This was SO worth the wait!!! An amazing sequel! :D
ReplyDeleteI need MORE! Hope Blueblood gets owned :P
Aside from Fallout: Equestria's humor moments, this is the only story that actually makes me laugh out loud.
ReplyDeleteGlad to have K-COLT back on the air. This is gonna be sweet!
"Berry Punch: [Hiccup.] Aw, baby, why ya gotta be tha’ way?"
No words can express.
HA! I love this show!
ReplyDeleteHowever... Blueblood and Trixie... Octavia is right to be worried. Vinyl seems to have forgotten just how entertaining stupidity can be.
RE: half-hidden last page.
ReplyDeleteOnly one reasonable response.
DUN DUN DUNNNNN!
YES! Woohoo! YIPPEE!!
ReplyDeleteThe Trixie and Blueblodd Show? I'd watch it.
ReplyDelete"Octavia: Oooooh, that felt good."
ReplyDelete^My reaction after reading this.^
The only thing that worries me so far is that we are probably going to read some episodes of Prince Douche's talk show.
I'm worried because with Trixie on board that show might actually be good. (which means bad for this fic's mane characters)
Besides that I'm really (REALLY) happy to see this story updating again.
Best Christmas present EVER!
I'm kind of sad to report that I felt this was a bit lower quality than the first season. Vinyl's flirting is so frequent that it feels entirely for fan service.
ReplyDeleteI felt this first episode of season 2 was influenced too heavily by fan requests.
@Mist Skye Allow me to... disagree. I am a producer of the voice acted version of TVST. As such I saw first hand as Corey forged this new chapter and I can assure you that nothing is in this chapter that Corey didn't want to be there, fans or no. Now if you personally did not prefer the "flirty-ness" of this chapter, I can understand that. Other people probably hold the same view, and I would be a hypocrite and a fool to criticize your opinion. But to say that Corey "was influenced too heavily by fan requests" is simply wrong and defamatory. I love all bronies, and I think it is our diversity and our differences that make our fandom great. Moving forward I can only hope that we embrace our differences and avoid saying things that might hurt others feelings.

@MidnightMagicProductions
ReplyDeleteSo, what you're basically saying is that no criticism is allowed?
On a related note, I agree with @Mist Skye. I feel like, while they may have grown as friends, all this flirtation seems out-of-place if you're just making them friends. Even if it's just a coverup for something more, it still seems a bit much.
Also, maybe it's just me, but I don't really like the Blueblood dynamic going on. He isn't enough of a threat to be interesting.
YES YES YYES YEEESSS!! More Vinyl Scratch Tapes. Made my day. Please EQD, If you could contact the author, please tell him that he makes me a happy pony. and i love him
ReplyDeleteYES YES YYES YEEESSS!! More Vinyl Scratch Tapes. Made my day. Please EQD, If you could contact the author, please tell him that he makes me a happy pony. and i love him
ReplyDeleteYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteDun Dun Dunn!
ReplyDeleteOhh no! Trixie and Blueblood working together?
The main risk is the show might actually be good because it could turn out to be unintended comedy gold.
Although this is very funny, I find myself playing devil's advocate, feeling the need to point out that Vinyl and Blueblood are both repugnant in very similar ways. They both use their influence (Blueblood money and family connections, Vinyl her charisma and popularity) to screw over people they don't like. Furthermore, Vinyl hired Rover, a criminal slaver and in canon a doer of far worse things to Ponies in general and Rarity in particular than Blueblood, to work as security. This is something that has got to bite her in the ass at some point.
ReplyDeleteI can't wipe this stupid grin off of my face.
ReplyDeleteSo glad season 2 is here.
well all i have to say is OH MY GOSH season 2
ReplyDeleteAll right, the Vinyl Scratch it back. Great episode as always.
ReplyDeleteOH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD THE FIC THAT TURNED ME INTO A TAVI-SCRATCH SHIPPER IS BACK OH MY GOD
ReplyDeleteThis is likemy favourite fic ever besides progress and allegrezza and they're all my favourite really oh my god i loooove this fic!
I love this fic. It's absolutely hilarious, makes me laugh my ass off, and I can't stop laughing at the Tapes recording.
ReplyDeleteThis is just too funny, I can't stop laughing.
Thank God, it's refreshing to actually get an opportunity to read someone else's Octy and Vinyl for once! xD
ReplyDeleteAnd now, I really want to see/hear the Blueblood and Trixie Show.
ReplyDeleteBeen waiting for this ever since season two started. Glad to see its finally here :)
ReplyDeleteS2.Part 1 :
ReplyDelete>These episodes were recorded and transcribed for historical significance.
-Heh. Somehow, I think we can be sure that it’s Celestia and Luna that are behind the ‘historical conservation’ of those tapes :). They are gonna listen to them for the next thousand years ;).
>Octavia: It’s a baby dragon.
>DJ-P0n3: --compact-sized dragon!
-Not sure why, but ‘’compact-sized’’ ‘dragon’ sounds funnier that I think it should... which is not a bad thing, really. ;)
>S'cause I like ta have a good time all the time. 'Scuse me for a minute. [Takes sip of drink.]
-Oh, come on ?
I mean, yeah... everyone know Berry Punch is a ‘good drinker’, but she has a daughter now too, you know ? She knows how to moderate her consumption too, when necessary (meaning, when not working at the bar, at a party, or with friends... much less when she’s with Ruby you know)...
>Spitfire: Hey, what are friends for?
>DJ-P0n3: Exploitation of cheap labor, of course!
-She’s partially right, I must say. ;) (especially when that person has a car)
>I think we should all just admit we’re mature adults ... and blame Spitshine for all of this.
-Well, that’s really the kind of answer you can expect from Vinyl Scratch, while STILL being actually surprised to read it. Funny democracy ;).
... Ahh, the ‘’hanging up the phone as the other speak’’ trick, always classic, always funny when applied to ‘baddies’ ...
>Octavia: I blame you for corrupting me.
>DJ-P0n3: Oh, so suddenly I’m Discord or something?
-First mention/use of Season 2’s material, I see.
>leaving me disgraced, humiliated, and forced to work in the spice mines to learn “humility” or some other such gibbersh
-Was it introduced in the ‘Tape 4: Season 1’, or is it a reference to some other stories ? I can’t remember this detail, though it sounds familiar...
>Blueblood: NO WAIT! [Cough, then tries to play it cool.]
-I think we can actually see his ‘evil moustache’ falling off, as he tries to twirl it evilly-like.
... Owww, Trixie co-hosting with Blueblood, really ? I mean, Trixie isn’t ‘that bad’ of a pony... certainly less than Blueblood, at any rate ...
-----
Well, this first one was as enjoyable as the ‘’season 1’’ parts had been ; it’s a great start. I have to say though, I’m a bit... hesitant, about how Trixie will/might be ‘’played’’ here...
Also, I’m kinda hoping for another (telephonic, this one) cameo of Ditzy (and maybe even with her daughter, Dinky... that would be very adorable).
Oh dear sweet celestia how i've missed this fic!!!!
ReplyDeleteOh, dear god. The first chapter of Season 2's ending. You've left me anticipating more. Keep it up.
ReplyDeleteOh My Gosh S2 is here! Have all my squee, if you will.
ReplyDeleteI gotta, say, the VST feel as good as ever, it's just that maybe I gotta get more used to the newfound intimacy of the two (the spitfire call felt slightly awkward because of this).
But really, the whole thing was really good, and BlueBlood and Trixie... Bwhahahaha, I smell GREATNESS on the horizon! This season sure is shaping up to be epic :D Keep up the fantastic work, Corey! ^^
This were my favorite fanfictions.
ReplyDeleteThen the great and powerful trixie showed up.
Now these are my most favourite fanfics XD
It's not a fic, it's a series of radio transcripts. Love it! If I do a fic, it will just be an equestrian encyclopedia, a through c
ReplyDelete@Phishstrangler75
ReplyDeleteHuh ? This IS a story (aka: fiction/fan-fiction (pick a word) story).
The *format* of the story is to make it resemble of a ''radio show'', but it's still a story... not just a ''transcript''.
Believe me, it will be shipping when Vinyl talks about their sex life. Can I have a request DJ? Yes? I request track 34 on your Top 69. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteoh my god this is gold!!
ReplyDelete@MidnightMagicProductions
ReplyDeleteWhat you're saying is "I was there when he wrote it, so I can tell you that I read his mind and know that nothing was influenced by fans." You have no way of knowing if he was influenced by fans or not. To be honest, your opinion on the matter might be a little biased no offense, considering you work so closely with the author.
I don't appreciate your rudeness in saying I'm wrong, and insinuating that I am insulting the author, then pointing the figure back at me and accusing me of rudeness.
What I said was not rude or defamatory. I stated that I felt Vinyl's flirting felt heavily out of place, and that the quality dropped from the first season. I didn't say that it was complete garbage, or that it lost all value, just that it didn't hit the same mark as the first season.
The second thing I said is that I felt that the first episode of season 2 was influenced too heavily by fans.
@MidnightMagicProductions
ReplyDelete(Continued)
There was more than 1 reason:
1. I noticed a significant amount of spelling and grammatical mistakes, (This was on the day of the release, I'm assuming they were corrected at this point, however they should not have existed so heavily before the public release)that made for a bit of a hindered experience. His first season I saw most of the chapters were spell checked and screened far more thoroughly than this episode appeared. I'm no grammar nazi, but when I can catch 10 errors without looking for them, there's an issue.
2. Vinyl and Octavia's relationship feels FAR too fan-service to me. Vinyl's normally cool and collected "smart ass" character seems to have become the stereotypical lovesick teenager. They even break out into a love fight in the first episode. It's hinted at FAR too often that they're "together". It's like "HEY THEY'RE IN LOVE! SHIPPING POWER HOUR! WE'RE IN LOVE! HEY DID I TELL YOU WE'RE IN LOVE YET!?" Plus Vinyl's long sappy monologue feels terribly out of character, and almost unneeded. The entire chapter focused so heavily on their relationship, something that was already established in season 1, more tastefully I might add. The worst part is that since it's all been nearly beaten into our heads in the first episode, it leaves little room to go anywhere with it.
3. Blueblood's subplot, though nice and all, feels weak and unneeded. I give the author points for trying to go a different direction, but I don't feel this is the direction he should desire to go. His low popularity even with Trixie is such a hindrance to any kind of threat he would pose, that he's not even worth acknowledging as a villain. Like I said, points for effort, but none for execution.
4. My friend proposed a drinking game based on the chapter. Every time Vinyl or Octavia is quoted used "Giggle" or "Deadpan" in asterisks, take a shot. Over usage of both of those, and asterisk based actions really only make me feel like I'm reading an Role Play over MSN.
5. Where's the comedy? It's almost completely gone in this episode. It's overtaken by a ship-fest. You get one or two minor jokes, but then you're left with sappy shipping, that really is so over the top that you can't even relate to it, or enjoy it. I come for the comedy, and I have insane shipping shoved down my throat.
I NEVER post reviews with the intent to insult the author, only to offer feedback, or constructive criticism, which I did in my first review. I felt it was to the point enough that I did not have to go into detail and explain it, as I don't need to tell the author what he wrote, he knows what he wrote.
What I do not appreciate is you white-knighting for him and assuming that I have proposed an insult to him. It's really none of your business anyways; let the author defend his own work. I understand that you have a personal interest in it because you're making and adaptation, but you're still just and adaptation. Before you blatantly accuse me of rudeness and insults, perhaps you should consider your own words before typing them.
This is awesome! Laughed so hard! Keep up the good work!
ReplyDelete@Mist Skye
ReplyDeleteI'm not exactly an expert in literary critique, but to provide a second, if slightly biased, opinion, I didn't really see the reasons you gave as that big of a problem. I did catch a couple grammar errors while reading, if there were more then I believe they've been fixed.
The fic itself is more or less about the relationship between Octy and Vinyl, so some shipping is expected, and the fact it was overdone in that chapter was fairly easy for me to attribute to the fact that they're on a talk show, and are doing it for the benefit of the listeners.
The Blueblood subplot, take my opinion with a grain of salt as I'm more than eager to see any incarnation of that character turned into the universal butt-monkey, works for me simply because Blueblood, while stupid, is very rich. He likely has the resources to shut down the show if he used them correctly, and thus he is a threat, if a laughable one.
The "Giggle" and "Deadpan" bits, I can understand being annoying. However I would think (again, speaking from my steeply limited knowledge of writing) that it would be a bit difficult to express those while keeping the transcript style. It's just something that, while visually it may be unappealing, it makes sense to include.
The comedy is a great instance of "your mileage may vary." I personally found it funny, whether or not I laughed as much at that chapter compared to some of the others, I didn't keep track of. Though I personally still did find the majority of it amusing, save for the bits that weren't supposed to be.
Not to say that your points aren't valid, there are problems in the story and those five reasons do well to sum them up, but I, personally, did not feel they detracted from the story as much as you did.
Overall I liked the piece, and didn't see many problems after the first read through until they were pointed out. Though please, again, take the above with a grain of salt, I am quite biased towards the author of this towards the point of easily being blinded by faults in order to better enjoy what I'm reading.
Also, I'm looking forward to seeing more interaction between Blueblood and Trixie, they'll be an amusing pair of villains methinks!
Just read all of the ones available and hope there'll be more! Fantastic work!
ReplyDeletePub how I love this fic please don't tell me your finished! I absalotley love this I cried out of laughter when Octy punched blueblood in the face
ReplyDeleteyou should use Doctor Whooves
ReplyDeleteAwright! Speak truth to power! Princess Celestia also turned Discord to stone for a thousand years because they couldn't agree. I'm starting to notice a pattern. Better watch out, Twilight.
ReplyDeleteDo we know from canon that Vinyl Scratch is a filly? The default assumption that everypony is a filly unless otherwise stated is starting to make me feel... oppressed. Heh.
@shagbark
ReplyDeleteYou can tell from how they look.
OT: It's awesome to see this is going again! Can't wait for more!
So far so good! Looking forward to reading more.
ReplyDeleteI admit Season 2 episode 2 wasn't what I was expecting, the shipping and emotional backstories seemed as a gear shift, I wasn't laughing as much as I was in the last five episodes but then again at this point the story is at least trying to do more than just run humor non-stop.
ReplyDeleteI've seen points for and against this and I agree with some of the negatives, I'm not sure what to think of the last scene with Blueblood, is he just dissapointed or maybe he's starting to come to his senses about how others percieve him? On the other hand it seems that Trixie's attitude and actions towards him have given Blueblood a real "see how you appear to other ponies" moment. That's just speculation though and I can't wait for the next episode.
@Wilson Bennett
ReplyDeleteA correction to my last post:
It seems that Blueblood is having an out of body experience with Trixie, simply put he's found the one Pony in Equestria who has a higher opinion of themselves and even more disdain for "common" people than himself. Perhaps this is the first time he has an idea of how others percieve him and that might change him for the better.
Just speculation on my part but the final line and how Blueblood reacts to Trixie does carry that vibe. I'm surprised no one else noticed that.
Another fine episode if I do say so myself. I have to question though. Why is it I feel sorry for Blueblood right now when there is nothing about him I like. Can't wait to see if they put on a real show and not just radio studio noobish antics, which is still really funny.
ReplyDeleteNice back story with Harpo and Frederic. The show wasn't as chaotic as before but it's nice to have that change in pace now and again I think. Very enjoyable read all the same
This is one of the best fics I've read here so far involving background ponies. Love the humour, wit, and emotion in it. Cannot wait to see it on the next story update!
ReplyDeleteI smell Prixie shipping! (Prixie? Trince? Trixblood? There really aren't any good portmanteau couple names for those two.)
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I think that TrixieXBlueblood could go somewhere.
BEAUTY BASS IS BEST LOUD PONY, SHE REMINDS ME OF THAT DILBERT CHARACTER. Ahem, sorry was I talking too loud?
ReplyDeletePrince Blueblood: So impossibly cluelessly stupid and self-centered, you actually love him for it.
ReplyDeletePart of me hopes that Blueblood ends up becoming the equivalent of those Right-Wing talk-show hosts who are really popular with their demographic (which would be Canterlot/Equestrian elites) but come across as insane to those with opposing political views.
ReplyDeleteS2.Part 2 :
ReplyDelete>Trixie can fight chaos, darkness, and any other abstract concepts with one hoof tied behind her back!
-I doubt she can fight ‘Quantum Physics’. ;)
>This is the voice of one who has learned the true name of a thousand beasts.
-Ooh, ‘True Names’... reminds me of that D&d stuff.
... Defeating Dragon, cockatrice, manticore and Ursa -Minor-... I think she’s ‘’might’’ be copying stuff from the Main Cast. Maybe. (Nah, 100% sure) ...
>More clattering, followed by loud whoomph as console is engulfed in flames.]
-Heh, funny stuff catching on fire semi-randomly.
---
>you’re just messing with me, aren’t you?
>[Grinning.] When am I not?
>Octavia: Point taken.
-And this is partially why their relation is rather amusing, and makes for an enjoyable story.
>Octavia: ... are you done?
>DJ-P0n3: That depends. Have I won an acting award yet?
-I wonder if it would be a good thing, if she won one ? I mean... would that mean she would really stop ? We hope not. ;)
>one letter wanting to make a comic book where you and your ensemble drive in a van and solve mysteries.
-A Scooby Doo reference, I see. Well, those 2 would sure make a great ‘mystery solving’ team. ;)
...mmh, those 2 + the 3 members of the ‘’Ensemble’’, and you have the full group. But, who would be Scooby ? :D
>You make it sound as if I’m a slab of meat to be put on display.
-Huh... I’m pretty sure this expression should be revised to work better with the fact that it’s a pony saying it... you know, the whole vegetarian thing ? Cultural influence and all that...
>Beauty Brass: THAT’S A GOOD IDEA! IT’S always hard to ADJUST AFTER PRACTICING!
-Somehow, I think she could become good friend with Luna, for some reasons ;). Also, this pony seems pretty interesting. :)
>Octavia: Touché.
>Beauty Brass: GESUNDHEIT.
-À vos souhaits. ...wait?
>Harpo: [Whisper.] Perhaps ... I should tell it ...
-AHHH ! He can speak !
>[Beauty Brass leaps over and hugs Frédéric and Harpo.]
>Frédéric: [Trouble breathing.] Help ... me ...
-I really quite like that Brass pony. Yeah.
>Heh, I hope my story wasn’t too dull.
-Nah... a bit ‘’cheesy’’, maybe. But, ‘’cheesy’’ isn’t always bad.
---
>Are you seriously asking Trixie out
-Oh by the gods ! Please, no ! ... ... ...I’m still hoping things will go better for Trixie (even if just a bit).
-----
Hmm, ok... New part, again very enjoyable. Perfect display of who Vinyl Scratch is and/or should be... Octavia is good too... Beauty Brass is fun and refreshing ;).
I don’t really have a clear opinion on the Blueblood-Trixie thing, except that it would be quite awkward... and, while I don’t especially care about Blueblood, I’m hoping something good will come out of all this for Trixie...
I really like this story :D
ReplyDeleteEverything about it is great!
Can't wait for more. ^.^
Why did I not start reading this a million years ago when it first came out?!
ReplyDeleteTrixie gets points for style.
ReplyDeleteLacking substance, that's all she gets.
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteMy last comment was a bit emotional, so I'll try to keep it more topical this time.
ReplyDeleteMy problem with the story is that I find Vinyl extremely unlikeable; Partly because of what Octavia noted, that she only ever tears others down. The other part is that I feel the narrative desperately wants to make us like her, as the plot always always always turns so that Vinyl never really faces serious backlash for her rude and offensive behaviour.
And I also agree with @Peteman about his point.
The difference is that Vinyl, while hosting a variety of personality flaws, is still well-meaning. The vast majority of any offensive/arrogant comments she makes are almost certainly in jest- and the ones that aren't, have a different purpose behind them (see: the first interview).
ReplyDeleteVinyl's rude, certainly, but it never comes across as anything more than a personality detail- certainly nothing I'd expect karmic backlash from, especially since radio shows live or die off of wild personalities.
Sure, she'd be unpleasant to interact with off-air, but that's why the second episode exists. It's been specifically mentioned Octavia's the only friend she's had in a long time.
After reading the last chapter (something I had put off, because- well, see above), I kind of have to agree with you. She's certainly become more bearable than in earlier ones (chapter one in particular), acting more decently with ponies who weren't as mellow as Spitfire, nor give her so much leeway because of a past friendship. Perhaps Octavia is starting to rub off on her in turn?
ReplyDeleteHey guys.
ReplyDeleteSorry, but next chapter might take a little longer than anticipated.
The next chapter is an interview with Luna. Things happen. And it is ... gonna be a tad long. That's all I'm saying, haha.
Just wanted to let you all know there may be a slight delay. Thank you and have a nice day.
This is one of the best fics of all time. And it's only getting better! I've read a few of my non-brony friends the first part of this story, and they loved it. This actually inspired me to start a project of making audiobooks out of a few pony fics. We'll see if I'm ever satisfied enough with the results to actually post any of it.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, thanks a lot for all of this. Here's to the rest of this season, and hopefully some more after that, both for you, and the show!
need season 2 episode 3 NOW!!!!!!!!
ReplyDelete@Corey W. Williams
ReplyDeleteI'm loving this fic, can't wait for next part, best of luck completing it in good time.
Thank you.
My two bits. The first episode was fantastic and spot on perfect. After that, there became WAY too much pony on pony shipping and sappiness causing me to completely loose interest. This has incredible potential, but all the shipping just turned me off. I'll have to go elsewhere for my pony comedy.
ReplyDeleteThank god. Vinyl finally got what was coming to her.
ReplyDeleteCharacter development? In MY VST? :P
ReplyDeleteVinyl probably did need to be taken down a peg or two, but YEESH that was harsh...
Please don't drop the comedy Corey. That's what makes this story great.
Well... this took a turn for the interesting. Episode 4 cannot come soon enough! Maybe this season has an episode 5, or even (dare I dream) 6?
ReplyDeleteEither way, story just keeps getting better and better. I really like that you've taken to adding a bit of drama to keep it fresh. I applaud the effort, it really paid off here.
CAN'T. WAIT.
Yikes.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure what to think of this. Yes Vinyl was out of line but I can't help but have a bad feeling about this, something tells me that Vinyl's troubles are far from over.
ReplyDeleteMaybe she'll run away and Octavia will have to sort things out, honestly I'm not sure.
So far Season 2 has been interesting but I'm not exactly impressed, season 1 was hillarious and this... I'm not sure. I was one of the people partially eager for new episodes after season 1 ended and while I applaud this series for keeping the quality of writing consistent the story is starting to suffer Cerberus Syndrome, which isn't particularly welcome.
I'll still read it mostly because I can't leave things unfinished.
I kinda like the somewhat more serious tone the story is taking. And as far as the shipping goes, yeah, maybe it's a little much, but as far as Octy and Vinyl go, like every new couple, they are going to be all sappy and lovey dovey. And as far as Blueblood and Trixie, they are just now discovering things that they have in common, namely, being rejected by all the other ponies. And I would imagine if you were a very lonely pony, you would end up developing an attraction towards anypony who gave you the time of day, especially if they share the same feeling of rejection.
ReplyDeleteI dunno, maybe I'm just totally making crap up, but the shipping isn't as bad as other stories I've read. It's taking sometime for these relationships to develop rather than just BAM! WE ARE IN LOVE! And I like the character development, gives the characters some depth.
Although I do see that if one is expecting comedy, especially based on the first season, the serious tone can turn away some people. It's like ordering a plate of food and not getting what you wanted.
Okay, I was worried this might happen. What makes stuff like this entertaining is seeing the two personalities (in this case Vinyl and Octavia) bounce off each other and the various people they bring in. And they were undergoing character development pretty well too.
ReplyDeleteIf you wanted to have Vinyl taken down a peg, you could have just have Luna come in like any other guest and then call out Vinyl when she found out the she was the one who interviewed her sister.
This 'Blueblood and Trixie establishing a rival studio' thing just over-complicates things. Blueblood just isn't sympathetic or interesting enough to have him as a major rival character, while Trixie hasn't even made an appearance before. It just feels very contrived and unneeded. Plus we already know that any plot by Blueblood to challenge the studio is going to fail, since you put that disclaimer in the first chapter saying that 'the show became extremely popular even to this day', so any attempt to build tension is similarly doomed to fail.
You called this 'The Vinyl Scratch Tapes', and that's what it should be about, not 'The Vinyl Scratch Tapes' vs 'Whatever Blueblood came up with'. It should be Vinyl Scratch and Octavia doing their thing as radio hosts, and the development they go through by being exposed to each other and their guest stars. This POV switch to characters that we have no real reason to care about because you've just created them as an antagonist just breaks up the flow. If you want to write a story in which Blueblood and Trixie establish their own studio, that's fine. But this isn't the place to do it.
Sorry if it seems like I'm ranting, but I've seen a lot of other works fall into this trap. You had a good, simple thing going in the first few chapters. I think all of us readers would be a lot more interested in seeing Vinyl and Octy getting into more antics and more cameos from other characters instead of this plot by Blueblood and Trixie. I really liked this story when I first found it, and I don't want to see it get weighed down.
Give it some thought.
Practically no octavia in this one, Plus octavia didn't even get to meet Luna. also DROP BLUE BLOOD NOW, I Do not want to read a blue blood redemption story, There are fic's that are focused on that and do it much better.
ReplyDeleteI listened to the whole first season to get caught up with this. worth it..
ReplyDeleteI...Yipes. That was harsh. Anyway, I'm going to at least partially disagreed with Anthurak up there, and say that I personally like the plot that's come up. The whole interaction with Octavia and Vinyl was excellent, but I think that it would have gotten old sooner rather than later if you didn't introduce an overreaching conflict like this to provide true character development.
ReplyDeleteI do admit that the whole Blueblood thing makes it a little over complicated, but still very interesting to read.
@Anthurak
ReplyDeleteBasically what this guy said. I've been following this since day one, but I really, strongly disliked the latest chapter. You're tryign to force the "blueblood is sympathetic" angle, when there is nothing about him to sympathize. "Wha wha, everypony hates me" doesn't work when everypony has reason to hate you, having gone beyond stuck-up jerk to a felon who would still be in prison was he not a royal. And you make Luna out to be a absolute ****. We know Celly had to do what she did, but she is perfectly permitted to y'know, show emotion for having been without her beloved sister for a millennium. You're allowed to regret doing the right thing when the right thing sucks. Accept that Celly loves you and your nephew is. And Love your nephew all you want, but he /does not/ get a free pass for being a felon. The Bluxie ship is also awkward and not my cup of tea.
I realy hope this plot arch is resolved posthaste, because zany antics of DJs is much better than the sloppy drama this has turned into.
Havokpony
Eh, im not so fond of the blueblood sympathy this time around. He had a lot of reasons to be hated. I kind of wanted the focus to be octavia and vinyl since this is the vinyl scratch tapes.
ReplyDelete[sarcasm] Well that's a bloody fine turn this has taken. [/sarcasm]
ReplyDeleteIn all seriousness though, are you sure this is the path to take for season two, Corey?
Personally, I don't feel bad for Blueblood. He's a felon, and a complete jerk. Luna shouldn't be so harsh, especially considering that Vinyl helped Celestia and Luna grow closer by telling Celestia to apologize.
ReplyDeleteI think Luna is right. Vinyl does need to go down a peg.
ReplyDeleteOK I was going to hodl off on this but in all honesty at my workl shift today all I could think about was the latest chapter. I was more restrained in my earlier review because I wanted to give myself time to think so I could respond with intelligence instead of flying off the handle like I always do. With that in mind I have my full opinion: I hated the latest chapter.
ReplyDeleteNow let me clarify, technically it was well done, the quality of writing is still impeccable, what I hate is the actual events. It seems that this story is suffering what TVTropes calls Cerebus Syndrome IE: the shift form light comedy to serious dramedy and I'm not too fond of that, but it doesn't have to be a bad thing. However this last chapter has done something that I personally find has tainted the whole story. After seeing the way Luna reacted regarding Vinyl and getting insight into Blueblood's mindset the first season now has a very very unpleasant undertone that I can't ignore.
I went back and read the older chapters hoping to get some laughs out of them, but I found that I just couldn't find anything funny anymore: reading The Celestia Interview all I could think about now is "Geeze Vinyl is such a mean bitch!" whereas before I saw her as a well-meaning blunt speaker, reading the concert (and to some degree the call-in show) all I can think about is what's going through Blueblood's mind and why he's erecting the hauty facade to hide how lonely he really is and his inability to undertand basic social mediums while Vinyl is just being, again, a bitch. Now instead of feeling enamoured by the relationship between Vinyl and Octavia I feel sorry for Octavia.
The bit problem is that I wanted Vinyl to suffer and in this setting I want her to keep suffering, maybe run away or even hurt herself, but I don't want to want that yet the story has made me want that and now I can't stop thinking about it. I also feel sympathetic for this version of Blueblood but I don't want to feel sympathetic and I can't even laugh at her previous antics in season 1 now. This made me feel very depressed and even somewhat betrayed, yes I know it's wrong to feel that way but I'm just being honest here.
I can't tell you how to write your story, Corey, but in all honesty I think you've written yourself into a corner: you can't walk back from this, if Blueblood goes back to his hauty attitude or if Vinyl comes back with her old attitude restored then it's going to be awkward at best. All I can imagine for this story to go believably is for Vinyl to become horribly depressed and run away, picking up three weeks later with Vinyl having been missing for at least 1 and not having been on the air all that time that or she decides to shut down K-COLT out of guilt, but of course your first episode's end shows that that's never going to happen.
I feel this series had taken a wrong turn for it's plot, I'm going to keep reading it but note that I'm not going to be reading it for enjoyment anymore but rather because I have this insatiable desire to finish whatever story I read so that I know how it all turns out, mauybe it will get better but in all honesty my curiousity with this story has sadly become a morbid curiosity to see how Vinyl is going to react.
I know I'm probably the only person here who thinks that that last episode compeltely ruined the series for me but I have to be honest, it's who I am, so yeah I hate to say it but this series feels as though it's teetering on the brink.
Now I'm going to watch Beavis and Butthead in order to get over the wierd depression the last episode created.
...weird, I loved this episode. I'm really surprised everypony seems to hate it so much. I thought it was outstanding. Character development, yaay! (And I think Blueblood is a good foil. So, yeah. Odd.)
ReplyDeleteWhile I thought the Blueblood sympathy was a bit heavy handed, it sets up Vinyl's internal conflict if whether she's going the right thing or not.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing how Octavia manages to cheer up Vinyl out of this one.
loving this, the mutually ensured destruction, the fact Blueblood is such a great anti-villain he may actually be a protagonist now =P
ReplyDeletemy only thought is that the sympathy was a little too strong, Blueblood "paladin of justice" both has comedic potential and the opportunity to show things from his POV.
still this continues to be among my favourite
reads! good work Corey!
I'm sorry, but Luna went to far.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad Vinyl finally got that Tongue lashing from Luna. Her over-the-topness can be charming, but one can only do that for so long before something has got to give.
ReplyDelete@Wilson Bennett
ReplyDeleteUm... so essentially, you're complaining that there was character development? Frankly, the fact that the story is making you think unfamiliar and uncomfortable things about what you'd previously enjoyed is actually kind of masterful. And without a deeper exploration of the characters involved, was there really further for the story to go? The undertone of this kind of seriousness has always been there if you care to look.
Ridiculous depression and giving up isn't the only possible reaction to this turn of events. Vinyl could potentially learn from it and grow into a more mature character who puts a little more care into what she's doing.
Cerberus syndrome inevitably occurs whenever a story outlives it's premise: the only options available are to build up from that premise or to continue drilling into the same dead cow until the pointlessness of rehashing the same ground becomes clear.
I love these kinds of turns in stories, because now we have tension and reconciliation to look forward to. Several characters have to reexamine the way they've been acting and come to new conclusions. It will only make the story stronger in the end.
I have one question for anyone who thinks that this latest chapter somehow marks the creation of a "sympathetic" Blueblood:
ReplyDeleteDid you read the chapter?
Because if you did, then you've missed the point completely. This isn't a redemption story, it's more like a super-villain origin story; and like any good origin story, it masterfully creates a villain that is both complex and justifiable, yet simultaneously pitiable. Also, as the (IMO) vastly underrated movie "Unbreakable" taught us, the superhero creates his or her own worst nemesis; and in this regard the Vinyl Scratch Tapes is no exception--without Vinyl, Blueblood is just your run of the mill douchebag with a penchant for making girls pay for their own apple fritters. Now, he is a ruined Prince, beaten and left for dead by the pony world; and he just so happens to have an equally disowned magician by his side.
Shit's about to get real, I think. This should be awesome. And have a little faith in Corey, he hasn't missed yet. I have nothing but the highest hopes for this new arc.
@Pyrite
ReplyDeleteThe problem isn't Cerebus Syndrome. The problem is that this chapter was a Cerebus Retcon. Everything this story has ever done that was funny is now not because this chapter revealed that it wasn't.
Did it ruin the story? No. I wouldn't go that far. But has Corey written himself into a corner (regardless of if he has a plan to get out of it)? Absolutely.
@TenchiFreak5
ReplyDeleteOk so I got my terms confused but that's the overall issue.
The onyl chapte rI can find even remotely funny now is The Spitfire Interview. Maybe this will turn around in the next chapter(s) but I honestly don't see thing beinf resolved any time soon.
I used this as material for my Fanfic Friday live reading. It's GREAT stuff, especially for trying out voice acting!
ReplyDeleteI love the variety in character. We have deadpan sarcasm to wild craziness. Best Fanfic Friday ever.
Alright, I've been reading this one for a while now and it's time I give my thoughts on this recent chapter.
ReplyDeleteYeah, there was definitely an abrupt change in the mood. Perhaps it was too sudden, if you ask me. This chapter pretty much took all of the playful insulting fun and made it seem as if Vinyl was a pony with harmful intentions throughout the entire story but it allows the author to show that Vinyl isn't always this carefree obnoxious pony and that she has a more mature side to her, so don't count the author out yet readers.
This chapter focused on Blueblood's character and really makes the readers sympathize with him more, which is fine because not all antagonists have to be shallow bad guys. I thought it was creative for the author to give us a reason as to why Blueblood acts the way he does or at least how he feels about it.
While not I'm a fan of shipping, this story is an exception because it's light hearted and all in good fun. The sappiness doesn't bother me because the MLP show itself has given me diabeetus anyways. The antics are still fun and it makes you wonder who Vinyl and Octavia will bring in next and what troubles the prince will get them into.
The whole Blueblood rival radio thing is fine. Although that does get in the way of Vinyl and Octavia's screen time, it does the job in providing conflict for the story. What better way to battle fire with fire?
Anyways, I'm looking forward to the next installment. I feel a little bad that the latest chapter got mixed reviews but hey, chin up man! I still think this story's enjoyable.
I haven't finished it yet (though I will in about 30 minutes, unfortunately), however I really wanted to point out 2 things before I forget them.
ReplyDelete1. "Well I never voted for her."
2. "Wielder of the Flame of Anor..."
With references like these, I have to say that Corey, you most certainly win teh Interwebz.
S2.Part 3 :
ReplyDelete>we have Princess Luna here for an interview! Are you excited? I sure am!
-Yay ! :D
I wonder, if there will be some continuity from that one part with Celestia ?
>Octavia: How do you function like this?! >DJ-P0n3: Pretty good, apparently.
-Heh. Vinyl Scratch has her luck maxed out. ;)
>that that was the reason you got sauced!
-1 ‘’that’’ too much. (small error)
>Blueblood: [Softly.] Oh Celestia, are you crying? >Trixie: [Voice cracks.] Just shut up!
-This is incredibly awkward...
>Voice: CLEARLY GREETING ETIQUETTE HAS GROSSLY CHANGED IN OUR ABSENCE!
-I didn’t really consider this would happen, but in retrospect this was very obvious...
>[Speakers distort, loud pop is heard.]
-Yeeeeah... Super Canterlot Voice through amplifiers is surely considered as a weapon of mass destruction, in Equestria. ;)
-----
Well, overall it was interesting : Some interesting funny stuff between Vinyl and Octavia, and some interesting awkward stuff with Trixie.
Not sure about Blueblood... the author is clearly trying to make him look a bit more sympathetic, but... Is it a good thing ?
@Nickel Gunner
ReplyDeleteOk... not sure what your problem is, but... Have you ONLY read the very first chapter or something ?
Almost straight from S1.P2, she starts explaining and giving background information about why she TENDS to act like she does.
And, are you seriously agreeing that Vinyl is ''so much of an ass-bad pony, doing bad/evil stuff, and whatever dumb stuff that other guy said'' ?
I mean... seriously ?
There's a difference between using your resources, contacts and strong attitude to provide elements for a show, to pull someone out of trouble and help provide support to a pony which has problems... BECAUSE of another pony(Blueblood) using his money and influence to shutdown Octavia 'ensemble' stuff SIMPLY because she had ties with Vinyl... doing his bad business just for the sole reason to deliberately hurt another pony(Vinyl) in the process.
If you really, REALLY want to see it your way...
See this as choosing 'a minor evil for the greater good' VS 'a medium evil being a pain to everypony, for the benefit of nopony except himself'.
@Wilson Bennett
ReplyDelete>The bit problem is that I wanted Vinyl to suffer and in this setting I want her to keep suffering, maybe run away or even hurt herself
-...ooooooooook ? Badly made-horrible grimdark is 'that' way, ''dude'' ?
Vinyl has a strong attitude... so whatever what ?
At least she uses it for 'something better than just herself'. Like with Octavia, her only real friend... Blueblood is the bad guy in general, and in this story. He uses his stuff only for himself, and for no other purpose than petty vengeance.
@Nova25
ReplyDeleteAfter verification, it would appear that when I read this last part... Google Doc only loaded half the damn story ! Right after the : >[Transmission disrupted.]
I quite hate Google Doc sometimes...
-----
>Derpy: Are you ... [Checks mail bag.] Ms. Vinyl Agatha Scratch?
-I have *NOOOOO* idea, why the author added that ‘agatha’ thing there... Is it supposed to be funny ?
>I mean, honestly, the whole reason I’m doing this is to make my enemies angry
-He admitted it himself.
>and I deserved far worse than the punishment I received.
-Huh, the heck ? There’s no way Luna would actually say that, and even less to some ponies not especially close to her...
>I ... thought I was doing the right thing, something noble, by standing up to that DJ
-You mean by ‘’threatening’’ her, her friend(s), her (part of) livelihood and the livelihood of her friend, and etc ?
>I wanted justice, but that only made everypony hate me more.
-Huh... He wanted (what we call)‘’justice’’, by trying to destroy the life and reputation of Vinyl (and Octavia), and by kinda-ponynapping a pony... all that because he was haughty-mad that Vinyl hadn’t submitted to the pressure he tried to impose her directly, and indirectly though Octavia...
>Blueblood: You started it when you insulted my auntie Celestia!
-Last time I checked, Celestia hadn’t been really bothered by the interview... in fact, it helped her realize that she should do more and be more present for Luna.
Of course, people forget that part... mmh ?
>You’re just a mad, angry little colt who cries when he doesn’t get what he wants.
-Everything he *DID* so far proves that point...
>DJ-P0n3: Hey now, that’s not the whole story-- >Luna: QUIET!
-And insert dumb characterization...
I mean, come on ! Luna disregards EVERY SINGLE ACT of villainy Blueblood recently committed ‘’just because’’ he’s her ‘’nephew’’, and while having her judgment clearly clouded by her own culpability of what she did 1000years ago !
>[Darkly.] I just want things to get worse for her.
-Our knight in shining armor, ladies and gentlemen !
...this is kinda getting bad, at this point.
>Blueblood: Thank you ... for being my friend.
-All this just seem sooooo forced... (sigh)
>good to know Vinyl hasn’t made my life completely hopeless
-*YOU* made this happen, by being so very haughty and intentionally an ass to everypony, ALL for the bad reasons !
-----
I’m regretting to have read that second half, honestly... a lot.
I mean... seriously ?
Trying to make Blueblood more ‘’likeable’’ is ONE thing... Deliberately glancing over all the s**t he ever did to everypony around him, because he was convinced it was his ‘’right’’ to do so, AND dragging Luna into this by making her blind to what he recently did... is one whole heck of a thing.
And there’s people above that are convinced that it’s Vinyl the ‘bad pony’ around here ?
The Internet... I swear...
lol
ReplyDeleteWow.
Just gotta say, when you're getting people that invested in your story (regarding pretty much every comment above me) it means you're doing it right!
Gotta say I didnt like the last chapter as much as the others (I came for the comedy ;P) but Im guessing its going somewhere, so I'll gladly wait and see ^^.
Its funny because to be honest without all the extra "background" that the relationship between Vinyl and Octavia provides I would TOTALLY have hated Vinyl. I hate ALL radio shock jocks because of their lack of boundries and their desire for cheap laughs.
So if you're gonna go make me like Vinyl, Im more than fine with you trying to make me like (Well...maybe that'll be pushing it, but I could go as far as tolerate ;P) Blueblood.
Just gotta see how it goes in the next chapter (Dont choke! dont choke! dont choke! XD)
I don't see why people dislike the last chapter. All it does is reinforce the villains. After all, Batman did it, Avatar did it, ACTUAL MLP did it. That's why we root for Harley Quinn and Zuko. That's why Gilda and Luna had a fan-base pre-season 2. Also, of course Luna disregarded what Blueblood did. That was the point. She believes in second chances more than anypony ever has or will. She wants to see her nephew succeed despite his past errors. That's what makes Luna, Blueblood, and Trixie good characters. At this point, I actually like Trixie more than Vinyl and Octavia. This is giving more depth to all of the characters and that's what makes it an amazing story.
ReplyDeleteWow! There is a lot of hate on this chapter! I personly loved it! Vinyl's hurt, Trixie wants to hurt her more, and Luna's actions are justifiable! (Seriously helping out family is understandable and being mad for someone being apologetic for something you did would honestly leave you in a bad mood.)
ReplyDeleteThis is called character development people and who said Blueblood was likable? He admits he's doing all this for revenge and him being depressed is understandable. (He made an ass of him self on air! I think people will all hate him for that.)
I hope there's a new chapter coming soon.
ReplyDeletePlease make more of these i loved them and i dont want them to and i hate reading but i actully liked actully loved reading theme
ReplyDeletePlease make more of these i loved them and i dont want them to and i hate reading but i actully liked actully loved reading theme
ReplyDeletePlease make more of these i loved them and i dont want them to and i hate reading but i actully liked actully loved reading theme
ReplyDeleteMy two bits: The first episode was spot on and hilarious. Everything after that, however... Comedy went out the door in favor of sappiness and Octavia/Scratch shipping. Really. All that flirting and implied romance between them doesn't really fit. I'll never understand the intense need for so many fanfic writers to go crazy with shipping. There's so much of it that It just makes me numb. It's almost gotten to a point where anything where the Mane6 aren't in some kind of sexual relationship with each other is in the minority of stories.
ReplyDeleteThat said, I do love the concept of this story and laughed my way through the first episode. It's a great idea and Vynil and Octavia make a fantastic odd couple. I would love to see more from this story, but I'd also like to see the intensely forced flirting, relationship hints, and sappiness go way in favor of more comedy.
Hey guys. Just wanted to let you all know the next chapter is currently in progress. It's just taking a little longer than usual since it's a bit of a doozy this time around.
ReplyDeleteThank you all for your patience.
@Corey W. Williams
ReplyDeleteThanks for the update, I'm quite looking forward to it.
Well, the latest chapter has certainly given me something to think about. I remember reading somewhere that if you want to make a good story. Create a good character and make them suffer.
ReplyDeleteReading some of the other comments confirmed that this is what you were aiming for, and you got me. You got a good chunk of character development for the Blueblood, Trixie and Luna, though some of it doesn't exactly sit well with me (could be that reluctant to feel pity for them since they're not on the "good" side).
That's just a small detail though. You did a great job blurring the line between who's on the good and who's on the bad side, giving every character a chance.
Now that you've got me fighting with myself, I'm really eager to see where you're going to take this. You've got a knack for making readers feel a wide range of emotions as shown from your previous chapters. Keep up the good work!
@Crazy56U
ReplyDeleteHere, this gives a good idea of what I'm referring to: http://26.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m2eihznPVu1rp7wb2o1_1280.jpg
Finished the rough draft of the new chapter, going through the editing process right now. It's a long one so there's a lot of ground to cover with the editing process with my beta readers and such.
ReplyDeleteGive it about ... a week or so tops and it should be ready to post.
Again, sorry about the length of time this took, especially since the last chapter was a bit of a cliffhanger that made a lot of people wonder exactly where this story was going. I appreciate your patience. Have a good day, guys.
@Corey W. Williams'
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear it. Hope that Vinyl will bounce back and be happy again--she's not perfect, but she really is a good pony.
Stopped reading after that whole Blueblood incident at the concert since it is really fucking stupid.
ReplyDelete@Stephen Cawking
ReplyDeleteI feel like the blueblood thing just turned into straight bullying.
A new chapter with serious development and resolution?? Best birthday present ever!!!
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteThank you Trixie, you've just said what I've been thinking for some time now. Seriously, that Rover thing has been bothering me for the longest time.
ReplyDeleteOh wow! An update. I was sure this story was dead. Really really happy I was wrong.
ReplyDeleteCome on, Blueblood, that's no reason to give up on some perfectly good revenge! You just need to tone it down a little. Aim for moderate embarrassment instead of utter humiliation. Everfree tours are out, but you could get away with booking them to regular shitty venues.
ReplyDeleteWow... you made Trixie a protagonist, and Blueblood someone I actually care about!
ReplyDeleteHow?
How...
Next thing I know, you'll show me a story about Twist that's going to be awesome, or maybe Diamond Tiara. I've already seen one that made me like Silver Spoon(I know, right?).
Does anyone know if Midnight Magic Productions is still making recordings of these?
ReplyDelete"I play for souls." That is the best line I'd ever expect to hear from Celestia after all that. Kudos.
ReplyDeleteHeh, I suppose you're playing towards "Everyone deserves a second chance." Eh, I'll accept it so long as it doesn't completely change their characters.
ReplyDelete@Demonjack123
ReplyDeleteWell that is addressed as such later in the story. It was kind of meant to be seen as dickish
OK So this chapter did some things I didn't expect and I was surprised to see Luna there. Trixie did bring up some good points, especially the diamond dog thing, and I did laugh when she burst out of the trash can.
ReplyDeleteBlueblood seems to be going the wrong way and I'm not sure if I care about him. Hopefully with Vinyl offering herself up Blueblood will do the right thing and be able to grow a little.
also I loved Harpo's silent innuendo, Beauty Brass/Harpo has really grown on me.
Did Blueblood just cans.wav?
ReplyDeleteAll I know now is that Trixie is awesome, quite a chapter. As usual Celestia is a baller, and everything else is par to course...until, VINYL SCRATCH WAS A CHANGELING ALL ALONG! *GASP*
ReplyDeleteDon't believe in yourself Vinyl. Believe in Octavia, who believes in you!
ReplyDeleteNooooo! Don't you guys see it? Trixie and Blueblood have friends, Vinyl is having an epiphany, everyone is being kind, relationships are mending, this is awful! The story is getting ready to be DONE. Can't you see it? They're going for the big happy ending. This is happy, and unfortunately ENDING. Now where will we get our fix of Vinyl and Tavi?
ReplyDelete@Sjosten
ReplyDeleteSimple...from the university days?
@Demonjack123
ReplyDeleteOh yeah. Forgot about that.
*Hoof's at screen* Moooorrrreeeeee!
ReplyDeleteFinally somepony points out the hypocrisy...

S2.Part 4 :
>Have to remain productive. If I don’t, I’ll just do something stupid that will make everypony hate me more.
-This is more than probable.
>Derpy: I have a giant bag of fan mail for you.
-That day was the day of the Grand Apocalypse, when Hell froze over...
>If you think we should feel sorry for you when you made Vinyl and Octavia feel like crap, you have another thing coming.
-...luckily, Diablo found a way to jumpstart Hell’s furnaces, and Timmy decided to stop sitting on the big red ‘’Do not Push’’ button and to push on the ‘’To prevent nuclear apocalypse. Press Here’’ button.
>Lyra. P.S. Stop hiding the existence of humans, I know you and Celestia are just covering it up.
-‘’It’s all true ! It’s all a giant conspiracy with the donkeys an the dragons too, to hide the existence of a Portal going to the humans’ dimension !’’
‘’In fact, I, myself am a ---...’’ *communications cut*
>I have to hide until I figure out what to do ... and how to curb this sudden compulsion I have to talk to myself!
-Heh... something actually relatively funny... It has been a while, isn’t it ?
*Look at the [Comedy] tag with some nostalgia* Yeah... a while.
>I know you’re upset because of all that stuff Luna said, but you aren’t a bad pony. You never were.
-To her defense, I suppose, Luna was on the moon for 1000Years... I’m guessing that she’s just not quite accustomed to the modern pony’s way... that, and she’s a bit (blinded) biased, and probably somewhat misinformed on the whole situation.
>DO YOU WANT A HUG? I’M GOOD AT HUGGING! JUST ASK HARPO!
-I really like ‘Beauty Brass’. :3
She has her ‘caplock key’ stuck, but in a cute and somewhat adorable way. :)
>to the point where Discord has a higher approval rating than him.
-Well, who would ‘hate’ him, really ?
I mean, yeeeeah... he tried to summon ‘’eternal chaos’’, but at least he was always smiling and polite with ponies, and he was quite transparent about his motives.
>Is anypony else going to show up I should know about?
>[In the background, Trixie sneezes quietly.]
-Comedy ! I missed you so much ! *hug* <3
>DJ-P0n3: Thank you, Octy. That was so evil of you ... and I’m glad you did it.
-Necessary evils... they sometimes have a reason to be.
>Beauty Brass: D’AWWW! THAT’S SO ADORABLE. HARPO, ISN’T THAT ADORABLE?
-Did I ever said that I loved that pony ?
>when I play, I play for souls.
-Huh... Yu Gi Ho reference ?
>You’re not THAT stupid, are you? NOPONY is going to like you after this.
-He has completely fallen to the Dark Side of the force ! ...well, a little bit more than before.
Darth Blood ? Blue Vader ? I wonder.
>And ... well, maybe I’m not horrible or mean but ... I think I may have made some mistakes.
-No one is perfect, and no one is 100% Good and/or can be all the time.
But, there are of those people who will go out of their way to make other miserable, because of some petty desire for ‘whatever’... and there are those who will always be ready to extend a hand to you, as long as you aren’t actively trying to cut theirs.
>all this time I wanted to find a way to get revenge and when I finally do ... [Sigh.] It’s almost funny, isn’t it?
-No... No, not really.
-----
I still, personally, think that the ‘’Season 2’’ story should have had its own page, with the [Normal] instead of [Comedy] tag. -_-
Really.
Now that this is out of the way...
This... chapter, was somewhat interesting. Certainly far better than the second half of last chapter. But whatever... just one ‘opinion’ between many...
On a side note, I wonder if one day there will be a [Shipping] story with ‘Beauty Brass’ (and Harpo) ?
I got here from the YouTube audio play versions of season 1. And now I've read season 2 and I absolutely love it! Great story!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for next episode! Nice work!
ReplyDeleteomigosh how did I only just discover this? This story has some of the best characterization that I've ever read
ReplyDeleteHey guys. Just to give you guys a heads up, progress on the newest chapter has been rather slow due to some recent real life complications. Things have died down a bit now, so I'm gonna try my best to get the next chapter done as soon as possible. Sorry for the inconvenience.
ReplyDeleteHave a nice day, everybody :)
@Corey W. Williams
ReplyDeleteHope everything's okay, Corey. Glad to hear about the chapter, but RL comes first.
All I have to say is that I need MORE!! This is ONE OF THE BEST FAN PRODUCTIONS OF ALL TIME!! I mean the quality of writing and then the voice acting is fantastic! I really can't get enough!! Please tell me there will be updates soon!!
ReplyDeleteVinyl's lines when beginning the VINYL SCRATCH are positively epic. I find myself repeating them in awe every single time, they're just too freaking amazing!
ReplyDeleteSeason 2 has ended fantastically. Very nice work Corey.
ReplyDeleteTook me a while to get into it (end of the first story, actually)... but then I blinked and realized that I'd finished season one and the sun had mysteriously set. Excellent story about my favorite pair in the fandom!
ReplyDeleteA Trixie TV Show and a Lyra radio show? DO WANT.
ReplyDelete"TRIXIE IS THE NATURAL EMBODIMENT OF THE SEXY!"
ReplyDeleteBest line ever.
is the specials the last of it or will there be season 3? i hope so
ReplyDeleteHaha Trixie was hilarious. Very well done. This is definitely my favorite fanfic. Favorite line was "Trixie is the most modest... ever"
ReplyDeleteThe more snarky Octy gets, the better she is.
ReplyDeleteYou do realize, of course, this means that Lyra's show must be done.
ReplyDelete@Melodia
ReplyDelete*grins* Wait for it.
@Corey W. Williams
ReplyDeleteUnderground Conspiracy theorist Radio?
I waited for along time to get this episode, longer than I would've liked...
ReplyDeleteAnd it was worth it in the first few paragraphs.
Well done my friend very well done.
S2.Part 5:
ReplyDelete>I have Beauty Brass on standby to fill out the rest of the time by talking about her hopes and dreams or something.
>Beauty Brass: I’M HELPING!
-She just so loudly cheerful all the time. ;)
>you’re saying that while wearing a cape and wizard’s hat?
>Trixie: Yes. What’s your point?
-Yeah, like Trixie said ? The 'cape and hat' is the traditional attire for wizards. : http://ponyfictionarchive.net/images/gallery/galleries/Macros/trixie%20robe%20and%20wizard%20hat.png
Speaking of which... where is Trixie's card of the Wizard Guild, mmh ?
>Octavia: Wow. Get a room, you two.
-Yeah, just like her and Vinyl did at one point in the past (like, end of 'Season 1').
...that's one odd similarity. I would guess that it's intentional.
>[Shot glass is slid over to Octavia, Octavia takes a drink.]
-Someone... or somepony : ''They are drinking at the radio ?! Think of the children !'' *start running in circle*
>DJ-P0n3: Yay! Octavia’s gonna get tipsy! This is gonna be a fun afternoon!
-She's right. 'Drunk(or tipsy) ponies' are usually rather amusing... when correctly used.
>I could, but I won’t. [Takes another shot.]
-With him systematically 'taking a shoot' every time... you wonder if he's not playing a 'drinking game'.
>TRIXIE IS THE NATURAL EMBODIMENT OF THE SEXY! [Hiccups, head hits the table.]
-Well, *shuffle some pictures* according to these... she IS ! : http://i43.tinypic.com/k2bijd.png - http://tinyurl.com/sexytrixie
>DJ-P0n3: Well ... [Sigh.] I was lonely.
>Blueblood: [Stunned silence.]
-The scene : DUN-DUUN DUUUUUN ! Me : *look left, look right* *shrug* Huh. Ok ?
>DJ-P0n3: Awww ... our little jerk is growing up right before our eyes!
-If he continues like that, he will have to be renamed.
>Ugh ... Trixie feels sick. Somehow this is all somepony else’s fault!
-That's one somewhat amusing phrase, coming from her.
>Trixie’s true popularity would not come until much later, after the invention of a device known as “television.”
-Well, they have electronics, DJ stations and arcade machines...
I'm guessing that TVs haven't been invented yet(in *THIS* dimension, at least), because that specific field didn't gather much interest, until people/ponies started loving the Radio.
>sold to another very strange musician named Lyra Heartstrings, leading to the development of another historically significant show.
-I have to say... I have no idea what would make Lyra's show exactly ''special'' enough for a series of stories ?
I mean, I like Lyra, but... she doesn't have big issues (like Blueblood), she does music- yes- but Octavia already did the whole 'music career' thing...
Maybe... hmm, maybe the thing with Lyra's obsession for 'hands' and 'humans', and her love for the mythical sea ponies, plus there's her ''friend'' *cough* Bonbon.
I guess it could have enough things to work.

Mmh, well... it was an interesting 'Ending'. A little bit unexpected that things went out 'THAT' smoothly, I have to say.
Hopefully, [Comedy] will stay one of the main focuses for that probable '3rd Season'... well, a bit more than in 'Season 2', at least.
I hadn't realized that these existed until last night. O__o
ReplyDeleteI watched the first 3 episodes on Youtube, but had no idea that they were already this far in script form.
Anyway, just read through all of them and I can't *wait* for them to come out in radio form. I will also most assuredly be going out for the auditions when they go out. :3
Love this stuff!
Oh wow, it just occurred to me: this story is (just over) a year old now! Wow!
ReplyDeleteI feel old.
@Jakub
ReplyDelete>rumors that you are the person responsible for establishing the personalities of both Vinyl and Octavia that the entire fandom has come to know and love. Is that true?
-I'm really curious to know where *you* (conveniently) heard this ''rumor'' ?
Vinyl Scratch/DJ P0N-3 's Rock-like, and amusing somewhat-rebel attitude... and Octavia's more pragmatic and calm personality (just like both their own music style, which most likely is what inspired them)... Both existed well before those stories.
Now, to know if he's the first to ''combine'' the personality of both ponies, to create this particular dynamic between them... 'That' is another story. (a few shipping between them already existed too)
I actually enjoyed reading these and I am hoping for more. I rarely like anything I read. But this is great!
ReplyDeleteI actually enjoyed this fic and wanting more when usually I hate reading. I hope there will be more soon.
ReplyDeleteThis fic definitely brought tears to my eyes and made me laugh.

ReplyDeletedoes this mean you will make a season 3 to this when season three of FiM comes in november?
@Nova25
ReplyDeleteyeah... about the part of your review about lyra heartstrings... re-read the conclusion of season 1 episode 2... um... that is if you don't mind...
few questions:
ReplyDeletewill there be an interview with the mane 6?
was the show mentioned at the end of season 2 episode 5 "late night with lyra and bon bon" mentioned in an earlier episode?
will there be an interview with cadence and shining armor eventually?
will there be scripts for the interviews with the other characters like the one mentioned with photo finish?
When are the next set of recorded shows going to come out? I miss them!
ReplyDeleteSomeone needs to update this a little. Episode 4 of the master recording came out a long time ago. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wwDWOw87V60

ReplyDeleteWe need more episodes recorded! It also would be cool if it could be made frequently and aired on iTunes or something like that as a free podcast!
