• Leaked Song Removed

I'm pretty sure the cat is out of the bag on this one anyway. We were asked to remove it, and remove we shall!

Most of the rumors point to it being a Topdraw leak, not Studio B, but until an official response pops up, its all up in the air.

I'm sure we will see the fully finished version further into the season, until then, please do not send links, as EQD will not be posting it until Daniel/The Hub say it's all clear.

    4. Let's see:

TwiPie, RarityJack, & FlutterDash = Odd Couple pairings
      Twilestia = Student/Teacher pairing
      AppleMac = Hetero Wincest
      Lunestia = Goddess Tier Wincest
      BraeJack = Kissin' Cousins
Little BraeHeart = Most Overlooked pairing
GrannySnips = Harold and Maude pairing
PeppermintSnails = DAWWW-inducing awkward geeky pairing
      ScrewPie = Redefining "crazy love"
Mayor Mare/Mrs. Cake = Ultimate MILF pairing

Personally, I like RareMac or TwiMac. E'YUP!

    12. Oh, do I love the freedom of the internet! Every one of you guys give me a reason to smile (heh, heh) every day. Thanks to all of you, I'm glad we can have this flame rigged conversations! I sincerely mean it!

I still stand for the leak, even though it's illegal and "disrespectful".

    15. Twilight and Spike have a special bond that's even portrayed in the show, and it's nice to see that. I don't know about shipping, but the two bring out the romance sometimes in the show.

Personally my problem is just the people who wish to distribute it. Once it's out it's out I know... But honestly, I would never have expected denizens from our own community to go out and infringe Hasbro's material.

      ReplyDelete
    21. @Vermillion Twilight
      somepony should do that

      ReplyDelete
    22. @Kesono
Like the ones illegally posting episodes, or illegally uploading clips, or illegally making derivative works (fanfiction/pictures/remixes)? Yeah no one infringed anything until today...

      ReplyDelete
    23. @Sheffield Makoto
I know their relationship would almost certainly never be romantic, but my mind still goes in that direction. In any case, I'd love for it to be further developed in-show some day, however that may be.

      I wouldn't say no to Spike/Applejack either, though. :P

      ReplyDelete
    24. hey now that i think about it, could this possibly be season 3 material?

because season 2 should be compelete finished already, and that song seems to be fairly unedited, just voice and a little bit of music, as alot of people are mentioning, the song isn't really 'pinkie'. and hasbro hasn't cared about anything else that has been posted so far, i think oO

not to mention that the episode synopsises that have been posten so far say nothing about a pinkie episode for the next 4 weeks...

i also remember seeing a post here on EqD about pinkie pies voice actor mentioning recording for season 3: www.equestriadaily.com/2011/09/third-season-confirmed.html

you know what? i'm getting more and more confident in this theory as i'm writting it. remember my name fellow bronys, cuz i called it first xD

      ReplyDelete
    25. @bky1701

      (Aside from clips and episodes)
Those fall under the "Creative Commons" law allowing people to create projects that are non profit as long as they also give credit to the original works.

Obviously the music clip has been stolen, and has also been uploaded ahead of the actual date. Obviously the company wouldn't be too keen on having their material escape into the public before release.

      ReplyDelete
    26. The way I see it, it doesn't matter whether you agree with leaks or not at all.

The brony community is all about love and tolerance, and if we are being asked to take something down we should be respectful and do so. Let us not forget that Hasbro and everyone else has been kind enough to let us keep posting official content and remixes without ever taking them down.

Furthermore, I don't know how likely it is someone might get in trouble, but it is even remotely possible then we should do all in our power to make sure that doesn't happen.

How? Just be neutral. Go to another post. Move on...
      ...also Flutterpie for best ship.

    27. I think you should just delete this post Seth. :/

    28. @Kesono
I think you need to talk to an actual Intellectual Property lawyer. There is a huge amount of misinformation. Derivative works are highly illegal, and there have been lawsuits over them, but they usually ignored (suing your fans is not the best business model).

      ReplyDelete
    29. Seth I'd recommend just deleting this whole blog post and delete any comments that show up elsewhere about this. This is getting really out of hand. I am really dissapoint...

    30. It says a lot about bronies that we see the people who work on this show as allies and comrades, as opposed to opponents and enemies, when it comes to situations like this.

      ReplyDelete
    31. @CoreyTehPerson

noes, people won't be able to read my season 3 theory then xD and i wanna be able to link to that comment when the song airs in S3 :D

Geeze, if you're gonna leak a song at least to it right! Don't make it mono and terribly lo-fi. Or better yet...don't leak it to start with

    35. @Flutterfan

As long as Hasbro doesn't care I wouldn't mind, good to see Daniel letting it slide under the carpet for now.

Remember, it's not really about legalities in the end. It's whether we're pissing off Hasbro or not.

    40. @moolt

Welcome to the internet. Some of us are dicks.

There's no reason to be disappointed with the community, however. The general reaction seems to be the wise one: hide the leak and hope this all blows over.

As far as crises go, it could have been worse. Much worse.

I just hope that TL;DR syndrome takes over and nopony gets to the quarter-page long linkspam. Sethisto shouldn't have to deal with that; and I think it's wise that he's not wasting his time anymore with it.

      ReplyDelete
    41. ....huh...this sure turned into a mess, kinda disappointing. People can't seem to separate respect and censorship here. I hope we can grow up and move on from this.

      ReplyDelete
    42. Not going to link it just going to discuss so possible spoilers below.

The song was ok, worse than the rest of the songs but I would chalk that up to it not being anywhere near the final version.

I also cant really imagine the song being used in the show, it sounds like something for more like a soundtrack but Im sure it would be better with some context. Im sure it would be weird to listen to winter wrap up with no context whatsoever.

      ReplyDelete
    43. So...anyone here for Vinyl/Fluttershy?

      ReplyDelete
    44. @The T Man Not to worry, if the song has no context, the fandom will eventually make it. E.g. Derpy, Lyra, Bon Bon, Octavia, Vinyl... i could go on, and on, and on...

      ReplyDelete
    45. it's weird though..
the song suggests pinkie singing in a huge-ass crowd. kind of like 'at the gala'. all those other ponies singing with her.

but why would she be singing a song just about smiling, and making others smile in a big crowd of people? there isn't even any.. story to the song. and it sounds kind of like she's singing to a really sad pony, trying to make it smile. but why? and there's nothing but pinkie singing. no sad pony cutting in with something, like usual.

and why is it so damn long? that never happens.

if it IS official, i have a feeling it's just for a soundtrack. it will never appear in the show.

      so, yeah.

      ReplyDelete
    57. Based on the overall quality, and the fact that it's three-and-a-half minutes long, I believe that this song WILL NOT be featured in an upcoming episode. Rather, it is my hypothesis that "Smile, Smile, Smile" by Pinkie Pie will be exclusive to an upcoming "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic" soundtrack/music album, alongside the extended opening theme that was on that Twilight Sparkle doll that EQD reported on a while ago. And when that album comes out (preferably on iTunes, but I'd be willing to get the physical copy if I had to), I shall buy it and download it's glorious-ness onto my iPod.

      ReplyDelete
    58. The song was epic, but I'm not sure where it would be inserted. It feels out of context, I guess.

    60. Awesome song. It's too bad you don't get to post it here. Also a bit pointless given that, once it's out, it's out—and even if every link is scrubbed off the site, it's still up on the web. Anyone who can't find the song knowing it's out there is probably too dumb to be using the Internet anyway.

    64. The people who are calling for this, whatever it was, I missed it, to be put back up after the company which has treated us MUCH better then any major corporation EVER treats it's fans.. kindly asks for it's removal.. are not true bronies.

Have you learned nothing from this show, or your parents, about respecting the wishes of others, even when you disagree with them? And in this case, it's not only a request but a possible legal issue too?

Seriously, you should be ashamed, and go write a friendship lesson RIGHT NOW. For everypony else; we'll see & hear whatever it was soon enough!

Heh, my opinion of a true brony would be someone who enjoys the show for what it is, and tries to adapt the shows messages into their own lives. milleniummaster18 This post here was sent out to be hurtful and it was. It is not as hurtful as having a work that has yet to be officially released stolen and passed around before its due time.

Someone is more than likely going to get in trouble for this incident. Again I would like to believe the brony fandom would band together to not let things similar to this happen, and help out if possible. I would like to believe in this community for what it was created around and upon.

I DO understand that not everypony is the same, and opinions do differ, but I don't see how enjoying something that could make anotherpony suffer negative consequences could be good.

You got to share, you got to care. Sharing isn't about stealing.

      ReplyDelete
    69. Someone on Daniel's Facebook just commented the following: "inb4 Smile was from the finale."

Just imagine it playing at the end of the last episode of MLP. Crippling depression would be imminent.

      ReplyDelete
    70. Gotta admit, we've got a unique little fandom here when a leak happens and the majority of folk agree to do the RIGHT thing...

Unfortunately, I see little point in trying to prevent a spread (aside from just plain respect). It's already on the internet, it's not coming off. For every one person who deletes their video or MP3 another 20 will end up uploading it. On the bright side, nothing points to Mr. Ingram being the one who leaked it, so the odds of him getting in any kind of trouble are astronomical.

      Also, @dissorder

As someone who listened to the song, I'm going to have to strongly disagree. Singing Telegram didn't have any "Impulsive" singing either, but it fit her perfectly in context. Same deal here; I think the song fits her personality great, but it'll probably be even better/make more sense when we see what's going on while she's singing.

      ReplyDelete
    71. @Ice Storm
How exactly is it hurtful? Really, beyond the science fiction a lot of people are using to justify their fanrage, I can't see a way.

If anyone is going to get in trouble for the leak, it isn't going to matter how successfully censored the leak is. The fact something is leaked in the first place is what the company will care about.

Also if you believe that a fandom can suppress a leak, I think you need to have a talk with the US Government. They can't keep even minor leaks under control and they have more resources than bronies by several billion times. It just isn't realistic to ask fans to suppress leaks. It won't happen, nor is it necessarily a sign of a healthy fandom. Again, it seems a bit cultish.

What is really sad now is that this song is going to be tainted by all the fanrage. I'm afraid this case and the recent flamewars around Ponyfaust 34 show a divide that is growing. People need to learn to clam down and not freak over minor events, or the fandom is going to split down the middle.

      ReplyDelete
    72. @bky
I basically agree with you and the majority here.

It could be taken as "hurtful" in many ways, the flamewars could be considered as such, but I was originally thinking of the group of people associated with the leak and whatever potential reprimands will happen to them. The harm is potentially "fandom is going to split down the middle" in your own words.

No, I do not believe the fandom can CONTAIN a leak, but I do believe that there are people out there who are flagging videos/songs and taking them down. I read in previous comments that somepony is even considering removing it from their hard drive. That is what I believe in.

      ReplyDelete
    73. Listened to it on YouTube, and yeah, it's definitely way too good to be fake. Can't wait for the Pinkie-central episode! :)

      ReplyDelete
    74. There is a reason the song is so long... It's a rough cut. When it comes to animations it's better to have a little too much to work with than too little.

If you have too long of a song it's easy to cut down to make it fit a scene versus if it's too short in which case you either have to pause it and have filler dialogue in the middle, or you have to rewrite the whole scene/song and redo rehearsals, pay VA extra, pay extra studio fees, etc.

      ReplyDelete
    75. @Ice Storm
...which is kind of a chicken and egg issue. If there was no over-reaction to the leak, there wouldn't be a divide nor flamewars, so those wouldn't be a result of the leak. Hence, the best thing to do is to shrug like Pinkie Pie in the original post and stop looking for higher moral ground.

Either ignore it or enjoy it, but raging only hurts everyone. I would hope bronies would realize that and stop trying to qualify who is and isn't one of them based on their opinions or actions, but I fear that ship has sailed.

"Love and tolerance" got lost somewhere in favor of strict adherence to some bizarre code of ethics that no one can really explain. It feels every day a bit more like the furry fandom, which is sad. MLP used to make /b/tards stop trolling to talk about pastel colored ponies, but now there is just a growing torrent of rage surrounding anything that doesn't fit the accepted.

I guess I just wish it still meant something to be a brony instead of it being like every other fan group.

      ReplyDelete
    76. @bky

Hey now! Just because this is a little setback doesn't mean we need to get all depressed. It will blow over in time.

Gimme a brohoof and let ourselves take our own advice and stop refreshing this page. I won't visit this page again.

      *Brohoofs the community*

      ReplyDelete
    77. @bky1701 It still does, it means that we like to watch a show for little girls. No fandom of this kind has grown big enough to have an impact around the world as big as we do. Yet we need to remember that we are, precisely, like every other fan group, it's what makes us human. As much as we would like for the community to be all "sugar, spice, and everything nice", it isn't. We, as individuals, need to deal with it and move on, instead of trying to blind ourselves from reality and try to cover up everything (I'm looking at you, Ice Storm, thanks for the shout out BTW). Not everypony is going to respect the "love and tolerance" clause because it's indeed the "bizarre code of ethics" that this fandom implied on its people. In fact, I would be offended if everypony followed it. Thank God for duality, it eventually toughens the fanbase for the greater good.

      ReplyDelete
    78. lol all of these comments are hilarious. Calm down guys, christ.

I didn't catch the original post, but this certainly stirred me to go looking on youtube. I can't get enough of this thing, I'm really looking forward to it's official release, but for now, it's officially my own personal cheer up song. Bravo Daniel.

      ReplyDelete
    79. @dissorder But one of the reasons Pinkie Pie got her cutie mark is because she wanted others to smile and be happy therefore made parties. The whole song is about just about that. I think it suits her pretty good ^^

      ReplyDelete
    80. Who here still thinks that MLP fans (and AdSense-whoring self-proclaimed "superfan" art-pirating site administrators) are in any way better than YouTube trolls or Westboro Baptists?

What do you MEAN it's too long?? Winter Wrapup was 3 minutes long :P

Maybe Pinkie is singing to a bunch of depressed Ponies in a Hospital! I mean maybe Nurse Redheart might be in an episode.

Or some VILLAIN caused some serious sad thing to happen like STEALING a pony's version of Christmas? or something idk. We have gotten like a Holloween special whats to say we won't get other holiday specials popping up?

Also I loved this song it has so much possibility as to what an episode could be about, and for all we know it could just be Pinkie Pie explaining what she's all about and what brings HER joy in life!

People saying this is the WORST song in the series has some series gunk in their ears or has a series case f the clefts! XB

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zW8sGbvb9wM&feature=related

Everypony the 'song' that was 'leaked' was nothing more than a video about the dangers of a ballon filled with swamp gas.

It may have been a placeholder version. We already know that the songs go through various versions before being completed since Ingram released the original version of Hop, Skip, Jump that was cut for the version used in the show.

So, while I did not get to hear this leaked song, I'd be willing to bet it won't be the final version. If it is, I'm sure there's going to be a reason for Pinkie's lack of hyper/cheery style of signing.

Well, now that I've actually listened to it, I actually think it's pretty good for what it is. I am kind of curious about what is going on that inspired Pinkie to sing it in the first place. While it is missing her hyperness, it sounds like it has her cheery personality captured pretty well.

And is it just me, or does the length of the song make anyone else wonder if the final version will be on the same level of epicness that Winter Wrap Up and At the Gala has? The song's length alone would be about 15% of the episode's duration, and only those other two songs come even close to that.

    101. @eonmaster I'm almost wondering of it has something to do with the next episode, what with the fact of applebloom getting cutiepox, her friend could get mad and pinkie, seeing this could try to sing a song to make them 'smile' and become friends again. Of course this is rather unlikely, but a person can dream XD

    102. C'mon guys , why leaking a song is so bad ? Tons of games get leaked daily , it's the same thing , or maybe worse because they lose sales , but what hasbro lose with a leaked song ? NOTHING.(I am a brony , and i appreciate and respect Daniel's work , but starting an internal flame war is too much for a leaked song.

Oh and let's not forget the music industry, tee hee.

Jay-Z's Blueprint was leaked a full month before its release...on 9/11.

ALL of those classic Lil Wayne 2007 mixtape songs were leaked from Carter 3 sessions. Mixtape DJs were bribing Weezy's studio engineers and its not like he was sober enough to realize what was happening and stop it lol so it kept happening. I think it was about 160+ leaked songs total. Dude could've released a stone cold classic triple LP if it wasn't for the leaks lol. AND a classic double LP worth of collaborative material with Juelz Santana too? ALL LEAKED TO MIXTAPES LOLOLOLOLOL

In fact, since...2006 I'd say, *EVERY* major label rap album was leaked by rip group a solid 2 weeks before its release.

Jay & Yeezy's Watch the Throne was the first big album to NOT be leaked like that in a hot minute.
