I liked it. The writing was good and followable but... still, I don't know. It just seemed too... straight forward, if that makes sense.
If it wasn't 4am, I would be reading this already. Because Zecora is the best pony. And she needs so many more fics >:

Ohhhh backstory! I really liked this! a couple rough to read sentences in the beginning, but after that it was full of epic win! I really like the worldbuilding done with the Zebras. Great to see some Zecora fic!
*grins* That's a good Zecora fic, there. I like that you show off a tribal culture without looking down on it, and explain a little of why someone so different is living near Ponyville.
Trixie or Lyra or whoever may be best pony, but you can never have enough Zecora.

I did do a little bit of research, primarily for accuracy of names as well as flora.

Well done, TheMechanic. You touched on a few things with Zecora's life that I think a lot of people would like to have known. Such an interesting character development too.
I can tell a lot of thought went into it.
Thank you for writing this; there needs to be more Zecora appreciation, and your take on her background was just excellent.
A good 'explanation' of Zecora with some very interesting rituals and traditions thrown in. I felt like the writing had issues, though ("it was tears of joy"?), and overall it wasn't much of a story, just a character sketch.
Really interesting story. I finally have an explanation for Zecora speaking in rhymes, canon or not.
