• DerpyMail USPS Stamps!

Purple Tinker over on Deviant Art got the OK to create actual USPS Stamps with Derpy Hooves on them.  Now all we need to do is convince the postal service to ditch that lame bald eagle and plaster our favorite wall eyed Pegasus on the side of their car..thingys.

You can find all of the information about it after the break, as well as an image of what they look like!

Hey everypony. My prototype order of DerpyMail USPS (US Postal Service) custom stamps has been APPROVED and is presently being printed! These stamps look like this:
Yes, these are going to be REAL USPS STAMPS that you could use for ACTUAL REAL LIFE MAIL! I am pondering replacing the design with one in which Derpy is wearing saddlebags and has a piece of mail in her mouth, though otherwise the basic design will remain the same.

These stamps cost a LOT less when ordered in bulk. (You never just pay the face value of the stamps for these custom jobs.) I am therefore coordinating a LARGE DerpyMail stamp order. Which stamps I order are up to the community:

Option ONE: Bulk order of 140 stamps total) of standard 6oz Large Envelope stamps ($1.73 each) at $2.11 per $1.73 stamp.
Option TWO: Bulk order of 240 stamps total) of standard 3oz Letter stamps ($0.78 each) at $1.19 per $0.78 stamp.

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN BUYING SOME DERPYMAIL STAMPS AT ACTUAL PRODUCTION COST, respond to this post with the following three pieces of info:

    1) Which ordering option you would prefer we ordered. (Option ONE or option TWO as listed above)
    2) Which COLOUR you would prefer the stamp be. (For instance, the prototype stamps are orange.)
    3) How many of these DerpyMail stamps would you want to buy?

Let's make Project DerpyMail a reality!

    4. And you can buy these suckers one at a time, Phoe. If you're broke, you can buy one or two stamps for a few bucks. That's the beauty of having a centralised DerpyMail stamp clearinghouse pony (i.e. moi). :)

    5. My mail never got delivered because it ended up in Tim-buck-two!

    6. DO WANT!!!

I definitely want some stamps but am a bit confused by Option 1 and Option 2. What are we choosing between, exactly?

    7. Words cannot describe the awesome..

    8. @Purple Tinker

I am going to require a couple of days to figure out what state my finances are actually in. If I even a couple of bucks into pony stamps only to turn around and realize I'm scraping it that tight on my heating bill I'm going to feel like a total foal. As soon as I get a clear picture of what's happening... I'm in.

For the record, I'm very fond of the way the orange looks on those stamps. It gives it a very post-y feel, probably because it's so reminiscent of FedEx. In a similar vein, purple is probably worth experimenting with, but if you went to print with orange I think it'd look stellar.

    11. The choice is: Do we want to order stamps that are worth $1.73 in postage (enough postage for a large 6-ounce envelope) but cost $2.11 each, or do we want to order stamps that are worth $0.78 in postage (enough postage for a standard-sized 3-ounce envelope) but cost $1.19 each?

You get more 'bang for the buck' for the larger stamps, but if you're going to use them to mail smaller letters, it may not be worth it. So it's a trade-off.

    12. FFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUU- I just spent my money on Pony shoes.

Why is my timing always bad!?

(fucking amazing, btw. I'd order a lot if I had monies left...)

Will they be availible at the local post office or will I have to give YOU money? (No offense, just wanna be sure)

      ReplyDelete
    15. Option two.
Some shade of light blue, perhaps something in her cutie mark color pallet.
I'd be in for 20 stamps.

      ReplyDelete
    16. If they were available at the local post office, I think the world would EXPLODE from awesomeness.

No, you can either go make your own and pay around $24 for around $10 of stamps, or we can do this in one big bulk order and all get a way better deal. :) (Not to mention have the ability to buy them one or two at a time; the minimum order from the site is 20 stamps, and at that price you end up paying over 50% of the cost in overhead, shipping and taxes.)

      ReplyDelete
    17. 1) Option TWO
      2) Color doesn't matter
      3) 24 stamps

      ReplyDelete
    18. More good news: I have found a quirk in the stamp printing service's pricing structure that I may be able to exploit to get us all these stamps even cheaper. Negotiating with the custom stamp printing firm via email.

      ReplyDelete
    19. (If I am successful, I MAY be able to get these stamps for just pennies over their face value. Wish me luck.)

      ReplyDelete
    20. Assuming the pricing that you originally proposed:
      Option two
I'm liking the orange so far
      15 stamps.

    24. 1) OPTION TWO (I'd probably also get OPTION 1 just for the hell of it)

      2) Prototype Orange/Whatever; I don't mind

      3) 24

For the record, I think this stamp requires a special Derpy envelope, too-- if it's even remotely possible.

      ReplyDelete
    25. @Purple Tinker

I have a feeling that you didn't expect Derpy stamps to be so popular. XD

      ReplyDelete
    26. 1) Option 2
      2) Yellow (like in Derpy's eyes) preferred, but I'm not picky
      3) 12 Stamps (if that's a possible amount)

(Please, if you want to contact me on my deviant art account: SpiritofthwWolf (spiritofthwwolf.deviantart.com) as I check that the most often)

    27. This is awesomely awesome but is this really okay? Are there licensing issues or something for using a copyrighted character?

      ReplyDelete
    28. I donno, but nobody's profiting off of it. Well, except maybe the stamp printing people. Us stamp USERS certainly aren't, as we have to pay for it.

    32. Okay, Blogger just hates my pony Gmail so I'm gonna try this again from my normal Gmail. If the spam filter or whatever pops out another post from Old Kentucky Shark later, ignore it.

      1) Option TWO

      2) Orange is good

      3) 24

Oh, and the Derpy pic with her saddle bags and the letter would be even more awesome.

      ReplyDelete
    33. Living in Europe can be a bitch sometimes.

I'm not even thinking about sending letters with these stamps, it's just probably to expensive to ship them over here... but I still have to tell you how awesome all of this is. This fandom is getting more and more awesome!

      ReplyDelete
    34. Alrighty. The first batch of orders is away. I ordered 120 stamps-- 100 78-cent (3oz standard letter first-class postage) and 20 44-cent (1oz standard letter first-class postage). I got these super-insano-cheap. Here's hoping that they all get approved, cuz-- guess what, guys-- I ORDERED MULTIPLE COLOURS. :D See http://purpletinker.deviantart.com/art/DerpyMail-Stamp-Colors-Preview-201890753 for what got ordered!

There's 40 78-cent stamps and 20 44-cent stamps in "Prototype Orange", 20 78-cent stamps in "Derpy yellow", 20 78-cent stamps in "bubble blue", and 20 78-cent stamps in "Twilight purple".

      And... now I sleep.

      ReplyDelete
    35. /r/ that all future snail-mail letters sent to the MLP crew be sent with these stamps

      ReplyDelete
    36. @Parallel Logic

      Yes, this!

Although, I'm sure this would beg the question on the whole legality thing.

      ReplyDelete
    37. I wish i could get in on this, but i don't actually mail anything. Ever. so it would be a waste for me to get them

    39. good lord, first lauren faust draws derpy, now we have stamps?! DO WANT

1)some of each maybe? or if not possible, option 2.

2)if possible, a few of each color? maybe 5 each.

      3)~20

      ReplyDelete
    40. 1)Option 2 for sure.

      2)I'm down with the orange.

      3)24 stamps would be awesome.

      ReplyDelete
    41. But how do I get my set of 40 prototype-orange 44-cent stamps!? I need addresses! Instructions! Someplace to send my money!

      ReplyDelete
    42. I live in the UK so I wouldn't be able to use them to mail them anyway, but I'd like some just to have XD
Could I possibly buy a couple? I like the orange ones but any colour is fine ^^
Hopefully I'm not too late, I was asleep when this was posted X_X

      ReplyDelete
    43. I must do this with Canada Post's custom stamp ordering and get myself some Derpy stamps.

I really would recommend switching to the Derpy with her mailbag and letter in her mouth, though. I've already started up a template to use for Canada Post.

      ReplyDelete
    44. Anon, you are going to do a Canada Post version?? I am so watching this as it unfolds. Awesomesauce potential rising.

      ReplyDelete
    45. I would probably only send a few letters. I don't care what color as long as it looks ok. I will probably buy enough to send a few and save some. Probably about $20 worth. How does I give monies to receive loot?

      ReplyDelete
    46. @frith

I'm really wanting to, although Canada Post's custom stamps dont' come in as large a size as USPS apparently offers, and we don't have as many options.

I made up a design based on the one in the original post, though, and here it is in the two styles offered by Canada Post. All their custom stamps are 40x32mm.

      img576.imageshack.us/img576/6254/derpycanadapost.png

      ReplyDelete
    47. 1)Option 2.

2)I don't really matter orange is quite good.

      3)4 stamps.

One thing, could I have them if i'm form spain? (even i can't use them there)i would really like to have those stamps, they are really nice.

      ReplyDelete
    48. This is the greatest thing to come out of the postal service.

Unfortunately I don't use normal mail all that much, but I'm really inclined to get some just to have them.

      ReplyDelete
    49. Are these "forever" stamps. I'm only willing to buy that many stamps if I can still use them a long time from now.

      ReplyDelete
    50. @Anonymous: The first round of 120 stamps does indeed include the mailbags and the letter in her mouth. :)

For everypony who wants some: I will post pricing (you pay what I paid, plus 44c for a regular non-Derpy stamp for me to mail them to YOU!) and payment instructions once they arrive.

I will also post PHOTOS! Gorgeous photos of Derpy stamps. :D

      ReplyDelete
    51. Sadly, Apreche, they are not "forever" stamps. However, although 78 cents will not be enough for a 3oz mailing forever, it WILL be enough for a 1oz mailing for a long, long, long time.

I would have bought "forever" stamps, but strangely they are not available through the stamp customisers. :(

      ReplyDelete
    52. @Anonymous from Canada

Oh my, those are nice, especially option 2, the one framed in a perforated ribbon image. Would these be the perma-stamps or the 59 cent values?

      ReplyDelete
    53. @frith

All they seem to say is "postage paid", so I take it they're permanent.

      ReplyDelete
    54. They are NOT 'forever stamps'. They will always be worth the postage value printed on them. For some weird reason, the custom postage service doesn't offer 'forever stamps'.

So, though they're enough for a 3oz letter now, eventually they will only be enough for a 2oz letter, then a 1oz. But they should be enough for at least a 1oz letter for a long long time (as long as it takes the price of a 1oz letter to go up from 44 cents to 78 cents).

      ReplyDelete
    55. Do want!!! :D

      1) Which ordering option you would prefer we ordered. Option Two (Bulk order of 240 stamps total) of standard 3oz Letter stamps ($0.78 each) at $1.19 per $0.78 stamp.)

      2) Which COLOUR you would prefer the stamp be. "Bubble Blue" and "Derpy Yellow"

      3) How many of these DerpyMail stamps would you want to buy? 10 (5 in "Bubble Blue" and 5 in "Derpy Yellow")

      ReplyDelete
    56. @Purple Tinker

I was referring to the custom Canada Post stamps I posted the samples of a few post up.

Those ones are permanent, I believe. For Canada, obviously, lol.

      ReplyDelete
    57. I want a couple for keepsake!

      1) Large Stamp of Derpy in Saddlebags and mail in her mouth.

      2) Bubble Blue & Twilight Purple

      3) 2 Total = 1 Bubble Blue + 1 Twilight Purple

I guess I'll await for your instructions.

      ReplyDelete
    58. Oh crap, the order status is "Hold for Review". EVERYPONY PANIC!

(Good news: If I can't get them printed through this USPS licencee, I will try with another. More good news: The first prototype batch of 20 has shipped... so at least there will be 20 DerpyMail stamps floating around the fandom.)

      ReplyDelete
    59. I vote option 2, I think orange looks the best, and as many as $51.00 can buy.

      ReplyDelete
    60. So, 18 of the 20 initial DerpyMail stamps are going to be distributed to 18 lucky Derpy fans, along with a few Derpalicious goodies which will include:

      * A coupon good for one free muffin from Derpy! (Your challenge is to find Derpy, of course. I think she lives in Cloudsdale.)
      * Muffin recipes!
      and, possibly:
      * A muffin fact sheet.

I am hereby requesting that everypony mail me (prpltnkr @ gmail.com) your best muffins recipes. These should be REAL recipes, not 'baked bads' typed jokes. Everypony will be credited with their pony name in the mailout. (e.g.: "Submitted by Purple Tinker").

Ideally, also submit PHOTOS of completed muffins made using these recipes.

This is going to be SO...AWESOME!

      ReplyDelete
    61. Im not going to buy these simply because there are many other thing out there I would like to spend what money I have on... Like food and elecricity.

      ReplyDelete
    63. defiantly interested in buying a few
(option 2, any color, about 25)
But I'm a bit confused about how we would pay for them...

      ReplyDelete
    64. I should probably read the comments but holy poo tl:dr.

I never mail anything (ever) but I'd love to have one or some of these just to have =D

What am I getting, and how am I ordering it? I know I want the orange ones but I don't know how many.

      ReplyDelete
    65. Hi Kujiiro! I'll be selling the stamps at actual cost (that is, the actual cost I paid, not the face value, which is somewhat lesser.) You'll pay via Paypal. It'll be very simple; I'll post instructions here on EquestriaDaily when they're ready.

Hopefully, this order will get approved. If not, I have just put in a massive order of 200 orange stamps from another provider.

      ReplyDelete
    66. @Purple Tinker

Awesome! Hope it gets approved! *crosses fingers* >.<

      ReplyDelete
    67. 1) Option TWO

      3) 24 stamps

      ReplyDelete
    68. Ahaha, that pic at the top is one I made. :P

      ReplyDelete
    69. THANK YOU RageTreb! :) Without that pic, I wouldn't have been inspired to make DerpyMail real! Also, the Derpy drawing on the stamps was cropped out from that pic :) (The prototype stamps used a different Derpy pic, though.)

    70. 1) Option 2, just to have more stamps.
