EDIT: This has been confirmed by the original uploader in the comments to be a new Hub commercial aired this morning. If anyone has a higher quality link I'll throw it up.
And by small, I mean really small. That frame up there is part of only one of two shots in this commercial that feature the ponies, the other one being Celestia. The IRC guys can't identify the source of this video. Anyone got any clues? It's definitely new animation.

Playing the two clips in order back to back makes it look very much like Twilight is going to defy Celestia for whatever reason, and Celestia is entirely not amused. Dash isn't shown, and if she isn't the reason for the rebellion (recruted by the Wonderbolts, sent on a mission against the Gryphons and killed at the claws of her old friend and lover Gilda, perhaps?), she could either be on Twi's side or trying to talk some reason into her, while Rare, Shy, AJ & Pinkie are trying to stop Celestia from sending her most prized (former?) pupil to the moon.
ReplyDeleteIt would seem to be a one-sided battle, until you remember that Twilight is a unicorn, WITH a cutie mark representing a talent for magic, AND her unique special ability is to mimic other unicorns special abilities (think Twilight using Rarity's gemstone finding powers in A Dog and Pony Show, or how the first time she teleported was right after Nightmare Moon teleported the both of them), and on top of that is a voracious reader and a natural academic who's studied for years at the best school available under a freaking goddess, who may have brought her under her wing because she's actually scared the young pony's powers might run out of control and kill everyone!
The only question left to ask yourself is this:
Who's side are YOU on?
Oh dear. =P Yeah, I'm guessing that Door is nothing significant... but even if the clips didn't get me, everypony's enthusiasm is. =P

ReplyDeleteGreat to see those little clips. To tell the truth, I can't really figure out any context for those two shots. The Celestia shot is too poor resolution to tell if she's "pissed". I guess it might be because of the shape of her eye. Either way, I'm eager to find out the truth.
For some fun speculation, the Twilight shot does play like a super saiyan, and the ponies have eye "lines" that look like the anime cliche used to draw characters as happy. So maybe MLP will be doing an anime parody? :-) Celestia does make me think of "Kill Bill" for some reason.

To aid her campaign, she has enlisted the Elements of Harmony via sonicsomatic mind control, which is why they're all squinting. Rainbow Dash isn't on screen because she's already been sent out as an advance operative to destroy key Wyvern camps and villages, slaughtering entire populations in their sleep, to weaken their resolve. Also, for her defiance, Luna has been turned into that flag on the right. The one on the left is just a flag.

ReplyDeleteYou never really know a person or a character until you've seen them angry - Celestia showing the first real signs of emotion, Season 2 shall be interesting indeed.
We have the mane cast and Celestia looking ticked off and a blue glow/reflection - I'd wager she's confronting Luna. I'm going to go further out on a limb and say that it might be a dream sequence - why would the mane cast be so content behind Celestia whom looks angry? Or perhaps, knowing Luna, she made some joke/prank at Celestia's expense and the mane cast are laughing about it. There's something significant about the fact Celestia is partially blue...
Had they previously confirmed that MLP season 2 would be returning in the Fall (I recall speculation it could be airing out in January or later)? This commercial seems to state it being in the Fall pretty emphatically.

The architecture is of similar shape to that shown in the Gala (shape of the windows). Incidentally the windows also match the ruins from episode 2, which I presume is Luna's castle - the columns are in similar positions, and they even have the same vertical stripes at their base as they had in the ruins. There were about 5 or 6 columns along the length of the hallway in episode 2, and considering there are the same number in this scene, I presume we're at the end of the hallway in this shot.
You have a red carpet that is more ornate than the one from the Gala. This one has vines with heart-shaped flowers - the one from the Gala had a simple diamond trim. There are flowers adorning the columns. The tinted glass to the far left and right appear to be identical - the top is blue/yellow and the bottom blue/purple - imagery of the two sisters being opposites, much like the stained glass behind Celestia when Twilight first runs up to her at the Gala.
So we're not in the foyer of the castle, probably close to the bedrooms.
The mane 4 in the background appear to be coughing - pinkie has her hoof over her nose, AJ and Fluttershy are frowning discontently and Rarity has her mouth slightly agape. I'd normally attribute this to a strong smell or dust, but that would normally linger in the air, and there's no evidence of that here. I think the mane 4 are responding to a loud noise or wincing at large objects being moved.
The blue glow on Celestia is quite uniform and not outlined, so I presume that's a lighting effect (even her mane around her horn is tinted while the rest of her hair remains the normal colors). A similar lighting effect was used in "Boast Busters" around 4:20. In past episodes there have been mud and face mask goops, but those have always been outlined. Furthermore, the glow color matches the doors to the left and right.
Celestia is the one opening the doors. Her horn sparkles faintly and the door has the same sparkles over the surface. The light blue that appears on either side of the doors is likely Celestia's magic since the color matches the light blue magic levitating the tea cup in "A Bird in the Hoof".
So Celestia's enveloping the doors in her magic to open them.
When the doors first open, there is a glassy inner surface that is very bright but shows a bit of whats behind it. After much consideration, I don't think it's supposed to be reflective glass, I think it's an effect to emphasize how bright the light is outside the room compared with inside where the camera is. And since the inner sides of the doors are dark already, I think the room that houses the camera is quite dark.
Celestia is opening a door at the end of a well-decorated hall into a dark room with a stern look on her face.
Of all the ponies on the planet, there's only one I'd say undoubtedly would know how to tick-off Celestia, and that would be Luna. There's only one I would bank on having a dark room.
TL;DR
I think Celestia is very forcefully opening some very large/heavy doors into Luna's room.

Maybe Luna spent the entire first season locked in her room? Luna seems prone to tantrums: halting the moon in the sky when the populace sleeps through the night, abducting Celestia when Luna returns from the moon for revenge... who's to say she isn't the character that needs to do 'a little growing up'?

We might see Nightmare Moon's return (unlikely). One thing pisses me off about this commercial: NO LUNA! I fully expect Luna to become as regular as Celestia in Season 2.

So first we have Twilight doing a dramatic "mane blowing in non-existent breeze" pose. I say non existent wind because if you look carefully you can see that she is indoors right before the background changes. What has her so pumped?
Second we have a serious looking Celestia opening a door with the mane six bracing themselves behind her. I believe that Twilight and Dash are directly behind her that is why we don't see them. What is this all about?
Looking closely, the stain glass window on the right depicts what I believe to be a blue Alicorn (possibly Luna) in the lower half, so I guess that Celestia is depicted in the upper half. Seeing that they are obviously at Canterlot I guess that this might be from the Luna returns episode.
They used 20% cooler in the add which of course made it at least 20% cooler.
Season Two can't come soon enough.
