Apparently this is a thing now, which might be my fault since I joked about it on Open Pony a few times. There is a rumor floating around that EQD is for sale, and I've gotten a bunch of emails on the topic, so I figured I'd get a statement out.
Sooo, lets dive in! Read below.
We are in one of the worst official pony hiatus periods ever with G5 ending abruptly and Hasbro leaving us all with nothing to really cover for well over a year, and who knows how deep into 2026 we will start seeing news at the very least. Times like these, I tend to get a little silly.
Will EQD ever be "for sale?" Not unless I find someone that is truly into pony. A true fan that can do this place justice. I've gotten countless offers from sketchy blog collecting companies and news website conglomerates over the years that have nothing at all to do with us. I put too much time into this place and the concept of Equestria Daily in general to let it go to anyone that isn't actually passionate.
Ironically, our social media pages are probably what people at these companies really want. Blogs are in a weird place in 2025, but the Instagram, Twitter, and even Discord are all still massive. If I could get even a fraction of the Twitter traffic back here on the site it would basically revitalize it. Both Twitter and Insta get 2013 level EQD blog views still. It's pretty funny how this site essentially competes with itself since that social media traffic rarely migrates here.
I'll admit, especially during these hiatus phases I feel some pretty big burnout. It has been 15 years and it's hard to maintain this place at the level it deserves while I'm also juggling other things to keep myself afloat financially. And truth be told, this site isn't well optimized at all for money making. The ads barely cover anything these days, I shill the Patreon maybe once a year. It also really sucks for that whole SEO thing thanks to our giant galleries and image resolutions on regular posts make Google freak out.
I'm hoping G6 will be incredible. It's no secret I wasn't a G5 superfan like I was G4. It's why I recruited Overcast from the G5 Discord to come report on it. I think that went a lot better than what I could have done. I loved the characters, but I'm not huge on 3D animation in general, and TYT wasn't really my style either. We will see what Hasbro does for G6. It's definitely going to be good to have something to report on again at least!
So, I guess the TL;DR is, no EQD isn't for sale unless someone super passionate that I can trust to keep it going for G6 appears, and that's going to be a super tall order. In the end, I'd rather just let this whole project become an archive than sell it to someone who only wants to monetize it and add it to their portfolio like who has offered so far. With ads and Patreon dwindling though, I have had to focus much more on my other money grinds. I'll keep this place going in some capacity regardless!
