• Derpy Videos: We will Miss You Derpy... / Derpy Voice Comparison / Derpy Fan Voice Smile Smile Smile

    Old image from Timothy Fay!
We have three Derpy videos in this little compilation here.

The first is a full comparison of the two voice versions, from pre-takedown "The Last Roundup" and the new version.

The second is a PMV, sadstyle.

And finally, BaldDumboRat sings Smile Smile Smile in that Derpy voice she is known for!

And of course, we still have #Savederpy doing it's thing.  If you want to join the group, head on over to this site.  Remember to take this in stride though! We still don't have a complete picture on what actually happened.  A million rumors are rolling around right now, pointing at pretty much everything.  Attacking Hasbro, or anyone else, won't solve anything.

Now go check some videos out!

1.) Derpy Voice Comparison (From The Last Roundup)
2.) [PMV] We Will Miss You Derpy...
3.) Derpy Fan Voice Sings Smile Smile Smile

My heart and soul go out to thee~

    2. Derpy singing Smile Smile Smile is beautiful and the full version is going to be even more beautiful!

    3. Today I'm reminded of an old saying: "Even if you put a sundress and cherry lip gloss on it and name it Florence, a pig is still a pig." What I'm trying to say is, even after everything that's happened to today, Derpy is still our Derpy, and nothing anyone can do can take that away from us. So cheer up, bromides. If you wake up alive tomorrow, you'll have a brand new, shiny new day to look forward to.

    4. Tom Preston has issued a third statement on his site at Deviant Art regarding Derpy:
      http://tompreston.deviantart.com/journal/The-Derpy-Issue-Part-3-287178124

It made me feel a lot better. :)

New derpy voice is just kinda boring

    8. I'm sure I was as shocked and dismayed when I found out Derpy had been altered last night, but aside from the rather hasty hack job and removing her name from the dialog, I like the Derpy that sounds less dopey.

Fellow fans, vent and let it all out. This is the time for that.

But ultimately, Derpy is eternal, and no matter what, Everybody Loves Derpy. :-)

    10. All this sad nonsense going around when the popular song is about being happy. Irony~!

    11. Find me and kill me if you want, but I actually think the new voice is great.

    12. I made a derpy video as well, a tribute:

    14. Wow so much Derpy or whoever it is now IM SO CONFUSED!!!! I want Derpy back I'm scared....

      ReplyDelete
    15. The new Derpy voice sounds, to me, like a bad imitation of Pinkie's. :(

      ReplyDelete
    16. so if they only needed to change Derpy, why does Rainbow Dash sound different?

      ReplyDelete
    17. But I must say the new voice is alright but she kinda sounds like a dumb blonde

      ReplyDelete
    18. Give me (Derp face)liberty or give me death!

      ReplyDelete
    19. Honestly all three voices I can connect to Derpy, and all sort of sound right to me. I have no preference for them. However the edited version does definitely sound like lower quality... Like they had a RD impressionist redo the lines, (why even redo them in the first place? Sure the cut might be sharp if they really wanted to remove the name, but otherwise there was nothing wrong with the rest of what she was saying.) and the delivery for Derpy's lines sound more forced. It sounds more like we are listening to a dumb blonde in a recording studio, and less like a character.

      ReplyDelete
    20. It seriously hurts me that they changed her name... Stupid bullies, always having to get their way >.<

      ReplyDelete
    21. I am now mentally unstable............................................GODDAMN TROLOLOLOLOL

      ReplyDelete
    22. I really dislike the new voice; I just don't get it. To me the new one sounds even more offensive because it really does sound like a dumb blond's voice instead of a cartoon's voice. Even RD's voice sounds... not like RD the way they had her emphasize stuff differently.

      ReplyDelete
    23. Personally I choose the original voice and design and in my own derpy little eyes there is no change. Derpy is and will always be the happy go unlucky little pony she was meant to be.

      ReplyDelete
    24. Does this we can make #DerpyShotFirst a thing? Wanted to spread #DamnYouHabsro around, but that never really caught on.

      ReplyDelete
    25. I like the new voice better... mostly because it sounds more bubbly.

      ReplyDelete
    26. why didn't they just hire bladdumborat to do derpy's voice? even if they changed her name to ditzy I think having her do the voice would be the best possible thing. Yeah I know legal issues probably but we can dream cant we?

      ReplyDelete
    27. Derpy will forever be Derpy, no matter what happens and no matter what anyone says.

#1 Yup. Glaring differences between the two. I think that's been made clear over and over in the past few hours.

#2 She may be gone from the show, but Derpy will live on. She is here to stay!

#3 I'll bet something epic is being planned for the ending. What we've got so far sounds so cheerful and perky. She's definitely not Pinkie, but she sure put a smile on my face.

      ReplyDelete
    28. @Rakshata

It was a rush job, obviously. Hasbro doesn't really do well with spur of the moment decisions, and I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that they knew it was a patch job going in, and they could plan better after they were out of the fire.

      ReplyDelete
    29. I have absolutely nothing against the song used in the second one, but I just had to mute the audio and instead play "I Will Remember You" by Sarah McLachlan.

      ReplyDelete
    30. As much as I want to rage, I (And I hope all other bronies too) will not do anything until we AT LEAST know who did this. The reason seems pretty obvious (appealing to more people), but we really cant, and DEFINITELY should not unleash our my little pony fan rage until we at least have some damn information!

      ReplyDelete
    31. Ok, I'm done worrying about this now.

We have confirmation that we'll still see Derpy WITH her Derpy eyes in future episodes.

We have plenty of existing copies of original Derpy floating around the web (not to mention the friendship express DVD)

I'm a tad dissapointed that the chances of another Derpy speaks scene are now basically nil, but who cares; we have the original shout out to us.

Derpy's not dead; she's just assuming a permanent life as an easter egg character, and that's fine, I suppose. Everyone keep making Derpy art and music (and in my case, an extensive fanfic) and we'll keep enjoying Derpy like we always did.

      Sorry for being preachy, btw.

      ReplyDelete
    32. I'm crying. I'm bucking crying. Why the hay am I crying?!?!

I never thought I'd get this much attached to Derpy in so little time...
Just in time for her to suffer all of this...
D-damn... ok, I'll... I'll better go to sleep or something. I must not cry... anymore... I'll try and cheer up, I know everything will turn ok. And my Derpy will always be the first Derpy. Derp Derp!! :'(

...please, be strong Derpy. Please don't go. Please stay...

      ReplyDelete
    33. They could be trying to pull a New Coke and spike sales of the DVD by dederping the iTunes file, but there is only so malicious one can be perceived as before it breaks down due to practicality.

      ReplyDelete
    34. Personally, I think this was a third party (Itunes maybe) freaking out and trying to do damage control. Can't really blame them, though, Hasbro's the only party in this I'd expect to handle the situation well, and that's from experience with Transfans (see TFWiki article "RUINED FOREVER").

      ReplyDelete

    37. #3. this song. it can't be a conicidence that this song can fit for derpy's name as well as pinkie's. could this have been done intentionally to prepare us for the news that was to come?

      ReplyDelete
    38. If the fandom can (at least for the most part) collectively decide to keep Derpy alive, then at the very least, she'll go back to how she was before "The Last Roundup" happened.

Also, If Derpy is still Derpy on the DVD, I'd still consider her canon.

      ReplyDelete
    39. The new voice isn't that bad, in retrospect. But the rest of it is bullcrap.

      ReplyDelete
    40. @benzoe590

Derpy is still going to pop up in the background in future episodes, there's no cause for concern.

      ReplyDelete
    41. At this point the only thing that will satisfy me is a complete explanation from Hasbro.

I have every confidence this will not happen.

      ReplyDelete
    42. Derpy = the pony that you're lookin' for in every episode
If there wont be that old Derpy that we all know, MLP:FIM wont be the same :/

      ReplyDelete
    43. i cried when it hit me that she'd been changed... i just dont know how people can see her as anything offencive... her new voice sounds more offencive to me

      ReplyDelete
    44. Guys, srsly, chill out. It's a freaking iTunes copy. The hub's still airing the original version, and by all accounts it's still the same for the DVD. We'll get our Derpy one way or another.

And for all those who are talking about how this all means that we'll never see what they had planned for Derpy... what plans? They did the line entirely as a shout to the fan base. By all accounts, the "plan" for Derpy was the same as it was at the start of the season: a where's waldo for bronies. And let's face the truth of all this bronies: we don't really WANT Derpy episodes, despite what we say. Anything the show does would only serve to eat away at our own interpretations.

I'm grateful MLP thought enough of us to give us the shout out in the first place. Beyond that, I'm just as happy to be getting time traveller twilight in a few weeks.

      ReplyDelete
    45. IF she wasn't before, I can say with complete confidence that Derpy is the face of our community.

The outpouring of love for this equine is more than enough proof of that.

      ReplyDelete
    46. I actually prefer that new voice a LOT more, that sounds more like the Derpy I pictured, and a lot closer to BDR's Derpy. Why didn't they use that voice to begin with? I bet this whole fiasco wouldn't have happened if they did.

Admittedly, the original Derpy voice does sound a little...special. This new voice makes her seem more like an innocent, absent-minded klutz. I think Tabitha thinking she was a Colt didn't help matters, since showing "Men are Idiots" on TV gets a lot less flak than showing women are, so that's maybe why she chose that voice (Don't blame her for that, though)

    48. @Toomatoisjp

Is the original actually still airing on the Hub?! I KNEW IT! This is a crappy, censored iTunes version. THey must've been told to redo that scene by Apple, who are a lot more skittish than Hasbro with stuff like this.

I'm in Malaysia so I don't get the Hub, but if reruns of "The Last Roundup" are still airing uncensored, and the DVD's intact as well, that's a good case for this being an iTunes-only problem

      ReplyDelete
    49. I bet you ten bits she's somewhere in the next episode.

She didn't die, and we're not going to make a big deal of this.

Honestly, I don't want to see a single brony even considering blaming the studio, or the Hub, or Apple, or Hasbro. We all know that this is just a band-aid to a complaint that some people had.

If you haven't read the link @Toonicorn posted, I suggest you read it.

      ReplyDelete
    50. @Toomatoisjp

iTunes or not, it still is giving a message that any biological problem and clumsiness is not acceptable.
      Only perfection is.

And that is bull, bull that must be protested and beaten down before it becomes a policy that any disability needs to be censored out of media as it "may offend" someone.

PC: And so, you must be silenced.

Hasbro: *grimaces slightly but soon returns to a solemn face*

      ReplyDelete
    52. Ok, I've come to the conclusion that the new voice isn't so bad. BUT, it could still use some improvements.

      ReplyDelete
    53. @Zearfox

      It actually only aired once.

It is, however still available on various on-demand TV services, for at least a few more days, in its original version.

    54. Whatever happen to "Love and Tolerate"

      ReplyDelete
    55. @MyBoyJ

Ok, that takes a little less weight off it, but still the DVD being intact and the original episode still available lends weight to my hypothesis that this is an iTunes edit. This is only a hypothesis, we still don't have concrete data.

At this point, we Bronies are like speculators on the NYMEX: Panicking over this issue and assuming the worst, and causing London Brent to top $125/barrel

      ReplyDelete
    56. To be honest, the DVD really doesn't factor into things. DVDs have lead time... they were likely printed and unchangeable before any of this became an issue. It makes perfect sense that the digital version would be the first to show up as altered, as it is ready for distribution almost as soon as the edits are completed. I would suspect the edited version will make it into rotation on the HUB next, and then finally on any future DVD's that might contain the episode.

There's really no way that Apple edited the episode themselves. Apple has no reason to care... they just outright reject things they don't like, and it's the responsibility of the makers to change it or not to get it approved. The most logical answer to the whole thing is that Hasbro thought these few lines from a background pony weren't in any way worth the fuss and simply changed them to wash their hands of the issue.

Making a huge deal out of it isn't going to convince anyone to expand Derpy's presence in the show. Every complaint, letter of protest, petition and the like will just reinforce the idea that she's a hot-button issue that's easier to just avoid than to deal with, regardless of which side things come down on.

All that said, I much prefer the old voice... it had a real charm to it, I thought... Not to mention that Rainbow Dash's frustration was sharper and more comic in the original. The new one doesn't bother me much, and aside from any extra lines that have already been animated for a future show, I don't expect we'll hear it much again anyway.

      ReplyDelete
    57. @Tigron

      As do I.

Sethisto, thanks for finally telling people to calm down and be civil. I hope this produces less embarrassing results than the last time the fandom freaked out over Derpy.

      ReplyDelete
    59. @CaptainDash why not blame apple? At best they're a company that feels they own everything with their logo on it despite having sold it, at worst they're the cause of this.

      ReplyDelete
    60. *sigh*

The original Derpy is better, but this is Hasbro's show, not ours. They had every right to change it, and fighting with them will only bring trouble. Just let this go, guys. Love and Tolerate. Forgive and Forget.

You may be right, but then you've got this situation of darned if you do and if you don't. I'm really bummed this ever became an issue, people are just as jumpy as ponies sometimes. And since Derpy was always a favorite of mine, it's especially lame to me. Ah well, on to videos!

    64. O man, watching these really made me feel sad. I'm really gonna miss her as she was. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be anything we can do about it. I'm sure it will get better though. ReplyDelete
    66. I will vote to save Derpy, it was a thoughtful act by Lauren and her team to make it a character selected by the fans. To change a character that people love is just wrong. Would they stop airing Bugs Bunny cartoons and rename the character, alter his appearance after his scenes of kissing guys in the lips? No they wouldn't, does he do this more than once? Yes he does, and it is fine, how is that not offensive anyway? They would not censor Mickey Mouse's darkish skin, but they would censor Jinx from Pokemon, she is offensive to blacks. If you would censor Derpy, then you will have to remove all the racism jokes and gore in other shows even adult shows needed. In South Park they have Timmy and Jimmy who are disabled and handicapped which they crack stereotypical jokes each time they appear. To get away with it, Trey Parker and Matt Stone have the characters pretend they aren't laughing at them, but it is more than obvious they were tying to mock them. The show revolves around satire comedy there is no way anyone could be that foolish to believe they were not making a joke out of Jimmy and Timmy. This new edit is a bitch-smack to the fans, Hasbro telling us we don't care what you guys want, we sell you buy, you watch we air. I am for full-support for #SaveDerpy, and am looking to celebrate Derpy Day on March 1st. Hasbro, you are on thin ice with us at this point.

      ReplyDelete
    67. Let me say that out of all of this, I can at least accept a new voice for Derpy, even though this instance wasn't a good vocal PERFORMANCE. In this case, I was okay with it up until she asked if she could help Rainbow Dash out of the hole.

Although, even though I can accept the new voice... I still prefer the old one. It had a unique charm to it that the new one just doesn't have. Who cares if it sounded... er... right. It just helps make Ponyville a more relatable and diverse society.

But, that's just two more cents on my part.

I think this is the first time I've genuinely smiled ever since hearing the depressing news about the censorship. BaldDumboRat, I don't know if you read these comments, but thank you. I think I really needed to hear those lyrics in Derpy's voice.

    70. Well, I'm not mad at Hasbro...I'm just pissed at political correctness in general. There's a reason why cartoons don't take risks anymore. Whiny people cry foul, and then things like this happen. Derpy will always have a place here in the community.

    73. Can we stop the "Derpy is dead." kind of language? Derpy simply lost her footing (pun intended) in canon. Also, don't give up hope on trying to convince Hasbro, just do it in a polite way, recognizing the lack of explanation.

Some suggest that Hasbro is being sued, which would explain why they might removing Derpy (a move which decreases their potential profits) and why Hasbro is being so quiet about the issue. In this case, finger-pointing is pointless, as we don't know who the plaintiff is, the exact nature of the lawsuit, or whether Hasbro has received a court order to temporarily change the episode.

So please, continue to email Hasbro, but do so while offering your support; remember, Hasbro wants to keep Derpy, just imagine how much money they could make if they rolled out a Derpy toy line. They're under a lot of pressure, and all we can do is offer our support and inform them that the Brony community is still with them.

And, as the article mentions, check out http://www.savederpy.com/petition/

      ReplyDelete
    75. People... stop threatening Hasbro. It's ridiculous.

Statements like that do absolutely nothing. Hasbro is a giant corporation selling some of the most popular toys in the world; at the end of the day, they're more interested in what sells than what makes us happy. The fact is, we make up a small percentage of their overall gross. It's sad, but it's true. They're focused on children, and if just one mother (or troll posing as a mother, as I suspect) found Derpy to be offensive, they're going to censor the living bejeesus out of her to avoid that mother telling other mothers to boycott their toys. They don't want to lose the meat-and-potatoes of their sales.

It sucks that Derpy was changed; in fact, it makes me angry. However, saying, "Oh, we're so disappointed in you Hasbro", or, "We won't buy your toys, Hasbro", really amounts to jack. They don't care. It would be a fringe within a fringe threatening to not buy the products of a group that is populated by what one would consider to be the top 1%. As the 99%, our complaints don't ultimately mean much to them.

It's amazing that they even acknowledge the fandom, but we have to pick and choose our battles. As much as I hold Derpy near and dear to me, this isn't that battle. That time will come when they try to shift characters, or transfer to a new generation. Only then will we truly unleash our collective voice. Until then, let's not try to create a close relationship with Hasbro over something so turbulent and fueled by emotion. This fandom is about love and tolerance. Let's demonstrate that. However, sending polite letters inquiring the change in Derpy DOES fall under this, so if you do want to pick this battle, let's be civil and not use phrases that imply some type of threat.

      Make Celestia proud. :)

    79. @Apollo-kun TL/Read anyway. You make valid points all the way through, but let's also be careful not to confuse Hasbro the corporation with Hub the broadcasters with Lauren the original creator with MLP animators, etc. So freaking much goes into this, some of these people clearly give a flip about us somewhere up the ladder. :D We are really blessed as a fandom to have so much attention, in any case. :3

      ReplyDelete
    80. First off, I don't think that it was political correctness that changed Derpy. I think it was more a legal issue like some lawyer saying "What if the guy who coined the name Derpy sues". It seems to me like they're just covering their butt.
Seccond, I don't see this as being an edit done by Apple. Apple could get sued by editing someone elses productions. This had to be Hasbro. This show is THEIR property. I doubt they would let anyone else but their own people touch it.
That said, the audio quality and the voice acting in the new version really stands out from the rest of the video like they used a crappy mic or didn't adjust the EQ properly. Add to that the voice actors were kind of wooden and Rainbow Dash sounds off. I would expect better quality from a re-edit.

      ReplyDelete
    81. Threaten all the things! GET THE TORCHES AND PITCHFORKS!

At least, keep them close at hand so we can march when the real perps are brought to light. Be it lawsuit, or if we can find these trolls and 'concerned' parents who don't do a damn thing to really raise their kids, THEN we can stampede THEM.

Wait to see if it's Hasbro, don't attack them just yet.

And those of you defending Hasbro, remember, Studio B =/= all of Hasbro. Our pony team's wishes is not the corp's.

      ReplyDelete
    82. @Scott Muir 1) I'm pretty sure this whole mess is because people sent letters in complaining about derpy, some brony, some parents.

      2) It's definitely Hasbro's edit, I'm pretty confident that's still Ashleigh Ball doing RD in that bit, and I doubt Apple would bring her in to do an edit like this.

      3) It sounds different largely because the VA's are re-doing it so much later. It's like finding an old piece you wrote and stumbling when you try and read it, You won't get the original flow you intended as time goes on.

      ReplyDelete

Who the hay is Tom Preston, cause unless he's from DHX/Studio B, or he's from hasbro, posting his journal up here don't mean jack. I noticed some BrentalFloss stuff on his page, and as far as I know... He's just another one of the masses of internet celebrities...

If that's the case, I'd appreciate you ADMIT SO, because you pass off his words like they were the word of freaking God or something.

The words of internet celebrities are meaningless. The only words i want to hear, are from the studio, or the parent company. Everything else is just more chatter and is no more or less meaningful than anything we are saying here.

I just shared this statement on the Linked DA Journal that you suggested we all go to. It's directed at this Tom Preston character. I stand by what I said.

      ***NOTE***
I directed this at HIM, so it's typed as a direct address, so no one is confused, this is speaking to a person on DA. I wanted to share my ideas here too... but I'm too tired to retype them, so have some copypasta.

"First? Who are you? You're not with Hasbro, Apple, DHX/Studio B? Are you?
If that's the case, that you are not, then the simple fact of the matter, is your voice is no different than the other voices out there, and as such, caries no special meaning. Peopel are dropping your name like it is important. I've looked briefly in your front page to see if you have ties to the companies in question. I don't see it, and therefore, I have lowered your voice to teh same level as the drone of all the other masses, no different than my own, or every other comment here.

Second. I don't agree. Stagnation is a BAD habit that the modern world has taught the masses. It keeps people in order, while the heads of state and business do as they wish. I simply can not agree with your statement, as you seem to be equally uninformed... Worst of all, is the belief that Apple even COULD have altered the episode on their own or without Hasbro's OK. It'd be a violation of the license to alter or modify the program and sell it as the original work. All the iTunes system is, is a digital submission service. Hasbro submits the episode with a release date. Apple skims it for content approval (matching the ratings to the content, if necessary, determining if any content violates Apple's terms of service). If Apple rejects it, or if the file is awaiting post to the store or has posted to the store and they receive a removal order from the source, then they remove it. Apple is not paying people to edit other companies shows. It's a pass fail submission process, and NOTHING more.

Suggesting what you suggested was downright absurd! I'm sorry, but Apple's iTunes store isn't a magic place where they edit your shows and movies for you with Final Cut Pro and teams of Geniuses and edit gurus. Apple doesn't pay it's employees to do that. Hasbro is the ONLY company on the planet that had the legal right to make the call to edit the episode, and the order legally had to have come from them. They own the rights... No one else could order these changes and sell it for profit, without a copyright violation and a takedown order. It would be like if Friendship is Witchcraft was offered for sale... It's tolerated as satire, under fair use laws, but if they started demanding cash... you'd see those youtube accounts disappear faster than bees after Twilight Sparkle.

I just see a bunch of misplaced idealism, and a boatload of denial."

    86. That #2 vid. This is the kind of stuff we should do to support derpy. Showing what she means to us will go so much further than throwing random hate around.

On another note, its interesting hearing both of derpy's voices together. Imo if hasbro ever lets her talk again a mix of the two would be perfect.

      ReplyDelete
    87. @Scott Muir

Thanks for also noticing the legal issues. ONLY Hasbro had the legal right to make these edits. ONLY Hasbro.

As for lawsuits... unlikely. Derp and even Derpy are very common use phrases (in internet terms) and have so much prior use in existence to all but make a copyright claim impossible. It's dang near a genericized term. The Name has already been used for charity work, and on internal studio media and content. It's been sold by WeLoveFine for a while now, and no issues have come up...

A trademark or copyright lawsuit is, I'd bet, WAY less than a 5% possibility. Probably very nearly nil.

Most logical assumption is political correctness. Consider some foreign (to the USA anyway) channels even went so far as to censor "Loser", so they may have had the plans for the alternate episode for longer than we realize, but not realized the need for it in some markets until the explosion of reactions.

I for one still am disappointed.

Playing the original "The Last Roundup" episode on The Hub, Derpy intact, would restore a LOT of my lost faith.

    88. Old Derpy sounds like she has a blocked-up nose.

    89. I also want to reiterate...

No matter how MAD you are at Hasbro... Don't stop buying the merch. If you do, then what reason will they have to release characters like Trixie, DJ-PON3, and Nightmare Moon... Or a white Celestia for that matter.

I'm FURIOUS at Hasbro... but they pay for the show I love, and even if they themselves might be a tad tarded... I would still rather pay them to support the continuation of the show... than to tell them I won't buy any of their stuff... only to find no stuff to buy and no show to enjoy.

I'll voice my complaints to Hasbro... But I won't stop supporting them financially... I want them to know that If they listen, I will still support them.

    90. If it's not broke don't fix it and Derpy was not broke

      ReplyDelete
    91. @richfiles

Imho no one should be getting mad and blaming Hasbro. They should be getting mad at all the parents and idiots who complained about Derpy being "offensive", which I would also be against. People should be happy Hasbro acknowledged the fans by putting Derpy in in the first place.

As far as I know only the episode on itunes has been altered, if so then no one should be getting mad and worked up unless all versions of the episode have been altered. What ever happened to love and tolerate?

    92. To all those saying that this was Apple's doing and not Hasbro's: Sabrina Alberghetti already confirmed on her DA that DHX made the changes at the instruction of Hasbro.

      ReplyDelete
    94. Well, it ain't surprising, sadly... if only people could just lighten up and stop acting offended... well, I guess this is why we can't have nice things

      ReplyDelete
    95. I don't mind the change in Derpy's voice so much as I mind that they took out her name.

      Both voices are good.

      ReplyDelete
    96. Ugh... I'm sorry, but I can't STAND Derpy's new voice. But heaven forbid we offend 2% of America's population huh? Your country can really suck sometimes guys. :(

I reject new-Derpy voice as canon. I will stick with the dopier one thanks.

      ReplyDelete
    97. For those that don't like Derpy's new voice, just listen to it enough times and you'll get use to it. This happens with lots of things.

    100. Okay, so apparently not everypony got the edited version. I bought both seasons on itunes two nights ago. (right after they put the episode back). They downloaded all night and I put them on my ipod last evening. Last night I finally looked at 'TLR' on my ipod. This morning I checked the HD version on my computer to be sure. Guess what? I have the *real* Derpy, name and all. Guess I'm one lucky mother*yay*er. You can bet your *yay* I'm backing it up somewhere safe, though, in case Apple decides to pull some kind of stunt like replacing it later.

      ReplyDelete
    101. Ya know, personally, I like the new voice better. I DO NOT LIKE that they "fixed" her eyes, but you can kinda see that this might lend credence to the fanon that she can occasionally straighten her eyes. If you watch, there are several spots where her eyes are still the Derpy eyes we all know and love.

I also think it is total F'ING BS that they took her name out. That is my biggest sticking point of the whole ordeal.

Coming in close second is how they made me wait extra weeks to have this episode on my iTunes. :(

      ReplyDelete
    102. @Pencils

I agree that the entire concept of censoring any type of content, particularly in the name of political correctness, is bull... but just look at the reaction. People are about ready to go to war over an itunes copy when they know the full one is available elsewhere. I'd imagine that it's less "we want to censor this, YAR!" from Apple so much as "We'd rather not deal with this whole issue"

Again, this is an iTunes copy. Hasbro hasn't banned the original video, nor have they pulled the same change on the dvd (as far as I know anyway). If Apple doesn't want to be involved, we need to respect that.

      ReplyDelete
    103. Deeply is bet pony! Plus they F*CKED up Derpy!

      ReplyDelete
    104. I like the new voice. For me, it backs just a hair away from sad mental handicap and right into pleasantly feather brained.

She's still everybrony's muffin obsessed, clumsy, not-so-clever pony, but with that voice there is no limit how much she can get on Rainbow's nerves. That makes her more usable character without making Rainbow look like a horrible person. I cant wait to see Pinkie and Derby interacting.

    105. @Beatfox
To all those saying that this was Hasbro's doing and not Apple's: What Sabrina Alberghetti confirmed on her DA was only that DHX got their orders from Hasbro. That does not clash with any other information available.
DHX is not employed by Apple. Apple does business with Hasbro directly.

So Apple give their terms and conditions to Hasbro, then Hasbro gives instructions to DHX. That's how the chain of command works.

Now can we put this strange conspiracy rumor to rest? None of these details really matter anyway, unless you're more interested in pointing fingers and holding grudges than you are in watching ponies.

      ReplyDelete
    106. You know... I feel like, the worst thing in all this is in fact those going completely crazy and almost emo-like...

I mean, some videos are fine... but, when you are making a ''funeral march''-like video, that's starting to go way passed 'annoying'.

      ReplyDelete
    107. All things said, I'm going to miss the original. It was like a milestone stating that the fandom had an influence on the show.

Though we the fans still have a major influence, the changing of Derpy hurts a little. Kind of like a slap in the face. But I suppose if their target audience was offended by the character, it makes sense to change it (although, children would have only seen Derpy as a goofy, slightly dumb pony instead of mentally handicapped).

      ReplyDelete
    108. Even if she were perceived as mentally handicapped, what's the big deal? Does "politcally-correct" mean trying to pretend those people don't exist? If you take the realism out of the show, what does it become, a silly "Once upon a time" where nothing of real import happens?

"Yay" for a white-washed Equestria, where nothing at all could possibly be wrong with a pony! Diabolical plans to spread eternal night; just a jealous pony, nothing bad could have come of that... Dumb pony, breaks everything; CUT! couldn't possibly allow that, an unfixable reality in the pony's personality, impossible! Rarity? A stuck-up fashionista more concerned with her hair than your well-being? No, she's just a "little self-centered".

Anyway, that said, it's sad that they would feel it necessary to pull something, contradictory to some of the viewers -- I kinda thought the point of tv shows was to attract viewers? As @Bernie Black If it did offend the target audience, but presuming to know whether it would offend them?

      ReplyDelete
    109. *personality = behavior, I was simply referring to the frequent "I don't know what went wrong", where in she isn't trying to cause trouble, but somehow manages too. It's just part of who Derpy is.

      ReplyDelete
    110. @Bronyhub Unless it's Discord's hand. Then bite it ferociously! Cuz he's a big mean meanie pants and deserves it!

      ReplyDelete
    114. I bought the episode before Derpy got censored. So I have the old Derpy before someone became bucking stupid and complained about it. Why is Derpy only censored? Patrick star is clearly retarded, Ed is clearly retarded, homer simpson is more than retarded! The only reason we were targeted is because we reject the status quo. Well to that I say nay! I'm putting my hoof down. We find this hater and eliminate them.

      ReplyDelete
    115. I can't believe no one has mentioned "Forrest Gump", that movie about a mentally disabled character WHICH WON THE ACADEMY AWARD FOR BEST PICTURE IN 2004!

Derpy could have been Equestria's Forrest, a child-like, innocent pony who accomplishes great things simply because of her inherent goodness.

      ReplyDelete
    116. They took an original character and dummed her into a stock stereotype. :/

      Thanks Hasbro, thanks alot. -_-

      ReplyDelete
    117. I am not sure how anyone could think Derpy is offensive. I think Hasbro is going too far with this. I think Hasbro should focus their efforts elsewhere, like releasing quality toys that actually look the ponies. Celestia is not pink!
