Dash as a Shadow Bolt is pretty much perfect. It also mirrors nicely with the second episode of Season 1, having Luna in it as well.

Pinkie Pie as a chicken...I've got nothing. It's Pinkie Pie. I literally got nothing but that.
And when I saw AJ as a Scarecrow I could only think about Cyllian Murphy. I think that says more about me than about the costume.

ReplyDeleteOh, man... I love Rainbow as a Shadowbolt! She managed to combine her obsession with the Wonderbolts and the Nightmare theme perfectly. Of course, it might be kind of awkward for Luna...
ReplyDeleteI lost it at Chicken Pinkie. I look forward to seeing Rarity's Elvira look and wonder if Fluttershy will even leave her house for that night. And you know the CMC's will have some good costume designs. I do hope somebody goes as a zombie pony.
If "Star Swirl" is indeed the name of Twilight's costume, then it's definitely referencing something out of a book of hers, or Equestrian history. If it's the latter, I expect it to spawn a fair number of fanfics.
I'm guessing that rainbow dash's costume started out as a wonderbolt, Theissen and Wootie were probably like "too predictable" and made the change to the obviously cooler shadowbolt costume.

ReplyDeleteRarity goes through multiple costumes. She wants hers to be so awesome and unique that she keeps undoing and redoing it whenever she sees one with the same costume and does this for most of the episode. In the end she just goes as herself.

ReplyDeleteI was THIS CLOSE when I called the costumes a couple weeks back. I had Twi as a sorceress, Dash as a Wonderbolt, AJ as a scarecrow (nailed it!) Rarity as Juliet or something, Flutters as a bunny, and honestly, I had no effing clue as to Pinkie. But the chicken getup doesn't surprise me.

ReplyDeleteIf the reason for the costumes for Nightmare Night is the same as it is for All Hall's Eve/Halloween than they are meant to scare the jerks that don't like leaving them alone rather than each other so a costume of a villain that is seen to be scary is perfectly valid during that time.

If Scootaloo dressed like a Wonderbolt, then that'd be harmless -it would be like a kid dressing up as a Blue Angel; if an adult did it, it would just seem kind of disrespectful, but for a little kid it would show admiration.

Hence Spike (afraid of huge dragon from Owl's Well), Rainbow (Shun all who defy the Wonderbolts!), Applejack, (scares the crows. See what she did there), and Pinkie (It's Pinkie). Sadly, this doesn't explain Twilight. Maybe she didn't get the memo, this being her first night.

@Sothalic I think Dash has ended up as a Shadowbolt, if not as their commander, in every single alternate universe fic of the 'Nightmare Moon conquers Equestria' type. Maybe the artists and writers are playing along?

OK, in all honesty...
ReplyDeleteI am LOVING Luna's look! I always figured she'd either grow into or power back up into a form that was more like her sister.
She should not have the same stature though... Luna IS, after all, Celestia's little sister. I think she is PERFECT!
Also, to everypony whining that they gotta change all their Luna art... Luna spent a year recovering. I'm sure her mane didn't pop back into it's celestial night form overnight. There is CERTAINLY room for both styles, the same way there is room for foal, filly, young mare, and adult mare Celestia art.

Lol, I wonder where Dashie got the idea to be a Shadowbolt... Trying to figure what Spike is trying to be..... can't put my finger on it. Why am I not surprised Twilight's a wizard? And Wtf is Pinkie Pie wearing a Scootaloo costume? And Applejack's fits her perfectly. Love these costumes.
