    Please reference THIS POST (<--CLICK HERE) for email instructions

    NEW: Please include an image with your story submission if possible! 

    Length Requirements:

    Multi-part Stories: ~3000+ Words minimum for the initial upload, 2000+ Per Extra Chapter
    One-Shot completed Stories: ~2500+ Words minimum.  

    Please Have someone edit your stories before you send them! The pre-readers are not editors, and will send it to the moon Celestia style if it's a mess.

    Quick Fanfic Guide for getting a quick response from pre-readers

    Spelling:
     - option 1 => Write your piece in UK English.
     - option 2 => Write your piece in American English.

    Paragraphs:
     - mandatory => Take a new paragraph for a new character speaking
     - option 1 => Indent new paragraphs
     - option 2 => Leave an empty line between paragraphs
     - option 3 => Do both of the above, which is my preferred method

    Scene changes:
     - option 1 => Leave an empty line between scene changes
     - option 2 => Put in a blank line, or a series of "===" or "---" or similar mark between them. This is the preferred method.

    Names:
     - mandatory => If a name has an official spelling, go with that!
     - mandatory => Some of the names aren't written, but check the Pony Wiki for correct, agreed upon, spelling!
     - exception to mandatory rule => One wiki has "Apple Bloom", but some people prefer "Applebloom" as her sister is "Applejack". "AppleBloom" is just wrong, as is "Apple bloom".
     - mandatory => If a background pony doesn't have an official name then please try to follow the generally agreed fanon names. You don't HAVE to, but if you start bringing up a mint-coloured pony with a lyre cutie mark who hangs around with Bon-Bon, when the readers find out you've named her "Strum Awesomeposture" they'll be mildly cheesed off.

     General Tips:
    -Self inserts/OC ponies are generally frowned upon by the community as a whole, but some of the best stories on the site have an all OC pony cast, so when done right, it's fine. 
    -Don't give up if people trash it.  Anon comments are enabled here, so people tend to say whats on their mind.  
    -No porn/gore.  Shipping on the other hand is all good. 
    -Cupcakes Sequels and Cupcakes alternate endings go to the Cupcakes post! 
    Pictures/comics

    Tips:
    -Don't send OC ponies
    -No porn
    -No gore
    News/Everything else
    I miss a lot of news, so it's a huge help when you guys send me something newsworthy.  I honestly dont mind if 300 people send me the same news, just go for it!

    Please don't send download links though.  Upload your stuff to somewhere to stream/play directly.

      I saw "Self Inserts" as being fowned upon.
      So in other words, we can't insert ourselves.
      M'kay, sure. I can see perfectly why that would be frowned upon. OC Ponies too? Alright... I can also see the reasons that would be considered negative, and agree with that as well.

      But what about characters that are not ponies, or not even native to the series, that we put in ourselves? Allow me to elaborate...
      If someone were to create their own big fanfiction, make an entire series or story by themselves, would it be alright to insert a character from that as a "crossover" sort of thing?
      I have been thinking about this for a while, and finally decided to post my dillema out for others to see. I have my own story (which is already being written down and has nothing to do with MLP) with my own custom made characters (who are non-human, and actually alien in a way) which I have though about ending up in the MLP world through some (possibly cliche, though i hope not) scenario sending them without warning into their world. I also have pictures of the characters which are 100% made up, and characteristics for each that is unique. The only thing that isn't my doing is the franchise it is a fanfic of. So, what I really am considering is making a fanfic with a crossover from another fanfic. Double Fanfic, all the way?

      Just want to know what you guys would think. If it's a bad idea or stupid, I'll most likely just drop it. If it's really something worth consideration, I might give it a shot by writing a chapter and looking at the feedback to see if it's worthy for further continuation. So, what do you guys think?

      Do you mind if I ask you a question? I've been thinking of writing a fanfic recently, but I have two mane (HA) problems.

      The first is that I'm not really the best when it comes to writing, especially when it comes to writing long epic storylines that I can imagine in my head but can't quite bring to life on paper/Notepad(I lack Microsoft Word on my laptop unfortunately).

      My second problem is that the primary villain of the piece is an OC, and I know from certain experiences (Especially on Ponibooru) that most OCs are treated with great amounts of ire.

      Should I write the story anyways? And perhaps try to see if I can get it on here? Or should I just kill the entire idea and bury it in the back yard? xwx

      I had the same question about the OC. So I went looking.

      I've seen a few stories with OCs in the archives and read the comments, and the conclusion I've come to is that, apparently, a lot of stories with OCs are not so good and so people have formed a bit of a prejudice against them.

      But it seems as if exceptions are made for awesome.

      I think the idea is basically "no bad Mary-Sues", and it's cool to do an OC if you want. Just be awesome. ;)

      Off to write my story featuring an OC villain.

      Is there a restriction on where to host an image?
      Ive submited an image via email containing a link to it. The image is hosted on Photobucket.
      I also have not recieved any reply to the email and its been about two weeks. Should I expect a longer delay in response?

      Found out this video, yes i know it's an OC pony, but it's his first animation, it's from the same guy which brought us the Pony Buttons with Yay and Eeyup and also Rainbow Dash

      The video uses background music and actual voice clips for RD, the ending is kinda dissapointing, but i heard he's making a Sequel so Rainbow will get her Rematch

      Question regarding the guide for fan fiction:

      "Take a new paragraph for a new character speaking"

      I know that's the common way to do it, but is anything else always totally unacceptable? What if it's a conscious style choice?

      So far I've been breaking the above rule for my story, deliberately for the most part. I've been told this choice imparts the story with a sense of urgency, which I think is fitting. I try to make it clear from the actual writing, instead of the formatting, who is speaking, using paragraphs only to signal actual shifts or natural breaks in the story.

      I tried to follow the above rule in the latest installment of my story, and I felt like it affected my writing and the story negatively. I'm not too eager to go back and make the previous parts conform too.

      That is far from true. This is an extremely popular type of fanfiction, especially when it comes to Sonic the Hedgehog, and, for the most part, they actually turn out quite well. Frankly, if it does well with Sonic and just about everything else on the planet, then it should work for ponies, as well. After all, what's the point of writing a fanfic if you can't be creative and show an additional cast of characters? You can't always use only the official characters. Sometimes, someone new needs to comes into the mix and people love it. In all of my years reading fanfics and fan comics, I have never seen the concept of Original Characters disliked. It is not frowned upon. It's embraced.

      Hero everyone! Hey, newfound brony here :D well, anyways, I'm finishing up a prologue to my first ponyfic, and just wanted a bit of clarify-cation on some rules.

      1st of all, when you say no gore, does that mean that there can be no mention or presence of dead ponies? You see, my story revolves around a post-war Equestria, and some flash backs into the actual war. I would like to point out that the war is NOT pony versus pony, and that although it is likely there will be fighting scenes, there will be no blood, decapitation, accurate anatomy injuries, etc.

      2nd, although the vast majority of the main cast is the mane 6 and company, there will be a OC pony or two, and a main character OC pony that the story will largely be about. This is okay? I think this has good potential, but I'm afraid sum one will troll me for OCs ;(

      @Cheshire Cat I know the reason. It's a simple one. If you write about an OC no one has a personal connection with said OC. So no one is likely to get emotionally involved. But if an OC has a long enough story such as those found in Fallout Equestria then the reader has time to get personally involved in the OC's story and life. They become as real to the reader as the Mane 6. So short fiction about an OC usually ends up being blah. If you are focusing on an OC as a main Character you must plan an epic story to develop the character. If it's a short piece then you have to have Mane 6er's in there to create a sense of trust and knowing. I hope this helps you out.

      i am writing a fan fiction about a failed uprising in Equestria. Regarding the no gore rule, there is a civil war scene. I tried to make it non descripive and partially "cartoony" as possible. Does that stay within that rule? or is it just no general violence?

      Question 1:
      Regarding the addition of OCs,what about cross-over fanfic? The addition of OCs is almost inevitable in cross-overs.

      Question 2:
      "- mandatory => Take a new paragraph for a new character speaking".
      My fanfic has heavy dialogue in it,so instead of using:
      'Pony A said/exclamed,"This Is Sparta!"."No its Not",remarked/observed Pony B' over and over again, I've used dialogue format,sort of like:

      Pony A:.....
      Pony B:(gets up).....
      Pony A:.....
      Pony C:(looks around).....

      I included the names to prevent confusion on which character is saying what(especially if there are more than 2 characters in a conversation. The dialogue format is also for preventing a drop in the pace of action scenes(if there's any) with quick,short lines between characters. The other parts are in paragraph format as normal. Is that Ok?
