All of my electronic devices are overrun by ponies, but that's about it. I know only one other person that watches the show, and that's my 30-year old sister. I tend to keep it a secret, but a very bad one, as my Facebook and YouTube channels are also, overrun by ponies. I've taken a lot of heat from some of the guys in my basketball league about it, but that was to be expected. It's cool.

But I would argue that clopping, or masturbating in general not all fantasy, in that you devote a portion of your reality to indulging your fantasy. This necessarily alters your life to a degree, particularly if it's a habit or addiction. I only speak from experience, my own and others. And from there, well, it's a person's own choice to continue or discontinue that behavior.

By calling clopping a fantasy, I meant if you're to translate that to actually, well, boning a pony, that's where it becomes a fantasy. I just went with that to correlate to the purely hypothetical decision making one would undergo when asked the whole becoming a pony question.
Personally it's just a turn on for me, not an addiction. Preferable to regular pronz 'cause I liek being different and all. eeeyup

To be honest, that doesn't really help me understand why some bronies "clop". Yes, Octavia looks lovely in that drawing, but to me it's like the loveliness of Beethoven's Für Elise or Van Gogh's The Starry Night. They're all very aesthetically pleasing works and give me some measure of happiness just viewing/listening to them, but none of them make any sort of connection with my sex drive (such as it is).
Then again, at least half of the pics that draw complaints as being "shippy" strike me as being portraits of close friendship, so I'm probably not the best judge of these matters.

ReplyDeleteI think clopping is wrong. But what point is there in trying to change somebody's opinion? Matters of sexuality derive from a person's worldview (along with everything else, but that's one spot where people stand their ground, and that's as it should be)- to explicitly try to change a person's opinion in this realm takes too much effort and attention than the internet allows. Much better to point out imperfections and make them think, like Jelfes (I think it was him, may be wrong) making an ultimatum about there being nothing wrong with clopping. If you consider it, that's not a tolerant statement, and his argument is that we're to be tolerant.
But basically, I'm done here, haha. And I'm so glad we can discuss this stuff occasionally without getting inflammatory or having our posts deleted! Little victories!

ReplyDeleteBut even though we don't really understand, it doesn't mean we can't accept it. This is something so subjective and prone to debate as why someone likes red instead of purple. Why some people like classic music over rock. It's just as big of a preference or a peculiarity (for my lack and knowledge of better words for describing this) as anything else prone to being subjective.
But at the end of the day it comes down to this; there is no harm in it. A fantasy is a fantasy, and there is no harm in a fantasy being a fantasy! Even if we don't really understand it, we can always accept it. At the end of the day, no harm is being done - and I think that's OK.

And while those comparisons you made are valid to a degree, there's still something those two don't have that this does. Their subject matter consists of music and stars. That Octavia image has an living, intelligent being and bears a relatable image so people are going to naturally formulate sexual connections. I'm sure as endeared paintings of women from the 17th century were, there were just as many onlookers who would recognise such beauty which would lead to some form of lust. You can't see that in something like Fur Elise.

Even though AppleJack is always best pony, I don't imagine that she'll be much company in a thunderstorm. She'd be too worried about her crops.
Fluttershy would need to be comforted through a heavy thunderstorm. (And that appeals to some people!)
Though Pinkie Pie might be great fun, I can't imagine being stuck with her for possibly many hours in a tight space.
Rainbow Dash would be too busy running the thunderstorm.
And being stuck with Rarity would be the Worst. Thing. Ever.
On the other hand, Twilight is flexible. She'll be both good at board games or talking about books... and being quiet if you need it. She's got a generally good head on her shoulders if there's a crisis. So she's a good choice to be with in a thunderstorm.

Better solely because it's from the artist's own dA account; that way, if someone hasn't seen it before and wants to comment on it or check out what else John Joseco has done, they're just a click away from doing either. I don't think it either supports or refutes the sexual connotations (or lack thereof) in the drawing; that sort of thing is going to be subjective anyway. We may never understand each other's reaction to this drawing (and similar ones), but I suspect we can accept it, and that's probably enough.

ReplyDeletePoint taken. I generally don't think about HOW wrong something is, just whether or not it's wrong. It isn't a life-ruiner like rape or acts of violence are. I see masturbating in general as a disservice primarily to yourself and secondarily anybody who would be negatively impacted by knowing it. As far as clopping in specific... The artists who produce the art/clopfics ARE perverting the source material, in that they're turning it into something I think it ought not turn into, and surely having a reputation for clopping isn't doing any service to bronies as a community.
So that's my reasoning behind this.

With the socks and hoodies and whatever, I think we're experimenting and inventing with pony fashion trends. If ponies really existed, this would be pretty much how it would generally evolve.
ReplyDeleteI'm actually thinking of doing this project on how pony culture and technology could've evolved from prehistoric ages. Starting with ponies joining into groups to fend themselves from predators or something all the way to the setting on MLPFiM.
Then nobody gave a shit and went off-topic, so I just decided to forget about it.
Simple fact... Some people have strong opinions on the subject of clop.

If people are offended by that type of behavior or art, and they have a forum to speak out, they are certainly likely speak out against it.
Likewise, if people enjoy that type of behavior or art, and they have a forum to speak out, they will certainly speak out in praise of it, and when others speak ill of it, they are likely to defend the thing they enjoy.
The problem is simply that this is an argument of opinions, and opinions are not likely to change. It draws out the battle, but no ground is made on either front of the "battle". It just adds pages tot eh comments.
The saving grace of this fandom, is the herd is SO calm and composed during these battles!

ReplyDeleteThat's possibly a small part of it, and I am completely aware that just because someone clops that doesn't suddenly make them into bestiality, but to me it has more to do with the fact that MLP is pretty much the height of innocence, and seeing pony porn (it's harder to avoid than you'd think when you spend so much time looking at pony related stuff) just kills that innocence for me. I see the show largely as an instrument of escapism, and I liked it because it is a good break from much of the cruder entertainment out there. For example, I love South Park, but it's nice to take a break from that sort of thing and just delve into something sweet and innocent, but clopfics (which are easier to avoid) and pony porn just seems like it's corrupting that. I'm really more upset with the people who produce the stuff than thoe general cloppers. People will be turned on by whatever turns them on (although I'd still recommend trying to avoid looking at ponies), but to think that someone actually invested time and effort into drawing that stuff . . .
Anyway, here's my rule of thumb in the creative process. I'm no artist, but I have done a bit of writing, and I like to ask myself what Lauren Faust and the rest of the production team would think of my work. Do I think they would see it as a creative expansion on the world they thought up? Or do I think they would be upset at the way I am twisting their vision. Just something for those who produce clop material to think about.

It just means you find the character's personality attractive enough to fantasize about. Now if you meet a horse in real life that can talk and has an attractive personality then I think one might also fall in love even though she/he is a real pony. I think humans base their attraction on personality more than looks. Love is a mysterious emotion that bonds us to things in unusual ways.

I'm not at all going into whether it really is disgusting or not. That's subjective. What we know for sure is that it sounds disgusting to most people. And you can't change that.

I wont even go into how selfish, cowardice and generally a huge dick move it is to your family and friends if you take your own life, but just try to imagine what that does to people around you, if you can. You or wacky have not concidered that have you? It doesn't feel nice to have a loved one kill themself. Then add to that the reason for it is something as retarded as this.

ReplyDeleteUhh, yeah. I sure "killing yourself" was figurative this whole time. None of us meant it literally. Especially, Wacky NEVER said cloppers must die. He just said he'd feel horrible if he clopped, personally. And don't distort what I said. I only said it's normal for people to WANT to die (only for a moment), not people SHOULD die. That's just horrible. There's a HUGE difference between those two. That's all I gotta say about this matter.
But then, speaking of suicide, I don't worry about anyone close to me. What the hell, a person died. They'll move on. I'll move on if someone close to me dies for any reason. Already happened twice. I know how it's like. I don't hate them, but it's shoudn't be such a BIG DEAL.
What you gotta know about death, is that the person who just died is infinitely better off than you are. Yknow, heaven and all. Mourn what? I'll mourn for everyone still alive. All I feel is envy.
BTW, did you ever think about it?What's better? Life or death? What's so great about life anyway? No matter what you do, it'll all be the same in death anyway.
Now, forget about all the religious stuff for a moment. Here is the thing. People probably just stop thinking when they die.
What's it like living? You're not happy 24/7. Most of the time, it's boredom, tedium, fatigue. Hell, we probably feel anger more often than happiness. Compared to that, wouldn't it be better to just not think or feel at all?
Now, this is all just philosophical rambling. It's all just 'what if's. I don't truly 'believe in' all this, but ya just gotta doubt some things. Something as important as this. Yet, surprisingly few people thought of the possibility.
Because, who knows? Maybe, the concept "life = good/death = bad" is all just wrong. It's something created from natural instinct after all. Just like clopping. Clopping isn't actually bad. Who's it doing harm to? No one. Yet Nature wrongly makes it a bad thing. So now, it is a bad thing. Just because people think it is.
So, what do you think? Oh wait, I didn't tell mine yet.
Well, I just think life and death you can be just as happy either way. I don't worry about dying at all. But there's just no reason to live if you don't give yourself a reason. Do you have a goal in life? I have one which I'd like to keep private. Point is, if you have no good reason to live, then don't live. Maybe 'life' isn't the MMO for you. I'm kinda giving life a try. I gave myself this goal, and I'll quit after I succeed or fail to fulfill it.
Even then, it's that at least a 100 billion people lived and died. So it's obvious that living isn't hard to do or anything. So I'll just keep living only out of... curiosity. Or because instinct makes it needlessly hard to commit suicide. Bluh. Fuck nature. Again, it's stupid to mourn someone's death. Another fuck you to nature. Where did racism come from? Nature.
