• Story: Bright New Days

[Crossover][Shipping][Random] I had to pass this one around a bit to really understand it.. Apparently its following a distinct Dr. Who style, so those that have never seen the show will probably be in the same boat I am.  A fan of Dr. Who said it was really well done though! So lets roll with it!

    Author: Raz_Fox
Description: Twilight Sparkle notices something very odd about her day, and is determined to find out what's wrong.
    No.

    Something's...

Twilight Sparkle thinks something very strange is happening during her day, and is steadfast in her desire to discover the truth of the matter.

    1. Doctor Who from the Doctor's own mind maybe. Brilliant story.

    2. Being a huge DW fan myself I can see it.
That being said, the author conveyed Twilight's panic quite well and I stared feeling a bit anxious myself.

    3. I'll be honest. That story creeped me out a bit.

The idea that Twilight managed to live out every single one of her lives at the same goddamn time is the scariest thing I've thought about all day.

      5/5. Wonderful work.

    4. This freaked me out. I mean REALLY freaked me out. I don't know if I'm misinterpreting the ending or something, but...did the Doctor fail to help, or what? Did Twilight simply go insane from the event, and simply couldn't be bothered by it anymore? :(

The Doctor:Some things are fixed, some things are in a flux. Pompeii is fixed.
Donna Noble: How do you know which is which?
The Doctor: That's how I see the universe. Every waking second, I can see: what is, what was, what could be, what must not. That's the burden of a Time Lord, Donna. And I'm the only one left.

He made her forget. That's all he could do; remove the horrible burden from knowledge from her shoulders.

    7. An amazing piece of work. I didn't really understand some of it but the rest was genius. I had to re-read it a couple of times to make sure I got every third line right.

    8. Your mind cannot comprehend everything, for not only would you know and experience everything, but also, you would experience and know nothing.

    9. The stream-of-consciousness style is refreshing.

This is a Doctor Who spoof, but I think the author deconstructed the whole fandom in general too:

It's Derpy, wait, isn's she actually "Ditzy Doo"? No, she's Derpy, right...?

Rainbow Dash loves Fluttershy, no wait, she loves Pinkie, no wait...

All these contradictions are true at the same time when you look at every fanfic here, together. If Twilight could see all that at once, she'd go nuts. Pinky probably already does, of course.

      I love this story.

    10. @Sandman and Phoe: Okay, thanks to your combined posts, I think I've come to grips with what happened. For some reason everyone (or at least Twilight) was seeing things how the Doctor sees them, and he made her forgot until it passed?

Whew, thank goodness. I was, like, this close to labelling it Grimdark in my mind. Anyways, really great fic.

At first, Pinkie went insane. Then she got tired of that and became sane again. Very, very sane.

    12. the whole use of "oh jk it was a dream" kind of fails do to the lack of imagery and structure of sentences.

    13. @Epona

this story's use of terse, quick sentences and dialogue does a better job of creating imagery than a ton of super explicit descriptions and exposition, which is what most people do

      two thumbs up from me

    14. To be clear: there are only ponies in this story.

(And a baby dragon, but that's splitting hooves.)
(And two pegasi and a unicorn. But they're lumped together under the broad umbrella of ponykind.)

...I probably should have outright said "This is Doctor Whooves" at some point, shouldn't I?

    15. That's some grade A metafiction.
I do love the fact that everything anyone is doing is true at any given time.

Though I have to wonder, if that's the same way Celestia sees the world as well. Or if Twilight's one step away from helping replace the Time Lords again.

I'm pretty sure that it's not 'just a dream'. The Doctor did something to her mind so that she could no longer see the...let's call them glitches, in the system.

Can this tag ever be topped?

    18. I think I get it, though I could be wrong. For those who've seen Doctor Who, remember the end of series 4?

      ReplyDelete
    19. This is a seriously Doctor Who-style work. I can't believe how horrific the ending is, especially with that subliminal final phrase!

    20. I liked this very much, entirely different to a normal or even a random pony story. You have to know dr who to understand what happened, but the good doctor knows what he's doing. Most of the time.

      ReplyDelete
    21. call me retarded but I watch dr. who and still don't get this can anyone tell me what episode this is a reference to just so I can watch through it again (because I haven't watched dr. who in ages) and try to figure this out?

      ReplyDelete
    22. Creepy and intriguing at the same time. I want to know if anything happens after. Does the universe unravel or does the doctor save it? Does Twilight start seeing it happen again? I would really enjoy another part to this story.

      ReplyDelete
    23. I had to read it twice to get it.
      Pretty good.

    24. That freaked me out. I don't watch doctor who but I know enough about time and physics and philosophy to be thoroughly freaked out. Do not want to happen to me, ever.

    26. @acousticbrony

I don't think the story refers to any particular episode. Twilight somehow figured out how to see 'What could have been and what must never be.' Doctor Whooves helped her forget.

    28. And The Doctor manages to yet avert another cataclysmic disaster; this time, helping Twilight Sparkle "unsee" the possible what-could've-been's and should-never-be's.

Seriously Doctor, you are a Savior among saviors in my book.

    29. WOW....
      ...simply wow...
have no idea who Dr. Who is but the multiverse theory makes sense!

      ReplyDelete
    30. @Anonymous

If you know about multiverse theory, you should definitely check out Doctor Who! XD

Also, the story is awesome. The way it was written it kinda reminded me of the thinking process I go through when I write a story - the jumbled, disconnected parts and half-formed sentences nearly look like story notes of an indecisive author! :P

Brilliantly done. Though I am left with a bit of dread...the Doctor hasn't fixed this mess yet, has he? He was crying at the end...

    31. Oh God that nailed Doctor Who perfectly. Next Steven Moffat in the making we got here folks (Moffat was just a fan before becoming a once per season writer followed by the new lead writer after all).

      ReplyDelete
    32. Ok, my headcanon for this story is that Twilight was the Doctor's assistant before she started seeing the multiverse and that's why he's sad that he had to erase her memory. Otherwise, I don't see a reason for him to be shedding a tear that when he walks out the door. Just like with Donna Noble...

    33. It took awhile, but I finally got it. I need to watch more Doctor Who. Great fic.
