I just can't see a statue lasting that long in one place without there being some other kind of event happening nearby that might help to awaken Discord, so I don't think we cam blame the CMC. It could of been a combination of things to awaken Discord, including the CMCs. I just love the idea of the CMCs unwittingly unleashing evil upon Equestria.

Judging from the clip, it seems they were probably getting on each others nerves for a while and it finally came to a head in front of Discord.

These are clips from the MIDDLE OF AN EPISODE. We don't get to see any buildup or context. It's ridiculous to judge the episode based on these.
This is like seeing the Spike interrogation clip from Party of One and complaining that it doesn't make sense that Pinkie would be so angry 'so suddenly' and that they're 'throwing her personality out the window'. Just relax.

So you only see a few seconds, and you automatically yell "JUMPING THE SHARK?" And you're assuming the atmosphere of the entire episode because of that same clip?
How dare they do what they always do by putting in cartoonish gags in a cartoon and having the CMC disagree like they did in the first season! Having Pinkie as a main character means the show jumped the shark before it even began!

Ooh my did anybody besides myself notice the music in that sequence? I love the creepy sense of foreboding that added to the scene, as it closed in on the Discord statue. You really get the feeling the, err, chocolate rain is about to hit the fan, you know.

'cuz it was converted and stretched prior to being uploaded to Youtube. The actual video on Yahoo! Kids is only 640x360. But I find it's better to just upload it straight, without converting in-between (which just lessens the quality all the more). Watching the original 360p clip full-screen is actually a bit better than watching a doubly transcoded, stretched 720p version of the same clip.

As for the whole Sweetie and Scoots being in Applebloom's class, there are tons of simple explanations, Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle could be in the PM class while Applebloom is in the AM class (or vice versa), or maybe Applebloom could have asked Sweetie Belle (who I assume stays with Rarity from time to time while actually living with their parents) and Scootaloo (who I am pretty sure would go to Cloudsdale) to accompany her on the field trip.

Watching this again, I found myself listening really closely to the background music.
Holy crap, Will Anderson is amazing. I can't remember any other modern cartoon I've ever said where the BGM was so perfectly matched with each scene, to the point where it alone does a better job creating tension than the actual scene does.

After watching it a few times, I really do think Discord is somehow causing the infighting between the CMC. When their argument starts getting heated, we cut back to a zoom on Discord's face. It's subtle, but I think its a good point toward Discord causing the fight.

The two-parter was always intended for season 2, not 'tacked onto it'. They worked on it at the same time they were working on season 1, so that they could have most of the same team on the crew. Jayson Thiessen says so in the interview posted recently, can't get better proof than that.

I'm leaning towards those windows being a history, not prophecy.
What I'm thinking is that the manipulation of the young is his modus operandi. And so what we have, is history repeating itself.
