September 17th, 2011: the day of the worst nuclear meltdown to date. The meltdown was caused by drastically low water pressure, preventing sufficient amounts of water to flow through the coolant pipes in the nuclear power plant.
This event coincided with a commercial during the airing of the first episode of the second season of the cartoon My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, as the entire fanbase of the popular show for little girls (mostly grown men) went to the bathroom and flushed their toilets simultaneously.
And my birthday ends with but a shimmer of a glimpse of Season 2! How wonderful!

Don't expect the same kind of attention to detail beyond episode 1 and 2. Studio B only did the two parter, Top Hat took care of the animation for the other 24 episodes.

Okay, wow, these stain glass pictures are incredible. They're all showing different things, and the main six defeating NMM leads me to believe they all show real things. I see dragons, a gryphon looking puppet master, and different winged beasts.
Are these stories ever going to be explained, because I am beyond fascinated right now at the possibilities these can lead to.

Those stain glass windows are awesome... the one on the far right is the scene from episode 2 where the elements are blasting nightmare moon!
Also, on the left wall.. looks like maybe a griffin is using what almost looks like the CMC as puppets. Just switch the colors of the pegasus and the earth pony and it would be a perfect match.
And in the time it took me to type this out with all my distractions, I'm sure these have all been noticed several times.. ah well, who cares! Thanks again for the high res screen shot, it is amazing!

Did anyone spotted a glitch-up at the right side? It's at the top right side where you can see the blue window, but it's rendered pretty weirdly. Oh wait, hold the hooves - I'm seeing a bit of a crash there!
that strange creature in the windows, lets take a look. in the one where he is in full color, he seems to be a dissonant mishmash of different creatures.
he almost fits the description of a mythological chimera. in the one behind it with the puppetstrings, if looked closely, it seems to be that same creature above the 3 ponies. controlling them in some sort of lotus eater and/or inescapable nightmare.
then it's presumably celestia and luna "defeating it" and it looks like it is turned to stone (fits the description of discord.)"
So what I'm guessing is that:
Discord is a Chimera. he can cause hallucinations and visions to trap and control other ponies, and he was set into stone by the royal sisters before luna's rebellion.
also look at luna's horn in the window of them defeating him. is that twilight's cutie mark I see? or is that just the universal symbol for magic which twilight's mark is based off from?
I bet Discord is some kind of dragon-thing, and the princesses managed to imprison him before. When he's out, he takes control of whatever ponies he can find, hence the puppet strings and all, as well as messing up the balance of things. That's all I can get out of the windows.

Just noticed after I linked this, you can see in the larger version that Rarity appears to be wearing her element of harmony necklace (or something that looks very similar). None of the other mane 6 are wearing theirs, though.
Ok trolling aside, look at the third window on the left, it looks like ponys on puppet strings, i theorize that discord can take control of ponies. maybe thats why rainbow dash is so grey.

Middle pane on either side- what looks like a dragon with mismatched limbs. In another pane Celly and Luna turned it white. In the one behind Dash, you can see it apparently controlling ponies like marionettes...

Yes, but more interesting is that each side has the same first two stained glass images, going in opposite order. On the left side there appears to be three ponies being puppets (but encapsulated, so probably not actually physically manipulated by string, perhaps mind control) over a fire in the place of where on the right the mane 6 are defeating nightmare moon. Might be foreshadowing considering the whole grey Rainbow Dash thing.
Also, it seems a white dragon was important in the initial Luna/Celestia balance and an orange one was important in some other way later on, tho I can't quit figure out what is going on in that one.

Just like to point out that the manes on "Celestia" and "Luna" are different colors then what we saw in the story book from the pilot that had roughly the same style.

Turning to stone is traditionally gray, like Fluttershy with the cockatrice. I think that Dragon or whatever it is is or was in some way important to the Luna/Celestia balance. Perhaps it created the world or upset the balance between them causing Nightmare Moon to be.

On second thought, those odd limbs definitely man that is Discord, but I still think that Discord is actually not being imprisoned in the first pane, as it looks like that is the start, and it looks like Discord doesn't cause anything bad until the second (perhaps on the bottom those are the sun and moon, corrupted.)
If this is true, Discord is definitely responsible for Nightmare Moon, as the Discord puppetry and Nightmare Moon defeat are both in the third place.

@EvilHom3r Thats every last pony pic I found. I think they only have those gallery pics. Other than the season 2 pic, there's not too much exciting other than a few full res (but low quality) shots from some season 1 stuff. That includes the latest pic seth added. (The date on it is from Feb 1)

Also, something I have noticed that I havn't seen any comments on: in the image with them bowing to Celestia, it appears to show the solar system. Apparently it is heliocentric after all, and Equestrian!Venus has rings, and there are two Equestrian!Mercuries...very interesting and makes at least one fanfic I read (involving a human in Equestria via failed warp drive) wrong (it stated the Equestrian solar system to not be heliocentric.)

Actually I changed my mind again, the panels on the left are telling a story from farthest to nearest. I still don't think Discord is being turned to stone, maybe just having power drained (and that would then be the origin of Luna and Celestia's power over the heavens.) I definitely like the idea that Discord is Equestria's creator, while also being its worst enemy.

Already mentioned, but only once or twice so far.
I think it's a wonderful detail that the animators have included. In-universe, it shows that the Mane Six were credited with their actions in the Season One two-parter - contrary to what some people believed/feared. And are probably going to become the stuff of legends in generations to come.

I'm really impressed by the amount of detail the background artists put into this screen alone. It's great to see that the Mane 6 have their own mural, sealing their place in Equestrian history.
Discord looks like he's going to be a fun character. A creature with the looks of a dragon that has the potential (possibly) to shape shift and control ponies at will (the marionettes). I'm really excited for this.

Fascinating exercise in intelligence analysis, great to read all the interesting theories (I probably wouldn’t have even looked that close!).
My take:(assuming you can read the ‘windows’ in the direction the mane 6 appear to be traveling, ie distant to closest)
On the viewer’s left:
1: ‘Dragon thing’ controlling ponies of all types via mind control; the fire and the body attitudes suggests pain or fear as the control mechanism.
2: ‘Dragon thing’ dancing/ posing over the sun/ moon, suggesting domination/ victory.
3: ‘Dragon thing’ being defeated/ imprisoned by Luna/ Celestia.
On the viewer’s right:
1: ‘Dragon thing’ fighting/ controlled/ imprisoned by Luna/ Celestia.
2: ‘Dragon thing’ dancing/ posing over the sun/ moon, suggesting domination/ victory. Considering image R3 suggests breaking free?
3: Mane 6 defeating NMM.
Notes:
Images L2 and R2 are almost identical, as are L3/ R1.
I suspect both ‘stories’ are commemorative. Assuming the ‘dragon thing’ is Discord it could be a literal multipart entity, a shape shifter (seems more likely) or simply that it’s part of everything.
