YTP News (Youtube Poop News) recently did a report on bronydom as a whole. Apparently he absolutely hated us a few months ago, but has slowly moved to the other side.

I can't really tell if hes insulting us or silently trying to hold back his inner pony love, but it's a relatively interesting video to check out. Find it after the break!

    4. He doesn't like the show. but he thinks the whole community is fascinating. which i respect but this show still rocks no matter what.

    5. I wonder who will take over the world first: China, or Bronies?? (if there are any Chinese bronies, then there's no doubt)

    6. First comes hate, then comes indifference. Next up: the event horizon of bronyism. Once you pass that point, there is no coming back. :D

But seriously, that was a really good video. I have only respect for someone who is that willing to change his mind on something.

      ReplyDelete
    7. He actually has an Applejack avatar on the YTP forum.

      ReplyDelete
    8. I think he's spot on in most respects, but I think he's projecting when he says that most bronies think the show is "okay." Who doesn't love the show? It's so awesome!

      ReplyDelete
    9. We must continue to work on him. At this rate we can have him working for us by Christmas.

    10. I gotta say that I loved the show before I found EqD and the rest of the community. But only after finding the community did I no longer feel strange for liking the show so much. lol Now, most of my immediate family knows about it, i think ive passively converted my younger brother, and today I ended up telling one of my close friends about the show.

But, not sure if the guy in the video secretly loves the show or not. It's highly possible considering that he says he no longer hates it. If anything, he's just giving us a nod of respect to recognize that we are something much more than he originally thought.

      ReplyDelete
    11. I think I agree with almost everything he said except that most bronies think the show is ok.

      OK...

      OK!?!

      ReplyDelete
    12. Only thing I didnt really like about the vid was that he said most of us would say its "okay" I've never met a brony say it was just "okay".

      ReplyDelete
    13. He doesn't love it or us.
He's just "OK" with it and with us.
The only thing you can get out of this is that a person who hated the community vehemently now just doesn't really care either way.

I know it's awesome to think that the community is growing in part by converting haters into appreciators (or... eugh... "believers"... but that's why I'm only 80% and won't make the last jump to full bronydom.), but this guy wasn't "converted."

He just doesn't have much of an opinion either way.

Also bear in mind, this entire thing is based on the fandom, but mostly in regards to fan content in the veins of YTPs and image macros.

I will point that I'm glad he basically said that if you meet an average "brony" on the street, they'll admit they enjoy the show but it isn't the "greatest thing evarrr" to them ("It's Okay").

Also, long comment was long. I know that.

      ReplyDelete
    14. "They'll say it's okay"

... I'm not the only one who actually honostly loves the show, right?

      ReplyDelete
    15. "Sonic Fags" jeez that sounds harsh. And wasn't MLP introduced in the '80's not the '90's? This is the first I've of the NLR and the S.E. He forgot to mention that Fallout: Equestria is definitely one of the better if not best fanfictions ever made as well. That was was interesting at the least.

      ReplyDelete
    16. @Wallace Sinclaire

No, definitely not. Hell, I myself am chomping at the bit for the new episode next week(sorry, couldn't resist).

      ReplyDelete
    17. What is with Sabrina being on the news panel? She is a graphic designer, not an anchor. Zigzag is much less camera shy after al- *shot*

I'm not a big fan of YTP though I love YTPMV's for some reason. Watched a bit of this. Fascinating.

      ReplyDelete
    18. I disagree with him saying the show is "ok". It's awesome.

      ReplyDelete
    19. Well I have an idea for a poll now. What is it that makes you a brony? (If you like both you have too lean towards on or the other. It would probably sound something like this;

What is the reason you are in this community?

      The enjoyment of the show
      or
The enjoyment of the fan content

Sorry but this video got me intrigued, and I had to suggest it.

      ReplyDelete
    20. "This is a fuckin' religion they got going here."

      I lol'd so hard.

      ReplyDelete
    21. Okay so at least admitting that this isn't the scourge of the internet and is nothing to fear is a good step.

However, I'm pretty sure the average brony would tell you that the show IS that great, it's definitely not like any other children's show, it's much better. (which is pretty much like what everyone else has said above me)

      ReplyDelete
    22. Ya know, I'm kind of glad I caught this hefore I went off to be. It takes a lot of courage to speak your mind when you're in his poition. Not only does he ma up and admit he was wrong in his early asumptons, but he actually did o when he had a bunch of subscribers on the line. It's no secret we're a misunderstood subculture among the internet to a good deal, especially with the outright indifference exhibited by some that's turned to distaste after they encounter some of our more... outspoken members.

It's refresing to see a bit of an understanding understanding nod of acknowledgement, and this guy's got my respect for that!

      ReplyDelete
    23. He's either an _extremely_ thorough researcher, or a closet brony. He sure seemed to have plenty of pony music, recent stuff like Epic Cupcake Time, mentioned Fallout Equestria, mentioned New Lunar Republic... Yeah :P Hey, if he's not ready to out himself on his show yet, that's fine. But yeah, overall, I found the vid to be a really interesting perspective from a new brony... I mean, "observer of the bronies" ;)

      And now time for immaturity.

11:33-11:44 for "pony pooper". I think he meant "plot"?
13:21-13:27 Oh dear... someone get this guy some Ex-Lax!

      ReplyDelete
    24. He knows a lot more about us than he wants to admit

      ReplyDelete
    25. The show is very good. But is is the community that turns it into the additive substance that it is....

      ReplyDelete
    26. I love the show and the community!

      ReplyDelete
    27. It's impossible to hate ponies for long. The only way to hate them is to never learn about them and if you never learn about them then how can you hate them?

      ReplyDelete
    28. That was pretty ok, but...

I read something in the comments section (on the youtube video):

""I fucking hate the bronies on 4chan, because they are either
A.) A raging faggot who can't stick to the /co/ pony threads and feel the need to post a fucking pony in EVERY post, and make pony threads on boards that aren't for fucking kids cartoons.
B.) Your generic troll who post ponies who knows that shit gets replies, with varying degrees of success.""

Is this still happening on 4chan?

      ReplyDelete
    29. Eh, the whole thing felt pretty half-assed, to be honest. Not even bothering to spend the ten seconds it would have taken to figure out how to pronounce Lauren Faust's name, for example. And to echo a common sentiment in the comments above me, any brony who you meet in the street, and is willing to admit that they are one, isn't going to respond to a question on how they feel about the show just by saying it's okay. Anypony willing to admit to someone else they are a brony is already in the 'love it category'.

But hey, just because I don't agree with him doesn't mean he's evil (although his hatred of the Sonic fan base, even from what things I've heard about it, seem overly harsh and insensitive to them and those who he likens them to). I'm okay with him being okay with me, even if he does still have some misconceptions. Love and tolerate and all that jazz, neh?

      ReplyDelete
    30. @Erroneous

It is an interesting question. For me it was the community output that got me into the show, and it's the community output that keeps me here.

I do think the cartoons are great fun and have a lot going for them, but in the end it's only 22 minutes a week (at most!), not nearly enough pony to hold me.

Fun fact: The cover art for Fallout Equestria is what caught my eye, then after being spellbound by the story I realised I'd have to watch 'a few' of the cartoons to really understand what's going on. I think you can imagine the rest of it...

      ReplyDelete
    31. I enjoyed watching this. And I enjoy the show as much as the various YTP/PMVs out there. However, I my favorite part of the fandom is the music people have been creating. All the remixes and custom pieces are masterfully done.

      ReplyDelete
    32. Oh wow. i didn't expect this to get HERE of all places.

Anyway. I'm glad you guys liked the video. hope no one took any offense. My mark is pretty much made on being rough around the edges and showing no mercy on something.

but yeah you guys are pretty cool and i wish ya'll the best.

    35. He said it was infectious source. He was pretty right. :D
And yeah, like 95% of bronies here, I absolutely LOVE this show! It has almost everything I'd ever want from a cartoon ^^ and more!

      @XKat's*
Not that difficult to imagine, since most bronies have migrated to Ponychan by now. At least that'd be the board where they talk about pony at all, since they are liable of ban every now and then for posting ponies on 4chan.
So, while there are surely bronies in 4chan, I doubt they ever mention it in its threads anymore.

      ReplyDelete
    36. Did anyone else catch him almost use the 20% line?

...You could spend all night there and still not find it all, there would still be about 20%...omg listen to me."

      Bout lost it there.

    37. "I find it hard to make my own poops when I want to.", I can't be the only one who laughed at that. Also, most of us love the show right, the fandom is excellent, but the show is the best right?

If you're really the Stu from the video, it gets my seal of approval. YOu said some good things, some bad things, and some other things, but I laughed and enjoyed it. Even if you're not currently a brony, you're welcome here.

    40. I honestly have no idea why I love MLP:FIM so much, I honestly don't. I still watched cartoons periodically, but I hadn't watched a new cartoon series since the days of Courage, Johnny Bravo, Dexter's Lab, Powerpuff Girls, etc. One day, a friend sent me a link to the "Inglourious Ponies" trailer, and it was all over with.

The community is great: the PMVs, the music, the fanart, all the other original fan-generated stuff that is just mind-blowing. I haven't delved this far into a fan-based community since the days of Carmageddon. That's really saying something.

      ReplyDelete
    41. Over the past few months I've actually met a lot of people who are fans because of the fan content and not the show itself. I won't knock those people who are in it for the fandom, but the general assumption of "if you're a fan of the content you're also a fan of the show" has been showing signs of wear for some time now. I can only speak for myself, in that I happen to be a fan of both the show and (some of) the fan content, but I wouldn't rule out the idea that there are a lot more people in the fandom like Stu than we think; they're here because of the fan content and don't care quite as much for the show as the rest of us.

However, everyone (everypony?) in this fandom should still be loved and tolerated equally, regardless of your personal draw.

      ReplyDelete
    42. Stuart K Reilly,

Thank you for the video with the indifferent opInion.

It felt good to see someone explain this whole brony thing with a neutral perspectice...

      ReplyDelete
    43. I gotta say I genuinely love the show. The community is sweet icing on the top, and it's tasty and all, and not to be minimized one bit, but, dang, the show does something I really seem to need right now. Will I need it in ten years? I have no idea. But right now, it fills some empty place in me with happy. A lot of happy.

    44. @DJ VS-3

ya know those pics you see the first time and you jut your head back. that was it. haha

      ReplyDelete
    45. "99% of bronies would say the show is 'okay'." I call BS. Every brony I know loves the show just as much as the rest of the community.

      ReplyDelete
    46. @Flutterfan lol, I laughed at that too. But I agree, if there was no show, and it wasn't awesome..then there would be no fandom. I think the community just adds so much more to make it more interesting. Adding more depth, even if not cannon, to the Equestrian universe. And keeps the excitement up between episodes/seasons.

      ReplyDelete
    47. DasBoShcitt used a couple of voice clips from FiM that /I/ didn't even notice (and I later only noticed one of) in Gmod idiot box and a few days later I see on his blog that he got slammed with the brony label.

He then drew the line and refused the label and said he also refused the gamer label.

When it comes right down to it most bronies do accept the label, but you really don't have to.

Whatever anyone else thinks YOU ARE NOT A LABEL.

      Now where's my label gun?

      Cave Johnson, we're done here

      ReplyDelete
    48. I can't see how anypony could complain about this, saying "OMG WTF HE COMPLAINED ABOUT PONIES"

I laughed a lot at this, just because of the references he made to other things and some of the good points. (Like all the bronies in TF2- It's true, I came from that game.)

    52. @Stuart K Reilly

      Bwahaha.

Stuart K. Reilly, you don't ever have to watch the show if you don't want to; it's not for everyone. But the simple act of taking the time to research it and going from an intense hatred to a neutral-maybe-just-crossing-into-positive standpoint and giving the community a little face time makes you an honorary brony.

If you ever do step over the line into this place, we do indeed have a chair for you with your name on it... and a matching jump suit with best pony on it. Welcome to the herd.

      ReplyDelete
    53. I mostly liked this, but when he said we'd all say the show is only ok and that the fandom itself is the main draw, it made me want to facepalm.

      ReplyDelete
    54. Well, that was certainly an interesting listen. I can say I agreed with him on some aspects and didn't quite agree with him on others. But really, much of it is a matter of opinion and I'm perfectly fine with that.

Though if someone came up to me on the street and asked me what I thought of the show, I'd say more than just "ok". :P I'd probably say something along the lines of it's an awesome show, well made as far as childrens shows go. It's pretty clever and has some great jokes thrown in. How it different from the past generations. All that good stuff.

      ReplyDelete
    55. When he called himself an observer, all I could think was "Bronies in the Mist."

    57. Not that anybody (anypony... ugh... still feels a little weird saying that :P) here particularly cares, but after reading the rest of the comments I feel like my earlier post needs an edit, so I'll do it here.

I liked that part where he said if you meet an average brony on the street they'll say the show is okay, but I assumed he just used some awkward wording and he meant to say something more along the lines of they enjoy it (perhaps a lot) but it doesn't necessarily encompass their lives.

I'm ALMOST willing to bet a small sum of money that most bronies would bring up the "not just for little girls" as well as the other standard positive aspects of the show.

My favourite thing was when he said that there are the creepy fans, but they're much less of them than the rest.

I used to think bronies were kinda serious with the whole "converting" thing, but the more I read about it the more tongue-in-cheek I realized it really was.

That said, I have met a few bronies who believe in all that and do fall in the "creepy" category of the fandom. But they're pretty much drowned out by the majority of the bronies I've met who act as I described above.

This is the most skilled and talented fan base I've ever seen, though!

    59. The show is not just "OK", the show is awesome. However, your appreciation for a show can be affected by your personnal taste etc.
When all's said and done,as long as you're able to see the inherent quality even if you don't like it, "OK" is the weakest rating you'll give it, and that's important.
A show with goddamn multicolored ponies blabbering about friendship and such starts off with several negative points, and yet, because of it's inherent quality, when all's said and done, you can't rate it under "OK", and THAT is an achievement.

    60. Conspiracy! The border of the desk, YTPN - Youtube Poop News or YTPNY (WHITE PONY) - Mr Reilly is no doubt a closet Rarity fan!

      ReplyDelete
    61. I have to say some people are very quick to label someone as a brony just because they made some reference to the show that isn't outright hating.
Hell, Obscurus Lupa on TGWTG reviewed a G3 movie and people spammed her to do something with FiM.
I absolutely understand people getting irritated by those obnoxious fanatics.

      ReplyDelete
    62. I have no idea how should respond to this.

      ReplyDelete
    63. This guy pretty much said my whole opinion on MLP:FiM and it's fandom. While I consider the cartoon to be really great, it's the fandom that blew me away.
While I have seen a lot of articles about MLP, some good and some bad, I've rarely seen someone going out and touching it in a middle stand-point.
The guy who made the article for ScrewAttacks Magazine, he was actually really good with his article. Yes, he was rude, but almost all of his points were valid.
While Stuart was more "refined" with his language, he did a lot of research on this and brought out both bad and good points about MLP and THAT deserves major respect.
Overall: Great! Major respects for him for even saying he was wrong in the beginning.

      ReplyDelete

    73. Hmm, on the subject of what the "average brony" would be, what would be the "qualifiers"? Just thought I'd ask.

      ReplyDelete
    74. I'm guessing when he says "most would say the show is only OK" he is taking from experience and not looking deeper. If someone who doesn't like the show asks someone who does like the show about it, the person is more likely to just say "it's OK" rather than expressing their true feelings to someone they already know doesn't like it. However people are much more open about their true feelings on an interest when talking to other people with the same interests.

      Just my $.02

    75. I'm pretty sure we're all here because the show was more than "OK". I didn't drop by EQD until i finished season 1. And look at how we all anticipate the next episodes. I'm pretty sure loving the show comes first. Enjoying the fandom adds to the experience and enjoyment.

Wow. First of all the fact that you are here on EqD chatting it up is awesome. I haven't seen many commenters or 'newspeople' of the internet lurk around here after doing a spot on the fandom. So that makes you ok in my book!

Just wait until you get to the 'better' episodes(term used loosely, based off of which ones I've seen people call their favorite), they all happen after you get about halfway through, which you are.

If you have reached episode 11, good luck getting that song out of your head for the next week or so...

    79. Props to him for making the vid and being the closest to indifference out of every single article and report out there. Also kudos for the through research.

Just want to add that Fallout: Equestria is a massive story, sitting at around half a million words. It's so damn big that it has spawned it's own sub-culture, WITHIN this sub-culture!

    80. speaking of government, if there was a brony presidential candidate in the up coming election, i would totally vote for him.

      ReplyDelete
    81. I don't usually reply to early comments, but I felt like pointing something out.

@Laurence Brown "Eh, the whole thing felt pretty half-assed, to be honest. Not even bothering to spend the ten seconds it would have taken to figure out how to pronounce Lauren Faust's name, for example."

A few months back, David Bailey (a self-declared "observer" of Youtube Poop) did one of several videos about the YTP community where he pronounced Stu's name wrong. Mr Rilley... er, Reilly, was probably making a joke at his expense again.

I've never seen Stu do anything "half-assed". Not in recent memory, at least.

      ReplyDelete
    82. At the risk of having the crowd turn on me, I love the show but still don't usually raise my praise of it above the "it's really well made" level when telling people about it. It's not the funniest cartoon I've seen, or the most audacious, or the best written or the one with the most engrossing stories.

But I do love it. I love it like my favorite greasy spoon. I may know for a fact that there are places to get finer dining, a more healthy meal or one at a better price, or what have you, but for whatever reason this one rests in the sweet spot where it offers me just enough to satisfy in every category, and I'll be among a crowd that is awesome. This show makes me happy. I can't point to anything more than "it's really well made" to promise that it would do the same for others, and so I don't tell them that it's great.

But if it just so happened to make them happy too? I guess that would be pretty great.

      ReplyDelete
