It's a very tough choice again! On one hand, Pinkie's interplanetary prank is a better joke; on the other, "The Bestest Pranksgiving Ever" is a better story... And the rest aren't bad, either!

ReplyDeleteHmm, I was hoping I had done a better job than what the results so far are indicating. (Pride goes before a Folly). Any suggestions to improve for next time? My suspicion is that while the quality is good, the base concept is not standing out from the crowd. Is this correct?

ReplyDeleteIt was a good story, all the ponies stayed in character, and it flowed very well.
I would have voted for it if I weren't narcissistic. I think that the main reason why it's not getting all the votes is just that there are so many quality stories submitted for this competition. If it had been submitted by itself, and not hidden amongst 46 other competitors, you probably would have seen a lot more positive interest.
This one was a bit tougher since I actually enjoyed all the stories in this bracket.
ReplyDelete1. Had some nice character moments and physical comedy. Plus a nice twist at the end.
2. Had a lot of really fun characters (despite not being the mane 6) and ultimately just told a funny and sweet story.
3. Was really nice too. My favorite part was all the stuff with Angel. That little bunny really needs to come back.
4. The only "meta" story I enjoyed and I'll be damned if she doesn't get me everytime I even THINK about this one.
5. This one was basically a little episode. It was very cartoony and I saw it all perfectly in my mind.
But in the end, I just enjoyed 2 more than the others which is doubly impressive since they're all background ponies.

ReplyDeleteWell, that's what I was aiming for. My goal was to make it as much like an actual episode as possible. Perhaps I was TOO accurate, and it didn't have enough flair to wow people.

Honestly, I really had to go back and forth between yours and Pranksgiving.
Anyway, I think you did a really good job and I look forward to more from you.
The Pranksgiving one was reaaaally good. It had some of the best situational humor and writing I've seen in a LONG time. Haven't seen them all yet, but so far, that one has my vote.

ReplyDeleteI enjoyed them all since they all had something nice to them.
No.1. was puzzling in the beginning, wasn't expecting that ending. Was a bit simple but nontheless entertaining.
I must say No.2. was very very enjoyable, even with the background ponies. A nice story well written.
No.3. was really cute aswell, characters being true to their personalities.
No.4. is short but simply ingenious :)
No.5. Really feels like a storyboard for an upcoming episode :P
BAH, decisions decisions...
I went with The Bestest Pranksgiving Ever due to the story being nicely done and Dr Whoofs reminding me of Dr Cox from Scrubs.

I really appreciate hearing what you have to say about my story. I wasn't sure if I should keep trying to write or not, but hearing that you liked it makes me feel a lot better. Even if it doesn't place in the contest I'm content with it already. Maybe you'll see more from me in the future after all. For now though *yawn* I think I'll take a nap.

ReplyDeleteI really thought this was a strong bracket, with lots of 4-5 star stories (though admittedly I've never seen SPOILER so I feel like I'm a poor judge of the first one). I'm surprised it turned out this way.
ReplyDeleteI thought this would be a LOT closer, and I never would have thought of Pranksgiving being anywhere near last... I really, really enjoyed it! I wonder if lots of bronies were turned off from Pranksgiving by mistaking Lucky and Coconut for OCs when they're actually background ponies. Really well characterized background ponies, too! It was one of my favorites of the entire contest just because of how charming the writing is.
Please don't let this turn of events deter you from writing, Vincent, or any of the rest! Don't let one contest quash creative power!
Yeah, "The Bestest Pranksgiving Ever!" takes my vote. It's exciting to see what more obscure ponies could do in situations like that, and the writing style certainly helps that along in this story.

Everyone did a good job here. However, in the context of an april fools contest, I do have to vote for the story that successfully pranked me.

And really, only being behind by 100 isn't too bad. Heck, my story lost by over 200 in round 1, and I ended up in 3rd place!

ReplyDeleteIt took me a while to find my way back to this outdated voting page, but I'm glad I did. If I weren't so INCREDIBLY manly I would be tearing up right now. It's just...so great to hear all the nice things you're saying about my story. I'll admit that I don't understand why Lauren Faust's OC is ok while other people's isn't, but it doesn't really worry me. What worried me was that my story wouldn't be liked. Seeing that people really did enjoy it has made me feel better about writing than I thought I could feel, so thank you one and all. Your kind words alone are enough for me to consider you my friends.
