gay porn, data logging of some unknown kind, and a dialog box browser bomb.
THESE are NOT friends.
The true friend, simonAJ, was kind, courteous, and got out of this abomination while he was able to, and has made it clear he finds what the others are doing to be offensive.
Don't sit there and call me an ignorant dick, when all you can do is cry we have no proof. All you are doing is making assumptions yourself. Hypocrite!
You don't get it...
Regardless of their intentions, this has the potential to be the single most harmful thing to befall this community. If Hasbro is forced to take legal actions due to anything PA might do, it will put Hasbro's IP under scrutiny of the courts. IF this happens, they may be forced to crack down on copyright to prove to the courts that their IP is being actively protected, and deserves legal protection by judgment.
What I base my proof on is simonAJ's response. He left PA and has given no indication that the site was hacked. He stated instead that he feels what remains is immature and unwise.
Finally... I guess my desire to get this site down automatically equates me with cross burning racist lynch mobs in your mind...
really?
You're kidding... You're kidding, right?
Go buck yourself
YOU COMPARE ME TO RACISTS AND MURDERERS
You are such an insensitive asshat. For one thing, congratulations on devaluing the pain, suffering, agony, and hardship that the REAL victims of such REAL hate have suffered over history. Nice of you to devalue human pain like that.
I didn't know the internet was such srs bsns to you. I didn't know wanting to get a site taken down that is posing a threat to are little cartoon fandom qualifies me to be tagged with the likes of racists who oppress innocent people, and murderers who rope people up...
You have GOT to get your priorities straight and your head screwed on straight. I try to be sane, but you are no friend of mine. You are sick. You defend the vile tantrum of the remaining troll(s) running a website that was hit with a LEGAL Cease and Desist for legitimate copyright violations, but for me, I apparently deserve to be tagged with the same horrific titles given to racist cross burning hillbillies, and rope from a tree, hang a man with no due process, murderers???
Wait... wut?
Yeah, screw you.
I'm sorry to hear you have to aide your father like that. I hope he does better. I don't know what he needs an IV for, but I'll pray he fairs well. Seriously though, get your priorities straight though.
You are blindly defending the remnants of a group who are having a tantrum cause they got told to stop violating Hasbro's legal rights... and all while calling people cross burners and lynchers for siding with HASBRO and this FANDOM, and calling out PA on their horse manure.
YOUR INTOLERANCE sickens me, and makes me shake my head in shame.
maybe what you need to do is go take care of your father instead of defending a bunch of trolls with racially insensitive slurs. You can do him far better than you can do us. He apparently needs you. I DON'T need your crap.
You know... You kinda, sorta, maybe, possibly hit a sore spot with your cross burning lynch mob comments.
ReplyDeleteIf you're wondering... I'm white. My entire family on my mother's side lived in Mississippi during the 1960s. We were the minority. We supported equal rights, and for my mother, growing up in that hostile environment... there were days that she was genuinely scared of the crazies. They'd hurt people who said or did the "wrong" thing... She remembers trucks tailing her home. She remembers words she will always leave to my imagination. So yeah. I'm BUCKING OFFENDED to be associated with those kinds of sick bastards.
I may shout a fuck you, or you're an asshat, or a dick... But I'll never take things that far. Good God!
Good lord guys, can we agree to disagree? While it is my opinion that mass piracy has become the consumer's few channels of protest, many obviously don't agree. I also don't agree that it was entirely on the fault of Hasbro's legal nor entirely on the fault of Ponyarchive. To be perfectly fair, Ponyarchive's response were both extremely tongue in cheek and Hasbro was completely in the legal right to shut them down. And did anyone even bother to check ponyarchive.eu even belongs to the admins? I once said that bronies were the nicest people on the net along with Earthbound fans. That still applies, but we're REALLY pushing it. Done.
ReplyDelete@ponyarchive Undoubtedly you've already heard this from countless others, but it bears repeating: That "trolling" has absolutely no basis in humor and can hardly be interpreted as anything BUT an immature, rude, and hateful response to a company who is very clearly in the right for their course of action against you. And such a response IS a bad depiction of the character of the Brony community as a whole whether you intended as such or not; when you identify as a Brony yourself, you are a representative for ALL of us, like it or not. But posting a message like that on the webpage is decidedly UN-Brony and WILL draw the ire of the community as a whole, as can be seen in the comments here. Sure, it may seem rather cultish, but as a community we have an image to maintain, and those that go against it WILL be ostracized by a great many of us. Image is everything. Just look at the furries. The public perception of furries is very highly unrepresentative of the majority of the furry community. We cannot allow the same to happen to the Brony community.
ReplyDeleteSo please. If wants to send a message to Hasbro, let it be this:
"We want our fellow Bronies around the world to be able to enjoy this show as it was intended by its loving creators: with all of the correct colors and in its original 1080p format as broadcast; all of which iTunes does not offer us.
Even worse, the iTunes episodes occasionally have additional animation errors that did not make it to the master broadcast copies. Even the direct broadcast rips posted on YouTube were of suboptimal quality since they suffered from many instances of video compression artifacts; but these were superior and preferable to the quality of the iTunes episodes, which themselves far exceed the quality offered by inherent limitations in DVD's. In addition, iTunes is not ideal for those of us who choose not to support Apple or its services for various reasons, including device interoperability. We want it to be accessible to everypony, and we mean everypony, for the good of the message of Love and Tolerance. Many of us around the world are willing to support the show financially if only you would let us, and many of us do not particularly care for supporting the franchise through merchandise. We want to enjoy our ponies using the best methods available; it's just unfortunate that up to this point, the only "best methods" available for many of us involved piracy. Even many of us in the U.S. cannot enjoy MLP or any of the other programming broadcast on The Hub simply because it isn't offered in our markets, or we would have to subscribe to exorbitantly priced premium channel packages from our providers that do not make economical sense for us.
Not to mention that the live-streaming mare-athons, (interspersed with fan-created content) leading up to the live broadcasts of new episodes offer us a place to gather as a community and enjoy the franchise in the presence of friends, to celebrate the very message the show extolls.
So please. End regional restrictions. End the limitation of official content distribution to methods that only offer sub-par quality or limited market availability. Give us what we want, and we will gladly give our financial support to the franchise.
--The Brony Community"
What was the "middle finger" to hasbro?
ReplyDeleteNope, piracy improves a product sales with no direct cost to the owner through digital distribution.
ReplyDeleteyou guys are talking about the message??? I saw something way worse than that.
ReplyDeleteyou can still download the episodes from my page : http://grayjeager.blogspot.com/p/episodes-telecharger.html
ReplyDelete@waffle911
ReplyDeleteI love you, man. Completely sums up what's on everyone's minds.
I never used PonyArchive, but I still want to put my 2 cents in. They were fools if they thought they were entitled to do what they were doing forever. Hasbro had the good grace to let them (and by extension, the fan community) get this stuff for free 'till official releases starting coming out. PonyArchive should have seen this coming, but instead of accepting that they had an unspoken agreement with Hasbro over the downloads they acted like spoiled children. Hopefully those involved with such things at Hasbro don't take their immature, spiteful response as indicative of the community as a whole because I for one do not want to be associated with their spiteful temper tantrum. It seems that they expect the fandom to rally around them, but I hope it isn't the case; their sense of entitlement doesn't deserve support.
ReplyDeleteI guess this fanbase has gotten too big to be universally awesome. The full downloads were awesome, and I thank them for it, but did they actually think they were completely justified in distributing someone else's product?
ReplyDeleteStill, if Hasbro's going to put an end to online downloads, they should step up their game and make some box sets already. I'd love to give them my money, but the pricey 3-episode DVD's with repeated episodes don't sit well with me, and I like to own a physical copy of what I buy.
I don't think it's Ponyarchive's fault.
ReplyDeleteThe site is still up, the "fuck you hasbro" is just a redirect, and I think there's been malware detected in there.
Love (and tolerance) is over.
ReplyDeleteI must say, while I am on the fence about the reaction of Ponyarchive, I do think Hasbro taking down the videos was slightly foolish. Look at things like Red vs Blue, they can be viewed for free but people still buy their DVDs. Hasbro taking down our videos is actually going to loose them sales as people will not buy out of principle. I know I was about 2 days away from going and buying some figures, now they can forget it. Some people want it for free, some are willing to pay for extra, but taking down our videos is only going to annoy people.

Well, we did this for teh lulz.
Why not end it all with a big trolling instead of playing nice with has"bro"?
Stop being so boring everyone, it's not like we're illegal anymore.
Why do these matter?
Imagine if you and your roommates are evicted from your home. You're bummed out, but you take your stuff out of the place, and you go and turn over your key...
Only to find your roommate stayed behind cuz he was mad, changed the locks, and is now vandalizing the horse manure out of the old place. You don't have a key to get back in anymore, so you can't go back to stop it.
That's what I see going on here. SimonAJ left, possibly others left, but one or more people stayed behind and decided to act out like a two year old having a tantrum.
The good people left. Clearly the worthless ones stayed. Even if the ponyarchive comment is a troll, it doesn't change the fact that we know simonAJ left on good terms. If even one person stayed behind to change the passwords... well, we all see what's happened.
SimonAJ is still good brony, and our friend. Whoever remains at the remains of PA, they are NOT our friends. They've become foul beaked Gilda wannabes. Rainbow kicked Gilda out of town. We have every right to do the same to the remains of PA.
@Ember Glow
ReplyDeleteWait... wut?
YOUR videos. They are Hasbro's videos.
They HAVE begun to release DVDs, even if they aren't the magic box sets we all desire. They have EVERY RIGHT to take down PA. The fact that they were providing downloads of something they've sold on iTunes for ages is proof of their long standing tolerance of our behavior. Hasbro has been KIND to us!
The only thing your kneejerk boycott style action will do, is reduce pony related sales, and reduce the chances of future seasons.
Enough with the flankhurt!
Hasbro took down THEIR videos that others were sharing.

I'm sad to see the youtube channel go, but what can you do? I imagine these links too will someday disappear. I just hope by then that we have ready access to DVDs of all the episodes. It's ridiculous to think that ceasing to support Hasbro can in any way benefit this community!
As much as I hate iTunes video downloads, I am budgeting enough cash after Christmas (hoping for cash in my Christmas cards please :) to buy the full season 1 HD MLP:FiM iTunes downloads. I probably won't even bother to download them. I just want to be able to say I paid for them all. I'll still continue to download them off the internet, in DRM free MP4 format, as those files can be transfered to my PS3 and played on my HDTV.
I'm also plan to buy all the DVDs they release. I made my own Season 1 box set. I'll update the discs with the watermark free color corrected files I've found as well. I'll also make Season 2 discs. I might not even take them out of the plastic, but I want to support Hasbro. I want to support My Little Pony.
Also, does anyone know where I can find the My Little Pony: Adventures in Ponyville DVD that features the episodes Swarm of the Century, Sonic Rainboom, and The Cutie Mark Chronicles?
I have NOT been able to find it anywhere, and the identically titled flash game on the hub's website steals most of the google results.
I'm not sure if Hasbro actually cares what Ponyarchive puts up after this but still, it is in our interest to maintain at least polite relations with them. After all, they could simply just order PMVs, fan fictions, Fighting is Magic or any one of the fanworks populating the Internet to be removed.
ReplyDeleteWell... even if this is shut down, it still won't make me sign up for itunes to buy the stuff. And for those people who flat out aren't in the US... piracy is their 'ONLY' option. way to encourage it Hasbro! When you sell the season 1 dvd then you can complain about copyright infringment.
ReplyDeleteReally, I don't blame Hasbro. If I was producing a tv show, and I knew that there was one website where everyone was watching my stuff for free, and I was getting nothing from it, I'd shut it down too.
ReplyDeleteSorry everyone, I haven't yet had a chance to attempt to contact the remnants of the PA guys in order ask them what their side of the story is. Ended up having a seizure that landed me in the hospital shortly after my last post. Fortunately a family member brought a netbook today so I can check up on things.
ReplyDeleteIf anyone has the freetime, and an open mind, feel free to see what they have to say; GM has their irc channel posted a little further up the page. Otherwise it'll be a couple of days before I can walk out of here and do it myself. (The only upside to a seizure is that it's the most complete workout you'll ever have in your life. Jesus Christ everything is hurts, even my eyebrows. T-T )
@richfiles
All I saw on my end was your repeated posts on how horrible a 'monster' PA is and how you would call anyone that sided with them a dumbass. I said I was appreciative of the hard work that they did for the community and immediately got a two paragraph capslock reply from you calling me stupid, a dumbass, and a troll.
Blind hate is blind hate; no matter how small or where it starts. I can understand though; people like to have a common enemy. Something they can hate without thought like zombies, or 'terrorists', or nazis. The witch-trial mentality has been bred into us and it's very hard, nigh-impossible to recognize and curb.
I still don't see them as trolls, merely some poor fellows that put out alot of effort for something they (had to have, at some-point) believed in. They lost sight of the real world, it's harshness and general uncaring and got caught with their pants down. When they lost all their work, especially right after a site redesign, I'm sure they got mad.
When the community backed away and treated them like lepers... well, who knows how far over the edge that'll push someone. I personally don't think EQD's little mooncannon image over the headline was a very mature way to say 'thanks for the effort guys'. I would've gone with Fluttershy crying over the ashes of Filamena or something less 'lolz at you'-ish.
richfiles, if you want to hate me, fine. Hate me. I have much larger, and more uncontrollable, issues to deal with than to try and convince you otherwise. Just use some of that energy to keep the pony spread and maybe find someone that can get PA's side of the story. Have a Merry Christmas, and I hope you find something worthwhile of all that energy.
@Cinnamon Fritter
ReplyDeleteSorry for offending, but you have your order of events wrong. The image that EqD put up was a confused looking Twi at the spa, to announce the Cease and Deist. A couple days after, they changed the site to the .eu instead of .com to presumably try to claim immunity from the US laws, took down the actual content, and replaced it with the foul message.
It's just that Ponyarchive turned aggressive first, by announcing that they were going to ignore the C&D order, That was a bad move. It's only after they made that announcement, that some people (simonAJ for one) ditched the site, not wanting to be associated with the resistance against a legal order. After simonAJ left, the contents went down and the nasty message popped up, and they basically were rude to Hasbro.
It was after they put up the foul message, that Seth THEN put up the Second EqD post with the moon canon pic. SimonAJ announced that he had already left within the first page of the post's comments, and a poster using the name ponyarchive said they were doing it for the lulz.
The message, foul as it may be, is overtly supportive of the desire to share episodes, buy ridiculing Hasbro for taking that away. Trolls would not be posting a message, foul or no, with an attitude supporting the distribution of the show.
This whole mess is getting to people, and I'll admit, the last 3 days, I've been fuming mad. I don't really hate you, and I hope you are doing better. It sounds like you've had some hard times. It's just that I can't for the life of me understand how you can support these actions, even remotely. The "good" people left, and the remnants are just being disgusting. Your logic is to my brain, like one of those paradox questions are to a 1960's era movie computer. Does. Not. Compute. --smoke--
As for my long ROYAL CANTERLOT VOICE reply, it was a combination of you sitting in the crosshairs at the wrong moment. I said next person defends them, I'd go all CANTERLOT VOICE on them. You were the one who made the biggest defense of them, right after I said I'd do it... That's all it was. I'm sick of this disgusting farce of a site tarnishing the image of our fandom. At this point, they only exist to troll. They should give up, save the server costs, and just shut down.
As for episode availability, there are many ways to access episodes online. Heck, I just posted earlier, all of season two and 5 episodes of season 1 as direct downloads, watermark free, and in 720p. The internet isn't going to be silenced in a day. Ponyarchive was one resource among many. That is all. Their loss sucks for them, and for those who liked the site, but they had no right to do what they do, and they had no right to defy the C&D order. They were the worst kind of belligerent. What they did was technically, never legal. Given how vile their response escalated to, I can't ever feel sorry for them. Ever.
I say that individual users should maintain ever changing google documents (even though i hate that service for it's finicky nature), to hold direct and torrent based DL links. Text is easy to download, it's not easily web searchable, but it you know to look for the link in comments posts for new episodes... well, there you go. It's more fluid, and not tied to any domain.
That's how I would do it anyway.
There's nothing wrong with a little effort and digging to find what you need.
PA's original 'middle finger' is back, and I don't know about everyone else, but I've had no redirect or attempted trojans. The window has been open on my netbook for the better part of an hour with out so much as a peep from my anti-virus. The picture of Pinkie-Pie is missing, which *could* suggest that someone other than them was tromping through their files, moving/deleting/modifying things.
ReplyDeleteI looked at the source and it doesn't seem like there's any redirecting to the aforementioned ...'alternate site.' Then again, my eyes are still a little blurry, so I could've missed something.
However, to me, it's starting to look like they were indeed 'Donkey-porn'ed', an old troll/hacker method meant to tick people off. And if it truly was, judging from some of the above posts, the trolls succeeded fantabulously. (and an un-dignifying moment for us; IF such is true.)
BUT, everything is still up in the air. I cannot confirm nor deny anything resolutely, except for the fact that I've regained use of all ten fingers for typing (not as well as they should be, but better than the crab claws of yesterday...) and I should be out of the hospital tomorrow. I look forward to seeing if there's anything to be found out about PA's side of the story.
Hasbro has really been a wonderful group of people to give us as much freedom as we've enjoyed with this show. I really hope they don't see the rest of us Bronies as being the embittered spoilsports that Pony Archive has turned out to be.
ReplyDelete@Cinnamon Fritter
ReplyDeleteYeah, as far as I know, it stopped redirecting to the nasty site after the news was posted to a nightly roundup (forgot which day). It was brought up that many innocent people, including minors, may visit the site, not knowing about the fiasco, and could end up seeing these very inappropriate things. I think the redirect was taken out the next day.
I had confirmed with the source before, during, and after the redirect. All of the 3 versions used the exact same code, with the only difference being the page redirect line. Even now, the only change, is that they deleted or moved the Pinkie Pie image from it's original server directory. The message still is undeniably directing ALL it's anger at Hasbro, and supports the sharing of pony videos.
I really don't think outside trolls and parasprites would be so concerned for the children, nor would they mourn the loss of free pony episodes.
I'm still absolutely convinced that this is all committed by the few remaining people from PA who didn't take the lifeboats as the ship started sinking. I feel with absolute certainty, that no outsiders are in control of the site.
It's a sad state of affairs, but denial is the only thing preventing PA's few remaining friends from calling them out on their actions. You can choose to be friends with a flankhole, but don't make excuses based out of absurdity to pretend they are not responsible for their actions. They made the community turn on them, and nopony else!
I wish we could hear some news from the source...
Alas! I presume they are too afraid of coming out at this point and ever admitting they are the cause of this fiasco. They are to cowardly to accept any responsibility! It is The. Worst. Possible. Thing!
But I really mean it this time! :)
Sooo, how about us non US folks? the world said it was all about globalization, and here we are getting blocked from a show that not yet reached our shore.
ReplyDeleteAnd the fact that not everyone own cable TV, so let say they have the show in my cable, how about fans who can't afford cable or live in a place where they can't get cable?
Remember, fans are the one who made a show successful, and here we are getting clamped down. This is it? is this all about money? and they said most profit come from toys and most cut from iStore goes to Hasbro.
And for the goodness sake, made it available outside iStore, DRM free! if you do that Hasbro, then here my money!
Your arguments are... pointless.
ReplyDeleteNone of that matters. All that needs to be said is that Pony Archive was illegally sharing files of content NOT their own. It is piracy. Even then, I let that go since Hasbro seemed okay with it.
The MOMENT Hasbro said it wasn't okay, Pony Archive SHOULD NOT have made that "Fuck you!" letter. That is all. That is all that's needed to be said here. I cannot understand ANYONE being sympathetic of them until someone justifies that one action they made. Until then, I firmly remain being absolutely disgusted by these bastards.
(Either that or if they write an apology.)
Then how can I get ponies
ReplyDelete"While I'm on the fence about Youtube shutdowns, an actual full on download site may have been a bit too far."
ReplyDeleteUntil they release box sets and release reasonably priced (1.99 for HD max) episodes DAY AND DATE with the on-air versions then a full-on download site IS NOT too far.

ReplyDeleteAs much as it is a shame that PonyArchive has been shut down, it's a download site so I get it... and perhaps now that the Bronies assoc. with Pony Archive have gotten their frustrations out, maybe it's time for everypony (all of us too) to let cooler heads prevail...
ReplyDeleteOH GREAT! thanks to "hasbro" and its copyright "thing", i cant watch MLPFIM NO MORE!
ReplyDeletehow am i suppose to watch it NOW?
and yet,i dont even LIVE in U.S..
Hasbro should know that without youtube,MLPFIM will not be popular as is it now!
Hasbro is officially the 2nd incarnation of Viacom. Thats all i half to say.
ReplyDeleteThere are still plenty of ways to watch ponies.
ReplyDeleteScroll up to find my links to some beautiful color corrected, watermark free, 720p episodes (Season 1: Eps 1-5, and S2, Eps 1-11), provided the links are still viable.
Bronystate and other sites offer LIVE livestreams (hence the "live" part) of the episodes as they air. We get people from all over the world! I hang in the Twilight Sparkle room. Come the day before for some movies and older pony episodes! Sometimes, we run all night, right up to the new episode! Sometimes we watch Doctor Who or Invader Zim, or we watch some live gaming, or they take requests and play pony music videos! It's always a fun experience.
If you watch Equestria Daily's episode discussions, you will eventually find youtube links. Even if they are taken down, they are usually up more than long enough to capture them. I use Clipnabber or offliberty to actually save the youtube files.
I still like the idea of creating a few Google documents that contain links to the episodes. It's an easy resource to move around, backup, shift between accounts, and almost impossible to suppress.
Yes, if you used pony archive, it will be a little harder to follow pony episodes, but it will only require a minimal bit of extra work.
I am also immensely happy that ponyarchive is finally down for good... It's sad to see the service they provided go, but when Hasbro dictated it be done, they should have not been so foul about it.
My happiness is in the fact that they are no longer sharing hate.
For that, I am grateful!
Hasbro had the right to shut it down. These guys are not real Bronies. Now people will finally support the show.
ReplyDeletenooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
ReplyDeleteYoutube was my start on watching My Little Pony. Now I watch it everyday on the hub. Now so many fans will miss out.
ReplyDeleteNOTICE: any site pertains to ponyarchive now redirects to thepiratebay.com my message is DO NOT DOWNLOAD FROM thepiratebay MOST OF THE DOWNLOADS THERE ARE TRACKED BY THE FEDS AND LAW ENFORCEMENT OF A WOLD WIDE SCALE UNLES YOU WANT LAW ENFORCEMENT KNOCKING ON YOUR DOOR...
ReplyDeleteBy the way...I do not support pa....I just finished watching season 2 yesterday after about a month of starting out with season 1 episode 1. Please forgive me for double posting but I didn't want people to think that I supported pa. Hasbro had every right to shut them down. They had fim copyrighted...copyright laws applies to all countries around the globe so pa was in fact in direct violation of copyright laws despite Hasbro being from the US
ReplyDeleteDude, why are you complaining about something that ended half an year ago. No one's complaining. No one even remembers. Hell, no one WANTS to remember! But, you!
