Somehow, that seems like a valid excuse for most things. Didn't take out the trash? Sorry, too busy being awesome. Forgot to do your homework? Busy being awesome. Didn't write your episode post on EqD until the very last minute? Too busy being awesome!... yeah, that only works if you're Rainbow Dash.

@Renfield These people obviously have never watched South Park.
ReplyDeleteAs punishment for their overreaction to Pony, they must watch every episode of South Park, nonstop. >:3
I expect they'll all commit suicide afterward.
(random butthurt douche) OMG! He's making fun of people who commit suicide!
*picks up baseball bat and beats douche to death* Just like the Joker and Robin!
(another douche) OMG! He's making fun of that time when the Joker beat Robin to death!
*sighs and presses the button to launch all the nukes in the world* I'm doing us all a favor. Trust me on this.
At this rate I feel like the season finale could have the potential to kill me with awesomeness.
ReplyDeleteWhat sound does a pony make? RUFF RUFF! loved the insane pony :D
ReplyDeleteI am so glad I avoided the spoilers, as it meant I was surprised at the inclusion and animation of a whole other story in what I suspected was going to be a boring "reading is good and wholesome. Like bran." moral. And at the start, it was. Then it turned into, "Read a book and it'll take you places" which is far better.
ReplyDeleteDaring Do is best pony, Ahuizotl is best villain and I want fanfics of her further adventures yesterday.
You know what I liked best about this episode? It felt less frenetic, flowed better than usual. It drew me in. "The Last Roundup" and "The SSCS 6000" had great setpieces, jokes and character moments, but didn't feel whole.
@doorknobo
ReplyDeleteThis needs to be a fan-produced Flash animation, with Rainbow talking with her friends in the foreground while RD's unfortunate roommate has his fluid bags inconspicuously switched in the background.
What, no Nurse Redheart?
ReplyDeleteStill a great episode!
Why is Rainbow Dash eating gelatin?
ReplyDelete@mycutiemarkisagun
ReplyDeleteWhy the ''unable of being 'reasonably' civilized and polite'' part ?
*shrug* Meh... Nevermind.
@Parchment Scroll *Twilight bursts in* Rainbow Dash! Soylent Red is made of pony!
ReplyDelete*RD* D:
@Alondro
ReplyDeleteYou aren't the only one thinking that a few nukes here and there would help things... (of course, radiations aren't good for health, unless you're a Ghoul)...well, you know...
@Alondro
ReplyDeleteOMG! He's making fun of the nuclear holocaust!
Just watched and it was great.
ReplyDeleteI was wondering how Dash would get injured but perhaps it's best that they left it to people's imaginations. No scenario would have pleased all the bronies, and it IS a kids show after all, so they've got to keep trauma and really nasty stuff to a minimum.
BTW they got me: I was expecting the whole rolling boulder scene: nope.avi
ReplyDeletewell played writers, well played.
I liked this ep. Rainbow was very appealing in it.
ReplyDeleteBut I must agree with others here that there were a few odd production glitches. The off-model poses by Rainbow when she was trying to get rid of her friends so she could return to reading her book were a little startling. And Applejack's comment uttered without benefit of mouth movement was REALLY startling. I hate to criticize, because I realize that production deadlines are very tight for TV toons, but I hope these glitches don't appear in future eps (don't animation companies have animation checkers that look out for errors like the aforementioned unintentional ventriloquist act?)
This was by no means a bad episode. But I'd have to say it was my least favorite of the season so far. *sorry*
This episode was so awesome! I never expected that the majority of episode will be spend going over the event of the book. However, it worked very well and every time Rainbow was forced back in the real world was so funny. And we've got to see the parody of all action movie cliches ever made.
ReplyDeleteI believe it was the first time we've seen Rainbow's house, right?
I never really expected to see continuity from the last episode preserved, though Rarity taking revenge on Dash would have been fun.
And another small nitpicking - why couldn't they make a small scene with Scootaloo visiting Dash in the hospital? WHY?! If they did, this episode would have broken awesomeness charts and be truly the best episode this season...
Still, 9.5/10 from me.
That pony at 18:22 will be screwball's sister in the fanon by the end of the week. I'd put bits on that bet if I had any.
ReplyDeleteScrew Loose is a totally fitting name for "that blue dog-pony".
ReplyDeleteAnd here is where I link the relevant clip.

P.D.: Second Best after Rarity =D
2 Squees in one episode. Amazing.
ReplyDeleteWhen he says second best. He actually means second worst.
ReplyDeletePersonally I'm a fan of Loose Screw or Screw Loose for the barking pony. I thought of the name myself as soon as I saw the cutie mark while watching the episode, and I see others have come to the same name themselves.
ReplyDeleteIt may be pretty much a straight description of the cutie mark, but then again, most ponies' names are. It may not be three syllables, but then again, not all background ponies' names are (see Lyra/Heartstrings or Bon-Bon). Furthermore, Barking Mad just sounds way too straightforward. Like... "It's a mad pony. And it barks. Barking Mad." Doesn't sound so much like a name as a description to me.
Loose Screw/Screw Loose just sounds better to me.
Not many of this seasons episodes have lived up to my expectations. This one, however, did. I loved everything about it. Rainbow Dash is forever best pony.
ReplyDeleteThat was a great episode, I am interested in who voiced Daring Do.
ReplyDelete@Mist Skye I think it was still Ashleigh Ball, just with a slightly different voice.
ReplyDelete@Unknown
ReplyDeleteRule of thumb with this show, it's Tabitha St. Germaine until proven otherwise.
Traditionally good, nothing mind-boggling, but nevertheless good.
ReplyDeleteREAD A BOOK.
What's better to use than good ol' Indy for an incentive to read?
@Parchment Scroll
ReplyDeleteHaha, great point!
Pony cannibalism is canon!
@Cybearg
ReplyDeleteI'll just assume...nay, I MUST assume that it had to have been some sort of vegan, non-"powdered-bone-slime" variety of gelatin. My sanity may well depend on it! o.o
I loved this episode.. I smiled most of the way through it.
ReplyDeleteLMAO at the barking pony...Would have laughed harder if her cutie mark was three nuts...
Now to crack open another beer and watch it again..Cheers!
LOVED this episode! One of my favourites of this season! There is just SOO much D'aww worthy Rainbow Dash in this episode, that I had to take a couple good screenshots and do a dual-monitor background entirely of Daring Do, and RD hugging her book on the bed. ^.^
ReplyDelete@DPV111 Yes!!! someone else noticed normally I don't go out looking for such things but those were kind of obvious. Still one of my favorite episodes of all time.
ReplyDeleteIt's funny that I haven't seen anyone mention how Dash seems to have been taking lessons from Pinkie Pie. After sneaking into the hospital, she was popping up between the different potted plants without crossing the space between them.
ReplyDeleteMy main problem with this episode was that I was laughing too much and kept missing bits, and had to keep rewinding. Loved Barking Mad pony; really loved the trap that had not just spikes, but spikes ... with spiders on.
ReplyDeleteIs this the first time we've been shown a clock with twelve divisions on the dial? I think every other clock we've seen has had a dial with eight divisions.
The barking pony was, I think, a callback to the pony we saw briefly during S2E2, who we called "screw ball"
ReplyDeletePerhaps the ponies are one and the same, and Screw Ball was just discord-ed/empowered?
First Pinkie Pie, then Diamond Tiara, and now Loose Screw? (That's the name I've heard)
ReplyDeleteIt's official: Ponies are evolved from dogs.
BTW, this is now the episode that begat a wave of Daring Do fanfics.
Great episode.
ReplyDeleteDaring-Do and the Griffon's Goblet, so gonna write that!
Wave of Daring-Do fanfics? Bringt it on!
Everypony knows that Redheart is best nurse. Not even cameo Redheart in hospital episode? I am disappoint.

In regards to gelatin... it doesn't seem to be sourced from horses so often. It could be one of the reasons they keep pigs. :p
ReplyDeleteThere are a number of gelatinous textured alternatives that are vegan friendly:
Agar, Carrageenan, Pectin, Konjac, Arrow Root, Guar Gum, Xanthan Gum and Kudzu.
Another thing about gelatin I just learned... It is something people will feed to horses in order to promote stronger hooves or hoof growth, as well as help with joint problems. >_>
ReplyDeleteThere are vegan options as well though, so it could go either way as suits folk: vegan ponies or omnivore ponies!
( @Mike )
ReplyDeleteIT BEGINS:
@Jay
@Stephen
ReplyDeleteDon't worry: it could be a tofu/seaweed-derived substance.
saw this yesterday morning.. It was the first time I saw an episode on a tv... And it was pretty fantastic<3
ReplyDeleteHahaha Burgler Dash looks soo much like a kitteh...
ReplyDeleteSo, anypony else wanna see more Daring Do stories?
ReplyDeleteCUE FANFICS!
@CurryKatsu Daring Do was voiced by Chiara Zanni. I'd know that voice anywhere! :)
ReplyDelete@Mist Skye It was Chiara Zanni. I'm a huge fan of hers and squealed when I heard it! :P
ReplyDeleteComing in kinda late but my thoughts concerning this episode centered around wondering how long until we get the "fanfic in a fanfic" with Rainbow Dash writing self-insert Daring Do fics.
ReplyDeleteNot the greatest episode but still enjoyable; References aplenty: Spiderman, The Great Escape & Raiders of the Lost Ark
ReplyDeletedid anyone else think of cupcakes wehn reading the title
ReplyDeleteThe sun temple worked as a moon cannon. ^^
ReplyDeleteI liked the Indy references in this episode. Though I kinda wish they did a better paraody of the scene where Indy put a weight on that switch.
ReplyDeleteAwesome episode. Dash swallowing her pride and giving the book and chance and then finally admitting what she had done at the end proved she's a much better person than I am in that regard, which was slightly depressing. I loved the incredibly cliché action movie story; ancient temples, a villain with cheesy James Bond dialogue, all great stuff. Dash's little stint as a ninja was also amusing, and that barking pony at the end cracked me up. It's almost enough to compensate for Mare Do Well.
ReplyDeleteAlso, Twilight appears to agree with me that Dash suffers from a massive WIS penalty rather than an INT one, speaking in DnD terms :P.
Great episode! Loved it! The Spiderman reference made me giggle but as a huge Indiana Jones fan, I have to say that the adventure of Daring-Do was just a joy to watch. And when the snakes came out, I was totally expecting the "Why did it have to be snakes?!" line. A bit disappointed it wasn't there, but that is okay! :)
ReplyDeletedid anypony see that RD lose her mane at 09:24?
ReplyDeleteProof

ReplyDeleteI have to say that for once, I didn't cringe watching Rainbow Dash for a change (last week wasn't a problem, but in many episodes this season, and the last RD-centered ep, it was). One of the biggest complaints this season has been that she's been the least likable main cast member of the season to me, and this is a better episode than "The Mysterious Mare Do Well". It was great to see RD get into reading, which is important. Her athleticism is her greatest strength, and for some folks, people frown and feel embarrassed when seen reading...it does happen. To see her really get into the Daring-Do story was really nice and well executed. Also, I was really afraid it was going to be another "Spike-free" episode. I'll mention him some more after this review, but I did appreciate the scene with him. I was sort of hoping to see more than one story for some reason, instead of just one, but the one story RD did read was really nice. Even though it's not my favorite, I'd rank this in the middle of the pack this season, closer to the top episodes.
ReplyDelete------
Okay, I don't know if it's fine to mention this here or elsewhere, but there are a few things about Spike that have bothered me this season and in most episodes after Hearth's Warming Eve. I realize that there will be times where main characters will not appear on an episode, or get little exposure from time to time. The first thing I want to mention is that I've not been too happy with the timing of Spike's absences (except for Family Appreciation Day), especially in "Sweet and Elite" and "The Last Roundup". It's like they make him look as if he doesn't care to hang with his friends at moments, when I thought it would be appropriate. I also haven't been happy with the lack of appearances in the episodes that have aired in 2012 so far. I was satisfied with how he was handed for most of the first third of this season. Now, it feels like he's slowly being erased from the show, and as if something is missing. Is this going to continue, or is this a temporary trend? I don't mean to sound like a downer, it's just when one of the primary characters that happens to be one of my favorites on the show have seen very little time lately, it becomes more difficult for me to get interested in the new episodes. I want to believe they're setting him up for bigger moments later on in the season, but we'll have to wait and see. I'm not angry at any of the creative team at all. I think they're doing the best that they can. I'm just concerned, that's all.
I guess I feel just as concerned as some of the big Fluttershy fans that have been hungry to see more of her this season, since she's not had too many moments herself. Thankfully, she'll finally get an episode that focuses more on her soon.
The temple-makers were more anal-retentive than Twilight.
ReplyDeleteWho puts that many traps in a temple?
jeez, by that last shot of Dashie's bedroom, weather pony must be a pretty well paying gig.
ReplyDeleteOkay, so now that we've figured out who voiced Daring Do, what about the doctor? I'm about 80% sure it was Paul Tompkins, but I can't find confirmation anywhere. Help me, please! this is driving me crazy.
ReplyDeletewhy pay for a 720p drm protected episode
ReplyDeletewhen you can watch a unprotected 1080p stream for free...
this attitude is exactly why megaupload got taken down
*next episode*
ReplyDeleteawwww horse feathers =x here come the clop fics
D=
@LunaNMM
ReplyDeleteYou could say that about any episode, really.
I wish Hasbro would put the episodes up in an advertisement supported format. While I might not have any extra money to pay for the episode itself (nevermind the fact that I feel iTunes is an intrusive program), if I needed to buy something like a beverage, I would pick Brand A over Brand B if Brand A was sponsoring my pony fix.
ReplyDeleteThe episode was not as great as The Mysterious Mare Do Well.
ReplyDelete@Nova25
ReplyDeleteSURRENDER DOROTHY
@Nova25
....I refer you to my Super Bowl thread comment about New York City.
@One Radical Dude
My Little PONY. Spike is not a PONY. Are there any Dragonys here? Anyone? No?
@pjc2.0
My question: Why go after Megaupload instead of duhhhh Rapidshare? Megaupload's heydey was already long gone. Its like busting the kid selling weed when there's a heroin kingpin down the street. Then again, that DOES sound like something the Gov't would do. Forget I said anything.
@Ulrik
ReplyDeleteYou're right! It was at least twice as great!
Hey, does anyone else notice that Apple's iTunes subscription service seem to be failing. First they nuked "The Last Roundup" now they haven't updated the series with the new episode. Has Apple stopped supporting MLP?
ReplyDeleteThe videos on YouTube have been taken down. :( I was just about to watch it.
ReplyDeleteiTunes why you no have the latest episode two days later?!
ReplyDeleteThe fact that "The Last Roundup" is still missing and now this new episode still hasn't shown up means something is wrong.
ReplyDeleteThis worries me.
@Doombah
ReplyDeleteYou can still watch it on dailymotion.com. Look for the user "MyLittlePonyVideos". :)
they should make an episode for daring doo and the griffons gauntlet.
ReplyDeletethey should should make an episode for daring doo and the griffins gauntlet

ReplyDeleteC'mon iTunes once you get it, The Privateers Lagoon will have it.

ReplyDeleteI'm perfectly fine, if you don't like the character at all. What I don't appreciate is snarky comments, like the one you made here. Whether you like or dislike Spike, he is part of the Friendship is Magic, and there are people that appreciate him (even if he's not a favorite, like Twilight, Rainbow Dash, or even Derpy). Just because he is a dragon doesn't mean he or any other non-pony characters can't be part of the show. Where's the love and tolerance?
Daring do to the big screen!
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kxnAew2wn-w
coming soon on your local cinema.
@Teebs
ReplyDeleteActually, this episode ruins my idea for Derpy and Ditzy to have a younger sister on the Wonderbolts named Daring Doo...
...Then again, Dash's new love of reading would work well if I wanted to make "Pegastars, Pony Protectors of the Cosmos" into a Poniverse comic book.
@TRice01
Sister of Peppermint Twist?
@Casubon
But it's the phonics man, the phonics are THE!
WORST!
POSSIBLE!!
THING!!!
@Flutterfan
Uh, Flutterfan, Indian Jones is actually based on the pretty prolific pulp adventure novel genre...
@autobotgodzilla
Indeed, notice that Ashleigh Ball does Daring's voice similar, but not quite the same, as Dash's.
@mycutiemarkisagun
Dude, the Battleship movie is still going to make more money then Citizen Kane, if only because people will pay opening weekend to see what the FRACK a Battleship movie actually is.
Anywho, did anyone notice that Daring escaped the final trap with a Hat-trick? *Rimshot*
Also, for some reason I can't shake the feeling that the Mental Patient Pony was once a Psychiatrist who one day saw a vision of strange, short faced ape-like creatures with long, slender limbs.
@One Radical Dude
ReplyDeleteThe thing is, the idea that Spike is being "phased out" based on a lack of appearance in episodes in which he had no bearing on the plot is kind of way out there. Spike hasn't been any less important in season two than he was in season one, and it's safe to say he's here to stay.
@Silfir There is actually massive anti-dragon sentiment, triggered by Skyrim fanatics, who seek global dragon genocide! D: *looks at Earth and notices... there are no dragons...* I-I'm too late. :C
ReplyDeleteYoutube links are down, claimed by Hasbro
ReplyDeleteSo? He'll be back next week. They've stopped him for about ten seconds.
ReplyDelete@Silfir
ReplyDeleteYou're right. I need to have more faith in the crew, even though they're doing well for the most part.
hasbro Erase the video
ReplyDeleteWhy isn't Read it and Weep on the iTunes store yet? It's been almost four days already.
ReplyDeleteMediocre.
ReplyDelete1. no interaction between characters
2. human hospitals and technology
3. indiana jones sequences instead of genuine plot
4. simple, obvious message
5. compare s01e16 and s02e16.
worst episode along with baby cakes.
Youtube links are down by copyright infringement.
ReplyDeletethere was a 4th wall broken: http://youtu.be/Vw__J8jMLv8
ReplyDelete"2. human hospitals and technology"
ReplyDeleteWhat? Are you familiar with MLP in general? MLP has ALWAYS had human level hospitals and technology.
And comparing season 1 and season 2? "obvious message"? You're one of THOSE nitpicking, hypercritical, 'compare everything' fans aren't you?
Oh look the youtube videos are taken down AGAIN. How dandy.
ReplyDeleteBoth youtube vids have been taken down. ;n;
ReplyDelete@Shippoyasha
ReplyDeleteI'm more concerned about point 1 and 3.
FIM entertains me more with Pinkies weird aerial bicycle and firefly lamps rather than regular, human-like hospitals.
The message "reading is cool", and the whole plot is predictable right from the start.
I think comparison between 2 seasons is reasonable, when the season hits 16th episode. I'm not gonna scream OMG BEST EPISODE EVAR just because it has ponies in it. The episode is weak. The series shines when it develops more than 1 character, like in se01e16, with FS "learning" to be assertive, Rarity's showing off and so on.
If you think that ANY criticism is hyperciticism - its not my problem. 99% of comments are overly positive about any episode. I think that the series could use some ever-active polls here.
No character interactions? Am I the only one who listened to the final exchange between Twilight and Rainbow? Twilight has always admired Rainbow for her bravery (Feeling Pinkie Keen: "What would a brave pony like Rainbow Dash do?"). Now we know Rainbow similarly admires Twilight for her smarts, book or no. Compare that to Fall Weather Friends, and it's easy to see how their friendship has grown.
ReplyDeleteWhat exactly is a "genuine plot" to you? To me the Daring Do sequence was an exciting story in and of itself. It was important to show just how much Rainbow lost herself in the book world, too. Showing her just reading the book would have been much less effective.
The day I'm going to complain about an episode of a kid's show having a simple message is the day I'm asking to be punched in the face. Did Sonic Rainboom have a complicated message or something?
@SecondJack
ReplyDeleteI downloaded them to my desktop within five minutes of the 1080 version going up.

Seth will probably update it sooner or later. <3
@Filip
ReplyDeleteI can agree a lot of the episodes seemed more geared towards kids. I think the 'message being obvious' is a valid complaint but I think it's mostly that they could have notched up the comedy and how the story is told in more wild ways (Lesson Zero is a great example. Very obvious moral, but the actual story was total comedic mayhem).
I get your point that sometimes there seems to be way too much positive praise, but I just think it is a little much when people actually allude to how the writers may be trying to rip us off with some of these more kid friendly episodes.
We'll see I suppose. I just think it takes a few comedic gold episodes to get the flow going. Because to me that seems to be the strength of the series to begin with.
As for the technology, I think it all might pan out if they don't go as far as something like having Internet or Television. Kind of restrain it a bit kind of like how some modern steampunk or feudal-punk stories (kind of like Naruto) treats the technology. Well, at least the hospital didn't run out and use cars to chase RD out.
@Spitfire V2
ReplyDeleteDEAD!
The Privateers Lagoon has it in 1080p. Waiting patiently for the iTunes ripped 720p copy.
